ROGER L. NADEAU
EXETER - Roger Nadeau, 51, passed away at the Brewer Rehab and Living Center after a long illness. He was born Feb. 9, 1947 at Lewiston the son of Ralph and Juliette (Plourde) Nadeau. He graduated from Catholic schools in Lewiston. He had been employed by the Portland Police Department as Secretary to the Blind, and had most recently been an administrative assistant at the Maine Center for the Blind in Portland. He was recently named Blind Worker of The Year and later retired due to failing health.

He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Lola (Hanscom) Nadeau, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law with whom he resided, Margaret and Ernest "Buzzy" Soucie, all of Exeter.

Friends may call 2-4 P.M. Wednesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Exeter Road, Corinna. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations to assist the family may be made to Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport 04953.

CHARLES E. GILES JR.
CORINNA AND GUILFORD, Charles E. Giles Jr., 61, died 01-14-1999 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born 09-15-1937 in Burnham, son of Charles and Charlotte (Reed) Giles Sr. He lived in Guilford for much of his life and worked as a woodsman in the local area.

He is survived by his wife Florence (Philbrick) Giles of Corinna;4 sons Charles Giles II of Sangerville, Harlan Akerson of Dexter, Steven Giles of Corinna and Harold Giles of Farmington; 2 daughters Helen Lawler of Kansas and Julie Cousins of Bangor; a sister Ruth Fuller of Albion; 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held 5-6 PM Monday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Oak St., Guilford. Graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove cemetery in Albion in the Spring.

MEDORA M. MAILLET
MADISON-Medora M. Maillet, 75, a resident of Summer St. Madison, died after a long illness Saturday, January 9, 1999, at her residence with her family by her side. The Daughter of Laurent and Appoline (Richard) Maillet she was born in Madison, April 18, 1923 and was educated in the Madison School System, class of 1942. After School she attended Central Beauty School in Augusta and was employed for a number of years as a beautician in Skowhegan and Old Town and later in various local mills. Medora enjoyed writing letters and sending greeting cards to friends and family.

She was predeceased by her brothers Alphonse J. Edouard Maillet, and Sylvan Maillet both died in 1920 from St. Charles, N.B. Canada and sisters Alma Vigneault in 1996 and Theresa Maillet in 1932. Medora is survived by her Brother Lawrence and Constance Maillet of Randolph and North Port, Florida Sisters Evelyn Butler, Lauria LeBlanc, Flavia Laslow, Della Maillet, Josephine DeRoche, Phyllis Bragg, all of Madison, Several Neices and Nephews.

A Memorial Service Will Be Held Saturday, January 16, at 10:00am at St. Sebastian Catholic Church With the Father Georges Plante Officiating. Committal will be in the spring at St. Sebastian Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Pine State Cremation Service.

DOROTHY (POWERS) HANSEN
NEWPORT & DOVER-FOXCROFT--Dorothy (Powers) Hansen, 86, died April 21, 1999 at the Charleston residence of her granddaughter, Cynthia Michaud. She was born December 25, 1912 at Webster (now in the township of Sabattus) the daughter of Berton and Elestie (Thompson) Powers. She graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1932, and was employed for a time at H.P. Hood Company in Auburn. In 1937, she married Jack M. Hansen, the son of Oscar and Sena Hansen of Michigan. Jack passed away in 1955. Dorothy was later employed as a bookkeeper at Staples Oil Company in Pittsfield, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the High Street Congregational Church of Newport and the Nokomis Chapter #42, O.E.S. of Newport.

She is survived by one son, John and his wife, Alfreda Hansen of Newport; one daughter, Christy Lorom of Calais; 5 grandchildren, Cynthia Michaud, Lori Lawler, Phillip Hansen, Patricia Hansen and Deanna Morse; 6 great grandchildren, Ashley, Chucky and James Lawler, Candace and Christopher Michaud and Jade Morse.

Friends may call 7-9 P.M. Saturday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport where funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Sunday, April 25th, with Rev. Dennis Michaud officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newport.

MARTIN W. GERALD
CAMBRIDGE—Martin W. Gerald, 74, went home to be with the Lord on April 19, 1999. He was born October 27, 1924 at Newport the son of Raymond and Bertha (Nickerson) Gerald. He served in the US Marines during World War II and owned and operated L-Hill Body Shop in Palmyra until his retirement.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Nancy of Cambridge; 3 daughters and their husbands, Linda and Allan Gould of Franklin, Sonja and Mike Cummings of Pittsfield and Rita and John Graf of Canaan; 3 step-children and their spouses, Deborah and Fred Bushey of Hartland, Vicki and Ricky Morse of St. Albans and David and Phyllis Marson of Cambridge; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Gerald.

At his request, funeral services will be private. However, a public graveside committal service will be held 2 p.m. May 8 at the Riverside Cemetery, Newport with the Rev. Ronald Parker officiating.

Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport.

EUNICE M. CREAMER
PLYMOUTH - Eunice M. Creamer, 70, died unexpectedly April 18, 1999 at her Route 69 residence. She was born January 26, 1929 at Palmyra the daughter of Albert and Idella (Lessor) Luce. She was employed by the Edwards Company in Pittsfield for 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Creamer of Plymouth; her step-mother, Emma Luce of Oakland; a son Ronald Creamer of Burnham; a brother, Peter Lessor of Newport; 4 sisters, Ruby Pauline Pooler of Canaan, Dot Stevens of Oakland, Florence Rowe of Newport, and Ellen James of Pittsfield; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two children, Edward Creamer, Jr. and Tammy Bodwell.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside funeral service will be held 1 P.M. Wednesday, April 21st, at Pittsfield Village cemetery with Rev. Stephen Hanson officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport.

ROBERT L. ROSS, SR.
STETSON - Robert L. Ross, Sr., 70, died April 16, 1999 at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 29, 1928 at Bangor the son of William and Annie (Ryder) Ross. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed for many years at Dolan & Sons Furniture Store in Bangor. He attended Stetson Union Church.

He is survived by his wife, Harriett (Fogg) Ross of Stetson, 2 sons, William Ross of Levant, and Earl Ross of Old Town; 7 daughters, Cheryl A. Ross of Glenburn, Cheryl D. Harvey of Pittsfield, Roseann Burke and Georgia Smith, both of Bangor, Dawn Harvey of Stetson, Christine Simonin of CT, and Sue Ann Cross of Detroit; 3 brothers, Lee "Sonny" Ross of Bangor, Earl Ross of New York, and Donald Ross of Florida; 3 sisters, Katherine Deluck of Bangor, Theresa Henniker of Pennsylvania, and Audrey Bamber of California; 19 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Robert L. Ross, Jr.

There will be no public visitation. A graveside funeral service will be held 2 P.M. Monday, April 19th, at Clark's Hill Cemetery, Stetson, with Rev. David Ray of the Stetson Union Church officiating.

Floral arrangements may be sent to Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport.

PHILIP R. MEALEY
DEXTER, Philip R. Mealey, Sr., 86, died 04-14-1999 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born 02-21-1913 in S. Gardiner son of James and Lena (Hall) Mealey. He graduated from Machias High School class of 1930. He then attended Washington State Normal School in 1930. He received his bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Maine in 1937 and a Masters degree in Education from UMO in 1951. While in High School and college Phil participated in many athletic and dramatic activities. Baseball was his outstanding competitive sport, being a catcher on the UMO 1937 championship team. He taught math in Danforth Jr. High School for 2 years and then for 11 years at Caribou High School where he served as Assistant Principal and basketball and baseball coach. He was the principal of the Dexter High School for 13 years and of the Brewer High School for 13 years. Phil was well known for his interest in high school sports. He served as a football and basketball official in northern and eastern Maine for 25 years and was active on several Maine State Principal’s Association committees, including basketball, football, baseball, winter sports and the Executive Committee. He was President of the New England Council of Secondary School Principals, former President of the Aroostook County Schools Men’s Club, Dexter and Brewer Teacher’s Clubs. For 15 years he was a member of the National Foundation of High School Football Rules Committee and served as Vice Chairman of the Game Administration Committee in 1973. He was also a member of the Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis. Phil was known as the originator of the “Little Ten” football conference and was known for the “Mealey-Point” system for rating high school teams. In 1992 he was elected to the Maine Coach’s Roll of Honor.

He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Malvina (Levasseur) Mealey. He is survived by 3 sons, Philip Mealey Jr. Newark, NJ, Peter and his wife Barbara Mealey of Dexter and Mel Mealey of Lady Lake, Florida; a sister Eleanor Black of Machias; a sister-in-law Frances Mealey of Fairfield; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a special friend Anna Hutchinson of Winslow.

Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Saturday at the St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter with Rev. Antonio Amato officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter.

Those who wish may make donations to the Dexter Regional High School Scholarship Fund in memory of Philip R. Mealey Sr. c/o Dexter Regional High School, 12 Abbott Hill road, Dexter, ME 04930.

MURRAY F. "BILL" NYE
Shirley - Murray F. “Bill” Nye, 76, Husband of Mary (Morey) Nye, died April 7, 1999 at C.A. Dean Hospital in Greenville. He was born Nov. 16, 1922 in Staceyville Plantation ME the son of Angus and Lucille (Grout) Nye. He was a long time resident of Shirley, having attended local schools there and in Greenville. He was employed by Great Northern Paper Co. Retiring in in 1984 after 33 years. He was a veteran of WW II Serving in ETO for 3 1/2 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, His sister, Lolita Nye Smith of Port Richey FL, Two sons, Ben A. Nye of Greenville, and Bill A. Nye of Trona CA, Two daughters, Loretta Nye Grinnell of Derby and Mary Nye Dorsey of Manchester NH , Nine grandchildren, Peter, Marie, Richard, Christie, Nikki, Kerrie, Brie, Kindyll and William, One great grandson, Justin, Many Nieces Nephews and Cousins. He was pre-Deceased by his parents, a sister Faye McAfee, a brother, Alan Nye and a Grandson, Charles Grinnell.

Time of visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9PM Saturday April 10, 1999 at the McCrory Funeral Home in Greenville. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the C.A. Dean Nursing Home P.O. Box 1129 Greenville ME 04441 or The Shirley United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 91 Greenville Jct. ME 04442.

DONALD E. RICE
STETSON - Donald E. Rice, 96, husband of Dorothy Conant Rice, died April 6, 1999 at his residence. He was born September 14, 1902 at Fitchburg, Mass. the son of William and Ida (Green) Rice. Donald was a paper machine operator at the East Pepperell Paper Mill in Mass. for 47 years. In 1967 he moved to Maine and with his wife Dorothy, owned and operated Sweeney's Restaurant in Veazie. They retired to Stetson in 1977.

In addition to his wife of Stetson, he is survived by 2 sons, Edward of Townsend, MA, and Carlton of Hudson, NH; 3 daughters, Byrl Hunter of Tyngsboro, MA, Thurlo Dow of Pepperell, MA, and Edith Tarr of Lakeland, FL; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by his first wife, Erma, a son Roger Rice, and a daughter Anita Buckingham.

Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 10th, at Hamilton Funeral Home, 37 Main Street, Pepperell, Mass. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 A.M. until the time of services. Burial will be in the family lot, Woodlawn Cemetery, Pepperell, MA.

MARY H. RAYMOND
Greenville - Mary H. Raymond, 103, wife of the late Fred Raymond, died March 31, 1999 at C.A. Dean Nursing Home. She was born in Blue Hill on Nov. 1, 1895 the daughter of Edwin and Carrie (Long) Conary. She was one of the first Registered Nurses to come to Greenville to work when the Charles Dean Memorial Hospital was opened. She was an active member of the Laura T. Davidson Missionary Society and donated faithfully each year.

She is survived by one brother, Albert Long Conary of Graham NC, one sister, Isabelle Candage of E. Blue Hill, Several Nieces Nephews, Great Nieces and Great Nephews.

A time of visitation will be held from 9AM to 11 AM Saturday , A funeral service will be following at 11 AM Saturday April 3, 1999 at the McCrory Funeral Home in Greenville. Donations in Her memory may be made to the First Pentecostal Church, P.O. Box 13 Greenville ME 04441.

JOHN C. M. LAWSON
Dover - Foxcroft & Wellesley MA - John C. M. Lawson, 90, Loving husband of Alice E. (Howe) Lawson, died March 30, 1999 at a Dover - Foxcroft Health care facility. He was born on Feb. 19, 1909 in Wellesley MA the son of John A. and Janet (Currie) Lawson.

He is survived by his wife, one son John C. M. Lawson Jr. and his wife Sally Lawson of Dexter, one daughter, Alice Joan Janse and her husband Ted Janse of Natick MA, two sisters, Anna Baker of Needham MA and Jessie Durgan of Austin TX, six Grand Children and their families, Stephen, His wife Hiedi, and their children Wendy and Kara of Dexter, Cynthia Lawson of Dexter, Lorraine, Her husband William Inserra and their son Billy of Saratoga CA, Cheryl Janse of Portland, Linda Janse of Cambridge MA, Allison and her husband Rob Collins of Pompano Beach FL.

A memorial Service will be held 2 PM Friday April 2, 1999 at The Dover - Foxcroft Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Dover - Foxcroft.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to Childrens Hospital, Mail box 431, 300 Longwood Ave. Boston, MA 02115.

JOSEPHINE E. HEWES
CORINNA - Josephine E. Hewes, 96, died March 30, 1999 in Aurora, Colorado. She was born February 9, 1903 at Steuben the daughter of James and Mammie (Norton) West. She was employed at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna for 44 years. She was predeceased by her first husband, Byron Henderson, Sr., and by her second husband, Leon Hewes; a daughter, Lela Johnston; sisters Arlene McNeil and Doris Griffin; and brothers, George Griffin and Bartlett West.

She is survived by 2 sons, Byron Henderson of Corinna, and Daniel Henderson of St. Albans; 2 daughters, Marie McWilliams of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, and Anna Collins of Aurora, Colorado; 2 brothers, Leland Griffin of North Sullivan, and Morris Griffin of Michigan; 1 sister Helen Stenes of Sullivan; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, April 3rd, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Exeter Road, Corinna, with Rev. Ronald Parker officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until the time of services. Burial will be in Morses Corner Cemetery, Corinna, later in the spring.
