ARLENE ARDITH POMROY
DEXTER – Arlene Pomroy, 84, died November 1, 1999 at a Bangor hospital. She was born March 16, 1915 at Mount Vernon, Washington the daughter of Eugene and Wahneta (Fader) Hatch. She attended school in Newport.

In 1961, she was predeceased By her husband, Jerome "Jerry" Pomroy. She was also predeceased by 2 sons, Ronald and Harlan. She is survived by 3 daughters, Ardith Childs of Brunswick, Nancy Hight of Corinna, and Davena Reed of Dexter; 1 son, Milton Pomroy of Dexter;12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Ethel Pelkey of Newburgh, Marion Wharff of Guilford, and Mildred Goffe of CT; 3 brothers, Verne Hatch of Bay City, Michigan, Glen Hatch of Kenduskeag, and Kenneth Bartman of Washington state; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Friday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter, where friends may call from noon until time of services. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.

MARTIN G. LEIGHTON
WILLIMANTIC - Martin G. Leighton, 73, died October 30, 1999 in Willimantic. He was born on April 09, 1926 in Willimantic, son of Guy and Greathel (Green) Leighton. He served in the US Navy during WWII and later worked as a woodsman for much of his life. He enjoyed living off the land and was very actively involved in environmental issues.

He is survived by three daughters, Glenna Garcia of California, Mary Francis Gardiner of Florida and Shannon Leighton of Milo; a sister, Eleanor Gordon of Willimantic; two brothers, Donald Leighton of California and Gary Dearborn of Brewer.

Friends may call Wednesday at 7 –9 PM, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Oak St., Guilford. Burial will be 11 AM Thursday at the Riverside cemetery in Willimantic.

MILTON SCOTT BUBAR
PALMYRA, Milton Scott Bubar, 93, died Oct. 29, 1999 at his home in Palmyra. He was born October 10, 1906 in Linneus the son of Merrill and Etta (Dickinson) Bubar. Milton owned and operated a cattle farm in St. Albans for 17 years and was a pulpwood contractor for Great Northern Papera member and past trustee of the Calvary Baptist Church of Newport. He was a 50-year member of Parian Lodge Masons, and a 70-year member of St. Albans Grange. He was also a member of the Hartland-St. Albans Lions Club and had served as a 4-H leader in St. Albans.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Madeline (Dickinson) Bubar of Palmyra; 3 sons, Richard Bubar of Newport, Clifford Bubar of Oldsmar, FL., and Weston Bubar of North Reading, Mass.; 2 daughters, Virginia Hopkins of Etna, and Kathryn Marsh of Camden; 2 sisters, Bessie Hamm of Newport, and Mary Wilson of Houlton; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Sheldon Bubar, and George Bubar and 2 sisters, Kathleen Griffith and Helen Clark.

Friends may call Saturday 3-4 and 6-8 PM at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Sunday with Rev. William Stone and Pastor Michael Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in the Corinna Village Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Calvary Baptist Church, 29 Grove St., Newport, ME 04953.

Janet Viola Small
NEWPORT I Janet Viola Small, 97, died October 21, 1999 at Mt. St. Joseph in Waterville. She was born July 5, 1902 at Loggieville, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of James and Roberta (MacKnight) MacDonald. She graduated from New Brunswick School of Nursing in 1925, and received her PhD. at St. John (New Brunswick) General Hospital. She became a naturalized U. S. citizen in 1955, and was a Registered Nurse in New York City and Bangor. She later owned and operated Small's Boarding Home in Dover-Foxcroft for 20 years. In 1966, she retired to Newport. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Newport, and a former member of the Wednesday Morning Prayer Group and the East Dover Grange. She was predeceased by her husband, C. Maurice Small, and her sister, Mina. She is survived by several nieces and nephews in New Brunswick. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M Saturday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Guilford.

Elizabeth L. Call
DEXTER – Elizabeth L. Call, 94, died October 21, 1999 at a Dexter nursing home following a long illness. She was born June 26, 1905 in Dexter the daughter of Edwin and Erma (Flanders) Call. She graduated from N. H. Fay High School, Class of 1923, and Farmington Normal School, Class of 1925. A beloved teacher for thirty-seven years, she taught at the Good Will School in Hinckley, the Lexington, Mass. Elementary School and then returned to teach in the elementary schools of her hometown, Dexter. She was a member of the First Universalist (Unitarian Universalist) Church of Dexter, And was a devoted member of the Dexter Sunshine Club, where she served as clerk for many years. She is survived by 2 sisters, Isabelle Hopkins of Dexter, and Alberta Flanders of Sudsbury, Mass; as well as several nieces and nephews. She will also be Remembered by a dear friend, Mildred McNaughton of Newport. There will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Monday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Memorial donations may be made to the Sunshine Club, c/o Mrs. Nancy Baldwin, 59 Acadia Street; Dexter 04930.

KENNETH R. SIMPSON
ABBOT – Kenneth Ray Simpson, 52, died peacefully October 16, 1999 at his residence after a battle with cancer. He was born October 15, 1947 at Pawtucket, RI, the son of Lester and Clarice (Bowness) Simpson. He graduated from Tolman High School, Class Of 1966, and attended Johnson & Wales College, both in Rhode Island. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Ken was a long haul truck driver, employed by Parallel Transportation. He was an avid hunter and member of the NRA.

Survivors include his father of New Port Richey, Florida, his wife, Sherill (Keyworth) Simpson and 2 sons, Shane and Keith, all of Abbot; 4 brothers, Lester of Attleboro, MA, Donald of Ripley, David of Seekonk, MA, and Richard of Sangerville; 2 sisters, Kathy Marchand of Jupiter, FL, Lois Simpson of Guilford. He was predeceased by his mother. At his request there will be no public services.

Private arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Community Health and Counseling Service, 1093 West Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft 04426.

GENE A. GOGAN
HARTLAND - Gene A. Gogan, 62, died unexpectedly Oct. 1, 1999. He was born in Benton, March 24, 1937, the son of Harry A. and Oriole H. (Stanhope) Gogan. He was educated in Benton and Fairfield schools, and was a veteran. Gene worked for Keyes Fibre in Shawmut, Harris Baking Co. in Waterville, Ski-Land Woolen Mill in Clinton, Charles O. Brown in Benton; as well as several carpentry contractors. Gene was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, wildlife and all forms of nature. He was a master craftsman and builder in the woodworking and carpentry field. He was a people-orientated man who loved family and friends and the great outdoors. Gene was well-loved and respected by everyone whose life he graced. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all.

Survivors include his wife; children are one son, Steven Gogan and his wife, Terri of Shawmut; daughter, Victoria Lee and husband, Larry of Winslow, and daughter, Selina Arsenault and husband, Rick of Norridgewock. Gene is also survived by his grandchildren, Sonya Wiers and fianc‚, Mark Prentiss, Nichole Wiers, Erika Arsenault, Jason Gogan, Jessica Gogan and Stephanie Amboy. Gene is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Surviving sisters and brothers are Katherine M. Lewis of Winslow, Frances G. Reath and significant other, Randolph M. Getchell Sr. of Shawmut, Loring W. Gogan and his wife, Alice of Benton, Eva M. Smith and her husband, Ronald of Greenville, H. Marie Powers of Hagerstown, Md., Donald H. Gogan and his wife, Diane of Norridgewock, John B. Gogan of Unity, Walter C. Gogan and his wife, Reona of Winslow. Gene was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy M. Spencer and Barbara L. Getchell. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family, including many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends as well. He will also be greatly missed by his special companion, Digger Dog.

At the request of Gene, there will be no funeral. For those who wish and in his memory (being the naturalist he was), his family asks that donations be sent to the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, Attn: Matt Washuk, 284 State St., Augusta, Me. 04333. God, comfort be with everyone he leaves behind. Private arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

VERA M. BURTON
MILO - Vera M. Burton, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Oct. 14, 1999, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born June 19, 1906, in Upper Waterville, N.B., Canada, the eldest daughter of Woodford and Frances (Tompkins) Rockwell. After becoming a U.S. citizen, she married Harold H. Burton. They lived in Oakfield and then in Derby, raising eight children and their beloved eldest granddaughter, Bonita Marie Pelkey Cormier. She was a member of the United Baptist Church of Milo. Vera was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved her plants and crafts.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Irene Livingstone of Waterville, Madeline London of Milo, Eleanor Perry of Lenox, Mass., Eloise Hathorn of Milo, Jeanette Towne of Bangor, Harold "Spike" Burton Jr. of Milo, Raymond Burton of Medford and their spouses. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a twin daughter, Maxine Towne; three sisters, Erma Hillman, Ada Canning and Ida Crouse; a great-grandchild, Adam Bell; a great-great-grandchild, Samantha Cox.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the United Baptist Church in Milo with Rev. Ernest Madden and the Rev. Robert Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery.

ROBERT H. APPLEBEE
GUILFORD, Robert H. Applebee, 76, died 10-10-1999 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born 09-01-1923 in Guilford, son of Hugh and Beatrice (Blake) Applebee. He graduated form Guilford High School class of 1941. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a prisoner of war in Germany for almost a year. He worked as a machinist for Hardwood Products Co. in Guilford for 50 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved his garden, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by two sons, Darold and his wife Joyce Applebee of Guilford and Peter Applebee of Abbot, two daughters and their husbands, Roberta and Richard Thomas and April and Timothy Dauphinee all of Guilford; a sister and her husband, Felicia and William Weymouth of Searsport; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Lawn cemetery in Guilford. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Tumor Clinic c/o Mayo Regional Hospital, W. Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral, Guilford.

HAROLD S. PARSONS
GARLAND, Harold S. Parsons, 34, went to be with the Lord, Oct. 9, 1999 at a Bangor Hospital. He was born Jan. 29, 1965 in Bangor, son of Harold C. and Katherine (Shorey) Parsons. He worked as a self-employed woodsman for most of his life. He loved the outdoors and volunteered as a Little League coach.

He is survived by his mother Katherine Turner of Newport; his wife Jackie (Leavitt) Parsons and son Harold S. Parsons II of Garland; three brothers and their wives, Terry and Jane Parsons of Sidney, Kirt and Laurie Parsons currently stationed in Germany and Todd and Sherry Parsons of Jackman; a sister Star Busque of Florida.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main St., Newport. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, at the funeral home with Rev. Matt Ward officiating. Burial will be in the Dixmont Corner Cemetery.

Minnie S. Niles
ETNA & CARMEL – Minnie S Niles, 89, died October 10, 1999 at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. She was born August 6, 1910 at Carmel the daughter of Charles and Lizzie (Sylvester) Small. She graduated from Carmel High School, Class of 1928, and attended Farmington Normal School. Until recently, she faithfully attended the Carmel Union Congregational Church. She was a member of the Carmel Extension, Carmel Historical Society, the Carmel Alumni Association, the Etna and State Granges. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Leland Niles, who died in 1982, as well as 2 Brothers, Leonard and Raymond Small.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Louis and wife May-Dawn Small, Mary Grant, Linda and husband John Hall, all of Etna, Ruth and husband Robert Guerette of Carmel, Karen and husband Lenard Gowen of Bangor; a special sister-in-law, Thelma Butler of Etna; 2 step-children, Eleanor Varney of New Hampshire, Connie and husband Robert Boggs of Augusta; several grandnieces, Grandnephews, and step-grandchildren.

Friends may call 2-4 & 7-8 P.M. Wednesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport. Funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Thursday at The Carmel Union Congregational Church with Rev. Mark Bruce officiating. Burial will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery in Augusta. Memorial donations May be made to the Carmel Union Congregational Church Pew Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 111, Carmel 04419. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

WAYNE JOSEPH CHEVERY, SR.
DEXTER – Wayne Joseph Chevery, Sr., 50, died February 28, 2000 at a Dexter healthcare facility. He was born October 22, 1951 at Dexter the son of Neilan and Joyce (Pullyard) Chevery. He attended N. H. Fay High School in Dexter and served 3 years in the U. S. Army in Germany. Wayne retired as a Millwright from Cianbro Corporation in 1999 due to failing health. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, and will be remembered by his co-workers as an honest, hard worker.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Deanna (Arno) Chevery of Dexter; his mother, Joyce Larrabee of Dexter; his mother-in-law Phoebe DiSanto of Dexter; 2 sons, Jason and Wayne, Jr., both of Dexter; 2 daughters, Ashley of Dexter and Tara of North Port, Florida; one brother, Joseph Edward Chevery, and wife Gladys of Canaan; one sister, Diana M. Tash and husband Payson of Gardiner. He will also be sadly missed by special friends, Geneva Ballard and Teresa Gillespie. He was predeceased by his father and a daughter, Holly. He was a devoted father and husband, and enjoyed doing things with his family.

Friends may call 6-8 P.M. Thursday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter, where funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Friday. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, in the spring. Donations in his memory May be made to the American Cancer Society, 52 Federal Street, Brunswick 04011.

DORIS M. ROBINSON
GUILFORD, Doris M Robinson, 89, died Feb. 25, 2000 at Dover-Foxcroft nursing home.She was born Aug. 2, 1910 in Parkman, daughter of George and Bertha (Trafton) Welts.In her younger years she and her husband owned and operated a bakery in New Hampshire, moving back to this area in the late 1940s.She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, braiding rugs and loved to read.She was predeceased by her husband, Guy L. Robinson in 1981 and a son David Robinson in 1992.She is survived by several nieces and nephews. At her request there will be no public services at this time.

A Graveside service will be held in the spring at the Elmwood cemetery in Guilford at a time to be announced by the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

WILLIAM M. BJORK
MONSON, William M. Bjork, 68, died 02-27-2000 at his home in Monson. He was born 12-11-1931 in Monson, son of Martin and Norma (Kirk) Bjork.He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Jewel (Stanchfield) Bjork on June 8, 1957 and they have four surviving children; Rodrick Bjork of Greenville, Jayson Bjork of Colorado; Dyanna Wittman of Windham, Jennifer Street of Guilford and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Thursday 2pm at the Monson Community Church with Pastor Daryl Witmer officiating. Spring burial will be in the Hillside cemetery in Monson. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

DORIS (BRIDGES) AIKEN
DEXTER & HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA – Doris (Bridges) Aiken, 86, died February 25, 2000 in Hollywood, Florida. She was born November 21, 1913 in Marion, Maine the daughter of Earl and Mirian (Russell) Bridges. She graduated from N. H. Fay High School, Class of 1932, Beny College in Miami, Florida, with a Batchelor's Degree in Education, Class of 1968, and Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, with a Master's Degree in Education in 1972. Doris taught school at the Church of the Little Flower School in Hollywood from 1955 to 1984.

She was predeceased by her husband Graham L. Aiken in 1986.

She is survived by a daughter, Grace Landon of Columbia, South Carolina; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 3 step grandsons; 3 step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter with Pastor Lois Merrifield officiating. Friends may call on Saturday from 1PM until the time of the service. Spring burial will be in the family lot, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.

MADELINE R. (DUCETTE) ATWATER
DEXTER, Madeline R. (Ducette) Atwater, 85, died Feb. 22, 2000 at a Waterville nursing home following a long illness. She was born Sept. 12, 1914 in Parkman, daughter of James Leslie and Eunice (Greeley) Ducette. Madeline touched many lives, caring for unwed mothers, the elderly, and raised many foster children. The great joy for Aunt Maddie, as she was known to most of us who knew her, was crocheting doilies for all of those she loved.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Arnley (Farnham) and Henry Oraso of Las Vegas, Nevada and Iona “Nonie” (Atwater) and Richard Gustafson of W. Palm Beach, Florida; one son and his wife Joseph Archie Atwater and Rose of Pomona, Missouri; two grandsons, Joe Clyde Thomas and Erik Gustafson; a granddaughter, Joni Atwater; three sisters, Nellie Webb of Dexter, Maxine Gould and her husband Chandler of Sangerville and Yvonne Bennett of Guilford; a very dear friend, Alta Carter of Dexter; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Archibald Joseph Atwater, close friend and companion Chester R. Strout; an infant daughter, Imogene Atwater and a sister Dianna Andrews.

Friends may call 6-8 PM Thursday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Harold Wheeler officiating. Spring burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter. Due to the season, in lieu of flowers, if you would like you may send a donation in her memory to the Pine Tree Society for Crippled Children, P.O. Box 518, Bath, ME 04530.
