GLENNYS A. ROBERTS
DEXTER, Glennys A. Roberts, 83, died March 12, 2000 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born Jan. 13,1917 in Skowhegan, daughter of Thomas and Effie (King) Flewelling. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Otis Roberts Jr. in 1995. She was very active in the South Sangerville Grange, Piscataquis, Pamona and Maine State Granges and the Cleora Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by three children, Otis J. Roberts III and his wife Alice of Ludlow, Mass., Patricia White and her husband Phillip Sr. and Linda Farrar all of Corinna; two sisters Opal Ireland of Dexter and Edith McLaughlin of Skowhegan; three brothers, Sheldon Flewelling and his wife Jean of Dexter, Howard Flewelling and his wife Ruth of Hermon and Thomas Flewelling and his wife Lois of Sutherlin, Oregon; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a sister Alfreda Haines and a brother Forest Flewelling.

A Memorial service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday at the First Universalist Church of Dexter with Rev. Dr. Alec Craig officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

ERWIN L. MITHEE
ABBOT, A graveside committal service for Erwin L. Mithee, who died March 15, 2000, will be held Friday May 5 at 10 AM at the Sangerville Village cemetery with Rev. Lloyd Rozelle officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

MAX K. MONROE
WINTER HAVEN, FLORIDA, Max K. Monroe, 69, died at his home March 14, 2000, in Winter Haven, Florida, following a long illness. He was born March 18, 1930, in Garland, Maine son of Carl and Mattie (King) Monroe. He attended Sangerville High School and then served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After the service he moved to Wallingford, CT. and then in 1987 he moved to Winter Haven, Florida. He was very active in the Eagles Club in Wallingford and in the VFW both in Wallingford and in Winter Haven.

He is survived by two brothers, N. Carl Monroe and his wife Marjorie of Greensboro, NC and Derry H. Monroe of Wallingford, CT; a sister Ruth Schultz of Guilford, Maine; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Lyle Monroe and Larry Monroe and a sister, Rena Kozak.

Spring burial will be in the Sangerville Village cemetery at a time to be announced. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

JOSEPH PHILIP ARGUIN
DEXTER – Joseph Philip Arguin, 76, died March 18, 2000 at a Dexter healthcare facility. He was born September 24, 1923 at Sherbrooke, PQ, Canada, the son of Philip and Anna (Provost) Arguin. He graduated from Dexter High School, Class of 1945, and attended the Fanny Farmer Cooking School in Boston. Phil worked for many years as a bartender at the Crescent Hotel in Waterville, the Sterling Hotel in Dexter, and the Dexter Motor Lodge. He was a communicant of St. Anne’s Parish, where he served for many years as the caretaker. He was a member of Cardinal Mercier Council 2625, Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his sister, Gertrude Sherburne and one nephew, Richard Sherburne, both of Augusta; 5 nieces, Joan Burke, Barbara Haines, and Gloria Landry, all of Dexter, Dorothy Koller of Colorado Springs, CO, and Carmen Hodge of Monmouth.

At his request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A.M. Tuesday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter with Rev. Paul Marquis officiating. Spring Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Dexter Healthcare Patient Activity Fund, 64 Park Street, Dexter 04930. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

EMOGENE A. RONCO
DEXTER, Emogene A. Ronco, 80, died March 20, 2000 at a Dexter health care facility. She was born Feb. 10, 1920 in Milo, daughter of Guy and Minnie (McCutchion) Heal. She worked for Fay Scott Co. in Dexter during WWII and later for Dexter Shoe. She also did housekeeping for several prominent citizens of Dexter. She was a member of the Dexter Fish and Game Association. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick A. Ronco in 1976; she was also predeceased by four brothers and a sister.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Duane and Bunny Ronco of Sebec and Roger and Brenda Ronco of Sangerville; two daughters and their husbands, Joyce and Ronald Farley of Anchorage, Alaska and Mary and Bruce Richards of Dexter and a step-daughter, Marlene Ronco of Florida and Waterville, Maine; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Ray Beless officiating. Spring burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter.

In lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations to the Pine Tree Society for Crippled Children, P.O. Box 518, Bath, ME 04530.

CHARLOTTE A. VENTRE
STETSON – Charlotte A. Ventre, 91, died March 19, 2000 at a Bangor nursing home. She was born January 18, 1909 at Boston, Mass. the daughter of Archie and Annie (Curtis) Price. She was predeceased by her husband Nicholas in 1991. Charlotte was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield. She was also a member of the Ladies Aide of Stetson.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Shirley Fontaine of Stetson, and Barbara Olsen of Daytona, FL; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.

There will be no public visitation in Maine. Friends may call 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, 3 Charles Street, Weymouth, Mass., where funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, South Weymouth, Mass. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

BARBARA VIRGINIA (MCKENNEY) MITCHELL
ETNA – Barbara Virginia (McKenney) Mitchell, 76, beloved wife of Frank C. Mitchell, Sr., went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ March 21, 2000 at her home with her family by her bedside after a very long illness. Barbara was born July 25, 1923 at Cambridge the daughter of George W. and Myra L. (Stevens) McKenney. She attended Pittsfield schools and was a member of the Etna Rebekahs. She was also a past Grange member. Barbara had been employed at Snowflake Canning Company, Eastland Woolen Mill, and Robert Ellen Shoe. But Barbara's most important job was being a loving wife and mother to her six children, whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by 2 sons, Olan and Richard; five brothers, Perley, Charlie, Norman, Carroll, and Glenwood; 4 sisters, Susie, Jenny, Olive, and Myrtle; several nieces and nephews, and a son-in-law, Bruce Fitts. She was a devoted Nana to her 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her husband of nearly 54 years, 2 sons, Edward and his wife Delores of Surry, and Frank, Jr. of Etna; 4 daughters, Virginia Barbara Fitts of Carmel, Respah Helen and her husband Allen Graves, Martha Marie and her husband John Parlee, all of Etna; and Chavala D. Davis of Sullivan; one sister, Martha Alexander and her husband Lewis of Hudson, FL; a very dear best friend, Louise McCutcheon of Etna; a very special nurse, Helena Mailloux. Barbara left with the peace of knowing she was loved and that she had touched each life in a very special way.

Friends may call 7-9 P.M, Thursday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Friday, March 24th, with Rev. Ronnie Libby officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Etna.

LOIS M. COOKSON
GUILFORD, Lois M. Cookson, 81, died March 23, 2000 at a Hartland health care facility. She was born Jan. 23, 1919 in Stockholm.

She is survived by a son, Robert Cookson of Manassas, Virginia, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford, with Rev. Dr. Margaret "Dodie" Stowe officiating. Spring burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in Guilford.

IVIS L. ROWE
PALMYRA – Ivis L. Rowe, 88, died March 23, 2000 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born April 27, 1911 at Cambridge the daughter of Simeon and Lucy (Treat) Wilder. She was employed as a shoe inspector at several area shoe shops. She and her husband Kenneth owned and operated a dairy farm in Palmyra for many years. He predeceased her in 1980. She was also predeceased by a daughter Dawn (Rowe) Whitney in 1963, and a great granddaughter, Abigail Mason Rowe in 1998. She was a member of Deeper Life Assembly in Pittsfield, and was a past member of the Palmyra Grange. She will be remembered for a television interview where her graduation at the age of 77 in 1988, and with her grand-daughter-in-law, was discussed. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and also made and sold costume jewelry.

She is survived by her son Wilbur and his wife Carol Rowe of Palmyra; one sister, Beulah Bates of Hermon; a sister-in-law, Beverly Wilder of Palmyra; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandsons; 2 step great grandchildren.

There will be no public visitation. A graveside funeral service will be held later in the spring at the family lot, Palmyra Village Cemetery, with the Rev. Millard Dickinson officiating. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Bangor Street, Suite F, Augusta, ME 04338-2208. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport, ME 04953.

LILLIAN G. BROCKMAN
GUILFORD, Lillian G. Brockman, 74, went to be with the Lord, March 23, 2000. She was born 05-08-1925 in Stockholm, Maine daughter of Mack and Sadie (Gravelle) Thibeau. She was predeceased by her husband, William Brockman Sr. in 1998. She worked for many years at Guilford of Maine and was a member of the Sebec Corner Baptist Church. Lill had many brothers and sisters in Christ that loved her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by a son William Brockman Jr. and his wife Laura of Saco; a brother, Guilford Thibeau of South Carolina; a grandson Joshua Brockman of Saco.

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Thursday March 30 at the Sebec Corner Baptist with Rev. Isaiah Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Greenville cemetery later in the spring. Those who wish may make donations to the Sebec Corner Baptist Church. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

PENELOPE J. RICHARDSON - wife, mother
WINDHAM AND DEXTER - Penny J. Richardson, 61, of the Gray Road in Windham, died of cancer, March 30, 2000 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born Apr 14, 1938, in Dexter, daughter of Dennis M. and Dorothy Cleaves. She graduated from Dexter High School and attended Gorham State Teacher's College. Her family described her as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was active in Our Lady's of Perpetual Help Parish in Windham and was an avid gardener.

Surviving are her husband of forty years, Gordon C. Richardson of Windham; her parents of Portland, three daughters, Jennifer Richardson of Windham, Suzanne White and husband Paul of Hermon, Katherine Rossi and husband Thomas of Portsmouth, NH; two sisters, Meredyth Chabot of Cumberland, and Cynthia Simpson of Casco, and a brother Dennis Cleaves Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter later in the spring. A memorial service will be held at Our Lady's of Perpetual Help at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011.

VALLIE L. BYRON
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Vallie L. Byron, 63, wife of John R. C. Byron, passed away April 2, 2000, at a Dexter nursing home, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was born Sept. 1, 1936, in Laconia, N.H., the daughter of Edward and Anna (Hurd) Hobbs. Vallie worked for several years at New England Telephone, Brooks Drug Store and Ames Department Store, in Dover-Foxcroft.

She leaves behind her husband of 45 years, John of Dover-Foxcroft; two daughters, Catherine Kolashuk and her husband, Greg of Dover-Foxcroft, Debbi Byron of Bangor; a son, John C. Byron and his wife, Angel of Dover-Foxcroft; six grandchildren, Megan and Susan Kolashuk, Tara and Amy Carmichael, Josie Byron and a stepgrandson, Bradley Pingree; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Carmichael, Justin Emery and Ethan Carmichael; a brother, Harold Hobbs; many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by her special sister-in-law, Jane Simko of Falmouth, Mass.; and her dear friend, Lee Daniels of St. George. She was predeceased by a brother, Walter Hobbs; and a great-grandson, Kyle Carmichael.

Friends are encouraged to call at the family home, 539 Rt. 7, Dover-Foxcroft, after 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2000. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.

WILFRED T. “BILL” CANTARA
DOVER-FOXCROFT, Wilfred T. “Bill” Cantara, 75, died April 5, 2000, at his home in Dover-Foxcroft. He was born July 9, 1924 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island son of Wilfred and Delores (Paquette) Cantara. He worked for 31 years for New England Telephone Co. He was an active member of Grace Bible Church in Sangerville where he served as an Elder for many years. He loved the outdoors, especially times at his camp at First Roach Pond, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Pinkerton) Cantara and Marilyn’s mother, Edith Pinkerton both of Dover-Foxcroft; four daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Hank Veilleux of Lamoine, Sally and Jim Comeau of Augusta, Melissa and Paul Frye of Sullivan and Carol Cantro of North Whitefield; a son and his wife, Peter and Lisa Cantara of Greenville; two step-sons and their wives, Joseph and Lisa Masteika of Amherst, Mass. and Peter Masteika of Dover, New Hampshire; a brother and his wife, Edwin and Agnes Cantara of Macwahoc; ten grandchildren; a great grandson; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Carolyn (Chisholm) Cantara and a sister, Rita.

Friends may call 6-8 PM Thursday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday at the Grace Bible Church, High St., Sangerville, with Rev. David Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Robinson Memorial cemetery in Moscow later in the spring. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to, Grace Bible Church, P.O. Box 157, Sangerville, ME 04479.

KENNETH A. BRASIER
RIPLEY – Kenneth A. Brasier, 74, died April 11, 2000 at his home in Ripley, following a prolonged illness. He was born December 25, 1925 in Monson, son of Harry and Rowena (Adams) Brasier. He graduated from Monson Academy, served in the Army Air Corp. during WWII, and was a member of the American Legion. After the service he worked in Dexter at the cannery where he met his wife of 54 years, Nellie. From Dexter he moved to the Haseltine family farm where he and his brother-in-law helped to build the Ripley telephone lines, and where he operated the Grove Hill Greenhouse. He was a past member of the Ripley Grange, a member of the Ripley Trail Riders Snowmobile Club, and served many years as the Town Treasurer of Ripley. Ken was also retired from the Postal Service where he served as a rural mail carrier in Dexter. In 1994 he and his son-in-law started the Grove Hill Elk and Deer Farm.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie (Haseltine) Brasier of Ripley; four sons, Daniel C. Brasier of Ripley, Richard D. Brasier of Parkman, William E. Brasier of Ripley, and James T. Brasier of Garland; three daughters, Linda Leavitt of Ripley, Diana McGlinchey of Ripley, and Donna Brasier of Ripley; a brother, Clifford Brasier of Pembroke, MA; 28 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a celebration of his life, which will be held at the farm in Ripley on Thurs., April 13 at 7pm. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his name to the EMMC ICU Nurse’s Fund c/o Dexter Regional Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 233, Dexter, ME 04930. Graveside services will be held later in the spring at the Ferndale cemetery in Ripley. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

JAMES R. GOULD
CAMBRIDGE, James R. Gould, 48, died April 11, 2000 at his home in Cambridge. He was born May 26, 1951 in Wakefield, Rhode Island, son of William and Doris (Marco) Gould. He was self-employed as a farrier in the local area. He loved his family and enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He was a member and former Fire Chief of the Cambridge Fire Dept.

He is survived by his mother of Rhode Island; his wife, Ellie (Hull) Gould of Cambridge; two daughters; Holly Gould of Mass. and Heather and her husband Anthony Licata of Cambridge; one grandson, Bailey Licata of Cambridge; two brothers, Fred Gould of Rhode Island and Steven Gould of Florida; a sister, Elaine Johnston of Rhode Island; several nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by special friends, Linda Armstrong of Cambridge and Josh Drennen of Mass.

A Memorial service will be held at 2 PM Sunday at the Cambridge Grange Hall with Pastor Robert Emrich officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in his memory to Piscataquis Community High School, 9 Campus Drive, Guilford, ME 04443 for a scholarship fund. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.
