HAROLD K. MELVIN
GUILFORD, Harold K. Melvin, 78, died April 14, 2000 at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. He was born July 10, 1921 in South Paris son of Herbert and Mary (Bennett) Melvin. He graduated from Bentley College and then served in the US Navy during WWII. Following the service he worked for Martin Anderson for several years in Portland during which time he studied for and received his CPA. In 1956 he was hired as the controller for Guilford Woolen now known as Guilford of Maine where he worked until 1990. He was a member of the First Universalist Church of Sangerville and was very active in Community affairs.

He is survived by his wife, Katherene (Flanders) Melvin of Guilford; a daughter and her husband, Ann and Gordon Manuel of Greenville, South Carolina; 2 grandchildren Liza Manuel of Greenville, South Carolina and Chad Manuel of Hudson. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford.

Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday at the First Universalist Church of Sangerville with Rev. Dr. Alec Craig officiating. Burial will be in the Village cemetery in Sangerville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the First Universalist Church, P.O. Box 9, Sangerville, ME 04479 or to the Hibbard Nursing Home, P.O. Box 150, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.

EUGENE S. GRAY
DIXMONT & PLYMOUTH – Eugene S. Gray, 66, died April 15, 2000 at a Bangor hospital. He was born February 22, 1934 at Plymouth the son of Eugene I. And Cora (Nelson) Gray. He graduated from Newport High School and served in the U. S. Army. He belonged to several lodges and had been active in the community.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Evelyn Gray of Dixmont; a daughter, Mickey Dionne of Canaan; A brother, Louis C. Gray of Plymouth; several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

A graveside committal service will be held 10 AM Tuesday at Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

RACHEL B. ULMAN
HERMON, Rachel B. Ulman, 45, died April 20, 2000 at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 23, 1954 in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of Charles and Ellen (Tompkins) Brown. She graduated from Foxcroft Academy class of 1972, University of Maine at Ft. Kent class of 1977 and attended the University of Maine in Orono where she received her teaching degree. She taught in the SAD #4 School system, first in Abbot and for the past ten years at the McKusick School in Parkman where she touched the lives of many young people.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Ulman of Hermon; 2 daughters, Lauren Ulman of Bangor and Lindsay Ulman of Hermon; seven sisters and their spouses, Carolyn and William Amos of Abbot, Susan Marshall of Bangor, Margaret and Thomas Houlihan of Cape Neddick, Judith and Fred Judkins of Waterville, Jeanne and Gordon Reed of Monson, Deborah and Ricky Saucier of Hermon and Alisa and Roger Adams of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers and their wives, Charles and Katherine Brown of Abbot and David and Margaret Brown of Bangor. She will also be fondly remembered by each of her many nieces and nephews whom she loved as special individuals. She was predeceased by a sister, Rebecca Austin and a brother in law Charles Marshall.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 PM Saturday at the Crosby & Neal FuneralHome, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Memorial services will be held at 3 PM Sunday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Arbisi officiating. Burial will be in the Abbot Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to a Scholarship Fund to be used for a graduating senior who attended the McKusick School. Donations may be sent to P.C.H.S., 25 Campus Drive, Guilford, ME 04443.

FRANCIS C. PITKIN
DEXTER, Francis C. Pitkin, 72, died April 22, 2000 at a Dexter health Care facility. He was born Sept. 20, 1927, in Marshfield, Vermont, son of Clarence and Amy Pitkin. He graduated from Austine School For the Deaf, in Brattleboro, Vermont in 1948. He worked for 27 years at Maple Farms Dairy in Brattleboro. In 1976 he moved to Dexter, Maine and worked at Fayscott Co. and later for Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft.

He is survived by a sister, Irene Cochrane of Dexter; several nieces and nephews and all of their families and his extended family, employees of Mayo Regional Hospital.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held May 19th from 7-9 PM at the Brewster Inn in Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Mayo Regional Hospital, 75 W. Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426 or to the Dexter Sunshine Club, c/o Nancy Baldwin, 59 Acadia St., Dexter, ME 04930. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

ERWIN L. MITHEE
ABBOT, A graveside committal service for Erwin L. Mithee, who died March 15, 2000, will be held Friday May 5 at 10 AM at the Sangerville Village cemetery with Rev. Lloyd Rozelle officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

ELSIE A. CASSIDY
NEWPORT – Elsie A. Cassidy, 70, died April 28, 2000 at a Pittsfield nursing home. She was born December 1, 1929 at Pittsfield the daughter of George and Lucy McNally. She retired from Eastland Woolen Mill and had previously worked at Snowflake Canning Company.

She is survived by a son, Robert Cassidy of Newport.

A graveside committal service will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday, May 10th, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with the Rev. Ron Chaffee officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

DENNIS A. DOW
PALMYRA – Dennis A. Dow, 68, passed away April 28, 2000 at a Pittsfield hospital. Dennis was a well known and respected car dealer in the Newport area for 40 years. Prior to moving to the Newport area he was a blacksmith in Perham, his hometown. He was a member of Washburn Masonic Lodge #193, and attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Newport.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn (Stevenson) Dow of Palmyra; 2 daughters, Katrina K. Graves of Hartland, Lorrie J. Hamlin, and her husband Russ of Kenduskeag; a son, Dennis M. Dow and his wife Wanda of Newport; a sister, Alice D. Killam of Palmyra; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Emery Dow and Tonnie Leaura (Wilcox) Dow; brothers, Merle J. and Thomas S. Dow of Perham; and a sister Hilda Banks of Vacaville, CA.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, with the Reverends Michael Stephenson and Rae Pennock officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 P.M. until time of services. The officers and members of Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge will also participate in the funeral service. A private committal service will be held at Palmyra Village cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Building Fund at Calvary Baptist Church, 29 Grove Street, Newport, ME 04953.

FLORENCE S. CONLOGUE
MILO - Florence S. Conlogue, 78, wife of the late Hazen G. Conlogue Jr., died April 28, 2000, at her residence. She was born July 29, 1921, in Bradford, the daughter of Leslie Amos and Emma (Russell) Grant. Florence sold Avon products for many years and especially enjoyed all the friends she had made.

She is survived by two sons, Hazen Conlogue III and Waverly Conlogue, both of Brownville Junction; three daughters, Jacqueline Bondeik of Plano, Texas, Judith London of Milo, Robbie Lyn Conlogue of Sebec; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by her special Avon friend, Jean Mayo; and her home health-care providers, Lynette Beard and her mother, Cheryl Hobson, Marilyn Willsey and Violet Grant. She was predeceased by two grandsons, Michael Bondeik and William London Jr.

Friends are invited to call 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Lary Funeral Home, Milo, where a memorial service will be conducted 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, with the Rev. David McLeish officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery.

PAULINE M. JONES
BROWNVILLE - Graveside memorial services for Pauline M. Jones, 46, will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2000, at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth, with the Rev. David Bean officiating.

Arrangements are by Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Rd., Corinth.

EDWARD H. MARSH
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Edward Marsh, 70, of Pleasant St. died peacefully, Sunday, April 30, 2000, at his residence. He was born in Rochester, N.H., June 10, 1929, the son of Clarence and Ada (Hunt) Marsh. He attended local schools and later Boston University, graduating with a BA in Business Administration. Edward was an active member of the Mason's Abner Wade Lodge in Sangerville, the American Legion in Dover-Foxcroft and the local D.A.R.E. programs. He enjoyed reading and being with family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Janice Marsh; daughter, Stacey Boss and husband, Steven of Hampden, Laura Marsh of New York; son, Edward Jr. and wife, Debbie of Hermon; brother Robert Marsh of Massachusetts; grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Zachary Boss, Lindsey and Alexander Marsh.

A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Methodist Church in Dover-Foxcroft with pastor David McLeish officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Mayo Regional Hospital, 75 West Main St., Dover-Foxcroft or the D.A.R.E. Program, care of the Piscataquis County Sheriffs Department.

Arrangements are under the care of Pine State Cremation Service, Greenville 800-769-6371.

FREDA (BUTTERFIELD) FRASER
NEWPORT – Freda H. Fraser, 76, died May 3, 2000 at a Pittsfield health care facility after a long illness. She was born January 6, 1924 at Bangor the daughter of Albert and Mary (Locke) Butterfield. She graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1942. She had been a spinner at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna and Skiland Woolen Mill in Clinton, retiring in 1986. Freda was a 57-year member of Eastville Grange in East Newport.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Fraser, of Newport; special nieces, Alice Gibbs of Etna and Susan Burnham of North Carolina; several cousins.

There will be no public viewing. A graveside funeral service will be held 10 A.M. Friday, May 5th, at the Butterfield family lot, Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with the Rev. Timothy Hutchins officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

BETTY JANE HOLSAPPLE
DEXTER – Betty Jane Holsapple, 73, died peacefully Thursday, May 4, 2000 at her Dexter home. She was born June 5, 1926 at Springfield, Massachusetts the daughter of Jack and Ruth (Skelton) Wiley. On August 30, 1947, she married Donald Holsapple, and in 1949 they moved to Dexter, where they raised their four sons: Bruce of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gary of Lincolnville Center, Kevin of Bangor, and Eric of Loveland, Colorado.

In addition to her husband, Betty is also survived by her brothers, Donald and John Wiley, and her sister Ruth Porro, all of Springfield, MA; and her uncle, Gurney Skelton of Treasure Island, Florida. Besides her work as a wife, mother and Grandmother, Betty worked side by side with Don to develop and operate Camp Dexter for Boys, which later became Camp Dexter Family Campground. She was a member of many local organizations, including the Dexter United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Dexter Historical Society, the Sunshine Club, the Maine Audubon Society, and several local Bridge groups. An avid nature lover and bird watcher, she was a member of several birding clubs, both here and in North Carolina, where she and Don spent many winters. She was also keenly interested in genealogy and local history, and worked as a research assistant for Frank Spizuoco's recent publication Our Neighborly Neighbors. Betty's chief interest and greatest joy was her family, which grew to include nine grandchildren, Justin, Jacob, Megan, Nathan, Matthew, Benjamin, Ryan, Kaitlyn, and Kohlton, and one great grandchild, Dimitri. She will be deeply missed by a wide circle of family and friends, in Dexter and beyond.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Saturday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday at the Dexter United Methodist Church with the Reverend Lois Merrifield officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dexter Historical Society, P.O. Box 481, Dexter 04930.

MARSH B. SAVAGE
STETSON, Marsh B. Savage, 83, died May 7, 2000 at a Bangor Hospital. He was born Aug. 27, 1916 in Chester, son of James and Susan (Booker) Savage. He was educated in Palmyra and Stetson schools. He served in the US Army during WWII in Italy, North Africa and Anzio and received a Purple Heart. For many years he was self-employed as a farmer and woodsman. He also worked for Cummings Woolen Mill and Banton Brothers in Newport.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Tibbetts) Savage of Stetson; five daughters, Wendy Savage of Orono, Tracey Savage of Bradford, Beth Savage of Texas, Julie Savage of Portland and Debra Savage of Bangor; three step children, Pamela Bedard of Texas, Lisa Day and her husband Gary of Raymond and Mark Bedard of Maryland; three sisters, Paula Beem of Stetson, Dorothy Keller of Arizona and Juanita Orman of California; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer, Emily, Erica and Devon; two great grandchildren, Tristian and Kelsey; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main St., Newport. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Edward Jaworski officiating. Burial will be in the Clarks Hill cemetery in Stetson. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 346, Augusta, ME 04332.

CORINNA – A graveside committal service for Emily G. Frank, who died January 7, 2000, will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday, May 9th, at Morses Corner Cemetery, Corinna. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Corinna.
