GEORGE A. SANDY
HARMONY, George A. Sandy, 80, died May 31, 2000 at a Skowhegan nursing home. He was born 03-29-1920 in Medway, son of George and Vera (Spinney) Sandy. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater. He was a member of the VFW Post #1617 in Derry, New Hampshire. He worked in steel building and was a millwright at Holt and Bugbee Lumber Co. in Tewksbury, Mass.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marion (Jacobson) Sandy of Harmony; a son Carlton Sandy of Allenstown, New Hampshire; a daughter Pamela and her husband Dennis Brunet of Derry, New Hampshire; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and several cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Saturday June 17, 2000 at the Hillside cemetery in Monson. Those who wish may make donations to the American Lung Asso., 128 Sewall St., Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

VIOLET M. PACKARD
GUILFORD, Violet M. Packard, 84, died June 1, 2000 at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born May 9, 1916 in Monson, daughter of Willie and Myrtle (Knowles) Dauphinee. She lived in the Guilford area for most of her life and worked for Guilford of Maine for 26 years. She was an avid reader and loved gardening. She was predeceased by her husband, Myron C. Packard in 1995.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Winnie and Richard Elderkin of Parkman; two brothers and their wives, William and Ruth Dauphinee of Willimantic and Carl and Helen Dauphinee of Florida; three sisters in law, Adeline Dauphinee of N. Guilford, Inez Bemis of Harmony and Mildred Dube of Dexter; a brother in law, Elden Packard of Parkman; three grandchildren and their spouses, Judy and Fred Howard of Hallowell, Debby and Jerry Willis of Gardiner and Mike and Gerri Elderkin of Abbot; five great grandsons; several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Butch Elderkin and a brother, Lawrence Dauphinee.

Friends may call 6-8 PM Sunday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Graveside services will be held at 10 am Monday at the Elmwood cemetery in Guilford with Pastor Lloyd Rozelle officiating.

MATTHEW JOSEPH POOLER
DEXTER - Matthew Joseph Pooler, 26, died June 1, 2000, at his Park Street residence after a long illness. He was born July 13, 1973, at Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Carroll and Christine (Smith) Pooler. He graduated from Dexter Regional High School, Class of 1991. On June 22, 1996, he married Shelly Marie Nagle. He was employed as a shipping clerk at Maine Sysco in Newport until 1999 when he stopped working full time due to failing health. Matt also owned and operated Pooler's Lawn Care. He enjoyed snowmobiling and mud running. He was a communicant of St. Anne's Parish.

In addition to his parents and wife of Dexter, he is survived by his paternal grandmother, Rita Larson and maternal grandfather, William Smith, both of Dexter; one brother, M. Luke Pooler and his wife, Michelle of Windham; a niece, Molly and a special godson, Joshua Smith; several aunts and uncles; and many dear friends. Matt was also loved by his pets, Scout, Otis and Oliver.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 4 p.m. Monday, June 5, at the Dexter Regional High School gymnasium with the Rev. James Gower officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Matt Pooler Memorial Playground, care of Town Office, P.O. Box 313, Dexter, 04930.

DAVID C. GILBERT
PALMYRA—David Clifford Gilbert, 16, passed away June 5, 2000 after a full but short life with family and friends at his side.He was born September 12, 1983 at Waterville, the son of David N. and Nancy A. (Randall) Gilbert.David was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Pittsfield where he was baptized and received his confirmation.He was a sophomore at Nokomis Regional High, earning his high school credits at Newport Junior High.He enjoyed music, walk-a-thons, plays, the ocean, sitting in a boat, whether it was in the water or not, and most of all socializing with the students and faculty at Newport-Plymouth School and anyone who enjoyed life.His gift to them was his smile.

He is survived by his parents; a sister, Veronica Jane Gilbert; 2 brothers, Charles Randall Gilbert and William Joseph Gilbert all of Palmyra; maternal grandfather, Charles Randall of Palmyra; paternal grandmother, Lucille Gilbert of Hartland; uncles and aunts, Daniel Gilbert and his partner, Sherry, of Hartland, Charles and his wife, Kathy Randall of Somerset, PA, Regina (Randall) Chaisson of Portland, William and his wife, Christina Randall of Palmyra, Chris Petersen of Pittsfield and an angel for an aunt, Florence (Randall) McWilliams and her husband, Rick of Palmyra; his ever devoted cousins, Erin, Meagan, Katie, Patrick and “Luke”, also Jennifer, Kristin, James, Andrew, John, Joey and Emily; several other cousins, aunts and uncles; he was predeceased by his grandmother, Jane Randall and grandfather, Norman Gilbert.He also leaves very special friends, Zelda and Ted Boyce, Bea and Errol Lanpher, Larry and Sally Goodridge, Rita Cannan, Al and Maxine Marcotte and the never-ending love and care of Dr. John Baker and Gretchen Gehrke.

Friends may call 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 PM Thursday at St. Agnes Church, Pittsfield, with Rev. C. James Martel officiating.Burial will be in the Palmyra Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Technical Exploration Center, Evergreen Woods, 700 Mt. Hope Avenue, Suite 320, Bangor, ME04401.Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

LUKE JUSTIN BURKE
CORINNA – Luke Justin Burke, 20, died unexpectedly June 11, 2000 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born March 20, 1980 at Dover-Foxcroft the son of Lyndon and Veronica (Giles) Burke. Luke was a member of the Class of 1998, Nokomis Regional High School. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, camping and snowmobiling. He was employed by Barrett Paving Company, and spent his free time fulfilling his dreams as a manager at the Countryside Greenhouses, with his second family, David and Adrienne Roundy, Ben, Alex and Seth Roundy.

He will be deeply missed by all whose hearts he touched. Luke is survived by his immediate family: his parents, Chuck and Veronica Burke of Corinna; a sister, Melodie (Nicholas) Pleninger, and her husband Charles of Garland; a brother, Joshua Burke of Corinna; and Luke’s love, Melony Berry of Newport; his maternal grandparents, Geraldine Giles of Dexter, Wendell and Colleen Giles of Garland; paternal grandmother, Lucy Burke of St. Albans; 2 nephews, Gaige and Phillip Pleninger, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends. Luke was predeceased by his grandfather, Harland Burke.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Luke’s life during visiting hours to be held from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday June 13th, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Exeter Road, Corinna. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday, June 14th, at the Douglas Doyon Gymnasium, Corinna Elementary School, with the Rev. Al Worden officiating. Burial will be in Corinna Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send donations to the Agricultural Fund; c/o Superintendent’s Office; P.O. Box 40; Newport 04953.

EDWARD P. CLUKEY
SANGERVILLE, Edward P. Clukey, 79, died June 11, 2000 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born March 8, 1921 in Dexter son of Albert and Claire (Decker) Clukey. He graduated from N.H. Fay High School in Dexter, class of 1939. He served in the US Navy in the S. Pacific during WWII and was a member of the Stott Flanders American Legion Post #165 in Sangerville. Ed worked for 35 years at Fay Scott in Dexter as a machinist and toolmaker and later for 8 years for Numberall in Sangerville. He was a communicant of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sangerville, and was a 3rd degree knight and a past Grand Knight of the Father Patrick Hayes Counsel #3172 Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Verna (Moulton) Clukey of Sangerville; a son, Michael E. Clukey of Guilford; a daughter and her husband, Catharine and Oliver Frankowski of Dexter; three grandchildren, Aric and his wife Amanda Frankowski of North Haven, Kristen Clukey and Karen Clukey both of Guilford; a great granddaughter Jessica Frankowski of North Haven; a sister and her husband, Anita and Fred Mitchell of Etna; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Clukey of Conn.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Omar Clukey.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Sangerville with Rev. Paul Marquis officiating. Burial will be in the Mt Pleasant cemetery in Dexter. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the St. Thomas Aquinas-Holy Family Parish, 45 High St., Dover-Foxcroft, 04426.

NELLIE CEBALLOS FOX
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Nellie Ceballos Fox, 36, died June 13, 2000, after a long and hard struggle with a terminal illness. She was born Aug. 18, 1963, in Manhattan, N.Y., the daughter of Carlos and Maria Ceballos. Nellie was a strong woman of faith, who took all that life gave her and allowed the Lord to lead her. She was a devoted mom who put all her energy into raising her children. Nellie's love and devotion was a source of strength to her brother and sisters. Everyone who came in contact with Nellie walked away with a better understanding of faith and determination.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Maria Periera of East Corinth and Kathleen Theresa Fox of Dover-Foxcroft; a son, Gabriel Patrick Fox of Dover-Foxcroft; a brother, Joel Ceballos of Pembroke Pines, Fla. and a sister, Nereida Ceballos of Reading, Pa.; nieces, Chasity, Allison and Janell; nephews, Anthony, Brandon, Carlos and Michael. She will also be missed by special friends, Ernest and Mona Jean Philbrick and their family, of Corinth; Nicole of Old Town; the Glad Tidings Church family; the Living Word Assembly of God Church family. She will be especially missed by Jay and Maria Philbrick of E. Corinth, who were of great help to Nellie in her last days. Nellie was predeceased by her sister, Loyda Ceballos, Jan. 10, 1995; and by her parents, Carlos and Maria Ceballos in 1993.

Friends are invited to call from 12 noon until time of service at 1 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2000, at the Living Word Assembly of God Church, Dover-Foxcroft, with Pastor Thomas Bruce officiating. Burial will be in Lee cemetery following the service. Contributions in Nellie's memory to benefit her family, may be sent to Pastor Tom Bruce, care of Living Word Assembly of God Church, 66 East Main St., Dover-Foxcroft 04426. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.

ALLEN E. BRYSON
PALMYRA – Allen E. Bryson, 65, died June 22, 2000 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born July 15, 1934 at Corinna the son of Michael and Cecil (Whittaker) Bryson. He graduated from Corinna Union Academy, Class of 1953, and attended a year of technical college while serving in the United States Air Force. On May 9, 1964, He married Shirley M. Fletcher. Allen was employed at Baxter’s Canning Company in Corinna until it was destroyed by fire. He then was employed at Irving Tannery in Hartland for 17 years. He also worked at Bud’s Shop & Save in Newport and also at WalMart prior to his retirement in 1996. Allen also served as Sexton for the Town Of Palmyra for a number of years. He will be remembered as an avid gardener.

In addition to his wife of 36 years, he is survived by 2 sons, Shawn Bryson of St. Albans, and Steven Bryson of Palmyra; a daughter, Sharon Bryson of Palmyra; 2 brothers, Merle Bryson of Danforth, and Owen Bryson of Gardiner; 6 sisters, Arlene Ireland, Muriel Robinson, Lurene Parker, and Emilie Gould, all of Corinna, Shirley Brodeur of Millinocket, and Audrey Gudroe of Fairfield, 3 grandchildren, Ryan Bryson, Taylor Bryson, and Priscilla Chambers. He was predeceased by a sister, Iris Tuttle.

At his Request there will be no visiting hours. A graveside funeral service will be held 10 A.M. Monday, June 26th, at Palmyra Village Cemetery, with the Rev. Lewis Bell officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 654 State Street, Bangor 04401. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

MARION C. COY
DEXTER —Marion C. Coy, 97, a long-time resident of 14 Park Street, Dexter, died Wednesday evening, June 21, 2000 at Maine General Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Glenridge, Augusta, where she had been a resident since November, 1999. She was born January 24, 1903 at Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of Franklin E. and Mabel (Brown) Chandler. She graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1921, Farmington Normal School in 1926 and received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1956. Marion taught school in Dover-Foxcroft for three years and in Topsham for one year. She then taught in Dexter for thirty-eight years, with her last position being principal before her retirement in 1965. Marion touched the lives of many in her hometown and was an active member of her community, belonging to the First Baptist Church of Dexter. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Wassookeag Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and held several other star offices as well. She was a member of the Eastern Star Club, the Dexter Day Extension,the Piscataquis County Retired Teachers’ Association, the Maine Retired Teachers’ Association, the National Retired Teachers’ Association and the Golden Age Club. She was an active volunteer with the Dexter Historical Society.

She is survived by her nephew, Donald C. Hoxie and his wife, Joyce of Augusta, and their children, Gregory Hoxie and Melanie Young; her niece, Ann McCarthy and her husband, Robert of Augusta, and their children, Patrick, Mark and Brent McCarthy, several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles M. Coy and her sister, Louise Chandler Hoxie.

There will be no visiting hours.Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Monday, June 26th, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter, with the Rev. Jay Brennan officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Donations in her memory may be made to the Dexter Sunshine Club, c/o Nancy Baldwin, Treasurer, 59 Acadia Street, Dexter, ME 04930

ERNEST A. BOYLE
STETSON – ErnestA.Boyle, 89, died June 29, 2000 at a Skowhegan health-care facility. He was born April 6, 1911 at Hampton, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Francis and Agnes (McMackin) Boyle. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield, and a member of Cardinal Mercier Council 2625 Knights of Columbus. He moved to Maine in 1929, working in the Portland Ship Yard during World War II, and later for the Iron Workers Union,working at various locations throughout Maine for over 50 years. Ernest belonged to Local 496 in Clinton.

He is survived by 1 brother, Paulof St. John, N.B.;3 sisters, Josephine Boyle and Marguerite Doherty, both of St. John, N.B., and Florence Carpenter of Lower Kars, N.B.; many nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his dear friends, Richard and Ellen Poulin of Clinton.

Friends may call 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Sunday, Atlantic Time, at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Service, Ltd., 100 Waterloo Street, St. John, N.B.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 3rd, Atlantic Time, at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception, St. John, N.B.Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Hampton, N.B.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Agnes Parochial School, P.O. GERALD T. GOULETTE
DEXTER, Gerald T. Goulette, 76, died July 1, 2000 at a Bangor nursing home. He was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Dexter, son of Phillip and Victoria (Goulette) Goulette. He graduated from N.H. Fay High School and then served in the US Army Corps. of Engineers, 150th Battalion, during WWII, receiving a Bronze Star. After the service he owned and operated a Texaco service station and Bottled Gas business in Dexter. In 1960 Gerald began working for his brother, Eugene Goulette, at the Goulette’s IGA in Guilford. In 1976 he purchased the store, which he operated until his retirement in 1991.

He is survived by, four sons and their wives, Charles and Sandra Goulette of Seattle, Washington, David and Carol Goulette of Bath, Barry and Ellen Goulette of Guilford and Allen and Angela Goulette of Dexter; a daughter, Deborah Gould of Chicago, Illinois; 3 sisters and their husbands, Vernita and Henry Gajewski of New Hampshire, Virginia and Kenneth Veazie of Corinna, Christina and Joseph Murphy of Winslow; 7 grandchildren; nieces and nephews and his companion, Dorothy Scott of Parkman. He was predeceased by a brother Eugene Goulette and 2 sisters, Inez David and Geraldine Dyer.

Friends may call 5-8 PM Tuesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Wed at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dexter with Fr. Raymond Morancy officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter.

BAYARD PFUNTNER PEAKES
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Bayard Pfuntner Peakes, died July 1, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Center in Togas from cardiac arrest.He was born in Dover-Foxcroft, December 14, 1922, son of Benjamin and Barbara Peakes. As a teenager, Bayard loved to fish and his poetry appeared in a Foxcroft Academy publication. Awarded a scholarship to Renessler Polytecnic Institute in New York State; he chose rather, after graduating from the Academy, to go to Canada to join the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Following the United States entry into the war, he transferred to our Air Force in England. After his discharge from the military, he attended Northeastern University in Boston. Circumstances prevented his return to Maine to live until the 1970’s and he was able to care for his aging mother for five and a half years, until May of 1978. Togas then became his home.

Survivors include his brother, Alfred of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, Washington; his sister, Constance, of Cottage Grove, Oregon; two nieces and three nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at the Pfuntner-Peakes family plot in the Gray cemetery in Dover-Foxcroft. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

ANGELA C. COTE
PLYMOUTH – Angela C. Cote, 23, died unexpectedly July 5th, 2000 at her Route 69 residence. She was born March 22, 1977 at Waterville the daughter of Roland and Avalone (Richards) Cote, Jr. She was a graduate of Winslow High School, and attended the University of Maine at Orono, and Kennebec Valley Technical College.

In addition to her parents of Greenville, Angela is survived by her son, Colby J. Cogswell, and her significant other, Edward Cogswell, both of Plymouth; one brother, Roland J. Cote III, his wife Lisa Cote, and their children, Kaila and Sean Cote, all of Winslow; one sister Glendina B. Cote of Greenville; many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jacinna Jade Cogswell.

At the request of the family, there will be no public viewing. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service 11 A.M. Saturday, July 8th, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Al H. Worden officiating. Burial will be in the family lot, Greenville Cemetery. There will not be a graveside committal service.

MELVIN J. JUDKINS
GUILFORD, Melvin J. Judkins, 74, died July 6, 2000 at his home in Guilford. He was born March 31, 1926 in Dover-Foxcroft, son of Vernon and Mabel (Perham) Judkins. He attended Dexter Schools and then joined the US Army. He served in the Army for twenty-two years, receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After retiring from the service in 1965, he worked for Dexter Shoe Co. in Dexter for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Cann) Judkins of Guilford; 8 step children; Bonnie Brawn of Dover-Foxcroft, Richard Thompson of Garland, Steven Thompson of New York, Gail Burgess of Charleston, Deborah Dunham of E. Corinth, Jeff Cookson of Bangor, Brian Cookson of Damariscotta, Scott Cookson of Guilford; a brother, Stewart Judkins of New York; three sisters, Winnie Fanjoy of Dexter, Arlene Keddrell of Texas, Verna Cunningham of Conn.; twenty one grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call 6-8 PM Sunday July 9, 2000 at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday, July 10, 2000 at the funeral home, with Rev. David McLeish officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn cemetery in Guilford.
