ANDREW W. NADEAU
HARMONY, Andrew W. Nadeau, 68, died August 9, 2000 at a Portland hospital. He was born August 26, 1931 in Wellington, son of Henry and Alsadie (Huff) Nadeau. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Deputy in the Maine State Grange, the treasurer of the Mainstream Grange in Harmony and the Overseer of Wellington Grange. He was chairman of the Harmony Planning Board. He was the Service Officer in the Stott Flanders American Legion Post #165 in Sangerville. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate for 26 years, Marie (Robinson) Nadeau of Harmony; two sisters, Annie Rooks of Wellington and Ella and Travis Blevins of Florida; a brother, Phillip and his wife Norma Nadeau of Wellington; a half sister, Rose Andrzejewski of Hartland; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 7-9 PM Friday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday at the Dexter United Methodist Church with Rev. Cecil Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Libby cemetery in Harmony.

ELLEN F. KEENE
MONSON, Ellen F. Keene, 85, died August 13, 2000 at a Dexter health care facility. She was born April 4, 1915 in Kennebunk, daughter of William and Florence (Brown) Eaton. She worked for Kessler Shoe Co. in Kennebunk before moving to Monson where she worked for Moosehead Manufacturing Co. She later moved to Willimantic, Connecticut, where she for worked for most of her career as a Group Leader for Traveler’s Insurance Company. After her retirement, Ellen returned to Monson to live.

She was predeceased by her husband, Freemond D. Keene. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Nichols of Gardiner.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Riverside cemetery in Willimantic, Maine with Rev. Mark Arbisi officiating.

GEORGE W. BLAKE
COOPERS MILLS, George W. Blake, 96, died Aug. 17, 2000 a Coopers Mills nursing home.

Graveside services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday at the East cemetery in Skowhegan.

ANDREW R. SANBORN, SR.
PLYMOUTH – Andrew R. Sanborn, Sr., 57, exchanged this world for a better place on August 17, 2000. He fought the good fight and finished his course after a long bout with cancer. He was born May 23, 1943 at Hartland the son of Algernon and Flora (Ashe) Sanborn. He was a graduate of Husson College in Bangor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie (Adair) Sanborn of Plymouth; three children, sons, Rob Sanborn of Newport, and Corey Sanborn of Tulsa, Oklahoma, one daughter, Bethany Sanborn Thrift of Skiatook, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Robbie Sanborn, Leiha Sanborn, Aleisha Sanborn all of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Hannah Thrift of Skiatook, Oklahoma; his only sister, Marie Towne of Newport; one very special aunt, Rowena Field of Detroit; his only nephew, Terry Towne of Spanish Fort, Alabama, and several cousins. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Private visitation will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Monday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport. Burial will be in the family lot, Detroit Village Cemetery.

NEAL W. ANDREWS
NEWPORT – Neal W. Andrews, 58, died unexpectedly August 18, 2000 at a Belfast hospital. He was born October 6, 1941 at Dover-Foxcroft the son of Neal and Grace (Burlock) Andrews, Sr. He graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1959. On November 29, 1963, he married the former Brenda Fellows. Neal had retired from General Electric in Pittsfield. He enjoyed collecting and working on antique and classic cars. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and family, and was a fan of 50’s and 60’s music.

In addition to his wife of Newport, he is survived by a son Todd Andrews of Woodstock, NY, a daughter, Tammy McFall of Winter Haven, FL, 3 brothers, Gerald and his wife Judy Andrews of N. Chelmsford, MA, Roger and wife Joelyn Andrews of Provo, Utah, Alton and wife Roxanne of Wiscasset; 3 sisters, Roberta and husband Paul Reynolds of Etna, Nellie Rudder of San Diego, CA, Carol and her husband Darrell Seamans of Dexter; 2 grandsons, Arnold and Brian; many nieces and nephews. He will also be fondly remembered by many dear friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his brothers, Francis, Roland, and Richard.

Friends may call 6-8 P.M. Monday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Tuesday, August 22nd. Burial will be in North Newport Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 346, Augusta, ME 04330. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

GLENNYS A. STEVENS
ABBOT, Glennys A. Stevens, 75, died August 20, 2000 at a Bangor hospital. She was born Dec. 22, 1924 in Abbot, daughter of Eugene and Alice (True) Trefethen.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Bruce and Linda Stevens of Guilford; a brother and his wife, Merlin and Lois Trefethen of Conn.; three sisters, Thelma Butler of Dover-Foxcroft, Joyce and her husband Donald Knowlton of Blanchard and Norma and her husband Sterling Hersey of Blanchard; a sister-in-law Bernice Trefethen of Parkman; two grandchildren, Ashley and Brock Stevens; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Linwood Stevens; two brothers, Glen Trefethen and Melvin “Bud” Trefethen.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. David McLeish officiating. Burial will be in the Village cemetery in Abbot. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Ronald McDonald House of Bangor, 654 State St., Bangor, ME 04401.

RALPH FOSS TUCKER
NEWPORT – Ralph Foss Tucker, 69, died August 22, 2000 at his Elm Street residence. He was born April 9, 1931 at Milbridge the son of Howard and Beatrice (Hinckley) Tucker. He attended Newport schools and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in England and the Pacific, where he flew 38 combat missions over Korea as a tail gunner. He was honorably discharged from the U. S. Air Force with the rank of Staff Sergeant. On April 10, 1953, he married Virginia G. Salisbury of Hartland. Ralph was employed for a time at H. P. Hood and Sons in Newport. In the late 1950’s, he and his wife operated the Flamingo Drive-In Restaurant in Newport. In 1959, he also started serving as a substitute RFD mail carrier, and in the early 1960’s, he and his wife opened and operated Tucker’s Steak House in Newport. He was a foreman at Irving Tanning Company in Hartland for 13 years. He then worked for a time at Dexter Shoe Company in Dexter, and later was a foreman at Dexter Shoe Company in Newport. After retiring, Ralph wanted to continue to be active in the community. He volunteered daily at the Newport Community Food Bank, pickingup food at the local grocery store in Newport, and assisted in loading and unloading the food that was served to the needy in his community. On August 15, 2000, he was presented a plaque in appreciation of his dedication and hours of service to the Newport Community Food Bank. Ralph was a member of Barrows-Skidgel Post 105 American Legion in Newport, the Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor, the Tri-County Shrine Club, Stevens Royal Arch Chapter #28 Masons, and Meridian Splendor Lodge #49 Masons of Newport, as well as the St. Omer Commandery #12. Ralph was a past president of the Newport Kiwanis Club, and was also a Boy Scout leader in Newport for several years.

In addition to his wife of Newport, he is survived by a daughter, Cathy Jo Elliott and husband, Lewis of Hartland; a son Randy H. Tucker and fiancee April Cooley of Hartland; a sister, Babette Rediker and husband, Gaynol of Gardiner; a brother, Robert Tucker and wife Carlene of Raymond, MS; grandchildren, Gretchen Jo Elliott, Meranda Tucker, Anthony Tucker and Adrienne Tucker; and a special uncle, Clarence Tucker of Cherryfield. He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy E. (Tucker) Davis Brown, and a grandson, Jared T. Elliott.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Thursday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Friday with Pastor AlH. Worden, and the Rev. Dr. Henry G. FLORENCE B. LEIGHTON
DEXTER—Florence B. Leighton, 92, wife of the late Clifford F. “Jim” Leighton, died August 23, 2000 at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born August 22, 1908 at Dexter the daughter of Charles Leslie and Jennie Augusta (Kenney) Browne. She attended schools at Dexter and Philadelphia, PA and also two semesters at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. She was married at Elkton, MD on January 26, 1929.In September 1931, she and her husband returned to Dexter. She worked at the town office in Dexter from 1932 to July 1942 as bookkeeper and deputy town clerk. One July 5, 1942 she went to work at the FayScott Corp until August 24, 1973, retiring as foreign sales manager. In June 1976, she started in as site manager for the Eastern Agency on Aging, managing the Meals for ME program in Dexter until 1994.Also, from 1974 to 1994, she was supervisor of volunteers for the Retired Seniors Volunteer program. Florence was a faithful communicant of the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, acting as treasurer for 25 years and president of the Women’s Guild for 22 years. She had been the last living member of the original Episcopal Church of the Messiah on Spring Street in Dexter. She was president of the Dexter High School Alumni Association in 1978. Her faithful fraternal orders were as follows:Past Grand Chief and Past Supreme Representative of the Order of Pythian Sisters; Past Chief holding various offices in Chiquita Temple No.9 of Abbot Village; Past President of the Past Chiefs Association and member of the Pythian Home Association. As a Rebekah and member of the Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge No. 18, she was Past Noble Grand, District Deputy President and member of the Past Noble Grands Club of Cleora Rebekahs of Corinna. She had the high honor of receiving the Decoration of Chivalry. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Cleora Rebekah Lodge of Corinna due to the consolidation of the two lodges. She was a member of the Mayflower Society of Maine and the Priscilla Mullins Alden Colony of Bangor. Her grandfather, eight times removed, came to this country on the Mayflower from England. She was a member of the South Sangerville Grange No. 335, a former member of the Dexter Literary Club, and past president of the Golden Age Club. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Dexter Public Health Association and the Dexter Historical Society.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth B. Street of Princess Anne, MD; also several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Nathalie B. Nuite and Phyllis B. Brennamen. She will be lovingly remembered by the children in her life, especially Jacquelyn McKenney and her sister, Marilyn Halle, as well as many dear friends, including Judy Merck.

Friends may call 1– 5 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2000 that the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A Requiem Mass will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, August 27th, at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Dover-Foxcroft with the Revs. Kevin Holsapple and Janet McAuley co-officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery,Dexter.

PETER E. DYER
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Peter E. Dyer, 91, husband Of Stella (Cowett) Dyer, died Aug. 24, 2000, at a Bangor Hospital. He was born May 11, 1909, in Medford, N.B., the Son Of John H. And Olive (Albert) Dyer. Mr. Dyer Had worked the woods and at area farms for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Stella of Dover-Foxcroft; three daughters, Olive Ann Ogalsbee of Tunas, Mo., Ruth Kirby Of Dover-Foxcroft, Gloria Mcgill Of Dover-Foxcroft; A Son-In-Law, William Kirby Of Dover-Foxcroft; two Brothers, Victor Dyer Of Hudson, Mass., George Dyer Of Dover-Foxcroft; Three Sisters, Mildred Roach Of Florida, Jenny Smith Of Florida, Madeline Decato Of New Hampshire; 12 Grandchildren, Tony Mcgill, Tracie Mcgill, Julie Campbell, Daniel Campbell, Laurie Cook, Tina Callahan, Kristy Glavin, Tricia Kirby, Linus Ogalsbee, Philip Ogalsbee Jr., Tammy Ogalsbee, Gloria Jean Ogalsbee; 13 Great-Grandchildren, Many Nieces And Nephews.

Friends Are Invited To Call 6-8 P.M. Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, At The Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated 8:30 A.M. Saturday, Aug. 26, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Dover-Foxcroft, with Fr. James Robichaud.

GLENNA V. CARMICHAEL
ST. ALBANS, Glenna V. Carmichael, 80, died August 26, 2000, at her home in St. Albans. She was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Wade, Maine, daughter of Allen and Celia (Day) Richardson. She was a member of the St. Albans Union Church.

She is survived by five sons, Lewis of Palmyra, Miles, Gary, Ira and Edwin all of St. Albans; four daughters, Ora Larrabee of Dover-Foxcroft, Bethel Litchfield of Madison, Indiana, Brenda Bailey and Teresa Carmichael both of St. Albans; two brothers, Elwyn Richardson of Castle Hill and Isaac Richardson of Ft. Leavonworth, Kansas; four sisters, Pauline Beaulieu of Mapleton, Mary Baker of Washburn, Lela Kelly of Hartwell, Georgia and Ethel Doody of Vero Beach, Florida; 26 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and a special friend, Lisa Howard. She was predeceased by her husband Harold A. Carmichael and three sons, Walter, Joseph and Everett.

Friends may call 6-8 PM Tuesday August 29, 2000 at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main St., Newport. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday at the funeral home August 30, 2000 with Pastor Jamie Cahill officiating.Burial will be in the St. Albans Village Cemetery.

GLORIA E. GOULD
GUILFORD, Gloria E. Gould, 79, died Sept. 9, 2000 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born Oct. 4, 1920, in Sangerville, daughter of Rudolph and Gertrude (Leeman) Clukey. She worked for 27 years for Pride Manufacturing Co. in Guilford. She is survived by her husband, Frank M. Gould Jr. of Guilford; two sons, Leonard Gould of Beverly, Mass. and Donald Gould of Danvers, Mass.; a daughter, Marjorie Reynolds of Delight, Arkansas; five grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela Armstrong. At her request there will be no public services. Burial will be in the Sangerville Village Cemetery. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

BENJAMIN R. "JOCK" TILTON III
Benjamin R. "Jock" Tilton III, 58, the husband of Marilyn Fay (Wells) Tilton, died Sept. 6, 2000 at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born June 30, 1942 in Corinth, the son of Benjamin and Edith (McGray) Tilton II. He was a graduate of East Corinth Academy, class of 1960, had served in the Air National Guard and was a member of the Charleston Pentecostal Church. Ben, known as "Jock", devoted his life to the Tilton family business located at the family homestead on Puddledock Road. At a young age, "Jock" began working beside his father and mother learning to care for the land and animals. He was taught the business of buying and selling cattle, horses, and farm machinery, Working with his family, "Jock" developed the business into a popular livestock auction for farmers in the surrounding areas. In recent years, his interest expanded to the development of Central Maine Auto Auction in Brewer. "Jock" enjoyed competing in area horse shows in his youth, as well as competition in youth softball leagues. For many years, "Jock" donated his time to charitable organizations, including the Kidney Foundation of Maine and the Great Chef's Night. He supported the May Day Ride to benefit Operation Liftoff of Maine. He used his auctioneering talents to support the 4-H Foundation Baby Beef Auction at the Bangor State Fair. In his brave fight to overcome a kidney disease, "Jock" developed great affection for the staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Special thanks to Dr. Richard Patch and the dialysis unit at EMMC. "Jock" had many years of enjoyment with his Australlan shepherds, Austin and Ashley. Love of family and faith in God was the hallmark of "Jocks" life.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother, both of Corinth, are two sons, Kevin and his wife, Cathy of Charleston and Scott and his wife, Melanie of Bangor; a brother, Bruce and his wife, Bonnie of Corinth; three sisters, Sandra McGonagle and her husband, John of Gilford, N.H., Shelia Stephenson and her husband, Tom of Atkinson and Sherry Lucia and her husband, Ed of Chester, N.H.; a sister-in-law, Julie of Lubec, the wife of Shardy Tilton who died May 6, 2000; eight grandchildren, Meagan Tilton, Emily Tilton, Elise Tilton, Caid Dodge, Noah Tilton, Meganne Jordan, Eli Wheeler and Kiley Eckstein; his step children, Shannon and Dawn Eckstein, and Shawna and Selden Wheeler; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, former step children and step grandchildren, "Jock" was predeceased by his father in 1972.

Friends called from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Charleston Pentecostal Church where funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Ronald E. Libby and Pastor Matthew Ward officiating. Burial was held in the Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a time of fellowship and refreshment at the Charleston Pentecostal Church Fellowship Hall following the committal. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Souis Harbor, P.O. Box 155, Charleston, ME 04422 or The National Kidney Foundation of Maine, 630 Congress St., P.O. LESTER CHARLES MASON
NEWPORT - Lester Charles Mason, 83, died September 13, 2000 at the home of his son, Dr. Peter Mason, in Bath. He was born September 14, 1916 at McCammon, Idaho, the son of Charles and Gertrude (Hanson) Mason. He graduated from N. H. Fay High School, Class of 1936. Lester was a welder at Electric Boat Company in Connecticut from 1940 to 1945. He married Vivian (Mitchell) Sigrist on April 2, 1941. After they moved to Newport, he owned and operated Mason's Welding Shop for 50 years. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, and liked to give produce to friends and neighbors.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a son, Dr. Peter C. Mason and wife Louise of Bath; a step-son, Fredric Sigrist and wife Ruth of Londonderry, NH; 2 brothers, Webber Mason of Dexter and Glen Mason of Skowhegan; 2 sisters-in-law, Secha Mason of Skowhegan and Estelle Mason of Dexter; 4 grandchildren, Peter A. Mason, Russell Sigrist, Richard Sigrist, and Joel Sigrist; 2 great grandchildren, Aaron and Ashley Sigrist; many nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Linda McSweeney of Saugus, MA. He was predeceased by a brother Dewane.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, September 16th, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Michael Stephenson, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Friends may call from 1 P.M. Saturday until the time of service. Burial will be in Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. PHILIP R. MATTEI, SR.
NEWPORT & CARRABASSETT VALLEY—Philip R. Mattei, Sr., CRNA, 53, died unexpectedly September 16, 2000 at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. He was born March 22, 1947 at Worcester, MA the son of Rocco and Rosemary (Stafford) Mattei. He graduated from St. Peter’s Central Catholic High School, Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, and Mercy Hospital School of Anesthesia in Springfield, MA. He moved with his family to Maine in the fall of 1978 and worked at hospitals in Calais, Rumford, Millinocket, and for the past 10 years at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, which was his favorite. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his involvement with Labrador Retriever AKC hunt test programs throughout New England.

He is survived by his parents of Cherry Valley, MA; his wife of 32 years, Jane (Sullivan) Mattei of Newport and Carrabassett Valley; 2 sons, Philip Mattei, Jr. of Carrabassett Valley and Jonathan Mattei of Bangor; 2 daughters, Kristine Dingley of Charlton, MA and Maura Mattei of Old Town; 3 brothers, William Mattei of Rochdale, MA, Richard Mattei and Brian Mattei,both of Leicester, MA; a sister, Lisa Atwood of Norwich, VT; 3 grandchildren, Kaitlyn-Jade Dingley, Nickalaus Dingley and Barret Cote.
