CHARLOTTE HELEN (HALEY) LANDER
CAMBRIDGE, On Dec.25, 2000 Mom, Charlotte, went on to heaven joining Dad, Maurice Lander. Ours had been a good life together as a family and we have many great memories to reflect upon in the coming years until we too go to be with them. Charlotte was born on December 24,1912, the perfect Christmas present, to George and Helen Haley of Guilford Maine. She was privileged to have 3 loving brothers; George, Manley and Weldon and 2 wonderful sisters; Elizabeth and Dorothy. After graduating from Guilford High, Charlotte went on to Farmington "normal school" and two years later became a teacher. Her first teaching job was at the Manter School in Parkman. It was just one of many one room schools where she would shovel snow, build fires, fill the water urn, sweep and oil the floors, wind the clock, dust the erasers, supervise recess, patch up cuts and bruises, care for the outhouses, and teach all subjects including art and music to 25-30 children in 6 grades.

On June 25, 1936, Charlotte and Maurice Lander were married in the house that became their family home for 60 years. She and Maurice raised three sons; Galen, Duane and Philip in the town of Cambridge. All three survive her. Mom was a great mother. She cooked, sewed, transported, killed the chickens and picked the feathers, boiled down sap, cared for us and taught school at the same time. Her love for us and her love for education pushed us all on to college. She continued her own education, graduating with Galen, from the University of Maine in 1961 with a degree in Elementary Education. During the years between graduation and her going to be with her Lord Jesus, her sons gave her 9 wonderful grandchildren. born to Galen and Deanna; Kelly, Marcia, Karen and Jeffrey, to Duane; Jennifer, Jonathan and Jason, to Philip and Marilyn; Scott and Joshua. She has 5 great-grandchildren; Laura, Kahla, Cole, Jack and Charlotte. Charlotte loved having the Haley and Lander families together on holidays and always prepared great meals with more than anyone could eat. She devoted her life to loving and caring for family and friends even in her last days, and will be greatly missed by all. Heaven will be blessed by her arrival and we praise God because of his great plan for mankind we will see her again. Charlotte was a member of the Eastern Star, Cambridge Grange, and Cambridge Baptist Church. In recent years, she especially enjoyed her friends at Delta Kappa Gamma. In her last two years she had many loving care givers, all were loving and kind to her as she had been to others. We thank all of them including the hospital, nursing home and Community Health and Counseling staff in Greenville, Dover, and Bangor. We also greatly appreciate the private care givers who came to Duane's home where she enjoyed spending her last year.

If you wish to make a donation in Charlotte's memory, please give to either the C.A. Dean Nursing Home Fund, P.O. Box 1129, Greenville, ME 04441 marked in memory of Maurice and Charlotte Lander or the Gideon's International organization. The Gideons, using your gifts, will give Bibles in her memory. Forms and envelopes for giving Bibles will be available at the funeral home. Visiting hours will be 6pm to 8pm on Friday, December 29 at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home in Guilford.
