INEZ BELL BEMIS
HARMONY, Inez Bell Bemis, 95, died August 19, 2001, at her home in Harmony. She was born July 31, 1906, in Parkman, daughter of Harry C. and Myrtie B. (Clement) Packard. She was predeceased by her husband, Myron Bemis. She enjoyed gardening and raised African Violets for many years. Inez also enjoyed handwork especially knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by a brother, Eldon Packard of Parkman; a brother-in-law, Larry Dube of Dexter; 2 grandsons; Raymond Bemis and his wife Audrey of Remsen, New York and Stanley Bemis and his Rhonda of Harmony; three great grandsons, Jason, Christopher and Carey; nieces and nephews including a special niece Shirley Nadeau; special neighbors, Forrest and Charlene Cooley.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford, with a time for visitation from 1-2 PM. Burial will be in Cambridge Memorial Garden cemetery in Cambridge.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Harmony Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 208, Harmony, ME 04942.

PHILIXINA AMANDA WOODARD
DEXTER, Philixina Amanda Woodard, 86, died August 21, 2001, at a Dexter nursing home, after a long period of failing health. She was born September 21, 1914, in Dexter, daughter of Alfred M. and Mary (Obey) Pooler. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Avon B. Woodard and a special granddaughter, Kathy. She was a life long resident of Dexter. She loved the outdoor and enjoyed the beauty of nature. She also owned a camp in Garland and spent much time there in her later years. She also enjoyed spending time with her 9 grandchildren. Philixine was an avid reader all of her life. She became a born again Christian at the age of 85.

She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Field and a son, Avon T. Woodard and his wife, Beryl all of Dexter; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Timothy Pooler and two sisters, Florida Tibbetts and Rosalie Hollis.

Friends may call Fri 6-8 PM at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held Sat at 1PM at the funeral home with Pastor Edward Jaworski officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter.

Those who wish may make donations to the Pleasant Street Christian Church, 35 St. Albans Rd., Corinna, ME 04928.

JOHN R. ARNO
DEXTER, John R. Arno, 88, husband of Imogene V. Arno, died August 27, 2001 at his home on the Cambridge Road in Dexter. He was born November 6, 1912, in Dexter, the son of John H. and Inez (Bridge) Arno. After graduating from N.H. Fay High School in Dexter, in June of 1932, he attended the University of Maine at Orono, graduating in 1936 with a B.S. in Agronomy. In 1938 he received a Masters Degree in Soils. He was employed as a soil scientist by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service. He worked in Maryland, New York and Maine until his retirement in 1976.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Imogene (Vigue) Arno of Dexter; his children, John G. and Mary Arno; his granddaughters, Kimberly Biagetti and Renee Doble; his great granddaughters, Alison and Madeline Doble.

Graveside services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday August 29, 2001, at the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter with Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

MYRTLE G. HALL
DEXTER, Myrtle G. Hall, 97, died August 30, 2001 at a Dexter health care facility. She was born Sept. 2, 1903, in Dexter, daughter of Herbert and Mabel (Mason) Luce. She graduated from N.H. Fay High School class of 1922. She was employed for 14 years as a dental hygienist for Dr. Ralph Badger in Dexter. Myrtle was a former member of the Wassookeag Chapter OES, and was a member of the First Universalist Church of Dexter. She was predeceased by her husband, Guy H. Hall in 1950.

She is survived by a son, Lawrence "Butch" Hall of Dexter; a brother and his wife, Dana & Shirley Luce of Dexter; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At her request, the family is planning a graveside service, which will be held at 11 AM Thursday Sept. 6, 2001 at the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter with Rev. Lois Merrifield officiating. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations to the Activities Fund, c/o Dexter Health Care Facility, Park St., Dexter, ME 04930. Arrangements by the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

NELLIE EASTMAN
GUILFORD, Nellie Eastman, 84, died August 31, 2001 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born December 17, 1916 in Gouldsboro, daughter of Robert and Ethel (Stanley) Cowperthwaite. She was married to Everett Eastman who predeceased her in 1979. She enjoyed raising her children and later, worked as a cook for SAD #4 in Guilford.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Robert and Barbara Eastman of Sedgwick and Ralph and Yasuko Eastman of Guilford; a daughter and her husband Ev and Al Bowley of Guilford; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wed. 11AM at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home 21 Oak St., Guilford with Pastor Ray Beless officiating.

A time for visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in Lawn cemetery in Guilford. Those who wish may make donations to the Abbot Evangelical Church Food Cupboard, P.O. Box 262, Abbot, ME 04406.

LAWRENCE JOSEPH VIGUE
SCARBOROUGH AND DEXTER, Lawrence Joseph Vigue, 74, died Saturday, September 1, 2001 at Pine Point Nursing Center following a short illness. He was born in Dexter, February 17, 1927, the son of Rudolph and Antoinette (LaRochelle) Vigue. He was educated in the Dexter school system. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War, as a member of the US Navy. In 1948, he married Beverly Rita Clukey. He and his wife had just moved to Saco recently as full time residents after wintering in Spring Hill, Florida for 24 years. Lawrence joined the Maine State Police in 1955 and patrolled the Bangor-Dexter, Newport area upon graduating from the Maine State Police Academy. He was then assigned to Troop D in Thomaston, patrolling the Bath-Brunswick area. In 1964, he was assigned to Troop C in the Skowhegan area. Shortly after that, he became a detective with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and in 1970 was promoted to sergeant. He was trained in arson and fire investigation at Rutgers University and was a member of the New England Association Fire Marshals. At Harvard Medical School, he was trained in homicide investigation, and he was further educated in narcotics and organized crime through the New England State Police Association. He was chosen to attend The Command Institute through the New England Institute of Law Enforcement Management at Babson College. After his retirement from the Maine State Police in 1975, he was a security instructor at CMVTI. He was Past-President of the Maine State Police Retirees Association, a member of the Farmington Elks Lodge #2430, former member of the St. Joan of Ark Council of the Knights of Columbus #11317 in Spring Hill, Florida. He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church in Saco.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years; two daughters and their husbands, Diane and Dale Carstens of Saco and Kathy and Don Arsenault of Lewiston; four grandsons, Jeffrey and Michael Carstens of Saco, and Jason and Christopher Gousse of Lewiston.

Friends may call Wednesday 6-8 PM at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 AM Thursday at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter with Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine State Trooper's Association, P.O. Box 2741, Augusta, ME 04330.

NEWTON C. HATHORN.
DEXTER & SANGERVILLE Newton Clarence Hathorn, 90, died September 1, 2001 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born February 22, 1911 at Dover the son of Edgar and Hattie (Fogg) Hathorn. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, and was employed for 21 years at Fayscott in Dexter, retiring in 1973.

He is survived by a son George Stephen Hathorn of Bucksport; 2 daughters, Joyce Ellis and husband Alan of Sangerville, and Faye Clements of Dexter; his only grandson, Stephen John Hathorn; 5 stepchildren, Robert and wife Charlotte Bingham of Winterport, Milton and wife Dolores Bingham of Dexter, and Edward Bingham of Burnham, Eva Ruth LeDuc of Bangor, Goldie Panzini and friend Dale Perigo of Parkman; 39 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and ephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle(Hill) Hathorn, brothers, John, Linwood, and Malcolm, and a sister Rowena.

Graveside committal services will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, September 8th, at West Garland cemetery with the Rev. David Kelly officiating. In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to the Dexter Health Care Patient Activity Fund, 64 Park Street, Dexter, ME 04930.

SHARON A. BISHOP
CORINNA , Sharon A. Bishop, 42, died Sept. 2, 2001 in Bangor at a hospice home. She was born Dec. 15, 1958, in Calais, daughter of Frederick and Arlene (McDonald) Cole. She attended Calais schools and graduated from the University of Maine at Machias. For the past 20 years she taught school at the Dexter Middle School. She coached cheer leading and loved the outdoors, especially kayaking. She was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter.

She is survived by her husband, Neil Bishop, a daughter, Jessica Bonneau and a son, Michael Bonneau all of Corinna; her mother, Arlene Cole of Calais; two brothers, Larry Cole of Germantown, Tenn. and David Cole of Calais; a sister, Nancy Haddock of Calais; several nieces and nephews; special friends and Godparents of Jessica and Michael, Peter and Karen Murray of Dexter.

Friends may call Friday 6-8 PM at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. In lieu of flowers her wish was that donations be sent to a scholarship fund at Dexter Regional High School for graduates going into teaching.

PHILLIP ERWIN WHITE, JR.
CORINNA , Phillip Erwin White, Sr., 66, died Sept. 3, 2001 at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born Dec. 7, 1934, in Milo, son of Stanley and Avis (Hoskins) White, Sr. After a stint in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, he worked in the woods, in Real Estate and was well known for the area homes that he built. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Patricia (Roberts) White of Corinna; two sons, Phillip E. White Jr and his wife, Karen of Somerset, Mass. and Daniel T. White of Plymouth; a daughter, Teresa M. White of Newport; a brother, Stanley White Jr. and his wife Marion of Dexter; two sisters, Clara Lindsay of Dexter and Nancy Provost of Garland; five grandchildren, a step granddaughter, and a great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marion Murray.

A Memorial service will be held 2 PM Sat. at the First Universalist Church of Dexter with the Rev. Dr. Alec Craig officiating. Burial will be in the Corinna Center cemetery in Corinna. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Polycystic Kidney Research Foundation, 4901 Main St., Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64112-2634.

JOHN E. NORMANDIE
DEXTER, John E. Normandie, 70, of Dexter, formerly of Hollis, New Hampshire, died Sept. 9, 2001 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital after a short illness. He was born April 9, 1931, in Lowell, Mass. son of John and Mabel (Collins) Normandie. He graduated from Lowell High School and the Belvoir School of Engineering. He served in the US Air force during the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pauline (DuBois) Normandie of Dexter; his children, Jill Blakeman, Dr. Cynthia Normandie, Lisa Cross and Kristi Normandie-Krok. He was predeceased by a son, Johnny III in 1966.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Brittany, Danny and Tommy Blakeman, Johnny and Erica Cross, Kevin Breault and Jason Krok; his sisters, Arlene Leech, Mildred Blackstock and Betty Tarbox. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Thurs. Sept. 13 2001, at St. Louis De Gonzague cemetery in Nashua, New Hampshire.

HEIDI RENEE NELSON
CORINNA Heidi Renee Nelson, 26, died September 11, 2001 as the result of an automobile accident on I-95. She was born December 29, 1974 at Bangor the daughter of Dennis D. and Julie E. (Stevens) Nelson. She graduated from Nokomis Regional High, Class of 1993, where she actively participated in the various bands, basketball, softball and the Key Club. She attended the University of Maine at Farmington and, later, Eastern Maine Technical College. She was employed as a wholesaler at the Goodwrench Pro Shop in Bangor.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, and her dog Abby, are a maternal grandmother, Zelma Stevens of Monson; paternal grandfather, Spurgeon Nelson of Dexter; aunts and uncles, Charles and Gail Stevens of Newport, Robert and Susan Stevens of Pittstown, NJ, Kent Stevens of Monson, Rodney and Roberta Scott of Garland, Rebecca Pitcher of Corinna; many cousins and special girl friends; great aunts and uncles; and a special friend, Jeff Norris and his son Ian of Stetson.

Friends may call from 7- 9 P.M. Thursday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Friday, September 14th at the Corinna United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terrence McKinley officiating. Burial will be in Morses Corner Cemetery, Corinna. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to American Diabetes Association, 10 Bangor Street, Suite F, Augusta, ME 04338-2208, or may be left at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home in Newport.

STANLEY M. MEHOLIK JR
PARKMAN, Stanley M. Meholik, Sr. 81, died Sept. 16, 2001 at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. He was born July 6, 1920 in Seymour, Conn., the son of Michael and Agnes (Deren) Meholik. He served in the US Army with the 2nd Battalion 391st Infantry Regiment in Japan during WWII and was a member of the Connor-Trafton American Legion Post #119 in Guilford. He and his wife owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Ansonia, Conn. for nine years. He worked for the New Heaven Copper Mill, Seymour Manufacturing in Conn. and after moving to Maine he worked for Guilford Industries.

He is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Anna (Russell) Meholik of Dover-Foxcroft; a son, Stanley M. Meholik Jr. and his wife, Gloria of Seymour, Conn.; a daughter and her husband, Carolanne and Joe Dionne of Abbot; 3 grandsons, Stanley M. Meholik III and his wife Lynn of Southbury, Conn., Michael Meholik and his wife Pam of Naugatuck, Conn. And John H. Meholik of Seymour; three granddaughters, Bernadette Preble of Dexter, Marie Rhodes of Georgia and Vicky Gould of Parkman; 10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson-in-law, Eugene Gould and a great granddaughter Christina Preble.

Friends may call 6-8 PM Thursday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday Sept. 21, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Dover-Foxcroft, with Rev. James Robichaud officiating. Burial will be in the Pingree Center cemetery in Parkman. Those who wish may make donations to St. Thomas Catholic Church, 50 High St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.

RANDY J. MAYHEW
DEXTER Randy J. Mayhew, 44, died September 16, 2001 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital following a long illness. He was born September 29, 1956 at Dexter the son of Joseph and Viola (Johnson) Mayhew. He graduated from Dexter Regional High School, Class of 1975. He will be remembered by his class as an avid wrestler. He enjoyed attending car shows with his 1969 Mustang Mach 1 and won many awards. He was employed by R.C. Whitney and Sons, and retired from Webber Oil Company due to failing health. Randy was well liked and known for his joking. Randy and his dog Ebony shared an exceptional devotion.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother Douglas and his wife Linda Mayhew of Corinna; 3 sisters, Nancy and husband Randy Webber, Judy and husband Roger Wyman, all of Dexter, a twin sister Connie and her husband John Scales of Stark, NH; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; 2 special friends who assisted in his care, Lisa Nickerson and Rhonda Noschese.

Private family visitation will be held Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A graveside committal service for family and close friends will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rural Grove Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft, with the Rev. Barry Buzzell officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Health & Counseling Service, 14 Summer Street, Dover-Foxcroft 04426; or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 8730, Portland 04104.
