LLOYD M. STONE
EXETER Lloyd M. Stone, 79, died unexpectedly November 11, 2001 at his residence. He was born July 25, 1922 at Dexter the son of John and Fay (Reed) Stone. He served in the U. S. Air Force and also in the U. S. Army during World War II, and the Korean Conflict, retiring in 1962.

He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Bonnie Stone of Exeter; a son, Lloyd E. Stone and his wife Belinda of Dexter; a step-son, Lee Hustus and his friend Nicole Page of Exeter; 3 grandchildren, Melinda M. Stone, Lloyd S. Stone, and Eric E. Stone, all of Dexter; one brother Linwood and his wife Frances of Dixmont; several nieces and nephews.

Private visitation will be held at the convenience of the family. A graveside committal service will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, November 17th, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Exeter Road, Corinna.

ROGER C. MELIA
PARKMAN, Roger C. Melia, 52, died November 12, 2001, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born January 17, 1949 in Greenville, son of George and Virginia (Dean) Melia. He has worked for several of the local industries including Hardwood Products Co. in Guilford where he was working until the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Burnell) Melia of Parkman; 2 sons, Craig Melia of Parkman, and Jamie and his wife, BJ Melia of Corinna; a daughter, Terese and her husband, Dan Hofmann of Somersworth, NH; a stepdaughter, Geraldine Snide of Peru, NY; stepson, Billy Snide of Plattsburg, NY; 3 brothers, Malcolm Melia of Monson, Jerald Melia of Guilford and Alan Melia of Monson; a sister, Dottie Maheux of Westbrook; 4 grandchildren, Austin & Tyson Chambers, Chelcee Melia and Ben Hofmann; several nieces and nephews.

A time of remembrance will be held at Roger's home, 1205 State Highway 150 in Parkman on Saturday November 17, 2001, from 2-4 pm. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the American Heart Assn., Box 346, Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

WAYNE F. WILLIAMS
GUILFORD, Wayne F. Williams, 62, died November 13, 2001 at a Boston hospital following a long illness. He was born April 7, 1939, in Gouldsboro, son of Vincent and Doris (Francis) Williams. Wayne was self-employed as a truck driver for most of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Dody (Goode) Williams of Guilford; his mother of Guilford; five sons, Terry and Susan of Sangerville, Ron and Janna of Nevada, Chuck and Priscilla of Etna, Mike and Debbie of Costigan and Willie and Carla of Parkman; 12 grandchildren, Jason, Daniel, Douglass, Matthew, Brian, Erica, Aaron, Tyler, Andrea, Ashley, Alex, and Tiffany and a great granddaughter, Olivia; a sister, Leona Edmonds of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday November 17, 2001, at 1 pm, at the Lawn cemetery in Guilford. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to, Air Lifeline, 5775 Wayzata Blvd, Suite 700 Minneapolis, MN, 55416, 877-727-7728. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

LEWIS L. McLEOD
WINTERPORT and DOVER-FOXCROFT - Lewis L. McLeod, 78, died Nov. 13, 2001, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Brownville Junction, Feb. 20, 1923, the son of Kenneth H. and Mabel B. (Stevenson) McLeod.He attended elementary school in Shirley and graduated from high school in Roseland, British Columbia, Canada. He also graduated from Beal College. Mac enlisted in the Edmonton Infantry Regiment First Division in 1940 and served in Scotland. He transferred to the Cavalry Regiment First Army Tank Brigade and served in North Africa, Italy, Dieppe and other European Campaigns during World War II. He was then detached to the British Commando Regiment for six months training. Mac served on several committees of the Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was active in community affairs in Winterport and served on the school board. He was a member of the American Legion VFW forty and eight, he was a Mason member of York Rite Bodies and past patron of the Eastern Star. Mac was an avid golfer, loved travel and fishing. He spent two winters in Mexico and several winters in Florida. He retired from the Bangor Daily News as credit manager with 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cora (Lewis) McLeod of Winterport; two sons, Nat B. McLeod of Winterport, William L. McLeod of Vermont; one grandson, Patrick L. McLeod of Vermont; two brothers, Kenneth E. McLeod of Fort Pierce, Fla., Harry A. McLeod of Otisfield; two sisters, Ruby King of Scarborough, Myrtle Ronney of Buckston, several nieces and nephews.

Private Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport. Those who wish to honor his memory may contribute to the Winterport Union Meeting House, P.O. Box 683, Winterport 04496. Arrangements by Foley Funeral Service, Bangor

MILDRED FRASZ
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Mildred Frasz of Dover-Foxcroft, died at home, Nov. 14, 2001, after a long illness. She was born in Chicago, the daughter of Stanley Cywinski and Casmira Murkowski. She had been a resident of Dover-Foxcroft since 1988. For many years, Mildred was a member of the Auxillary of St. Elizabeth's hospital in Chicago and was active in several Catholic church societies. As a Red Cross volunteer during World War II, she rolled bandages and prepared first-aid kits. Beginning with the polio epidemic in the 1950s, Mildred volunteered as a marching mother with the March of Dimes, then served as chairman of the Chicago March of Dimes and later as a board member.

Survivors are Casimir Frasz; loving husband, Dr. David Frasz; son, Dr. Lesley Fernow; daughter-in-law, grandchildren, Alexis, Dana and David Kephart; sisters-in-law, Loretta Cullerton of Las Vegas, Nev., Marie Frasz of Geneva, Ill. and Anne Frasz of Forest Grove, Ore., nieces and nephews.

A Mass of the Resurrection, followed by reception will be held 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Dover-Foxcroft. Family suggests flowers or a contribution to St. Thomas Aquinas Capital Campaign.

AVIS J. BREWER
BROWNVILLE JCT. - Avis J. Brewer, 77, wife of the late Donald M. Brewer, died Nov. 14, 2001, at her residence. She was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Bristol, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Harold N. Ida (Dingee) McDougall. She was a 35 year member of the Bernard Jones American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 92, and a member of the Brownville Jct. United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Norman and his wife, Marea of South Riding, Va., George and his wife, Suzy of Gorham, Jeffrey and his wife, Fran of Brownville Jct.; two daughters, Pamela and her husband, Alan Kirby of Derry, N.H., Joan and her husband, Ben Murray of Portland; brother, Ronald McDougall and his wife, Desta of Bristol, New Brunswick, Canada; five grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews. She will be remembered by special friends, Marc and Roz Zambrano, and Beverly Jamison.

Memorial services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with the Rev. Michelle St. Cyr officiating. Following services at the funeral home, a light luncheon will be held at the Brownville Jct. United Methodist Church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to, Community Health and Counseling, 14 Summer St., Dover-Foxcroft 04426, or to the Maine Children's Home, 34 Gilman St., Waterville 04901.

EDITH (DUFAULT) EVANS
NEWPORT-Edith M. (Dufault) Evans, 73, died November 16, 2001 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born February 28, 1928 at Newport the daughter of James and Elsie (Sheridan) Dufault. She was employed at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna, and from 1970 to 1990 at Bangor Mental Health Institute. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester on February 5, 2001.

She is survived by 2 sons, Neil and Kevin both of Newport; 6 daughters, Cheryl Evans of Cocoa, FL, Beatrice Bowman of Newport, Cynthia Kennedy of Hanesville, GA, Marilyn Ouellette of Ellsworth, Barbara Peirce of Apopka, FL and Andrea Heckel of Palmyra; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Monday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. A graveside service will be held Friday, November 23 at 12 noon at the Riverside Cemetery, Newport with Rev. Marriott Churchill officiating.

LAWRENCE A. PALMER
DIXMONT & DEDHAM, MASS. - Lawrence Allen Palmer, 63, died unexpectedly November 16, 2001 while on a hunting trip at the family hunting camp in Plymouth. He was born October 19, 1938 at Plymouth the son of George and Sybelle (Patten) Palmer. At the time of his death he owned and operated the Moss Hill Mobil Service Station in Roslindale, Mass.

He is survived by his wife, Gail (Urie) Palmer, and his mother, Sybelle E. Palmer, both of Dedham, Mass.; his children, Jason Palmer of Dedham, Mass., Kimberly Palmer and Ingrid Williams, both of Norton, Mass.; 3 grandchildren, Chandra Palmer, Colby Williams, and Tyler Williams; as well as an aunt, Olive Palmer of Newport.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Sunday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Monday, November 19th, with the Rev. Michael Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in the family lot, Simpson Corner Cemetery, Dixmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy, 205 Portland Street; 4th Floor, Boston, MA 02114.

ALBERT D. BOULEY
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Albert D. Bouley, 79, loving husband of Lillian (King) Bouley, died Nov. 16, 2001, in Bangor. He was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Fort Kent, the son of Daniel and Beatrice (Berube) Bouley.He served his country in World War II, and was a member of the Dover-Foxcroft VFW. He worked for the town of Dover-Foxcroft, and for Morton Avenue Elementary School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lillian; one son, George Bouley; two daughters, Sara Dyer and Beatrice Bouley, all of Dover-Foxcroft; eight grandchildren, two great-grand children, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters; and one son, Charles Bouley.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at the family lot in Dover Cemetery, with Fr. James Robichaud, officiating. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Pine State Cremation Service.

JOSEPH L. WORDEN
DEXTER Joseph L. Worden, 87, died November 17, 2001 at his Gould Avenue residence. He was born May 29, 1914, in Jefferson, Maine, the son of James and Agnes (Luke) Worden. When his father became ill, he left school for a term and took his father's job. He returned to N. H. Fay High School and graduated in 1935. He worked in New Jersey during the Depression until he returned to Dexter to care for his mother. For many years he worked as a machinist at Fay & Scott in Dexter. After retirement, he worked as a night watchman for Dexter Shoe and Guilford of Maine. He was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter and was a 65-year member of the Knight's of Columbus. He served the community in many ways including: plumbing inspector, Boy Scouts, the volunteer ambulance service, Dexter Fire Department and many summers at Camp Stonehaven, Dexter's Girl Scout Camp.

He is survived by two sons James Worden of Sangerville and Michael and his wife Susan Worden of Arlington, VA; three daughters Sharon and her husband Nelson Beaudoin of Turner, Paula and her husband Richard Beaudoin of Milford and Karol Worden of Dexter, six grandchildren, Jamie, Matthew, Eric, Nicole, Danielle and Joseph, special friends; nephew and wife Pete and Muriel Worden, niece and husband Margie and Larry Haskell, and sister-in-law and husband Marie and Robert Gilbert. He was predeceased by his wife of forty-nine years, Priscilla (Mountain) Worden in 1997 and was also predeceased by three brothers Willet, Frederick and Charles and five sisters, Marguerite Hunt, Mildred MacDonald, Helen Downar, Phyllis Cobb and Rose Cote.

Friends may call from 3- 7 P.M. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 A. M. Wednesday, November 21st, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Community Health and Counseling Hospice Program, 14 Summer Street, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426; the American Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice.

CHARLES GAMMON
GREENVILLE - Charles Gammon, 90, of Greenville, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at the Cortland Memorial Hospital, New York. He was born June 8, 1911, in Corinth, the son of the late William and Grace Nichols Gammon. Mr. Gammon was proprietor of the Gammon Camps in Rockwood, until his retirement in 1975. He also worked for Lane Construction for several years.

He is survived by a son, Charles H. Gammon of McGraw, N.Y.; stepdaughter, Ruby (Ronald) Pellitier of Old Town; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and grandson, Charles J. Gammon. He was predeceased by his wife, Julia Gammon; brother, George Gammon; and sister, Grace Gammon.

A graveside service will be held at Great Pond Cemetery, Aurora, at the convenience of the family. Wright-Beard Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

VIOLA F. LANDER
GUILFORD, Viola F. Lander, 88, died November 22, 2001 at her home in Guilford. She was born January 24, 1913 in Guilford, daughter of Ernest and Bernice (Herring) Conner. She was a member of the Guilford Center Baptist Church where she served as treasurer and was instrumental in keeping the church open for many years when full time Pastors were not available. Viola was a 7th degree member of the National Grange, 6th degree member of the State Grange, 5th degree member of the Pamona Grange and a member of the Guilford Center Grange where she has belonged for 73 years. She was also a member of the Guilford Senior Citizens, the Guilford Historical Society, the Guilford Senior Extension, the Mayo Hospital Auxiliary, the Elmwood cemetery Board, and served the Town of Guilford as Ballot Clerk and Warden for many years. For 19 years she worked as a cook for the SAD #4 School District. In the spring of 2001 Viola was presented the, "To Those Who Care Award".

She is survived by four sons and their wives, Robert and Joyce Lander of Abbot, William and Constance Lander of Milton, NH, Donald Lander of Frederick, MD, and Roderick and Carmen Lander of Guilford; a daughter, Joyce Huff of Parsippany, NJ; a sister, Vivian Reardon of Guilford; 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Viola was predeceased by her husband, Merwin L. Lander in 1981 and two daughters, Janice in 1993 and Ruth in 1938 and two great grandsons Josh Lander in 1991 and Merwin Grant in 1993.

Friends may call 6-8 pm Saturday November 24, 2001 at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Sunday November 25, 2001 at the funeral home, with Pastor David Lassell officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in Guilford. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Merwin and Viola Lander Scholarship Fund, c/o P.C.H.S., 9 Campus Drive, Guilford, ME 04443.

ROBERT D. BRIDGE
PARKMAN, Robert D. Bridge, 76, died November 22, 2001 at a Bangor hospital after a very short illness. He was born October 16, 1925 in Parkman, the son of Stanley A. and Faye (Perkins) Bridge. Educated in Parkman schools, he graduated from Guilford High School with the class of 1948 after serving in World War II. Mr. Bridge had been a farmer all his life in Parkman. He was a member of the Guilford Center Baptist Church. He was also a member of Parkman Grange #305, Valley Grange #144, Piscataquis Pomona Grange and Maine State Grange. Bob was a long time member of the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District, serving as a director for many years. He was a former member of the S.A.D. #4 School Board, a member of the Parkman Planning Board, a member of the Maine Farm Bureau and other agricultural groups.

He is survived by his wife of six years, Joyce (McAlister Miller) Bridge, one daughter and her husband, Brenda and Steve Hartford all of Parkman; two brothers, Galen Bridge of Tucson, Arizona and Nelson Bridge of Abbot; two grandchildren, Jason Robert Hartford of Parkman and Kylee Anne Hartford of Parsonsfield; two aunts, several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife of 45 years, Amber (Curtis) Bridge; his sisters, Audrey Gourley and Mary Cross also a brother Herbert Bridge.

Friends may call 6-9 pm Sunday November 25th at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday November 26th at the funeral home with Pastor David Lassell officiating. Burial will be in the Pingree Center cemetery in Parkman. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Guilford Center Baptist Church c/o Elaine Law, Milo Road, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426 or the Parkman Scholarship Fund c/o Town Office, Parkman, ME 04443.

KATHERENE M. MELVIN
GUILFORD, Katherene M. Melvin, 82, died November 23, 2001 at a Lake City, Florida medical center. She was born December 8, 1918 in Poland, Maine, daughter of Lloyd and Mabel Flanders. Kay worked for many years with the county extension and at one point was the county extension, Woman of the Year. She loved arts and crafts and enjoyed hooking rugs. One of Kay's favorite activities was mowing her lawn on her John Deer tractor. She was a member of the First Universalist Church of Sangerville and was a former member of the One and One Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold K. Melvin in 2000.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Ann and Gordon Manuel of Simpsonville, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Liza Manuel of South Carolina and Chad Manuel of Hudson.

Friends may call 6-8 pm Tuesday, November 27th at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, November 28th at the First Universalist Church of Sangerville with the Revs. Kenneth Dale and Adam Tierney officiating. Burial will be in Village cemetery in Sangerville. In lieu of flowers, because of Kay's love of animals, the family would like to have donations sent to the animal shelter at Foxcroft Veterinary Service, P.O. Box 418, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.
