ANDREW B. ST. LOUIS
SANGERVILLE – Andrew B. St. Louis, 22, died unexpectedly March 6, 2002 As the result of an automobile accident. He was born September 9, 1979 at Dover-Foxcroft the son of Ronny and Sherry (Knowlton) St. Louis. He graduated with high honors from PCHS, Class of 1997, and graduated from Calais Technical College. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union #716 of Bangor and was employed as a union welder. Andrew was an avid hunter and fisherman and will be remembered for His love of life.

He is survived by his parents, paternal grandmother Vivian St. Louis, and sister Nicky St. Louis, all of Sangerville; his brother Chad St. Louis, stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado; maternal grandparents, Donald and Joyce (Trefethen) Knowlton of Blanchard; aunts and uncles, Karen and Moncenia “Monte” Howard of Corinna, Thomas and Nola St. Louis of Parkman; Kathy and Jeff Willey of Sangerville, Charles and Gail Stevens of Newport, Maurice and Sandra St. Louis of Abbot, John St. Louis of Sangerville and Brian Knowlton of Blanchard; special friends, Adam Vernott, Jeremy Cupero, Kurt Leighton; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Francis St. Louis.

Friends mall call from 6-8 P.M. Friday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak Street, Guilford, where funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, March 9th. Burial will be in Sangerville Village Cemetery.

ROBERT J. JOHNSON SMITH, SR.
GREENVILLE - Robert J. Johnson Smith Sr., died March 7, 2002. He was born in Milo, the third son of Raymond W. Smith of Greenville and Marjorie Stubbs of Brownville Junction, April 7, 1934. He attended Greenville schools, and graduated from high school in 1953. After service with the USMC, he attended F.S.T.C., graduating in 1961, following a two-year sabbatical at Oxford Paper Company. From 1961 to 1984, he was a teacher/administrator at schools in Winterport, Stockton, Rockland, Searsport and Allagash. He was also employed for a number of years with various federal, state and county departments, retiring from Piscataquis County employment. Acquaintances will remember him for his ceaseless efforts to eliminate alcohol in any form. He was predeceased by his father in 1975, mother in October of 2001, brothers, Raymond in 1931 and Louis in 1980; his wife, Sallyanne Blanchard in 1966; and his fiancee, Thursie Manley in 1975. He was also predeceased by his three labs, all Kaisers.

He is survived by a brother, Raymond and wife, Betty of Mountain Home, Ark.; a sister, Jean King and her sister, Ester; his children, Robert of Greenville, Debbie Quinn of Greenville, Pamela Collins and Mick of Camden, Brian and wife, Carolyn of Belfast and Kurt of Camden and Florida; also grandchildren, Chris and Sally Quinn, Briana Collins and Matthew, Julianne, Andrew, Heather and Mark Smith; and a special aunt, Jean Hanson. We love you Dad and grandpa.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the People's United Methodist Church in Shirley.

GERTRUDE MAE DUANE
NEWPORT and CORINNA - Gertrude Mae Duane, 76, widow of Leonard Duane, Sr., died March 9, 2002 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born January 7, 1926 at Peckville, PA, the daughter of Evan and Miriam (Heller) Bebb. Gertrude was a resident of Newport for the past 2 years after moving here from Belvidere, NJ. She retired from Banton Brothers Mill in 1989. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church and enjoyed bingo, knitting and reading.

She is survived by 4 sons, Kevin Duane of Martins Creek, PA, Robert Duane of Houlton, David Duane of Orrington and Evan Duane of Plymouth; 2 daughters, Deborah Mullis of Corinna and Margaret Tanner of Palm Bay, FL; 2 sisters, Jane Sincock of Factoryville, PA and Doris Gately of Spring Hill, FL; 24 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Leonard, Jr.

Friends may call 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A.M. Wednesday, March 13th at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Fr. Raymond P. Morency officiating. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newport.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Agnes School, P.O. Box 369, Pittsfield, ME 04967; or the American Lung Association, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330-5615.

GERTRUDE CLUKEY ANDERSON
SANGERVILLE - Gertrude Clukey Anderson, 76, died March 9, 2002 at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 19, 1925, daughter of Lester and Hester (Goodell) Moulton. She attended schools in Sangerville and graduated from Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft. Gert worked for the Sangerville woolen mill and later for Hardwood Products Company in Guilford for over 20 years. She was a member of the Stott-Flanders American Legion Post in Sangerville, former member of the School Board, and volunteered as a fundraiser for the Heart Association. She was a long time member of Grace Bible Church in Sangerville. She enjoyed going out to eat, watching Red Sox games and her Sunday afternoon poker game.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Jerry Emery of Dover-Foxcroft and Karlene and Rick Pellerin of Sangerville; two sons, David Clukey and his wife Debbie, and Kevin Clukey and his friend Julie Hatch all of Sangerville; her stepfather, George Ronco of Sangerville; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Dulac of Sangerville, Barbara and her husband, Thomas Blake of Guilford, Bobbie Miles of Guilford, Russ and his wife, Alice Moulton of Sangerville, Donnie and his wife, Beverly Moulton of Dover-Foxcroft and Roger and his wife, Judy Moulton of Guilford; grandchildren, Tina and her husband, Lenny Green, Renee Emery and friend Scott, Chuck Emery and friend Susan, James Oldfield and friend, Rhonda, Jamie Marie Clukey and friend Gus, Wayne Clukey, Chris Clukey and friend Megan, Jhon Clukey and Frank and Richie Pellerin; great grandchildren, Brandon Green, Cheyenne Edgerly and Dakota Hamlin; two special girls, Heather and Kristin Woodbury; half brothers, Larry Moulton of Sangerville and Robert Moulton of Guilford; nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts; also her very special dog, Kodi. She was predeceased by a son, Brian Wayne Clukey, her first husband of 50 years, Wayne Clukey, her second husband of two years, James Anderson, a brother, Lester Moulton Jr., and a half brother, Wayne Moulton.

Friends may call 6-8 pm Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak Street, Guilford. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. David Kelly officiating. Spring burial will be in the Sangerville Village Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Grace Bible Church, P.O. Box 157, Sangerville, ME 04479.

JOSEPHINE M. JOHNSTON
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Josephine M. (Dewitt) Johnston, 86, wife of the late J. Arthur Johnston, died March 9, 2002, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born in Weston, N.B., Canada, July 3, 1915, the daughter of Parker and Mazie (Harris) Dewitt. She took great pride in her flower gardens and she enjoyed working on crafts and making quilts.

Josie is survived by a son, James P. Johnston and wife, Roberta of Sebec; three daughters, Charlotte Gross and husband, John of Ledyard, Conn., Evelyn Lawerence and husband, Don of Davenport, Wash., Nora Wellington and husband, Don of Brooksville, Fla.; two sisters, Letha McLellen of Woodstock, N.B., Canada, Della Taylor of Houlton; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchild-ren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, one sister, and a grandson.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, where funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, with the Rev. Chet Garrison officiating. A spring Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to Mayo Regional Hospital, 65 West Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.

KARLA R. MAHULL
MILO - Karla R. Mahull, 58, wife of the late Michael Mahull, died March 9, 2002, at her home, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Passaic, N.J., the daughter of John and Ruth (Mackulik) Kuhn. Karla had graduated in 1961 from DePaul Catholic High School, Wayne, N.J., where she was a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation, she worked as a secretary at the State Farm regional office in Wayne. In 1982, the family moved to Maine to enjoy Michael's retirement. Karla enjoyed refunding, shopping, and traveling. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church of Milo. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and grandmother, who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Michael Mahull, who died Feb. 5, 2000. In addition to her mother, Ruth Sarlo of Lavallette, N.J.; she is survived by two daughters, Jackie Whitney, Maureen Bowden and husband, Daren, all of Milo; a son, Thomas Mahull of Delray Beach, Fla.; five beloved grandchildren, Michael, Cheryl, Christina, Brooke and Erica.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Milo, with Fr. James Robichaud celebrant. A spring Interment will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Milo.

IRENE L. FISHER
NEWPORT & HARTLAND - Irene L. Fisher, 78, died March 10, 2002 at a Hartland nursing home. She was born September 29, 1923 at Codyville, the daughter of Harry and Cora (Day) Caldwell. She worked at Irving Tannery in Hartland, retiring in 1985. Irene loved fishing and music.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Nancy Gerald of Cambridge, Betty Richards of Lewiston, and Carol Stafford of Palm Bay, FL; 2 sisters, Hazel Batchelder and Jenny Bowman, both of Palmyra; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great grandson; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Thursday, March 14th, with the Rev. Ronald Parker officiating. Spring burial will be in the Maloon Cemetery, St. Albans.

CAROLYN A. RICHARD
MILO and BROWNVILLE JUNCTION - Carolyn A. Richard, 72, wife of the late Henry A. Richard, died March 11, 2002, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home, after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 3, 1930, in Milo, the daughter of Raymond and Madalene (Brown) Orff. She was a graduate of Milo High School, Class of 1947. She had worked at the Milo 5 and 10 Store, Lewis Mill, and at PCI. Carolyn will be sadly missed by her family.

She is survived by two sons, Timothy Richard and fianc‚e, Lydia Wright, Paul Richard and fianc‚e, Linda Beaudoin; a daughter, Cheryl and her husband, David Monahan; a sister, Ruth Page; several nieces and nephews. She was a loving grandmother to Heather Dow, Shelley Baker, Angel Richard, Aaron Richard, Dixie Monahan, David Monahan, and Ashley Monahan; and a loving great-grandmother of seven. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Orff, and a grandson, Ryan Monahan.

Friends are invited to call from 1 p.m. until time of service, 3 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2002, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with the Rev. Michelle St. Cyr officiating. HARRY M. McKINLEY
MILO - Harry M. McKinley, 77, died March 11, 2002, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. He was born July 5, 1924, in Orneville, the son of William and Violet (Badger) McKinley. A 1942 graduate of Dexter High School, Harry had worked in area saw mills.

He is survived by two brothers, John McKinley of Robinson, and James Garland of Tennessee; two half-brothers, Albert Cross of Alabama, and Francis Cross of Waldoboro; a sister, Alice Badger of Sangerville; two half-sisters, Amelia Nicols of Brownville, and Shirley Hutchinson of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, William, Alexander, and Robert; and a half-sister, Maxine.

Graveside services in Evergreen cemetery will be announced in the spring by the Lary Funeral Home.

STEPHEN JOHN MITCHELL
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Stephen John Mitchell, 74, husband of Eunice (Merrill) Kinney Mitchell, died March 12, 2002, at a local hospital. He was born April 30, 1927, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Clinton and Margaret (Brown) Mitchell. John was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1945, and the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1951. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in Panama. He worked as a surveyor and draftsman for Betchel Corporation in Los Angeles, as well as checking grade and specifications on a section of the Maine turnpike in the Portland area. He later cleared land and improved drainage at Rex Varnum Farms. John was a member of the East Dover Grange for 55 years, the Chadbourne Merrill American Legion Post No. 29, the Dover-Foxcroft Historical Society, and he attended Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice of Dover-Foxcroft; a step-daughter, Elaine (Kinney) Campbell and her husband, Bruce and their boys, Brian and Matthew, all of Meredith, N.H.; three brothers, Myron of North Hills, Calif., William of Dover-Foxcroft, and Richard of Sangerville; three sisters, Jane Waltz of Levant, Mildred Jackson of E. Baldwin, and Evelyn Cookson of Westbrook. He was predeceased by two sisters, Alice and Marilyn; and a brother, Arthur.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2002, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with American Legion services said at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Neil Gastonguay officiating. Spring Interment will be in Atkinson Corner Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 62, Dover-Foxcroft 04426.

WEBBER J. MASON
DEXTER - Webber J. Mason, 83, died March 13, 2002 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born January 24, 1919 in Airmo, Idaho son of Charles and Gertrude (Hanson) Mason. He graduated from N.H. Fay High School in Dexter and from the University of Maine in Orono. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.After the Army he attended Brown University and George Washington University. Webber served at the U.S. Embassy in Washington D.C. and in several foreign countries. After 15 years, he retired from Foreign Service and purchased a farm in St. Albans and later a dairy farm in Corinna.

He is survived by a brother and his wife, Glen and Secha Mason of Skowhegan; two sisters-in law, Vivian Mason of Newport and Estelle Mason of Corinna; several special nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors that looked after him and will miss him and his beautiful flower gardens that he loved so much.

Friends may call Saturday, March 16, 2002 from 1-3 pm at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter where funeral services will follow at 3 pm with Rev. Al Worden officiating. Spring burial will be in the Village cemetery in St. Albans. Those who wish may make donations to the charity of their choice.

JOHN M. SPRUCE
DOVER-FOXCROFT - John M. Spruce, 65, husband of Catherine (Taylor) Spruce, died unexpectedly March 13, 2002, in Orlando, Fla. He was born Oct. 28, 1936, in Millinocket, the son of Mahlon C. and Helen (Doucette) Spruce. He was a graduate of Stearns High School, Millinocket, Class of 1954, and University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind., Class of 1958. John loved children and spent most of his life in education, first as a classroom teacher for 14 years and then as principal of SeDoMoCha Middle School for another 14 years. During that time, he coached sports from Little League to high school. Through his many years of broadcasting local games, he became known by many as the "Voice of the Ponies." After his retirement seven years ago, he remained involved in education, working as an adult education teacher. He also was very active with the Piscataquis YMCA, first as interim director, and then as president of the board of directors until the time of his death.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Catherine of Dover-Foxcroft; four children and their families, Jody McKusick, her husband, Paul, their children, Melissa and her husband, Andrew Houser, Ashley and Scott; Jay Spruce and Tracey Jackson and their son, Kobie, and Jay's children, Trey and Brittany; Jennifer Gross, her husband, Donald, their sons, Colton and Taylor; Julie Bowen, her husband, Darrell, their children, Craig and Nicole. He is also survived by his mother, Helen Spruce of Millinocket. John touched many lives, and will be sadly missed by all of them.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, at SeDoMoCha Middle School, Dover-Foxcroft, with the Rev. Kenneth Dale officiating. Spring Interment will be in Lee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Piscataquis YMCA, 30 Park St., Dover-Foxcroft 04426. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.

LAURIE ANN SIMPSON
NEWPORT - Laurie Ann Simpson, 42, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, March 15, 2002. She was born Jan. 23, 1960, the daughter of Gerald and Margery (Dow) Robinson of Hartland. She attended Nokomis Regional High School and received her diploma in 1978. Laurie worked most of her adult life for Scott Paper/Sappi Industries in Hinckley. She was an avid gardener and craftsperson and took great pleasure in sharing her hobbies with her family and friends. She was also a devoted grandmother.

Laurie is survived by her parents and her children, Timothy Clark and his wife, Tonya of Waterville, Daimon Clark of Palmyra, Tara Broz and her husband, Jesse of Fairfield, Travis Simpson of Fairfield and Scott Simpson and his wife, Sherry of Standish. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren, Ethan Clark, Evan Clark and Samantha Broz; as well as a brother, Alan Robinson and his wife, Richyl of Hartland; and a sister, Colleen Theriault and her husband, Stanley of Palmyra, many nieces and nephews. Laurie was predeceased by her brother, Daniel Robinson.

There will be a memorial service for Laurie 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Newport American Legion Hall, North Street, Newport. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Sebasticook Garden Club, care of Donna Friend, 69 High St., Newport. There will be a graveside burial service in the spring at the Pinegrove cemetery in Hartland. Arrangements are being handled by Pine State Cremation Services of Richmond.

PANSY WILLIAMS CLARK
CORINNA - Pansy “Pat” Clark, 87, died peacefully March 16, 2002 at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born June 28, 1914 at Amity the daughter of Bina and Nellie (Tracy) Williams. On March 1, 1932 she married Harold J. Clark. He predeceased her on January 9, 1996. She was employed at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna for 23 years. She was loved by her family and many friends.

Pat is survived by 2 sons, Kenneth and Lawrence, both of Corinna; a grandson which they raised, Kevin Clark of Manchester, NH, grandsons Craig and Jimmy Clark, and Craig’s daughter Danielle, all of Corinna, and grand-daughters, Barbara and husband David Hewins of Corinna, Jennifer and husband Robert Briggs, and their son Beau of Newport, Jaime and James Pettingill of Old Orchard Beach, Jaclyn and fiancé Timothy Sawtelle of Corinna; and a sister, Muriel Ward of Lakeland, Florida.

Spring graveside committal services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Corinna.
