SUSAN DOUGLASS BROWN BLATCHFORD
MONSON - Susan Douglass Brown Blatchford, died unexpectedly March 26, 2002, at the age of 71. She was born Oct. 2, 1930, in New York City, N.Y., the daughter of the late S. Howell Brown Jr. and Dorothy Robert Brown. Susan grew up in Summit, N.J. and Mamaroneck, N.Y., and was a graduate of Greenwich Academy, Endicott Junior College, the University of Maine at Orono, and Simmons College Graduate School of Library Science. Susan had a keen intellect with wide-ranging interests, including vintage photography and her beloved home in Monson. For many years, she was both friend and caregiver as well as artistic executrix to Bernice Abbott, the esteemed photographer, who died in 1991.

She is survived by four daughters, Alicia (Kindy) W. Blatchford of Wellesley, Mass., Sarah (Sally) B. Ijams and husband, John H. (Jack) Ijams of Southport, Conn., Lucy B. Dillon and husband, Brian D. Dillon of Medfield, Mass. and Ellen B. McDermott and husband, David B. McDermott, M.D., of Dover-Foxcroft; a sister, Sarah B. Blatchford and husband, Peter Blatchford of South Dartmouth, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Katharine Seton Ijams, Phoebe Lord Blatchford Ijams, Caroline Clark Moore, Edward Vincent Dillon, Susan Douglass Dillon, Amelia Lou McDermott and Lucy Elizabeth McDermott; six nieces and nephews. Two marriages to John Blatchford of Orrington ended in divorce.

Memorial services and Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Monson Volunteer Fire Department, Monson 04464, are welcome. Arrangements in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.

EILEEN McPHETRES
SANGERVILLE and GREEN VALLEY, ARIZ. - Eileen McPhetres, 79, wife of Dr. Erwood McPhetres, died unexpectedly, March 30, 2002, while vacationing in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico.

An obituary will be published when arrangements have been completed.

Services will be held at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Guilford, later in the spring.

MARGARET E. CLARK
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Margaret E. Clark, 83, wife of the late Kenneth L. Clark, died April 2, 2002, at a local hospital. She was born March 7, 1919, in Palermo, the daughter of Edward and Lottie (Campbell) Cain. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed her family and spending time at Piper Pond. She also enjoyed embroidery and reading.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth and his wife, Sandi Clark of Dover-Foxcroft, Dana and his wife, Sally Clark of Lewiston, Bradley and his wife, Lori Clark of Kittery; a son-in-law, Calvin Anderson of Yarmouth; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Janice Anderson.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2002, at the family lot in Sebec Corner Cemetery, with the Rev. Kenneth Dale officiating. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to American Diabetes Assoc., Maine Affiliate Inc., P.O. Box 2208, Augusta 04338-2208. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.

ARTHUR L. BURNHAM, SR.
PALMYRA - Arthur L. Burnham, Sr. 80, passed away April 2, 2002 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born March 31, 1922 in St. Albans, son of Miron and Caroline (Tyler) Burnham. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 32 in Pittsfield for 36 years and was also a member of the V.F.W. Post in Pittsfield and the 40/8 in Waterville.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Geraldine (Richardson) Burnham of Palmyra and his friend, the dog, Roscoe; two daughters, Candace Shlitter and Patricia Neil; three sons, Bruce Washburn; Jai Kybler and Arthur Burnham Jr.; a brother, Harvey Burnham; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, George Burnham.

Private calling hours will be held at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home in Newport. Burial will be in the Maine Memorial Veterans cemetery in Belgrade. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in his memory to, American Legion Post #32, c/o Ed Paradis, P.O. Box 151, Pittsfield, ME 04967.

PHYLLIS B. SEAVEY
N. NEWPORT - Phyllis B. Seavey, 86, died April 5, 2002 at her home in N. Newport. She was born March 8, 1916, in St. Albans, daughter of Frank and Amy (Cook) Brooks. She graduated from the Corinna Union Academy, class of 1934 and worked as a school bus driver for many years. She was a member of the Corinna United Methodist Church and Past President of their United Methodist Women’s Club. Phyllis was a Past Matron of the Corinna Chapter of the O.E.S. and a 50-year life member of the Nokomis Chapter of the O.E.S. She was also a member and Past President of the Happy Hour Club and was Treasurer of the N. Newport Church Association.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Calvin W. Seavey of N. Newport; five sons and their wives, Keith and Connie Seavey of Corinna, Deane and Barbara Seavey of Falmouth, Wayne Seavey and his friend, Donna of Bangor, Dennis and Leila Seavey of Newport, and Michael and Linda Seavey of Plymouth, a daughter and her husband, Elaine and Walter Littlefield of Levant, three brothers and their wives, Maurice and Nathalie Brooks of Corinna, Robert and Lois Brooks of S. Athol, Mass., and Herbert and Mim Brooks of Dexter, a sister, Beatrice Frost of Clinton, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Harold, Earle, Donald, and Phillip; a sister, Joanne; a daughter-in-law, Diane Seavey, and a grandson, Kevin Seavey.

Friends may call 4-7 pm Monday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna. Funeral services will be held 11 am Tuesday, at the Corinna United Methodist Church with Rev. Dianne Danielson officiating. The family would like to extend a personal invitation to join them for conversation and refreshments, in the Church Annex, following the service. Burial will be later in the spring at the Village cemetery in Corinna. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Corinna United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, c/o Joanne Metevier, P.O. Box I, Corinna, ME 04928.

SCOTT W. WOODARD
EXETER - Scott W. Woodard, 36, died April 5, 2002 in Exeter. He was born December 8, 1965 in Dover-Foxcroft, son of Duane and Linda (Crosby) Woodard.

He is survived by his wife, Tina (Burrows) Woodard of Exeter; six children, Ariel Woodard, Pheonix Woodard, Kristina Buzzell, Raymond Buzzell, Tanya Buzzell and William Burrows; his mother, Linda McInnis and her husband Gary of Guilford; father, Duane and his wife, Rose Woodard of Detroit; stepfather, Harry McInnis of Dover-Foxcroft; sister, Kathy and her husband Kevin Drew and their daughter, Jennifer; brother, Harry E. McInnis of Texas and his sons, Eric and Ryan; brothers, Greg McInnis; D.J. Woodard, Charles Woodard, Glen Richardson; sister, Annette Curtis and her children, Charlie, Robert and Sarah.

A Memorial service will be held at 1 pm Thursday, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St.

ROBERT J. AUCOCK
CORINNA - Robert J. Aucock, 56, died April 7, 2002, in Bangor. He was born Nov. 14, 1945.

He is survived by three sons, Herbert Jr., Robert Jr. and Hubert; a daughter, Rhonda Aucock; and his best friend, Mildred Newcomb.

At his wish, there will be no service. Arrangements are by Thompson Funeral Home, 30 St. Albans Road, Corinna.

JOSEPH ELI STEFANIK, SR.
CORINTH - Joseph Eli Stefanik Sr., 70, died April 7, 2002, at a Bangor Nursing Facility. He was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Freeland, Pa., the son of the Late John and Mary (Branz) Stefanik. As a child, Joe's family moved to Baltimore, Md., where he grew to love professional sports, especially the Baltimore Colts and the Baltimore Orioles. Joe left Patterson Park High School his senior year to join the U.S. Navy, where he served 20 years of dedicated service. As a Yeoman, he served aboard several ships, among them were the USS Ranger, the USS Forestall, and the USS Intrepid. He served as a court reporter in Naples, Italy and his last assignment, prior to retirement was at the Bureau of Navel Personnel in Washington, DC, where he met and married Nita Greatorex, the mother of his four children. After retiring from the Navy, Joe moved to Corinth, where he continued his love of sports by joining the Wednesday Night Bowling League at Family Fun Lanes in Bangor, where he served as president for several years. He also coached the Corinth II Farm League for three years. When Joe suffered from his first stroke in 1997, he moved from Corinth to Kenduskeag, where he lived until he entered the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor in January of this year.

He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Stefanik) and her husband, Jason Albert of Glenburn; sons, Jack and his wife, Shannon of Orrington, Joseph Jr. and Renee of Corinth, Luke and Jessi of Houlton; seven grandchildren, Riley, Ty, Jaelen, Destiny, Daimian, Trey and Keanen; sister, Ann (Stefanik) and her husband, Dwinal Rideout of Brewer; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased two sisters, Marie Stefanik and Angeline Sly; and two brothers, Francis and John Stefanik.

Friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday April 9, 2002, at Brookings-Smith 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 754 Ohio St., Bangor, with the Rev. Frank J. Murray, pastor, presider. Interment will be held at a later date.

JOSEPH ELI STEFANIK, SR.
WILLIMANTIC - Neil D. Patterson, 83, died April 8, 2002 at his home in Willimantic. He was born Feb. 23, 1919 in Willimantic, son of Lynwood and Maude (Davis) Patterson. He served in the US Army during WWII and was in the service for 5 years, 4 months and 3 days. Neil was serving in Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack. After the service, he lived both in Maine and New Mexico and enjoyed farming. He was predeceased by his wife Faye Patterson in 1999.

He is survived by 3 sons and their wives, Linwood and Suzanne Patterson, Michael and Susan Patterson of Arizona, Warren and Sally Patterson of Brewer; 3 daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Victor Hewett of Virginia, Sherry and Wally Hinckley of E. Winthrop, Karolyn and Michael Gary of Abbot; 12 grandchildren, Joe Ray, Kathy Kingston, Teresa Nelson, Tess Burdin, Quinten Patterson, Cassandra Patterson, Justin Patterson, Michael Patterson, Kyle Patterson, Warren Patterson, Michael Gary, Daniel Gary; 8 great grandchildren, Kimberly and Corey Ray, Michael and Allison Kingston, Carrie, Ryan, Kristy and Brenden Nelson; a brother and his wife, Paul and Jan Patterson of North Carolina, several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 6-8 pm Thursday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held Friday 1 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Lloyd Rozelle officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery in Willimantic.

BRUCE A. PACKARD
WILLIMANTIC - Bruce A. Packard, 90, died April 9, 2002, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. He was born January 19, 1912 in Willimantic, son of Coney and Mildred (Knowles) Packard. He worked as a carpenter for many years and was a Maine Guide. He was a member of the Willimantic Grange and attended the Willimantic Community Church.

He is survived by his wife, Frances (Meserve) Packard of Sangerville; a son, Alan Packard of Vermont; 2 daughters, Mary Marquis of Westbrook and Carlene Washburn of Portland; 3 grandchildren, Christopher, Ronald, and Laurie; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; 3 sisters, Joyce, Iola and Elizabeth.

Graveside services will be held at 11 am Saturday April 20, 2002, at the Riverside cemetery in Willimantic with Rev. Lloyd Rozelle officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

LAURA L. WITHEE
DEXTER - Laura L. Withee, 61, died April 9, 2002, at her home in Dexter.She was born April 21, 1940 in Waterville, and raised in Parkman, the first of three girls to William and Ruth (Downing) Greeley. Laura graduated from P.C.H.S. and then went on to attend Nyack College in New York. She worked as a CNA in several nursing homes and home health agencies for many years. Laura was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter and was active in the choir and numerous committees.

She will be lovingly missed by her husband, Gordon, of 13 years and her immediate and extended family; her children, Joni and David Boissonneault of Windham; Jon and wife Jen Hanson of Palmyra; three stepchildren, Lisa and Peter Nagle of Wilton, John and Cathy Withee of Murray, Kentucky; Heidi and Stephen Lawson of Dexter; eight adored grandchildren, and four wonderful great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sister and her husband, Marlene and Martin Glidden of Orrington as well as nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by a special mother-in-law, Lois Cobbett of Dexter, and a very special family pet, Pudgie. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Shirley Malave.

Friends may call 6-8 pm Friday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street in Dexter.Funeral services will be held 2 pm Saturday, at the First Baptist Church in Dexter, with Rev. Jay Brennan officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Dexter. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Laura Withee to Community Health and Counseling Services, Hospice, 14 Summer Street, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.

CARLTON P. "Gug" INMAN
GREENVILLE - Carlton P. "Gug" Inman, 73, husband of the late Hilda Marie (Owens) Inman, died April 10, 2002, in Greenville, at his daughter's residence. He was born Sept. 9, 1928, in Greenville, the son of Harry E. and Murtina (Doughty) Inman. A U.S. Army veteran, he had served in Korea. Carlton was employed by Great Northern Paper Co. for 43 years, on the road crew. He was a member of the Columbia-Doric Masonic Lodge No. 149, and the Cecil R. Cole American Legion Post No. 94.

He is survived by a son, Jeffrey and his wife, Nancy Inman of Greenville; three daughters, Penny and her husband, Danny Legere of Greenville, Pamela and her husband, Wayne Beckwith of Greenville, Patti and her husband, Dan Goulet of Boothbay Harbor; a twin brother, Carl and his wife, Faye Inman of Texas; three sisters, Sylvia and her husband, Walter "Junior" Crossman of Greenville, Christina Ward of Greenville, Hildreth Crosby of Palmyra; six grandchildren, David Inman, Saunders Moore II, Alex Rockwell, Liza Rockwell, Naomi Inman and Sierra Inman; a great-granddaughter, Lea Dewey; his mother-in-law, Louise Owens of Greenville; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank; a sister, Thelma Poulin; and a granddaughter, Summer Keene.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, at the family lot in Greenville Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Columbia-Doric Masonic Lodge No. 149, P.O. Box 322, Greenville Jct. 04442. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.

RICHARD B. FOLSOM
GREENVILLE - Richard B. Folsom, one of the oldest surviving truly Maine bush pilots, died on the way to his favorite daughter's house, April 11, 2002. He was born in Greenville, Dec. 30, 1918, the son of Malcolm L. and Madeline Brett Folsom. Dick graduated in the first class to graduate from the new Oakes School in Greenville. After high school, he worked for Fred Sawyer on the mail boat on Moosehead Lake. He later went to Spartan Aircraft School in Tulsa, Okla. He learned mechanics working for Pratt & Whitney in 1940-1941. He first soloed in 1941 and received his private pilots license after World War II. In 1942, he joined the Army Air Corps. as a mechanic, serving in the Pacific. In 1946, along with Charles Sawyer and Stanley Wilt, Folsom bought his first plane and shortly thereafter, started Folsom's Air Service. Over the years, he and his pilots flew hunters, fishermen and vacationers into the wilderness, along with delivering supplies to sporting camps and woods camps. Dick and his pilots were known to carry anything that could be loaded or tied onto a plane including refrigerators, stoves, canoes, and lumber. In 1964, Dick and Charlie Coe started providing water-bombing services using Folsom's DeHaviland Beaver for the State Forestry Department. Dick retired in 1982 and worked as a consultant with his son, Max, until his death. Dick enjoyed work, friends, and family. He enjoyed meals at Wilson Pond Restaurant, during the summer months. He put extra miles on his Intrepid this winter, traveling to Beaver Cove to advise the "Brat" on his Cessna 206 project. Evenings, Dick could be found on the phone, keeping Linda "in-the-know" on the goings-on in Greenville. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his brother, Max Folsom of Greenville; sister and brother-in-law, Fred and Mary McInnis of Orono; and longtime friend and companion, Nancy Soule of Concord. In addition, he is survived by his children, Hugh and Linda McEachern, Max and Judy Folsom, Rodney and Vanessa Folsom, all of Greenville, Willis and Ellen Lakeman of Medway, Fred and Ann Hansen, James and Diane Folsom, Helen Smeaton, and Roscoe Schroeder, all of Dillingham, Alaska He is survived by 19 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, several nieces, and the world's smartest cat, Scamp.

There will be a party, at Max and Judy's, to celebrate Dick's life, 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14. We wish to invite Dick's close friends to attend, share memories, and have a good time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Charles A. Dean Hospital, P.O. Box 1129, Greenville, ME 04441; Moosehead Marine Museum, P.O. Box 1151, Greenville, ME 04441; or Greenville High School, P.O. Box 100, Greenville, ME 04441. "He is ever giving advice to Max and Max is ever thinking of his own way of doing things."

CHARLES N. DODGE
GUILFORD - Charles N. Dodge, age 86, died April 13, 2002 in Alexandria, Virginia. Charles married his wife, Virginia, July 26, 1942; they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 26, 2002.A resident of Franconia, Alexandria, Va. for 50 years, he was born February 8, 1916 and raised in Guilford, Maine and attended Guilford High School. He was employed as a movie projectionist and was employed by the Guilford Woolen Mill as a weaver prior to World War II.He served during World War II in the United States 4th Armored Division 24th Engineer Battalion. He arrived in England and fought in England, France, Germany, and Chippenham and was in the Battle of the Bulge. After World War II, he and his wife lived in Bangor. He was employed as an automotive mechanic, foreman, and service manager initially employed by Henley Kambal working on Hudson automobiles in Bangor. He then moved to the Alexandria, Virginia area and was employed at a Hudson Dealership in Alexandria, VA., Cherner Lincoln/Ford Dealership in Shirlington, VA, and Logan Lincoln/Ford Dealership in Springfield, VA. He was a lifetime member of the 4th Armored Division Association that was organized in 1946.He was a member of the Society of Virginia and served as President from 1982 to 1984 and was a member of the Maine State Society. His hobbies included building, woodcrafts, photography, traveling, yard work and gardening.When they moved into their new home in December, 1952, he built their garage; (he had their daughter, Crystal, lay the cornerstone of the garage). He also built additions on their home; a large kitchen and a large rec. room with an upstairs bedroom and 2 bathrooms. He loved building items made out of wood (bookcases, etc.) and was excellent at it. He enjoyed traveling.In 1967, for their 25th Wedding Anniversary, he and his wife went to England, Germany, Chippenham, and France to visit the places he fought in WW II.They went back again in a couple of years visiting England, Germany, and Italy.He and his wife also traveled to California, Hawaii, Mexico, Texas, and the East Coast from Florida to Maine.

He is survived by his wife Virginia E. Dodge of Alexandria, Va., one daughter, Crystal Dodge Sims of Annandale, Va., one granddaughter Tracy Sims Wheless of Asheboro, North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 am Wednesday April 24, 2002 at the Elmwood cemetery in Guilford. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.
