PAUL E. LaBREE
SANGERVILLE - Paul E. LaBree, 86, died March 24, 2002, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. He was born August 27, 1915, in Guilford, son of Harry and Edith (Backus) LaBree. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the Stott-Flanders American Legion Post in Sangerville. Paul worked at Guilford Industries and later for the Draper Corporation, now Pride’s Manufacturing in Guilford. For fifteen years prior to his retirement Paul worked in the maintenance department for S.A.D. #4 in Guilford.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lillian (Wilson) LaBree of Sangerville; a son, David H. LaBree of Brewer and Florida.

At his request there will be no public calling hours. Graveside services will be held 11 am Wednesday May 15, 2002 at the Lawn cemetery in Guilford. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

GLADYS M. HAYNES
DEXTER – Gladys M. Haynes, 96, died May 15, 2002 at her residence. She was born April 5, 1906 at Troy the daughter of Oscar and Edna (Morton) Hathaway. She graduated from Maine Central Institute. Gladys was a life member of the Order of The Eastern Star, a member of the Dexter United Methodist Church, but next to her family the most special thing in her life was her involvement with the Dexter Sunshine Club, in which she was actively involved until her passing. She was anavid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and was dearly loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Gwen and husband Dean Thompson of Dexter, Janice and husband Brodie Ormon of North Leeds; 4 grandchildren, Daphne Sanders of MountVernon, Jan Nadeau of Auburn, Ian Ormon of Bristol, Vermont, and Jonahan Ormon ofNorth Leeds; five great grandchildren; a nephew and 2 nieces. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Ray Hathaway of St. Albans, and Victor Hathaway of Hampden.

Friends may call from 2-4 PM Friday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Saturday, May 18th at the Dexter United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lois Merrifield officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Sunshine Club, c/o Mrs. Nancy Baldwin, 59 Acadia Street, Dexter, ME 04930.

ALMA B. JENKINS
GUILFORD - Alma B. Jenkins, 82, died March 20, 2002 at a Skowhegan hospital. She was born November 10, 1919 in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of J. Frank and Pearl (Crozier) Roberts. She grew up on the family farm in Abbot where she was Valedictorian of the last class to graduate from Abbot High School in 1938. On March 26, 1939 she married Gus A. Jenkins who predeceased her in 1976. After retiring from Guilford of Maine in 1982, Alma enjoyed spending time at her Piper Pond camp. She was a very loyal, dedicated member of area organizations with Chiquita Temple of Pythian Sisters, the Rebekahs, American Legion Auxiliary, Garden Club, and the Guilford Historical Society being the ones where she was most active as long as her health permitted.

Survivors include a brother, Dr. Norman F. Roberts and wife Shoko of Pearl City, Hawaii; a sister, Katheryn E. Sakahara and husband Glenn, of Abbot; nieces Rusella (Mitchell) Johnson, Robin Roberts, and Kathryn (Roberts) Yamate; nephews Richard, Jon, Jay, Timothy, Norman Jr., and Kenneth Roberts; and many grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Myona G. Mitchell, a brother, Duane C. Roberts, and a nephew, Ronald L. Mitchell. She also will be remembered by her special caregivers at Somerset Rehab and Living Center in Bingham.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2002 from 2-4 pm at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. A committal service will be held 1 pm Friday, May 17, 2002, at the Elmwood cemetery in Guilford. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to the Scholarship Fund of the Conner-Trafton American Legion Auxiliary, P.O. Box 215, Guilford, ME 04443.

MARGARET E. LOVEJOY
WINTER HARBOR & MILO - Margaret E. Lovejoy, passed away May 17, 2002, at a Bangor hospital, surrounded by loved ones. She was born Aug. 8, 1920, in Milo, the daughter of Walter I. and Thelma A. Waterhouse. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 44 years, Winfield H. Lovejoy; brothers, George R. Waterhouse and Walter (Byron) Waterhouse; sister, Ava L. Strout and grandson, Winfield R. "Butchie" Bell. Margaret had a tremendous love for her family and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy E. Mckean of Winter Harbor, Brenda G. and husband, A. Stuart Northup of Sterling, Alaska; grandchildren, Sheryl L. and husband, James Smith, their children, Shana, Jolleen, Siobhan and Serena; Walter R. Bell and fiance, Lori Gaudette, their children, Patrick, Thomas and Kelley; Jennifer C. Rotz and fiance, Jeff Grant; Kathryn R. and husband, Robert Burnett, their children, Nathan and Justin; brother, Richard M. Waterhouse and wife, Mae of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister, Ruth A. Waterhouse; adopted sister, Edith Lepelley of Ellsworth; special sister-in-law and friend, Carolyn Whaley, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Margaret's second home was Chase's Restaurant. She enjoyed the wit and wisdom of the many customers she served over the years who became family to her. A devoted employee of 39 years who only recently considered "retiring". Margaret was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. She found great pleasure spending time with her TOPS members. Her favorite pastimes were watching the Red Sox, shopping and playing scratch off tickets.

Visitation hours will be 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at Lary Funeral Home, Elm St., Milo, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Memorial services will be held in Winter Harbor at a future date to be announced. Burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in her honor to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

ENOLA H. HAYDEN
ABBOT - Enola H. Hayden, 74, died February 4, 2002 at her Pond Road residence. She was born August 11, 1927 at Abbot, the daughter of Harry and Louise (Looke) Crabtree. She retired from Hardwood Products in Guilford.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Nash of Springvale; 1 brother, Howard Crabtree of Tennesee; 3 sisters, Courtney McCann of Abbot, Althea Rogers of Monson and Marie Fitzgerald of Arizona; 3 grandchildren, Paula Nash, Scott Nash and Timothy Nash all of Springvale; 3 step great grandchildren; numerous sister-in-laws; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold and a son, Randy.

Spring graveside services will be held at Village Cemetery, Abbot. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

MADELYN E. CAMPBELL
ABBOT - Madelyn E. Campbell, 83, died February 7, 2002 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born April 9, 1918 in Abbot, daughter of Max and Mary (Pooler) Leeman. She graduated from Abbot High School class, of 1936 and attended nurses training at Eastern Maine General in Bangor. Madelyn lived in Greenville, Bath and then moved back to the family farm where she was born in Abbot. She worked at Buxton's Store in Abbot and later for many years at Goulette's IGA in Guilford. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters, the American Legion Auxiliary in Abbot and the United Methodist Church in Guilford. For the past couple of years Madelyn has lived at the Dexter Health Care Facility and has enjoyed the excellent care of the nurses and staff. She was predeceased by her husband, George C. Campbell in 1975 and a brother, Kenneth who died in infancy.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Sharon and John McKusick of Abbot; 4 grandchildren; Kenneth and his wife, Christine McKusick of Guilford, Robert McKusick of North Carolina, Charles McKusick and Kathleen McKusick of Abbot; 2 great grandchildren, Matthew and Daniel of Guilford.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford, with the Rev. Dr. Margaret “Dodie” Stowe officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 pm until the time of the service. Spring burial will be in the Village cemetery in Abbot. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations to the Abbot Historical Society, Janice McAllister, Treas., P.O. Box 105, Abbot, ME 04406.

BEATRICE "BEA" M. GRANT
ABBOT – Beatrice “Bea” M. Grant, 76, died February 23, 2002, at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 8, 1925 in Abbot, the daughter of Alvah and Vina (Higgins) Perkins. Bea graduated from Guilford High School in 1943. After graduation she worked for Hamilton Propeller in Hartford, CT. On returning to Maine she worked for Dakins Sporting Goods in Bangor. She then worked for Hardwood Products. From 1958 until 1991, she worked at Guilford Industries.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Erroll E. Grant Sr.; one daughter, Noreen Crocker; one son, Erroll E. Grant Jr.; three grandchildren, Tara Harper, Heidi Crocker, and Derrick Crocker; five great-grandchildren, Tia Grant, Samantha Harper and Reyanna Harper, Cameron Mushero and Cody Mushero; three cousins, Ida Greenleaf of Foxboro, MA, Betty Stebbins of Winchester, MA, and Peggy Davis of Augusta, Maine.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday May 23rd at the Village cemetery in Abbot with Rev. Kenneth Dale officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to Mayo Regional Hospital, 75 W. Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME, 04426. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

NORMAN E. PAGE
GARLAND - Norman E. Page, 88, died May 17, 2002, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. He was born March 26, 1914, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, son of Herbert and Anna (Brezette) Page. He served in the US Army During WWII in the European Theater. He and his twin brother, Orman, operated the family farm in Garland for many years. In 1995, when the farm burned, he moved to Dexter into the home of his cousin, Esther Harmon, who was raised with him and was like a sister. He was a member of the Garland Grange and was an honorary lifetime member of the VFW in Dexter. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Herbert J. and Orman, and his cousin Esther Harmon.

He is survived by other family members and many old and new friends.

Friends may call 7-8 PM Wednesday, May 22, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Thursday at the West Garland Cemetery, with military honors.

ODELE D. "JEANNETTE" LEWIS
DEXTER - Odele D. “Jeannette” Lewis, 92, passed away February 24, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor after a long battle with lung cancer and many major medical complications. She was born January 24, 1910 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the oldest child of Charles and Odila (Tetreault) St. Germain. Her beloved family was the most important thing in her life; she said, “a mother’s job is to keep the family together,” and it was with great pride she boasted that she had done her job well. She touched the hearts of those who knew her, and she was loved by all.

She is survived by her children, Jeannette (Gould-Lewis) Merrill of Skowhegan, Hubert R. Lewis Sr. and his wife, Ethel of Abbot, Betty-Lou Lewis of Bangor, Charlene and her husband, W. “Randy” Randall of Bangor, Ralph Edward Lewis of Frenchboro and Clarence “CC” Lewis and his wife, Theresa of Manchester, Connecticut; 20 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 15 great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, many wonderful friends including Marguerite and Eddie Carr and Anita Ducas of Dexter; special friends, Mary C. Davis of Bangor and Dot Munson of Glenburn. She was predeceased by her first and second husbands, Alfred Gould and Harold A.O. Lewis; an infant son, Charles Edward Gould; brothers, Raymond and Edward St. Germain; sister, Alice Hebert; stepdaughter, Lena Savage and stepson, Harold Lewis.

Visitation will be from 10-11 am Tuesday February 26, 2002, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter, followed by funeral services at 11 am. Spring burial is being held at 1:30 p.m., May 24 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

CECILIA M. DOYON
DEXTER - Cecilia M. Doyon, 96, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died Monday December 24, 2001 at a Dexter health care facility. Cecilia was born March 10, 1905, in Dexter, the daughter of Joseph and Nellie (Boulette) Goulette. She was a life-long communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter and in her early years was a member of the Sodality of St. Anne. Cecilia worked as a weaver in local mills for over fifty years while raising her family. She was a person of great faith and her family's well-being was always her first priority. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Albertina Courtney and Geneva Shaughnessy; brothers, Fernald, Hilary and Justin Goulette; a daughter, Loretta Clifford and son-in-law, Frank Clifford of Dexter; and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Doyon.

She is survived by four sons and their wives, Clifford and Carol Doyon of Arlington, Mass., Hilary and Frances Doyon of Dunnellon, Florida, Dana Doyon of Madison, Conn. and Douglas and Dorothy Doyon of Dexter; a daughter and her husband, Beverly and Dale Ward of Bangor; 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 6-8 pm Friday December 28, 2001 at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 am Saturday, December 29, 2001 at St Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter with Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Spring burial will be held 4 pm, Friday May 24, 2002, at Mount Pleasant cemetery in Dexter with Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

GERALDINE C. TAYLOR
DEXTER - Geraldine C. Taylor, 91, a resident of Dexter, passed away February 18, 2002 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital, following a brief illness. She was born in Bradford, December 24, 1910, daughter of Spencer H. and Inez Perkins Colbath.

Gerry, as she was affectionately called, graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, and from Colby College in Waterville, class of 1933, with a degree in English Literature. She spent the following summer studying for her Masters Degree in London, England. Prior to her marriage to Dr. H. Lewis Taylor, she taught English at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, and also at Orono High School, in Orono. She was married to Dr. Taylor in December 1938 and made her home in Dexter where she was a member and Past President of the Dexter Women’s Literary Club. She was an avid bridge player and loved her flower gardens. She was also a great devotee of the Classics and Fine Arts.

She was predeceased by her husband in April 1995. She is survived by her daughter, Diana Taylor Paine and her husband, Jesse of Dexter and her beloved grandson, Daniel R. Slater and his wife Karen of Manchester, N.H. A Memorial service will be held 1 pm Friday February 22, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Dexter, with Rev. Lois Merrifield officiating. Spring burial will be held 9 am, Friday May 24, 2002, at Mount Pleasant cemetery in Dexter, with Rev. Lois Merrifield officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

JAMES F. COX
NEWBURGH AND DEXTER - James F. Cox died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at his Newburgh home. He was 87. He was born Sept. 1, 1914, in Bangor. The Thomas Hill House, now the Bangor Historical Society, was his childhood home. Mr. Cox was a 1932 graduate of Bangor High School and attended Hebron Academy for a postbaccalaureate year. Receiving his bachelors degree in economics from Bowdoin College in 1937, he earned his law degree from Columbia University in 1940 and briefly practiced law in Dexter before joining the U.S. Army and seeing action in Germany and France during WWII. Following the war, he attended Harvard University, then returned to his law practice in Dexter. He served one term as a representative in the Maine legislature. He was a municipal judge for the Dexter area and was recognized by his peers as having an exceptional legal mind. He retired from his private practice and was the corporate lawyer for Dexter Shoe Co. An erudite world traveler, Mr. Cox chose to serve the community of Dexter where he was deeply respected for his humility and honesty. His sharp mind, dry wit, and kindness will be sadly missed. Mr. Cox is predeceased by his parents, James F. and Mary Burns Cox; his wife, Agnes Richardson Cox; and a sister, Joan Cox Eyerer.

He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Connie Cox of Milton, Mass.; a sister, Barbara C. Van Italie of Old Saybrook, Conn.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Evan and Joan Cox of Bangor; several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and two dear friends, Virginia Mullison of Guilford and Judge Allan Woodcock of Bangor.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Abbott Memorial Library, Main Street Hill, Dexter, Maine 04930. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A Mass in celebration of Mr. Cox's life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Free Street in Dexter, with the Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Graveside committal services will be held 3 pm Friday May 24, 2002, at Mount Pleasant cemetery in Dexter, with Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

FRANCIS C. CURRIER
CAMBRIDGE - Francis C. Currier, 81, died December 19, 2001 at his home in Cambridge. He was born December 6, 1920 in Parkman, son of Alfred and Alice (Smart) Currier. He served in the US Army during WWII. He worked for many years at the area Woolen Mills and as a woodsman. Later Francis worked as a security guard at the Maplewood poultry plant in Belfast. He was a member of the VFW in Dexter.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Currier of Cambridge; his mother of Dexter; two sons, Michael F. Currier of Morrill and Patrick A. Currier of Cambridge; three daughters Alice Weeks of Cambridge, Lori Dargon of Frankfort and Nick K. Currier of Searsport; a sister, Louella Easler of Parkman; two brothers, Clarence Currier of Dover-Foxcroft and Gregory Currier of Guilford; 13 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 3 pm Thursday May 30th, at the Pingree Center cemetery in Parkman, with Rev. Rick Davis officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

BEATRICE A. CALL
DEXTER - Beatrice A. Call, 90, died May 18, 2002, at a Dexter health care facility. She was born September 6, 1911 in Parkman, daughter of Lester and Inez (Reed) Richards. She worked at the textile mills in Dexter and for the Snow Flake canning plant in Corinna. She also worked at the hospital and in private nursing.

She is survived by a son, George Call of Sangerville, four daughters, Charlotte Garland of Sangerville, Lois Burtt of Dexter, Betty Butler of Corinna, and Carmelita Dickison of Skowhegan; a brother, Kenneth Richards of Dexter; two sisters, Shirley Parkman of Dexter, and Mattie Woodbury of Corinna; 22 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, and 38 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Reuben Call, 2 sons, Robert and Reuben Jr., a daughter-in-law, Melina Call, and a son-in-law, Carl Butler.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday, May 20th, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. William Walters and Rev. Harold Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant cemetery in Dexter.
