MERRILL E. GRAY
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Merrill E. Gray, 72, husband of the late Elizabeth Wright Gray, died May 19, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was born in Bar Harbor, April 29, 1930, the son of Myron and Eleata Elliot Gray. Merrill was retired from Moosehead Mfg. Co.

He will be missed by special friends, Sue and Ted Grant of Dover-Foxcroft, Larry and Ruth Conley of Guilford.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at the family lot in Dover Cemetery, with the Rev. David McLeish officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.

ELEANOR C. PIKE
SANGERVILLE AND ABBOT - Eleanor C. Pike, 79, died March 1, 2002 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born February 19, 1923 in Sterling, Connecticut, daughter of Victor and Alice (Gardiner) Bessette. She worked for many years for Pride Manufacturing Company in Guilford and in recent years attended the Evangelical Free Church in Abbot.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Richard and Penny Pike of Abbot; 3 grandchildren, Suzanne and her husband Gary McEwen of Sangerville, Robert and his wife Kelli Zajechowski of Arkansas; Christopher Pike of Abbot; 3 great grandchildren, Erin-Jo and Jay R. Zajechowski of Arkansas and Eric McEwen of South Carolina. She will also be remembered by her extended family, Mark and Joan Frink of Abbot. She was predeceased by her husband William Pike and a daughter Betty Zajechowski Frink in 1995.

Graveside services will be held Saturday June 1st at 1 PM, at the Abbot Village Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations to the Abbot Evangelical Free Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 131, Abbot, ME 04406. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

ARTHUR D. FOWLES, JR.
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Arthur D. Fowles Jr., 76, beloved husband of Betty (Brawn) Fowles, died May 23, 2002, at his residence. He was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Arthur and Annie (Moen) Fowles. He had been employed by the Maine DOT as an engineer, retiring after 25 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Piscataquis Lodge No. 44 AF & AM, and was active in the Shrine prior to moving to Florida. During the 24 years he lived in Florida, he was instrumental in establishing the highway department for the Marion Oaks Housing Development in Ocala. He returned to Dover-Foxcroft in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty of Dover-Foxcroft; three sons, Russell of Dover-Foxcroft, Richard and his wife, Diana of Monson, Larry of Ocala, Fla.; two daughters, Janna Peters and her husband, Richard of Greenville, Kristen Goddard of Abbot; a brother-in-law, Bill Brawn of Dover-Foxcroft; a sister-in-law, Barbara Pray and her husband, Lawrence of Winthrop; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Masonic memorial services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to MDA-ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), 222 Auburn Street, #102, Portland, ME 04103.

RICHARD D. WARK
DEXTER — Richard D. Wark, 66, died May 29, 2002 at a Bangor hospital. He was born January 7, 1936 at Newport, a son of Herbert and Irene (Fletcher) Wark. Dick, as he was known to family and friends, graduated from Dexter High School, class of 1954. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years throughout the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the United States. He returned to Dexter and was employed by Dexter Shoe Company in Dexter for many years. He later went into business for himself as owner/operator of Wark’s Market in Dexter. After selling his business, he was employed by the State of Maine as a corrections officer at Charleston Correctional Institute in Charleston.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Joyce of Dexter; 2 daughters, Susan and her husband, Jeff Belanger of Garland and Jane and her husband, Richard McKenney of Cumberland; a brother, Gerald and his wife, Virginia Wark of Sangerville; a sister, Donna and her husband, Dean Clukey of Houlton; 4 grandchildren, Hunter, Madison, Dustin and Grace. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers, Herbert Wark, Jr. and Stanley Wark.

Private funeral services will be held Friday, May 31st at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.

NOAH L. SMITH
PLYMOUTH - Noah L. Smith infant son of Gary and Laurie Smith, Plymouth; at Bangor, May 30, 2002. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

EUGENE R. DUNTON
PITTSFIELD - Eugene R. Dunton, 60, died June 2, 2002 at a Pittsfield nursing home after a long illness. He was born November 29, 1941 in Palmyra, son of Herbert and Phyllis (Fletcher) Dunton.

He is survived by a son, Randy Leavitt and his fiancée, Carline McElhill of Hartland; two sisters, Betty Butler of Newport and Carol and her husband, Carroll Leavitt of Newport; a brother, Kenny Dunton of St. Albans. Mr. Dunton was predeceased by his parents of Palmyra.

At his request there will be no services. Burial will be in the Riverside cemetery in Newport. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

NORMA-JEAN MAE BEACH
PARKMAN - Norma-Jean Mae Beach, 21, died June 2, 2002 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Howland. She was born September 12, 1980 in Lewiston, daughter of David and Patricia (Davis) Beach. She graduated from P.C.H.S. class of 1998 and has been working at Foxbrook Variety in Dover-Foxcroft.

She is survived by her parents of Parkman; her daughter, Makayla Mae Smart; maternal grandmother, Norma Davis of Parkman; special friend, Dwayne Smart of Ft. Stewart, Georgia; numerous aunts, uncles and many special friends.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Thurs June 6 at the Lawn cemetery in Guilford. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

RUTH I. COFFIN
SANGERVILLE - Ruth I. Coffin, 75, wife of the late Raymond N. Coffin, died unexpectedly June 1, 2002, at a Bangor hospital. She was born in Dover-Foxcroft, Sept. 4, 1926, the daughter of Harvey and Estelle (Towne) Thompson. Ruth was mostly a homemaker to her seven children, but still found time to sell Avon and Stanley products. She was a Cub Scout leader and a 4-H leader. She volunteered for many community services, including Headstart and Penquis Cap. She also drove those in need, to appointments, work, or wherever they needed to go. Ruth was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Sawyer.

She is survived by one son, Raymond N. Coffin Jr. of Sangerville, who was her primary caregiver through her long battle with cancer; six daughters, Carolyn Pettengill of Guilford, Patricia A. Blanchard and husband, Gray of Waltham, Sharon A. Bubb of Pennsylvania, Katharyn J. Cormier of Lewiston, Deborah L. Coffin of Leeds, Janice L. Drinkwater of Guilford; a very special granddaughter, Tracey Reed of Sangerville; two sisters, Janet Augustino of Port Charlotte, Fla., Jean Brawn of Guilford; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, with the Rev. Ken Dale officiating. Burial will be in Gray Cemetery.

ARLENE M. BATCHELDER
ABBOT - Arlene M. Batchelder, 64, passed on to be with the Lord Jesus, May 31, 2002. Arlene was at home at the time of her passing and was surrounded by loved ones. She was born July 9, 1937, in Newport, daughter of Harold and Gladys Marie (Melvin) Russell. Arlene married Keith A. Batchelder on May 11, 1954.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years; a son and his wife, Keith Philip and Debi Batchelder of Abbot; a foster daughter and her husband, Mary and David Manson of Tenn.; 9 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter; 3 sisters, Beatrice and her husband, Vaughn Pipes of Virginia, Marian and her husband, Edward Labonte of Corinna and Alice Belgrade of Virginia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At her request there will be no public calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 3 PM Sunday June 9, 2002 at the Corinna Village cemetery with Pastor Ray Beless officiating. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

MARGARET L. BADGER
SANGERVILLE - Margaret L. Badger, 88, died June 2, 2002, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born September 10, 1913, in Sangerville, the daughter of Morris and Flora (Steeves) Leighton. Margaret played the piano at the age of 13 for the Methodist Church in Sangerville and continued playing for many years. She graduated from Sangerville High School class of 1931 and then attended the Bangor Maine School of Commerce, now Husson College, where she studied economics, graduating in 1935. She worked for many years for the Guilford Trust Co, now Key Bank in Guilford. Margaret and her husband, of 65 years, Kenneth R. Badger, spent many summers vacationing in Winter Harbor. She was a life member of the OES and attended Grace Bible Church in Sangerville.

She is survived by her husband, of Sangerville.

Graveside services will be held 1 PM Friday at the Elmwood cemetery in Guilford. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

ARNOLD "HAMY" CLINTON HAMILTON
CLINTON - Arnold "Hamy" Clinton Hamilton, Sr., 81, died June 2, 2002 at a Madison nursing home after a long battle with cancer. He was born July 22, 1920 at Middle Greenfield, Carleton County, New Brunswick, Canada the son of Percy and Winnifred (Lunn) Hamilton. His mother died when he was 7 years old. He moved to Albion with his father in 1935, graduating from Besse High School in Albion, Class of 1941. He worked on the family arm with his father until 1946, tested milk for a year, and drove a tractor trailer for St. Johnsbury, Waterville, for 5 years. He drove a milk truck for Woodland Dairy from Skowhegan to Watertown, MA for 7 years and then worked for Fox & Ginn for 21 years. He also worked for Alsko Air Freight and Bart Air Freight, and worked as a part time driver for Redington Funeral Home in Waterville. He was active in sports in school but especially enjoyed baseball. He was an avid gardener and reader and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of the Maine Snowmobile Association, and was recently a member of the Heart of Maine Square Dance Club. He was Past Master of the Albion Grange, and belonged to the Pomona, State and National Granges. He was predeceased by a brother Harry, who died at age 16 in 1942, a brother Burton, who passed away several years ago, and a sister Lillian, who died in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betty J. (Colbath) Hamilton of Clinton; 2 sons, Arnold "Sonny" Jr. and wife Jane of Albion, David and wife Jane (SIC) of Skowhegan; a sister Hildred Antworth of Woodstock, NB, Canada, 5 grandchildren and a great grandson. 7 step-children, Deborah Taylor and husband Roy, Robert Hartford and wife Earlene, all of Dover-Foxcroft; Susan McCormick and husband Michael, James Hartford and wife Lynn, all of Dexter; Lynda Patterson and husband Jerry of Lamoine, Lorna Leighton and husband Dwane of Stetson, and Greg Hartford of Franklin; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He also loved his three cats and they will miss him very much. Hamy will also be sadly missed by long time friends, Pat and Dana Hunter of Hinkley.

Friends may call 10 AM to noon Wednesday, June 5th, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. A graveside funeral service and committal will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Albion. Family and friends are invited to the home of Hamy's son, Sonny and wife Jane in Albion following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Waterville Area Humane Society, 120 Drummond Avenue, Waterville, ME 04901.

JOHN A. SANBORN
DOVER-FOXCROFT and YORK - John A. Sanborn, 78, formerly of Dover-Foxcroft and current resident of York and Ft. Myers, Fla., died June 2, 2002, at a York hospital. He was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Melbourn A. and Edith (Boss) Sanborn. A 1942 graduate from Foxcroft Academy, John served with the US Navy during World War II on P.T. boats in the South Pacific. He was in business with his father and continued the potato and dairy business until 1959. After that, he started the business of Coy and Sanborn gas and oil distributorship with is brother-in-law, Desmond Coy. John was an active member in the Dover-Foxcroft community. He was a Boy Scout leader of Troop 100 in Dover-Foxcroft, in which he took much pride and enjoyment. He served on the Board of Directors of Piscataquis Savings Bank, was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge No. 52 AF & AM, a member of Foxcroft Golf Club. He was also a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite in Bangor, and the Elks Club and the Del Tura Country Club in Ft. Myers, Fla. He enjoyed gardening and his home at Sebec Lake. His greatest joy in life was his family.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlotte (Burgess) Sanborn; three sons, Melbourn A. and his wife, Gloria of Farmington, Michael B. and his wife, Gara of York, and William J. and his wife, Patty of Kennebunk; a granddaughter, Katie of Mt. Vernon, Maine; five grandsons, John and Ryan of Kennebunk, Derek and Jason of York, Thomas and his wife, Gina; and great-granddaughter, Hannah of Ft. Myers, Fla. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret S. Webber and her husband, Ward of Dover-Foxcroft; a brother-in-law, Desmond Coy of Dover-Foxcroft; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, where funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, with the Rev. David McLeish officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Dover Cemetery.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Boy Scout Troop 100, care of Howard Kesseli, 46 Range Rd., Dover-Foxcroft 04426.

AUDRY F. PAGE
SANGERVILLE - Audry F. Page, devoted wife and mother, age 66, died June 4, 2002, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. She was born April 8, 1936, in Athens, daughter of Wilbur and Doris (Pearle) Corson. Audry operated a foster home for adults and children for 27 years until failing health forced her into retirement. She continued to be active in fund raising activities for various charities and organizations. Audry loved her family and friends, gardening, crafts, hunting, fishing and especially Bingo.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Keith Page Jr.; her children, Joey Page, Harland Parker and his wife Rhonda, Kathy Hooper and her husband, Lawrence, Jeannette Cormier and her husband, Harry, and Douglas Page all of Sangerville; brothers, Leroy Corson and his wife Charlene of Atkinson, Linwood Corson and his wife, Louise of Parkman, Leon Corson and Theresa of Hudson; sister-in-law, Joyce Corson of Parkman; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by grandson, Tony Allen; brothers, Lester Corson, Leonard Corson and a sister, Francis Marsh.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held 2:30 Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Adam Tierney officiating. Burial will be in the Village cemetery in Sangerville.

SAVANNAH DAWN WARREN
DEXTER - Savannah Dawn Warren, 17, died June 3, 2002, at a Bangor hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born July 27, 1984, at Dover-Foxcroft, a daughter of Scott and Terri (Murray) Warren. She was a senior at Dexter Regional High School, was active in the Key Club and served very well as its president this past year. She loved volunteering at the Dexter Healthcare Facility. Savannah was excited about her graduation from Dexter Regional High School on Saturday and looked forward to studying communications at Eastern Connecticut State University in the fall. She had made many good friends in Dexter and Connecticut and will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her parents of Dexter; two loving sisters, Jordan Warren of Newport and Rebecca Warren of Dexter; maternal grandfather, Ralph Murray of Greenville; paternal grandmother, Diana Warren of Dexter; great-grandparents, Irene Morin of Greenville, Mary Wheelden of Bangor, Larry and wife, Yvonne Hartford of Dexter and Shirley Warren of Dover-Foxcroft; special aunts and uncles, Melody and husband, Lloyd Erickson and their children, Dustin and Bre, all of Greenville, Kristi Murray of Greenville, Robert Murray of Greenville, Shari and husband, Paul Gregory and their children, Jasmine and Forest, all of Winslow; several great-aunts and great-uncles. She was predeceased by her very special grandmother, Donna "Meme" Murray; and grandfather, Donald Warren.

Friends may call from 4:30-6 p.m. Monday, June 10, at the Dexter Regional High School Gymnasium, where funeral services will be held at 6 p.m., with Pastor Ken Kondratowski officiating. A reception will follow the service in the high school cafeteria. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dexter Key Club Scholarship Fund, care of Dexter Regional High School, 12 Abbott Hill Rd., Dexter, ME 04930. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.
