Malcolm Eugene Gilley

ELLSWORTH - Malcolm Eugene Gilley, 51, of Ellsworth, died April 6, 2000, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He was born March 5, 1949, at Bangor, the son of Earl and Leatrice (Walls) Gilley.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. (Sullivan) Gilley of Ellsworth; a daughter, Katina Gilley of Warwick, R.I.; a son, Edwin Gilley of Presque Isle; two grandchildren, Braham and Jamel of Warwick, R.I.; his mother, Leatrice Gilley of Dedham; four brothers, Milton, Hugh, Earl III, and Emery; a sister, Pollyanna; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Burial will be held at a later date.

Barbara Hodgkins Kudlich

SCARBOROUGH - Barbara Hodgkins Kudlich, 70, of Old Neck Road, Scarborough, died March 8, 2000, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness. She was born in Lamoine, Aug. 1, 1929, a daughter of Thaddeus and Gladys (Norwood) Hodgkins.

She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1947. She was a talented artist and singer. She studied art at Drew University in Madison, N.J., and at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Mass. She sang with the University of Illinois Chorus and with the Masterworks Chorus in New Jersey, led by David Randolph.

She was an accomplished cook and gardener, enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and a joy to those whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed.

Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Robert A. Kudlich; one son, Paul Nathan Kudlich of Northboro, Mass.; one sister, Ena H. Frye of Hancock; one brother, Richard M. Hodgkins of Lamoine; and two grandchildren, Nathan Robert and Morgan Leigh Kudlich of Everett, Wash.

A funeral service will be held March 15, 2000, at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco. There will be a commemorative service in Lamoine later in the spring. Donations may be made in her memory to the Audubon Society of Maine, Gilsland Farm, P.O. Box 6009, Falmouth, ME 04105.

Nancy Jean Garland

FRANKLIN - Nancy Jean Garland, 72, died March 6, 2000, at her home in Franklin, after a long illness. She was born in Sullivan, March 16, 1927, the daughter of Harold and Marion (Billings) Noyes.

She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1946. Nancy was a woman of rare courage. Afflicted with polio at the age of 14, she never let any of life’s adversities affect her irreverent sense of humor, nor her prodigious efforts to help others. Her industrious efforts at sewing and knitting kept her many relatives and friends in an array of socks, mittens and sweaters. An engaging conversationalist, she could keep a lively exchange going with virtually anyone. Diagnosed with scleroderma in midlife, she adjusted in good humor, and remained active despite increasing disability.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Royce Garland; a son, Mark Garland of Southwest Harbor, and a son, James Garland of California. She was predeceased by one daughter, Beth Garland. Nancy has two grandsons, Blake and Ryan Garland of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; one granddaughter, Summit Garland of Southwest Harbor; two sisters, Helen Haskins of Sorrento and Betsy Baker of Brentwood, N.H.; four nephews, Sturgis Haskins, Sorrento, Jeffrey Haskins, Hancock, Peter Baker, Newmarket, N.H., and David Baker, Shrewsbury, Mass.; three nieces, Stephanie Dall, Bangor, Heidi Hooper, Orrington, and Julie Stevens, Brentwood, N.H.; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Bayview cemetery in Franklin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Research Fund Scleroderma Foundation, 89 Newbury St., Suite 201, Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Ellsworth.

Helen L. Mace

ELLSWORTH and HOWLAND - Helen L. Mace, 91, died Feb. 24, 2000, at a Lincoln hospital. born in Ellsworth, Feb. 24, 1909, she was the daughter of Hugh and Annie (Smith) Campbell. Helen was a valued employee in several capacities after her 1927 graduation from Ellsworth High School.

She held bookkeeping or secretarial positions through the years at Liberty National Bank, the law firms of Peter Briola and Blaisdell & Blaisdell, Morrison’s Chevrolet, and Lane Construction Co. Also, she worked at various times at The Verandah, McNally’s, Luchini’s Restaurant and Tracy’s Restaurant, all in Ellsworth. Her final position before retirement in 1974 was as personal secretary to the president of a construction firm in Rochester, N.Y.

After retirement, she lived for several years during the colder months with her daughter and son-in-law, Carmen and Louis Ball of San Diego, Calif., and summered in Maine before returning to Ellsworth to live year-round with her sister, Berla C. Kew, first on School Street, and then for more than a decade at Meadowview Apartments. She and her sister both moved to Cummings Health Care Facility in Howland in May of 1999.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Mace; brothers, Victor and Fred Campbell; sisters, Lucille Grant and Berla C. Kew; a grandson, Louis X. Ball Jr.; a great-grandson, Jason Nicholas Sage; and a close personal friend, Marion Brooks. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Hugh C. and Winona S. Lord of Enfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Carmen L. and Louis X. Ball of San Diego, Calif.; grandsons, Vance W. Lord of Enfield and Mitchell Ball of Palmyra, N.Y.; granddaughters, Valerie Nicholson of West Enfield; Kathryn Ball of Topock, Ariz., and Margaret Contique of Ramona, Calif.; nine great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Helen’s life will be held in the spring at Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Maine Division Inc., 52 Federal St. Brunswick 04011.

Agnes L. Black

BROOKSVILLE - Agnes L. Black, 95, died March 4, 2000, at Island Nursing Home in Deer Isle. She was born Oct. 28, 1904, at Blue Hill, the daughter of Benjamin and Lizzie C. (Douglass) Black.

She grew up in Cape Rosier and attended school in Brooksville, where she lived in later years. She was a member of South Brooksville United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women, as well as Cecelia Rebekah Lodge No. 118.

She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth (Black) Condon, in 1978. She is survived by her special nieces, Beverly Mabee of Blue Hill, Darleen Carlson of South Easton, Mass., Emilie Bergen of Middleboro, Mass.; four grandnephews, one grandniece, three great-grandnieces and seven great-grandnephews.

There will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Healey Funeral Home, South Street, Blue Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Brooksville United Methodist Church, care of Isabel Condon, General Delivery, Brooksville 04617. A graveside memorial service and spring burial will be held with the date to be announced.

John Hawrylycz

SURRY - John Hawrylycz, 73, of Surry and Southington, Conn., died March 11, 2000, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Nov. 15, 1926, in New Britain, Conn., the son of Michael and Anna Hawrylycz.

He attended schools in New Britain and served in the Pacific Theater in the U.S. Navy during World War II. John worked at Colt Firearms in Connecticut until his retirement in 1991 and also did theater and projection work. He was a former business agent of Local 350 IATSE in Meriden, Conn. He was a member of Friendship Lodge No. 33, in Southington, Conn., the Sottish Rite, Sphinx Shrine and the American Legion.

John is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, Michael, and his wife, Amy; daughter, Deborah; grandson, John; two brothers, Richard Havelevitch of Newington, Conn., and Edward Havelevitch of Plainville, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Kathryn Severin and a brother, Joseph Havelevitch.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Interment will be at North Bend Cemetery, Surry. Donations in John’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Maine Affiliate Inc., 10 Bangor St., Suite F, Augusta 04330.

Madolyn C. Grant

MOUNT DESERT - Madolyn C. Grant, 97, died March 21, 2000, at a Bar Harbor health-care facility. She was born Aug. 9, 1902, in Southwest Harbor, the daughter of Charles and Carrie (Farley) Closson.Madolyn was fond of her family and enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening and sewing. She was a member of the Somesville Union Meeting House, UCC, and the Somesville Sewing Circle and a former member of the Bass Harbor Garden Club.

She is survived by one son, James Grant and wife, Kay, of Mount Desert; two daughters, Jane Jackson and husband, Parker, of South Thomaston and Ruth Buchanan of Glenburn; one brother, Ted Closson of Zephyrhills, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Madolyn was predeceased by her husband, Walter D. Grant, in 1984.

Funeral services will be announced later in the spring. Contributions may be made in Madolyn’s memory to the Somesville Union Meeting House, UCC, c/o John MacDuffie, P.O. Box 96, Mount Desert 04660. Arrangements by Fernald Funeral Chapel, Mount Desert.

Iola Mae Grindle

NORTH TURNER and ELLSWORTH - Iola Mae Grindle, 75, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Iola was born May 30, 1924, in Steuben, the daughter of Clarence and Doris (Savoy) Pinkham. Iola loved playing Bingo and cooking. She loved to go out and eat fried clams.

She is survived by one daughter, Diane Stubbs and her husband, Austin, of North Turner; three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Grindle Jr. and Richard Grindle of North Turner, and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mitchell of Ellsworth; three sisters, Hazel Hinckley of Ellsworth, Georgia Frye of Ellsworth, Marilyn Purmenter of Augusta; one brother, William Pinkham of South Carolina; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Grindle Sr., in 1973.

A funeral service was held Feb. 26, 2000, at Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, with the Rev. Robert Crosthwaite officiating. Spring Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth.

Vernal Gordon Charles

GOULDSBORO - Mr. Vernal Gordon Charles, 74, of Gouldsboro, passed away Feb. 29, 2000.

Mr. Charles was co-owner of Reinforced Plastics Boat Co. for 20 years. He was a member of Orient Lodge No. 62 AF & AM, Washington Chapter No. 16 RAM, Blanquefort Commandery No. 13, Anah Temple Shrine, Halcyon Chapter No. 71 OES and Goodrich/Caldwell American Legion Post No. 6. His Masonic affiliations, military service and ham radio were special interests in his life.

He was predeceased by his parents, Willis and Angie Gordon Charles. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Gouldsboro; a son, David and his wife, Sue; grandchildren, Cheri and her husband, Shannon Miles, and Erica and her husband, John Alley; and great-grandson, Donovan, all of Center Star, Ala.; a sister, Coleta Tracy of Norridgewock; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, at the Congregational Church in Milbridge. Interment will be in Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta. Harold W. Lothrop

GOULDSBORO - Harold W. Lothrop, 71, died March 7, 2000, at EMMC following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 7, 1928, in Oakland, the son of Homer and Mildred (Tozier) Lothrop.

Harold was a member of Messalonskee Lodge No. 113 of Oakland, Washington Chapter No. 16 RAM, Blanquefort Commandery No. 13, Anah Temple Shrine, and American Legion Post 207. One of his greatest joys in life was fishing in Alaska. He was co-owner of Reinforced Plastics for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alice (Snyder) Lothrop of Gouldsboro; one son, Willy and his friend, Heather; two daughters, Faye Kelley and her husband, Kevin, Gail Brown and her friend, Dana; four sisters, Rachel, Virginia, Roberta and Priscilla.

At Harold’s request, there will be no formal services. A gathering for friends was held March 14, 2000, at the Hancock Community Center. Sybil Maxine Huckins

MILBRIDGE - Sybil Maxine Huckins, 90, wife of the late Reginald S. Huckins, died at an Ellsworth hospital, March 14, 2000. She was born at West Jonesport, Oct. 16, 1909, the daughter of Warren Manning and Annie Laura (Bent) Norton.

She spent 40 years on Bois Bubert Island with her fisherman husband, "Reg," after their marriage on Nov. 19, 1929, except for the WWII years when Reg was in the Navy. In 1968 she and Reg moved into a trailer overlooking Pigeon Hill Bay and Bois Bubert Island. For several years after the passing of Reg in June 1975, she spent winters with her son in Florida and Maryland. In later years she lived alone in the West Manor Apartments in Milbridge until her death.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. Huckins and wife, Miriam E., of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; three grandchildren, Barry R. Huckins and his friend, Bidda, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Bruce P. Huckins and wife, Brenda, of Colleyville, Texas, Brenda S. Kramarits and husband, Anthony, of Scarboraugh, Ont., Canada; seven great-grandchildren, Tina, Barry Jr., Michael, Brett, Bradie, Mark Jr., and Aaron; a very special nephew, Eugene Huckins and wife, Vonalee, and their daughter, Heidi, all of Milbridge and a daughter, Sheila Dugay and husband, Eddie, of Cherryfield; nieces, Barbara Elkhorn and husband, Eldridge, of York, Carol Andrei and husband, Wayne, of Grosse Pointe, Mich., Dottie of Addison and Paula of Massachusetts; and a nephew, Galen of Harrington. She was predeceased by her husband, Reginald S. Huckins; two brothers, Calvin K. and Alonzo G. Norton, both in 1995.

A private family memorial service will be held at graveside in Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge, later in the summer, at a date to be determined. Josephine L. Shaw

COREA - Josephine L. Shaw, 78, of Corea, died Feb. 26, 2000, at the home of her brother on Staten Island, N.Y. She was born April 24, 1921, the daughter of Michael and Lauretta Socci Juliano.

Jo loved her family and friends, her flowers, and the many birds and chipmunks that came for food. She was an avid gardener and will be remembered for her friendliness and her beautiful flowers.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Marilyn Lane of Boca Raton, Fla.; two daughters and their husbands, Trina and Albert Pulkkinen of Patten, and Melanie and Thomas Mineo of West Hampton, N.Y.; three grandsons, Garth and Shane Pulkkinen and Zenon Mineo; one brother, Pat Juliano of Staten Island, N.Y.; three sisters, Mary Maniscalco of Staten Island and Theresa Doggart and Frances Pellino of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Marie Juliano and Dawn Giuliano of Staten Island, N.Y.; two brothers-in-law, Manual Martinez of Staten Island and Joseph Montalbano; a very special niece and her husband, Renee and Ivan Labarca of Prospect Harbor; very great friends, Natalie and Ray Dunbar of Corea; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and Anthony; and her sisters, Laura, Meg, Benadetta and Annita.

By her request there are no visiting hours. A Mass is being held in New York on Monday, March 6, 2000. Donations to a favorite charity may be made, or a tree or flowers may be planted in her memory. Arrangements by Scamardella Funeral Home on Staten Island.

Doris C. Grant

ELLSWORTH - Doris C. Grant, 84, died at an Ellsworth hospital, March 5, 2000. She was born Sept. 4, 1915, at Cherryfield, the daughter of Guy and Lola (Worcester) Grant. She was a graduate of Cherryfield Academy, Class of 1932.

She is survived by one son, Terry R. Grant and his wife, Peggy, of Baltimore County, Md.; three sisters, Jeannette Harmon and her husband, Howard, of Cherryfield, Beulah Ramsdell of Harrington and Ruth Wyman of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers-in-law, Gerald Morse, Lewis Wyman and Grover Ramsdell.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2000, at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Ellsworth. Interment will be in the spring at the Rockmaple Cemetery, Harrington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church, School Street, Ellsworth or the Hospice of Hancock County, P.O. Box 224, Ellsworth 04605. Arva Gordon

BURLESON, TEXAS - Arva Gordon, wife of Edgar Gordon Jr., formerly of Eastbrook, went home to be with her Saviour March 20, 2000. born Dec. 29, 1917, she died at Burleson, Texas.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord at the age of 13 and spent most of her life serving Him as wife to Ed and mother to their four daughters.

Ed will be moving to an apartment in the Huguley Retirement Complex near the dialysis center in Burleson, where he is a patient. He looks forward to joining Arva in the Lord’s presence.

In the meantime, his four daughters, Belva Gordon and Sandra Mahalica, also of Burleson, Sylvia Woodall of Fort Worth, Texas, Grace Airy of San Diego, Calif., seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many friends will look forward to bringing joy and comfort to Ed.

A graveside service was held March 22, 2000, in Colleyville, Texas.

Elizabeth "Jane" Cooper

ELLSWORTH - Elizabeth "Jane" Cooper, 89, died Feb. 27, 2000, at a Waterville health-care facility. She was born Jan. 3, 1911, in Burlington, Mass., the daughter of William and Cornelia (Ingerson) Winn.

She was a member of the Ellsworth Baptist Temple. She worked for Harris G. Strong Co. for 25 years.

Jane is survived by a daughter, Barbara Workman of Belgrade; one brother, William Winn of Venice, Fla.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Fontaine of Newburg, Ore., David Workman of Belgrade, Dale Workman of Oakland and Daniel Workman of Unity; five great-grandchildren and two boys that she raised, Richard Cooper of Chester, N.H., and Esau Cooper of Auburn.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the Family Bible Church, 460 High St., Ellsworth, with the Rev. Richard A. Rockwell presiding. Spring Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth. Those who desire may make contributions in Jane’s memory to the Family Bible Church, 460 High St., Ellsworth 04605. Hazel C. Rollins

MOUNT DORA, FLA. - Hazel C. Rollins, 75, of Mount Dora, died March 3, 2000. She was born in Camden.

In 1975 Hazel moved to Central Florida from Ellsworth. She was a retired accountant with Charles Gleason Accountants in Ellsworth and a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rockland.

Survivors include two sons, Mark F. Rollins of Mount Dora and Arthur M. Rollins of Ellsworth; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Rose M. (Ward) Rowe

ELLSWORTH and PROSPECT HARBOR - Rose M. (Ward) Rowe, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at an Ellsworth health-care facility. She was born in Vermont, Aug. 10, 1908.

Rose enjoyed tending her flower gardens at her home in Prospect Harbor.

She is survived by a son, Dan Potter of Florida; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Richard Potter, and a daughter, Rose Cowperthwaite.

Graveside memorial services will be held at a date to be announced in the spring by Bragdon-Kelley-Canpbell Funeral Homes, Ellsworth.

Mary (Grindle) Redman

BUCKSPORT - Mary (Grindle) Redman, 82, died unexpectedly in Summerville, S.C., March 5, 2000. She was born Oct. 8. 1917, in Franklin, the daughter of Frank E. and Edith (Orcutt) Grindle.

Mrs. Redman graduated from Bucksport High School, Class of 1936, as well as the University of Maine, Orono. She taught for 28 years in Bucksport and Orland schools. Mary was a member of the Elm Street Congregational Church, the Maine Teachers Association, the Bucksport Historical Society Inc., the Maine Genealogy Association, the Maine Old cemetery Association, and the Buck Memorial Library.

She is survived by two sons, Rodman E. Redman of Bath, Frank E. Redman of North Charleston, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Gloria Dauphinee of Bangor; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; special cousins, Norma and Raymond Dorr of Bucksport; special niece and nephew, William and Victoria Dulong of Bucksport. She was predeceased by her husband, R. Gayland Redman, March 6, 1976.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2000, at the Elm Street Congregational Church, Bucksport, with the Rev. Karla Frost officiating. Interment will be in Silver Lake Cemtery, Bucksport. Donations in her memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 654 State St., Bangor, ME 04401-5649. Robert Clifton Hooper

SEDGWICK and KAUAI, HAWAII - Robert Clifton Hooper, 45, died Feb. 28, 2000, at Wilcox Hospital, Kauai, Hawaii. He was born Oct. 8, 1954, in Boston, Mass., the son of Clifton and Helen (Gillick) Hooper.

He was a graduate of George Stevens Academy, Class of 1972, in Blue Hill, Husson College, Bangor, and Florida International University, Miami, Fla. After graduating from college he worked for National Airlines, Pan American Airlines, The New Pan Am and Northwest Airlines as a flight attendant, purser and instructor, teaching in Yugoslavia for Pan Am as well as Miami and Detroit for Northwest.

Robert is survived by his sisters, Patricia and her husband, Philip Farr, of Brooksville, Pamela and her husband, Stephen Tobey, of Sedgwick; niece, Kelly Sommer and husband, Lee, of Palm Beach, Fla.; nephew, Shawn Duffy and his fiancee, Rose Sargent, of Blue Hill; nephews, Matthew Tobey and his wife, Angela, of Sargentville and Todd Tobey of Sedgwick; six grandnieces and one grandnephew; several cousins and special cousin, S. Janet Williams. He will be sadly missed by special friends, Brian Leceaw of Methuen, Mass., Georgianna Branden of Miami, Fla., Katherine Townsey and Judy Xenor of Kauai, Hawaii, and many friends across the U.S.

There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2000, at the Sargentville Chapel, with the Rev. Donald Crosby officiating. Interment will be at the Rural cemetery in Sedgwick. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Maine Coast Experience Lodge in Brooklin after the service. Bernard R. Young

FRANKLIN - Bernard R. Young, 63, died unexpectedly March 5, 2000, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1937, the son of Eben and Nina (Foss) Young.

Bernard was a graduate of the Ellsworth High School Class of 1955. He worked for Brian Maddocks and for more than nine years at the tannery in Hancock. He was employed for more than 20 years by the telephone company in Ellsworth. He was a member of Lygonia Lodge No. 40 AF & AM. He served the town of Franklin for more than 15 years as fire chief.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Sandra Young of Franklin; his children, Douglas N. Young of Franklin, Deborah S. Young of Hancock and Darrell B. Young and his wife, Angela, and their son, Dustin L. Young, all of Eastbrook; two brothers, Edward Young and Dana Young, and one sister, Sylvia Frost, all of Franklin; three aunts, Geneva LeBlanc of Pleasant Hill, Mo., Marion Dukelow of Fallbrook, Calif., and Phyllis Puppel of Bristol, Conn.; one stepbrother, Irving Wilbur of Waltham; one stepsister, Leslie Randell of Georgia; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth. Interment will be at the Sunnyside Cemetery, Eastbrook. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department, Franklin 04634.

Lolita C. Pratt

TRENTON - Lolita C. Pratt, 68, died March 6, 2000, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born Aug. 13, 1931, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Stanley and Dorothy (Hallowell) Connors.

Lolita, formerly known as "Dynamite," was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and doing crossword puzzles. She was always willing to help people and her door was always open. She also enjoyed the companionship and friendship of Robert and Laureen Leland.

She is survived by four sons, Charles and his friend, Terry Linscott, of Ellsworth, John and his wife, June, of Trenton, Robert Sr. of Ellsworth and Thomas of Ellsworth; two daughters, Dorothy Pratt of Bristol, Vt., and Loretta Young of Southwest Harbor; one brother, Carl Connors of Arkansas and one half-brother, Harold Connors of Ellsworth; one sister, Reene Wood of East Millinocket; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; a special sister-in-law, Eleanor Guthrie of Ellsworth; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, in 1988.

Friends are invited to call 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 10, with Elder William Brehm officiating. Friends who wish may make donations in Lolita's memory to the Ronald McDonald House, 654 State St., Bangor 04401.

Noreen Frances Maynard

ELLSWORTH - Noreen Frances Maynard, 56, died March 4, 2000, at an Ellsworth health-care facility. She was born in Castine, May 18, 1943, the daughter of Albert and Ruby (Gross) Phillips.

Surviving are two daughters, Jane Maynard of Ellsworth, Lisa Stevens of Hampden; a son, Robert Emory of Bangor; two brothers, Alexander and Dale Phillips; a sister, Irene Tufts; a grandson, David Foss; and a special granddaughter, Haley Springer. "We love you." Noreen was predeceased by a sister, Elsie Smith.

A service of remembrance was held March 8, 2000, at the Family Bible Church, Ellsworth, with Pastor Richard Rockwell officiating. Contributions in Noreen's memory may be made to Jane Maynard to help with the funeral expenses. Arrangements by Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
