Mildred Pollard
1998-11-06

Mildred Fund back to help students

Last November 11, one of the dearest friends of The Gray News-and most everybody in Gray-passed away.

Mildred Pollard loved her family, her God, the Town of Gray and The Gray News, pretty much in that order (although the last two were pretty close).

One of her favorite projects for The News had been the paper's annual Christmas Card. For $5, a person, family or business would be listed on the front page as sending greetings to the Town. For a long time, the money raised by the Christmas Card went to help The Gray News survive.

But last year we resolved to honor Mildred's memory by instituting a grant for art students at Gray-New Gloucester High School. With the money we raised, plus a little more put in by The News, two $500 awards were presented to deserving seniors.

Now, this year, we'd like to do the same thing.

So next week you'll find your first opportunity to help honor Mildred, and further the artistic careers of two students at Gray-New Gloucester High School.
