Roy A. Shea

Roy A. Shea, 63, of Fairfield, died Thursday, June 7 at a Waterville hospital.

Born in Damariscotta on February 20, 1938, he was the son of the late Donald and Lucille (Quinnam) Shea. He attended schools in Wiscasset, graduating from Wiscasset High School, Class of 1956.

In 1956, he entered the United States Navy and served as a navigator for DC-3 airplanes. In 1962, he was honorably discharged. While in the service, he attended University of California and the University of Hawaii.

On August 16, 1969, he married Patricia A. King.

For over 30 years, he was employed as a trouble-shooter for the New England Telephone Company, and later NYNEX, retiring in 1992.

Mr. Shea was a volunteer at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Fairfield. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards, working on his model railroad, researching genealogy, and attending Lawrence High School basketball games, especially when his son Mark played.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Patricia A. Shea of Fairfield; one son, Mark Shea and wife Rebecca of Wade; one granddaughter, Hope Shea of Wade; three brothers, Dean Shea and wife Sandra, Charles Shea and wife Faye, all of Wiscasset, and Harry Shea and wife Yang of Springfield, Missouri; one sister, Judy Flanagan and husband Tim of Wiscasset; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were Friday, June 8 at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home in Fairfield. A funeral service was held on Saturday, June 9 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Fairfield, with the Rev. Marcel Dumouli, celebrant. Burial followed at Saint Francis cemetery in Waterville.

Those who wish, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Div., Inc., 52 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME 04011.

Nicole J. Pinkham
2001-12-13

Nicole Jean Pinkham, seven-week- old infant daughter of Tina Stockford and Anthony Pinkham died on Monday, December 3, 2001 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.

She was born on October 10, 2001 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

Survivors include her parents; twin brother, Drew Gerald Pinkham of Boothbay Harbor; brothers, Grant Daniel Giles of Boothbay Harbor, Joshua Pinkham and Mitchell Pinkham, both of Boothbay; sisters, Rebecca Lyn Giles of Boothbay Harbor, Anna and Aleesha Pinkham, both of Boothbay; maternal grandparents, Alvin and Jayne Stockford of Alna; paternal grandparents, Larry and Susan Pinkham of Boothbay; maternal great-grandfather, Gerald Sherman of Wiscasset; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, December 11 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. The Rev. DanaBeth Wells-Goodwin officiated. Interment was at Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, ME 04537 for a headstone monument for Nicole.

Arrangements were by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Richard A. Pipkin
2001-12-20

Richard A. Pipkin, 81, of Whitefield, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at his residence.

Born in Newington, Conn., he was the son of Albert T. and Georgie M. (Webster) Pipkin.

On August 31, 1940 he married Ida M. Wright in Alna and they residedin Connecticut. He was employed by the Connecticut State Parks and Prison for several years. In 1963 they moved to a farmhouse in Whitefield, where he farmed and grew vegetables ever since. He was employed by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department for several years. He also drove a school bus for the town of Whitefield.

Mr. Pipkin enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, making crafts and motorcycling.

He is survived by his wife Ida M. Pipkin of Whitefield; four daughters, Saramae Edgerly of Whitefield, Mr. and Mrs. Keith (Linda) Lank of Bristol, Conn., Mr. & Mrs. Fred (Donna) Wallace of Alna and Mr. and Mrs. Hal (Gail) Thayer of Whitefield; nine grandchildren; Dawn Phillips, Pamela Anderson, Frederick Wallace, Dale Wallace, Alisa Wallace, David Wallace, Patrick Thayer, Tammy Thayer-Hardman, Chuck Thayer; sev-eral nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one grandson, Wayne S. Guenther on April 13, 1987. At Mr. Pipkin's request there will be no Services at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brunswick Farmers Market, P.O. Box 124, Brunswick, 04011.

Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.

Edmund Plezia
2001-03-08

Edmund Plezia, 85, of Brunswick, died Friday, March 2 at Mid Coast Hospital.

Born in Olde Forge, Penn., on June 7, 1915, he was the son of Michael and Louise Plezia and moved to and attended schools in Glen Lyon, Penn.

On June 8, 1980, he married Geraldine Orrill of Brunswick and Stuart, Florida.

During the Second World War, he served in the Pacific Theatre as Radarman aboard the U.S.S. Bennington that was located within 100 miles of Japan when "the bomb that ended the war" was dropped.

Until blindness interfered, Mr. Plezia was an active organist, accomplished artist and avid golfer. He organized and played as a member of two Hawaiian trios, broadcasting their music on radio stations WBRE and WBAX, both of Wilkes Barre, Penn. In addition, he worked as a professional musician at numerous venues on the East Coast of the United States.

Mr. Plezia also worked on the staff of the Pilgrims State Hospital in Bentwood, N.Y. in the Insulin Shock Department, as well as a Propeller Technician for Grumman Aircraft in Stuart, Fla. from which he was retired.

In addition to his professional career, Mr. Plezia had an active and social life, serving as President of the Coral Gables (Fla.) Civic Association; Vice President of the Stuart (Fla.) Mobile Home Gardens Association; member of both the Martin County (Fla.) Golf and Country Club and the Boothbay Region Country Club; Exalted Ruler, and other positions of the Stuart/Jensen (Fla.) Elks Club and was Honorary Life Member of the Brunswick Elks Lodge.

In later years, he enjoyed spending time with his family and extended family in the greater Brunswick area.

Survivors include his wife of Brunswick; his son, David Giles and his wife, Linda of Brunswick; his daughter, Diane Robertson and her husband Rodney of Bowdoinham; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; nephew, Rev. James McGahagan of Wilkes Barre, Penn.; and niece, Barbara Walters of N. Miami, Fla.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 38 years, Dolores, his brother Walter Plezia and sister Helen McGahagan.

Mr. Plezia's wishes were that he be cremated and that there be no funeral. There will be a memorial service this summer at a time yet to be announced. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

Arrangements are by Brackett Funeral Home of Brunswick.

Richard A. Pond
2001-02-22

Richard Allen Pond, 77, of Ocala, Florida and a summer resident of Ocean Point in East Boothbay, died Wednesday, February 14 at the Life Care Center in Ocala.

He was born in Medford, Massachusetts on February 4, 1924.

Mr. Pond served with the United States Army Air Force in World War II and the USAF Reserve. He attended Bentley School of Accounting and Northeastern University. He was employed as an inspector for Atwell, Vogel and Sterling, an insurance company in Boston, Mass.

Always interested in all aspects of flying, Mr. Pond became employed as a reservation agent for Eastern Airlines in Boston and then for Air France as a cargo sales agent in their Boston office. He also worked as a passenger sales agent, an Interim District Manager in Boston, a District Manager in Los Angeles, a Northeast Regional Manager in Boston and a Western Regional Manager in Los Angeles. After serving as Southwest Regional Manager in Houston, Texas, he went back to Boston to organize Jet Vacations, a subsidiary of Air France, from which he retired.

After retiring, he and his wife moved to Oak Run in Ocala, Florida where Mrs. Pond still resides.

For several years, Mr. Pond was a volunteer and on the board of directors of the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, Station 21.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty); a son, Mark and his wife, Cara, of Sterling, Virginia; a daughter, Jeanne Pond-Streets and her husband, Robert, of El Segundo, California; and three granddaughters.

No services were held in Florida. The cremains will be shipped to Maine to be cast at sea off Ocean Point, the Ponds' vacation idyll for over 50 years.

William J. Price
2001-04-19

William J. Price, 72, formerly of Corydon, Indiana, died Wednesday, April 11 at his son's residence in Idaho Spring, Colo.

A native of Boothbay, he was born October 11, 1928 to the late William Henry and Eveline Beatrice Price.

He was retired from the McDonnell Douglas Corporation in Long Beach, Calif., and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include five sons, Ralph E. Price of Idaho Springs, Colo., Paul Price of Riverside, Calif., William J. Price Jr. of Georgetown, Colo., Larry A. Price of Evergreen, Colo., and Gary L. Price of Nevada City, Calif.; two sisters, Marcella Lokpez of Concord, N.H., and Irene Lacomb of Boston, Mass; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Price was predeceased in death by his wife, Dorothy Story Price.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 14 at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Rev. Mark Lindsay officiated. Burial was in the Cedar Hill cemetery in Corydon.

Helen C. Prouty
2001-04-12

Helen C. (Donovan) Prouty, 82, of Oxford, Massachusetts, a retired secretary, died Sunday, April 8 in Lanessa Extended Care Facility, Webster, Mass. after a long illness.

She was born in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of John J. and Agnes T. (Murray) Donovan, and lived most of her life in Oxford. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1936 and Becker Junior College in Worcester.

Mrs. Prouty was a secretary at Oxford High School for 28 years, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of the St. Roch's Church in Oxford and the Oxford Women's Club.

Her husband of 33 years, Harris M. Prouty of Oxford, died in 1975. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Brendan Donovan in 1995 and Richard Donovan in 1975.

She is survived by five sons, John and Daniel Prouty of Charlton, Mass., Thomas M. Prouty of Boothbay, Timothy Prouty of Dudley, Mass. and James Prouty of Harland, Wisconsin; a sister, Ursala Bedard of Oxford, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held April 11 at St. Roch's Church in Oxford. Burial will be in St. Roch's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Helen Prouty Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Webster Five Cent Savings Bank, 393 Main Street, Oxford, MA 01540.

Cynthia B. Pyles
2001-10-04

Cynthia Brewer Pyles, 68, of Texas City, Texas, formerly of Boothbay Harbor, died Monday, October 1, 2001 at Mainland Medical Hospital in Texas City, after a brief illness.

Born in Boothbay Harbor on July 3, 1933, she was the daughter of Norman Sr. and Mary Doyle Brewer.

In 1951 she graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School and moved to Texas in 1957. She worked all her life, retiring in 1995.

Mrs. Pyles enjoyed her family, jig- saw puzzles, shooting darts, and her two dogs.

She was predeceased by her brother, Norman Brewer Jr., and her stepfather, Charles J. Pinkham, both of Boothbay Harbor.

Survivors include her husband, John (Jack) Pyles of Texas City; three sons, Ronald Brewer and his wife Angela of Deer Park, Texas, David Brewer of Houston, Texas and Robert E. Brewer and his wife Sally of Moore, South Carolina; one sister, Florence B. and her husband Steven Hodgdon Sr. of Trevett; two brothers, Robert (Flash) Brewer of Boothbay and Terry O. Brewer of Boothbay Harbor; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held on Tuesday evening, October 2 at Malloy and Son Funeral Home in Texas City. A graveside memorial service will be held in Boothbay at a later date.

Alice M.D. Pratt
2001-05-15

Alice Madeleine Duclos Pratt of Belfast, Me., a columnist for the Republican Journal, died at her home on Dec. 31 after a long battle with cancer. She was 69.

Pratt worked for the Republican Journal for 10 years, writing her column, "From the Inside." She also worked for the Feminist Times as a copy editor.

She leaves her husband, Harris; three sons, Kenneth, Paul and Eugene; three daughters, Priscilla, Kathleen and Dorothy; three sisters and two brothers.
