Earl Page III
2002-06-20

Earl Page III, 47, of Wiscasset died Sunday, June 16, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born October 10, 1954, the son of Earl and Kathryn M. (Crooker) Page Jr. He attended Wiscasset Schools and Wiscasset High School. He was employed at Hunt Lumber Company in Wiscasset and later in Jefferson for over 20 years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Page is survived by his parents of Wiscasset; his wife, Linda C. Page of Wiscasset; two sons, Jody A. Doody of Denver, Colorado and Robert J. Doody of Wiscasset; two sisters, Gail Gorman of Wiscasset and Pamela Delano of Wiscasset; one half sister, Tammy Sharma of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 21, at Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset. Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.

Jeannette M. Paige
2002-03-21

Jeannette May Paige, 70, of Clinton, N.C., died Monday, March 11 at Wake Memorial Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Mrs. Paige was a native of Boothbay and the daughter of the late Theoredore R. and Evelyn Nason Pottle.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Amy Russell of Clinton, N.C.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 14 at Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Jeff Bartlett officiating. Burial followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Richard F. Panek
2002-01-31

Richard F. Panek Sr., 64, of Wiscasset died January 6 at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick after a brief illness.

Mr. Panek is survived by many friends, including Gail Gorman, Jimmy Osmond, Gary and Eliscia Singer, and Maurice and LuAnn Nichols of Wiscasset.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 10 at 2 p.m. at the Southport United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Midcoast Federal Credit Union in care of Gail Gorman.

Kenneth P. Parsons
2002-04-18

Kenneth Phillips Parsons, 79, of Westport, died suddenly April 12 in Stuart, Florida.

Born June 23, 1912 in Providence, R.I., he was the son of Edwin Phillips and Ethel (Logue) Parsons.

As a boy and young man, he summered on Westport Island where he met and ultimately proposed to his wife, Golden. After honeymooning on the island, they lived in Rhode Island and then Norton, Massachusetts where they raised their family. During the intervening years, they regularly returned to Westport, and in 1962, purchased their current property. They became permanent Westport residents in 1978 and wintered in Stuart, Florida.

Mr. Parsons attended public schools in Providence, R.I. and worked as a machinist for Brown & Sharpe Corporation, also in Providence. Before retiring in 1974, he was employed for 25 years by the Metals & Controls Division of Texas Instruments in Attleboro, Mass. as a machinist and automatic screw machine operator.

Mr. Parsons enjoyed gardening, boating and the fellowship of Westport Island.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Golden (Greenleaf) Parsons, of Westport; two sons, Kenneth, Jr. of Mansfield, Mass. and Richard A. of Sanford, Florida; five grandchildren, Kenneth Parsons III of Maplewood, N.J., Susan Farinella of North Falmouth, Mass., Elizabeth Thomas of North Attleboro, Mass., Annemarie Parsons of Sanford, Florida and Richard Parsons, Jr. of Sanford, Florida; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Westport Island on a date to be determined.

The family of Ken Parsons of 17 Parsons Road in Westport will hold a memorial service at 17 Parsons Road on June 22 at 1 p.m.

Robert W. Paterson
2002-08-22

Robert William Paterson, 63, of Simsbury, Conn. and Bayville, died Thursday, August 15 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass.

Born in Newark, N.J. on January 19, 1939, he was the son of the late Archibald and Lila (Stoeckel) Paterson.

Mr. Paterson graduated from Newark Academy (1956) and Princeton University Class of 1960 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Reactor and Propulsion Division under Admiral Hyman Rickover. In 1969 he received a Ph.D. in Fluid Dynamics from Harvard University and began a career at the United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) in East Hartford, Conn. He served in various capacities at UTRC generally in the areas of gas and aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, most recently as Assistant Director of Research for Fluid Mechanics.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Paterson was awarded over a dozen patents, published numerous articles in academic journals and mentored many younger researchers. In 1996 he retired, affording more time for his two primary recreational interests, sailing and tennis. He also continued to consult in his field.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Joyce M. (Pero) Paterson; a son, Robert Jr., and daughter-in-law Kate M. (Swenson) of Portsmouth, N.H.

A private memorial service for family members will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Andrews Hospital, the Boothbay Region YMCA or the Boothbay Region Land Trust.

Carroll E. Pendleton
2002-04-25

Carroll E. Pendleton, 74, of Federal Street, Wiscasset died Saturday, April 20 at his residence.

Born in Wiscasset on October 1, 1927, he was the son of Emery E. and Viola M. (Roberts) Pendleton.

He attended Lincoln Academy. In 1941, he entered the Merchant Marines during World War II and served until 1945. He was employed at Bath Iron Works as a sheet metal apprentice. In 1948 he entered the U.S. Navy and served aboard the Fairfax as a radio operator during the Korean War. He was a self-employed electrician and carpenter in the Bristol area for many years. Mr. Pendleton was employed at local shipyards in East Boothbay and Boothbay. In 1980 he married Kathy M. Gilbert and resided in Alna. He was employed as a draftsman at Bath Iron Works for 16 years, retiring in 1995.

He enjoyed carpentry and boat building.

Mr. Pendleton was a member of the American Legion in Wiscasset and the VFW in Bristol.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy M. Pendleton of Alna; one daughter, Jacqueline Williams of Bremen; three sons, Dennis Pendleton of Newcastle, Cole Pendleton of Alna and Kyle Pendleton of Alna; five grandchildren and three cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28 at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemtery in Wiscasset with military honors.

Harry Elwood Percival, Jr.

Harry Elwood Percival, Jr.

Harry Elwood Percival, Jr., 71, a resident of Cross Road, Alna, died at home on December 29 after a year-long bout with skin cancer.

Mr. Percival was born in Orlando, Florida on July 1, 1930, a son of Harry E. and Dorothy Richards Percival. He lived all his life in Maine and loved the state.

He graduated from Lincoln Academy Class of 1947, attended UM annex in Brunswick fo a year before enlisting in the Army Reserves. He was called to serve with the US Army 77th Engineering Construction Battalion in Germany in 1952. He then taught sixth, seventh and eighth grades at the Frankfurt School in Maine before going up to UMO to get his degree in Electrical Engineerin, Class of 1957. After graduating, he went to Washington, DC to work for the Department of Agriculture in the Rural Electrical Administration. He was then assigned to the position of Field Engineer for Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

In 1959 he married Clarissa Turnbull of South Berwick and they moved to Calais where he was operations engineer for the Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative.

In 1961 he started working for the City of Bangor in charge of generating power to all the municipal buildings, police call boxes, street and traffic lights. 1970 found Harry working at Central Maine Power Co. where he was a distribution engineer for 21 years, retiring in 1991. From 1995 to 2000 he worked for the Maine Coast Railroad as a signal maintainer.

Harry was a licensed Professional Engineer, he did volunteer work for the WW&F Railway Museum in Alna, he was a member of the So. Somerville Baptist Church, Dirigo Lodge in Weeks Mills, Garrison Hill Grange, NRA, Treasurer for the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association for many years, served the Town of Somerville as a school board member, tax collector, treasurer and first selectman, and plumbing inspector.

He was predeceased by his sister Anne and brother Joseph.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, daughter, Mary and husband Greg Luce and children of Radcliff, Ky.; son Harry E. III (Buster) his companion Janet Mclain and their son Jack; son Christopher R. and his wife Angela of Waldoboro; his sister Sylvia and her husband Leland Fitts of Monmouth, Maine and Palm Harbor, Fla.; his sister Frances and her husband George Hutchings of Damariscotta, Maine and Inverness, Fla.; and his sister Ruth and her husband Scott Gilbert of Alna.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to So. Somerville Baptist Church, Somerville, ME 04348 or WW&F Railway Museum, 252 Sheepscot Station, Alna, ME 04535 for the restoration of Engine

At Harry's request, there will be a service January 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dirigo Lodge in Weeks Mills. It is open to the public.

Hazel F. Perkins
2002-04-11

Hazel Frankona Perkins, 93, of Edgecomb, died at Fieldcrest Nursing Home in Waldoboro on April 7, 2002.

Born on December 5, 1908 on Bailey's Island in Harpswell, she was the daughter of Sinnett and Sadie Lord Doughty.

She attended schools on Bailey's Island and in Portland. During World War II she worked as a pike coverer at Bath Iron Works. The wife of Fred (Ted) E. Perkins she was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, crocheting and painting in acrylics. She was very family oriented.

Mrs. Perkins was a member of Lincoln Club and the October Club.

Her husband, Fred (Ted) E. Perkins died on June 11, 1984.

Survivors include one daughter, Skip and son-in-law Austin Lincoln of Edgecomb; one grandson, David Lincoln of Sarasota, Florida; one granddaughter, Pat Nichols of Wiscasset; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

At her request, there will be no funeral service.

Helen E. Pero
2002-02-21

Helen Elizabeth Pero died at the St. Andrews Village on Saturday, February 16, 2001.

Born on January 2, 1919 in Union, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Ruth A. Bradway.

While a member of the Stafford Springs High School Class of 1936 she earned a full four-year scholarship to the Teachers College of Connecticut, New Britain. She earned her degree with the Class of 1940 (now called Central Connecticut State University). She was an elementary school teacher in Lebanon, Conn.

Mrs. Pero lived with her husband and family in the communities of Chelmsford and Westwood, Mass. before moving to Darien, Conn., and Toronto, Canada, in 1967. In 1976 she and her husband retired to East Boothbay.

Mrs. Pero developed an interest in curling and pursued that interest after returning to Darien Conn. She had a life-long interest in community service and was an active member of the East Boothbay United Methodist Church before her illness. She repeatedly served as President of the Women's Church groups in the various towns where she resided, was an active leader in Girl Scouts, PTA and the Baptist Youth Fellowship when her daughters were young.

Her sister, Barbara Wiggin, predeceased her in 1954.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Henry L. Pero of Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Joyce M. Paterson and her husband Robert of Simsbury, Conn. and Bayville and Janice Pero Losick and her husband Richard of Lexington, Mass.; three grandchildren, Robert W. Paterson Jr. of Portsmouth, N.H., Eric Pero Losick of Washington, D.C. and Vicki Pero Losick of Cambridge, Mass.; one brother, Wesley R. Bradway of Union, Conn.; three sisters, Dorothy Metz of Cheshire, Conn., Harriet J. Davies of Ludlow, Mass. and Cynthia E. Cooley of Eastford, Conn.

A graveside service will be held in Staffordville, Conn. in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to: The Helen Elizabeth Bradway Pero Memorial Fund, Congregational Church of Union, Buckley Highway, Union, CT 06076.

Arrangements are under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Nancy L. Greenleaf Perry
2002-07-18

Nancy L. Greenleaf Perry died Friday July 12 in her home in West Boothbay Harbor.

Born October 3, 1931 in Boothbay Harbor, she was the daughter of the late L. Sheldon and Jessie Boston Greenleaf. In 1950 she graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School, and attended the Westbrook Junior College, the graduating class of 1952.

She was employed by the Maine District Court, Sagadahoc County in Bath as the deputy clerk from 1967 until retiring in 1985 due to breast cancer. Mrs. Perry's interests included her love of flowers, birds and gardening, restoring the family home, attending her granddaughter's gymnastics events, spending time with her friends and family. She was especially close to her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Ross Greenleaf.

Survivors include her best friend and companion, Burke Ramsay of West Boothbay Harbor; one daughter,Susan Rae and her husband James A. Hopkinson of Bath; one son, Mark E. Perry and his companion Sara Herbott of Newtown, Pennsylvania; one grandson, David M. Brawn of Bath; one granddaughter, Samantha Rae Brawn of Bath.

A funeral service was held Monday July 15 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Route 27, Boothbay. Interment was held at Oceanview cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Maine Chapter, One Main St. Suite 300 Topsham, Maine 04086; The Kno-Wal-Lin Coastal Family Hospice, 170 Pleasant St., Rockland, Maine 04841 or St. Andrews Hospital Home Health 3 St. Andrews Lane, Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04538.

George A. Perryman II

Omission In Obituary

The list of survivors was mistakenly omitted from the obituary of George A. Perryman II that was printed in last week's newspaper. That paragraph should have read:

Survivors include his sister, Betty Ann Perryman Maynard of East Boothbay; two nephews, J. Douglas Maynard Jr. of Contoocook, N.H. and Perryman K. Maynard of Clayton, Calif.; two nieces, Betsy Maynard Lilley of Fairport, N.Y. and Martha Maynard Brisk of Hollis, N.H..; 12 great nieces and nephews; one great grand-niece; and one great grand-nephew.

Nancy B. Peters
2002-04-04

Nancy Bell (Ludwick) Peters, 72, died Saturday, March 30 at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick.

Born July 13, 1929 in Coatesville, Penn., she attended school and married Robert M. Peters in 1948.

After living in Riviera Beach, Florida for 27 years, they decided to move to Boothbay in 1984 for the birth of their first grandchild.

Mr. Peters died after the birth of twin grandsons in 1992.

Mrs. Peters lived at Harbor View Apartments for the past nine years and loved spending time with the friends she made.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Debora Peters of Boothbay; grandsons, Christopher, Brian and Adam of Boothbay; a brother, George Ludwick of King of Prussia, Penn.; and a sister, Grace Dixon of Westchester, Penn.

Germaine D. Philippon
2002-08-08

Germaine D. Philippon, 92, died at her home in East Boothbay on Saturday, August 3.

Mrs. Phillippon was born August 20, 1910, in the Province of Quebec, to Octave and Derilda Parent Demers. The Demers family immigrated to Waterville in 1912.

A graduate of Lewiston's Mercy Hospital Nursing School, Mrs. Phillippon was for many years a nurse at Hebrou Sanitarium for tuberculosis patients.

On September 19, 1936, she married Gerald L. Phillippon of Lewiston. He died in 1970.

She lived in St. Petersburg, Florida for 27 years, returning to Maine to live near her daughter, Glenn F. Stevens, in East Boothbay.

Survivors include her daughter, Glenn F. Stevens, East Boothbay; and her grandchildren, Melinda A. Stevens, East Boothbay; Abigail G. Stevens, East Boothbay, Octavia H. Stevens, Portland, Georgianna Stevens,
Wellesley, Mass., and Jacob A. Stevens IV, Portland.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home.

Erwin J. Pinkham
2002-01-03

Erwin Jesse "Chick" Pinkham, 86, of Southport died Monday, December 24, 2001 at St. Andrews Hospital after a long illness.

Born November 6, 1915, in Boothbay Harbor, he was the son of William and Geneva Pinkham. He grew up on Spruce Point where his family made their living as fishermen. He would talk of the long nights torching for herring and going to school the next day.

Mr. Pinkham, his brothers, and friends worked loading blocks of ice onto sailing schooners from Gloucester, while on their way to the Grand Banks fishing grounds.

He attended Boothbay Harbor schools and was captain of the baseball and football teams during his high school years. He also worked summers at Ocean Point Inn where he drove a delivery truck for the grocery store so he could attend prep school at Fryeburg Academy before going to Tri State College in Indiana for electrical engineering.

He signed up for the Army Air Corps in February 1941 while still a student at Tri State College. Instructing personnel on procedures to be used in chemical warfare and protective clothing was one of many duties he performed during his enlistment. He sailed to Scotland on the Queen Elizabeth as part of the 758th Chemical Warfare Company. On occasion he would write letters to the local newspaper of his travels through North Africa, Italy, Sicily and other parts of Europe.

After the war, Mr. Pinkham worked for General Electric in Massachusetts and later went back to work for the Merchant Marines before going back to fishing. He also served as first mate and chief engineer on the Rockefellers' yacht and on Malcolm Forbes' yacht. Later he became the caretaker for Mouse Island and continued lobstering.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Pinkham of Southport; two sons, William Pinkham of Southport and Erwin Pinkham, Jr., of Yarmouth; a daughter, Marcy Pinkham of New Hampshire; one sister, Phyllis Murray of Boothbay Harbor; two granddaughters, one grandson and one great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Fishermen's Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 304, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 in Chick Pinkham's name.
