Mary R. Pitcher
2002-12-05

Mary Ruth Pitcher, 80, of Boothbay Harbor died Thursday, November 28 at the Gregory Wing in St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.

Born January 16, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the daughter of Theodore Dighton and Eithel (Dighton) Pennington. She spent most of her life in Boothbay Harbor.

One of her hobbies was to knit gloves and mittens for family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bingo.

Mrs. Pitcher was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace Pitcher; and two brothers, Richard and John Dighton.

Survivors include four sisters, Dorothy Murphy of Warden, Washington, Alice Fletcher and Ella Kinney of Presque Isle and Edna Dillon of McEwen, Tenn.; four brothers, William E. Dighton of Boothbay Harbor, Robert Dighton of Boothbay, Ernest Dighton of South Bristol and Earl Dighton of Wiscasset; one half-sister, Patricia (Pennington) Holmes of Boothbay; and one half-brother, David Pennington of Canton.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, December 3 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

George N. Pooler
2002-01-03

George N. Pooler, 77, of Lowelltown Road, Wiscasset died Thursday, December 27 at Miles Memorial Hospital after a long battle with emphysema.

He was born in Wiscasset May 27, 1924, a son of Edwin S. and Alice M. (Colby) Pooler.

He attended Wiscasset Academy. He worked at Bath Iron Works before enlisting in the US Army Air Corps on November 13, 1942. He served during World War II as a Private First Class until February 1946. He was employed by Central Maine Power as a supervisor at the Mason Station for 35 years. He was a Maine Guide and also painted houses for many years. He wintered in Florida for 18 years. In September of 1995, he married Marjorie Cromwell Bailey.

He was a 50-year member of the Mason Lincoln Lodge #3 and a member of the American Legion Post 54 since 1946 serving many years as treasurer. He enjoyed traveling, vegetable gardening and growing fruit trees at his home where he also raised pheasants for the Wiscasset Rod & Gun Club. For many years, he met with three of his closest friends for breakfast every morning at a local restaurant.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Pooler of Wiscasset; a daughter, Janet Morgan of Hallowell; a son, Edwin S. Pooler and his wife Debra A. of Wiscasset; four stepchildren, Jill Morris of Wiscasset, Jeffrey Bailey of Westport, Debra Speed of Wiscasset and John Bailey, Jr. of Wiscasset; one sister, Dorothy Lewis of Wiscasset; eleven grandchildren, Ryan G. Morgan, Amy M. Pooler, Tia M. Pooler, Tracy Morris, Jason Morris, Erin Bailey, Jessica Bailey, Samantha Speed, Amanda Speed, Ashley Bailey, Krista Bailey and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 5 at 11 a.m. at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset with a Masonic Service and Military Honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 128 Sewall Street, Augusta, ME 04330.

Edwin S. Pooler
2002-04-11

Edwin Stanley Pooler, 49, of Langdon Road, Wiscasset died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at his residence.

Born in Wiscasset on November 4, 1952, he was the son of George N. and Gwendolyn L. (McClintock) Pooler.

He attended Wiscasset schools, graduating from Wiscasset High School in 1971. He went on to attend Beal College.

On December 13, 1974 he married Debra A. Poirier.

Mr. Pooler was employed for the past 25 years in the Test and Evaluation Department in the Division of Engineering at Bath Iron Works.

He loved his family, friends and sports. He was extremely active in local and state athletics. He played softball in various leagues in the area for 25 years and was president of the Wiscasset Coed Softball League for the past five years. He umpired softball for the last four years and was the recipient of this year's prestigious "Umpire of the Year" Award for the Northeast Division of the United States Slow Pitch Softball Association. He was also a referee for football and volleyball for the last three years.

He pursued many other interests including Civil War History, web page design and travel.

Mr. Pooler was a member and a past Master of the Mason Lincoln Lodge #3 in Wiscasset.

He was predeceased by his father, George N. Pooler on December 27, 2001.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Debra A. Pooler; two daughters, Amy Pooler and Tia Pooler; one sister, Janet Morgan; and one nephew Ryan Morgan, all of Wiscasset.

Visiting hours were held Saturday, April 6 at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset. A funeral service, with a Masonic Ceremony, was held Sunday, April 7 at the Wiscasset Community Center, 242 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset with Rev. William E. Inman officiating.

Burial will be in New Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Wiscasset Community Center.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wiscasset Community Center, 242 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset, Maine 04578.

Paul Samuel Poore Sr.
2002-08-01

Paul Samuel Poore Sr. (Sam), 85, of East Boothbay, died on Tuesday, July 20 at St. Andrews Hospital.

Born on September 8, 1916 in East Boothbay, he was the son of Nathaniel and Annie Dodge Poore.

Mr. Poore graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School. He was a heavy machine gunner after entering the service on June 3, 1941. On June 8, 1945, he was honorably discharged and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon.

On June 10, 1951, he married Eileen Mary Jenkins at the Sacred Heart Church in Medford, Massachusetts where they would make their home for two years. He then moved back to East Boothbay where he worked as a commercial fisherman. She died in 1966.

Mr. Poore met Maria Cortes at Ocean Point, married on May 10, 1980, and made their home in East Boothbay. He worked at Goudy and Stevens Shipyard where he retired. He also did a care taking/lawn service in the East Boothbay area.

He enjoyed traveling and bird watching and was an avid fisherman. Mr. Poore was a member of the Bay View Lodge, the VFW and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Maria Cortes Poore; one son, Paul S. Poore Jr. and his wife Jessie of Otisfield; one daughter, Paula P. Doble and her husband Richard of Kingfield, Mass.; one brother, Edward N. Poore of East Boothbay; stepdaughter, Alice G. Murza and her husband Michael of New York; grandchildren, William Tozier of Otisfield, Richard Doble of Machias, Christopher Poore and Nathaniel Poore, both of Otisfield, Timothy Doble, Robyn Doble and Heather Doble, all of Kingfield; and Maria Murza and Donna Murza, both of New York; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 2 at 10 a.m. at the East Boothbay Methodist Church with Rev. Allan Wells-Goodwin officiating.

A burial service will be held on Monday, August 5 at the Maine Veterans cemetery in Augusta.

Donations may be made in memory of Paul S. Poore to the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service or the East Boothbay Methodist Church.

Arrangements were by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Sara E. Potter
2002-01-03

Sara Elizabeth Potter, one month old, died Tuesday, December 18, 2001 at her residence.

She was born in Portland on November 18, 2001, the daughter of Roy Douglas and Karen Marie (Kappler) Potter.

Sara is survived by her parents of Wiscasset; two sisters, Leah Marie Potter and Natalie Jane Potter, both of Wiscasset; maternal grandparents, Peter and Jane Kappler of Whitefield, N.H.; paternal grandparents, John and Marsha Potter of Edgecomb.

A funeral service was held Friday, December 21 at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset. Burial followed in Highland cemetery in Edgecomb.

Sophie C.N. Piechowiak
2002-12-12

Sophie Constance Piechowiak, 89, a resident of Lisbon Falls, died Saturday, December 7 at St. Andrews Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Grafton, Massachusetts October 4, 1913, she was the daughter of Thomas and Sophie Ducharme Napierkowski and attended St. Joseph's school in Webster, Mass.

On July 4, 1934, she married Thomas Piechowiak in Webster, Mass., then moved first to Brunswick and later in 1941 to Lisbon Falls.

Mrs. Piechowiak was employed for most of her life in the textile industry, having worked at Cabot Mill in Brunswick, Worumbo Mill in Lisbon Falls, Edwards Mill in Lewiston and then for Carlton Woolen Mills of Winthrop, retiring in 1979.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, a former member of the Daughters of Isabella Circle, member of the Lisbon Falls Historical Society, all of Lisbon Falls, and the Lisbon Falls and Durham Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Piechowiak enjoyed sewing and was an avid knitter, having knit hundreds of items, many of them full size afghans which she gave to many family members and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and attending activities with them, but her family was what was most important to her and she cherished the times spent with them.

She was predeceased by her husband November 12, 1991.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Connie P.) Tipton of Vacaville, Calif. and Mrs. Norman (Mary P.) Pierce of Boothbay Harbor; one son, Thomas C. Piechowiak and his wife Diana of New Carlisle, Ohio; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, December 11 at Holy Trinity Church in Lisbon Falls.

In lieu of flowers donatons may be made to The Palliative Care Unit, St. Andrews Hospital, 3 St. Andrews Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 or the Green Thumb Gang, c/o Faye Brown, 4 Booker Street, Lisbon Falls, ME 04252.

Arrangements were by Crosman Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Lisbon Falls, 353-491.

Edwin E. Pinson III
1999-11-04

Edwin E. Pinson, III, 68, of Portland, formerly of Edgecomb, died Thursday, October 28 at his residence.

Born in Skowhegan, he was a son of Dorris Soule Pinson and Edwin K. Pinson Jr.

He was a graduate of Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.

Mr. Pinson was employed for many years at Dodge Inn in Edgecomb. After the restaurant closed, he worked at the Dodge Inn Gift Shop for several years, and retired from L.L. Bean in Freeport.

While living in Edgecomb, he was a communicant of St. Philip's Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild.

He was a volunteer at the Wiscasset Public Library and served on the Board of Directors for the Portland Ballet.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. M. Robert (Nancy) Poore of Windham; and two nieces, Holly L. O'Reilly and Heather L. Blake, both of Windham.

There will be no visiting hours. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 6 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Hodge Street, Wiscasset. Arrangements are by Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Wiscasset Public Library, P.O. Box 367, Wiscasset, Maine 04578 or the charity of one's choice.
