Colbert Pinkham
1998-06-11

Colbert Pinkham, 76, of Boothbay Harbor, died February 7 in Ellenton, Florida.

Born on September 24, 1921 in Boothbay Harbor, he was the son of Charles and Mary Pinkham.

Mr. Pinkham served in the Army during World War II, in communications in India, Burma and China.

He was a part-time lobster fisherman and he retired from Central Maine Power Company as a line foreman.

After his retirement, Mr. Pinkham moved to Florida winters, but always returned to Boothbay Harbor to spend his summers.

He is predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Marion Pinkham.

Survivors include a step-son, Richard Tibbetts of Florida; and a sister, Agnes Peterson of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 13, at Oaklawn Cemetery, Boothbay Harbor.

Arrangements are by Simmons & Harrington Funeral Home, Boothbay Harbor.

Donna Lee Peaco
2001-05-04

Donna Lee Peaco, 50, of New Gloucester, died April 20.

She was born in Gray, the daughter of Leslie, Sr., and Mavis Peaco, and graduated from Gray-New Gloucester High School and Andover College.

She served in the Army from 1969 until 1971, and worked for many years as a legal secretary at Perkins, Thompkins, Hinckley and Keddy.

She is survived by her daughter, Christine Mathews. a son, Michael Denny. her mother, Mavis Peaco. two sisters, Cheryl Vickerson, of South Carolina, and Diane Peaco, of New Gloucester. three brothers, Leslie Peaco, Jr., of Poland Spring, and Larry and Wesley Peaco, both of New Gloucester. and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were private. Arrangements were by Wilson Funeral Home.

Cora M. Packard

Cora M. Packard, 87, of Southport died March 28 in Boothbay Harbor.

She was born February 23, 1916 in Steuben, the daughter of Melvin and Minnie Gott Fleet.

She grew up in Steuben and attended school in Gouldsboro. She lived in the Prospect Harbor Lighthouse with her grandparents, Mary and William Gott, until she was fifteen years old. Her mother passed away at childbirth. She began her work life at the age of 12 packing sardines.

At fifteen she left home to attend Boston Nursing School in Boston, Mass. She worked as a registered nurse at Massachusetts General for many years. She also did work as a private duty nurse.

She resided for many years on Beacon Hill in Boston and in East Boston. She loved to spend her summers in Southport. In 1967, her husband, Ralph, died and that same year she moved to Southport where she worked as a private duty nurse in the Boothbay region and the Gray Colony on Southport for over 20 years. She was very caring and took care of many people without pay.

She was a member of the Southport United Methodist Church and the White Street Baptist Church in East Boston.

She loved to play bingo, go ice-skating, dancing, rowing her boat and traveling.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph E. Packard, and her brother, Elmer Fleet.

She is survived by her two daughters, Verna Lewis and her husband Duane of Southport and Maude Wright and her husband Greg of Boothbay and Yarmouth; five grandchildren, Kelly Majewski of Massachusetts, Adam Giles and his wife Jamie of Topsham, Jessica Wright and Cori Wright of Boothbay and Yarmouth and Maurie Lewis of Southport; and one great-grandchild, Isabella Majewski of Massachusetts.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, April 2 at the Southport United Methodist Church. The Rev. DanaBeth Wells-Goodwin officiated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southport United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 143, Southport, ME 04576 or Gregory Wing, 145 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. Arrangements are under the care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Richard B. Paige
2003-04-24

Richard Bowditch Paige, direct descendent of author and navigational guide Nathaniel Bowditch, died unexpectedly Monday, April 14, near his home in Pittston. born on December 30, 1930 in Boston, he lived in Lincoln with his wife and four children for many years, before moving to Maine in 1976.

Over a banking career that spanned 30 years, Mr. Paige worked as Sr. Vice President, Suffolk-Franklin Savings Bank in Boston from 1961 to 1973 and was President of Milton Savings Bank, Milton, Mass. from 1973 to 1976. After moving to Maine in 1976, he became President of Brunswick Savings Institution, and President, Chairman and CEO of Coastal Savings Bank. Since retirement in 1990, Mr. Paige and his wife have raised sheep in Pittston.

Mr. Paige attended Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Brown University, Harvard School of Business and various management schools. He served as a Medical Technician in the United States Army from 1952-53.

He was an avid fisherman who, along with his wife, Lisa, traveled often to Central America to catch bonefish and explore the ruins of the Maya.

He kept a copy of his great-great grandfather Nathaniel Bowditch's book "A Practical Navigator" on his bookshelf at all times.

Mr. Paige began work at the family woolen mill, Seabright Woven Felt Co., in Camden. Among his many affiliations during his career were Trustee of Maine Audubon Society; Director, New England Solar Energy Commission; Trustee, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences; Vice-chairman, Time and Tide RC&D; Treasurer, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences Foundation; Director, Cape Shore Paper Co., Navy League; United Way; Bowdoin College Energy Committee, Chairman, Saving Banks Association of Maine. His most recent and favorite involvement was with the Morris Farm Trust, a non-profit environmental education center and organic farm in Wiscasset, where Mr. Paige was Treasurer, trustee and active volunteer.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Elisabeth "Lisa" (Jenney), originally of Lincoln; four sons, Richard Jr.; Stephen and his wife, Susann; Charles "Todd" and his wife, Julia; Nathaniel "Sandy" and his wife Ann; six grandchildren, all from Maine; one sister, Barbara Paige Jackson, of Marblehead, Mass.; one brother, Donald Paige, of Boston; and a number of nieces and nephews.

At the request of Mr. Paige, there will no funeral services, rather a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Morris Farm Trust, P.O. Box 136, Wiscasset, ME 04578.

Arrangements are by Direct Cremation of Maine of Belfast.

Claire L. Papineau
2003-11-13

Claire L. Papineau, 66, of Key Largo, Fla., died Tuesday, October 21.

For 15 years, she was a resident of Boothbay Harbor, and for the last 20 years lived in the Florida Keys.

Mrs. Papineau was much loved and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Al; children, Kenneth Papineau and his wife Susan LaBlanc, of Islamorda, Fla., Patricia and (Stephen) Gottlieb of Boothbay, and John Papineau of Washington, Maine; grandchildren, Brian and Nathan Papineau, and Benjamin and Kathryn Gottlieb.

Morgan Pease, 19
2003-12-12

Morgan Pease, 19, of Clearfield, Utah, died Sunday evening, November 23, in an automobile incident. Morgan was the daughter of Toby and Terri Pease, sister of Joshua Pease. Toby graduated from Gray-New Gloucester High School in 1978.

Morgan was attending Weber State University on a four year academic scholarship. She was a talented, aspiring actress, singer, model and writer with plans to continue her education at Juilliard in New York. She starred in many productions and was chosen to be part of an acting team which performed in Las Vegas. Her poetry was one of only 30 pieces of work chosen worldwide to be published on Poetry.com. She was an amazing, creative spirit who loved and was loved by so many.

Morgan was born in Florida on February 25, 1984, and traveled with her family through the military. She lived in Germany, Japan, Italy and Utah, always embracing and learning all she could about the culture around her. She spoke Japanese and became fluent in Italian. Although she was not allowed many years on this earth, she lived her life completely.

Morgan leaves behind her parents, brother, Great-Grandmother Beverly Ifemey of Cushing, Grandmother Jane Pease of Gray, Grandfather Earle Pease and his wife Beverly Pease of Wayne, Grandmother and Grandfather James and Molly Sanders of Welaka, Florida, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Morgan's loss is so deeply felt by her devoted parents who were constantly proud of her, her brother who was more a of a best friend and everyone who was lucky enough to have been touched by her.

David H. Perkins
2003-07-31

David H. Perkins, 43, of Bath, died Sunday, July 13 at his home.

Born in Fort Wayne, Ind. Nov. 6, 1959, he was a son of Helene and Edwin Perkins. He graduated from Niscayuna High School in Schenectady, N.Y. and held a bachelor's degree from Principia College.

Mr. Perkins was an active member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Brunswick.

Survivors include his wife, Suzette L. Perkins; a son, Holt; a daughter, Mercedes; his mother, Helene Perkins of Needham, Mass.; two sisters, Pam and Diane of North Potomac, Md. and Sudbury, Mass.; and mother-in-law, Patricia Le Van of Bath.

A memorial service celebrating his life and work will be held at a later date.

Marjorie Y. Perkins
2003-01-09

Marjorie York Perkins, 75, died unexpectedly at her home January 6.

Born November 1, 1927 in Nobleboro, she was the daughter of R. Herbert and Geneiva M. York.

In 1945 she graduated from Lincoln Academy and soon after went to work for Damariscotta dentist Dr. Nevens.

On June 1, 1951, she was married Robert L. Perkins in Boothbay Harbor. Mrs. Perkins was a homemaker raising three children and she also worked in her home as a seamstress. In the early 1970s, she began a business called Margie's Yarns, and later she bought Harmony Hill Yarns, which she ran until her retirement.

She was an active member of the Boothbay Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Robert L. Perkins of Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Cynthia P. Brown and her husband Sereno of Trevett; Susan P. Begin and her husband Raymond of Auburn; one son, Russell L. Perkins and his wife Andrea of Wiscasset; her brother, Capt. Robert York of Galveston, Texas; and six grandsons.

Visiting hours were held Wednesday, January 8 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 9 at the Boothbay Baptist Church in Boothbay. The Rev. Dan McNutt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oceanview Cemetery, Boothbay.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marjorie's name to the Boothbay Baptist Church, P.O. Box 64, Boothbay, Maine 04537.

Services are under the care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Kathryn Perkins
2003-10-30

Kathryn Perkins, 89, a resident of South Portland for more than 40 years, died Sunday, October 26 in South Portland following a brief illness.

Born in Wiscasset, she was a daughter of Foster and Kate Grove Perkins. Ms. Perkins graduated from Wiscasset High School.During World War II, Ms Perkins served the United States Navy stationed in the state of Washington. After returning from service, she attended business school and was employed by Hood Dairy and A & P grocery stores. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of South Portland.

She was predeceased by a sister, Frances Perkins Day, and two brothers, E. Clinton Perkins and Harold Perkins.

Survivors include four nieces, Sherrill Somes Westfall of Wiscasset, Mary Gordon Perkins of Sun City Center, Fla., widow of William Foster Perkins, Sally Perkins Morris of Carlisle, Pa., and Vicki Perkins Hawkins of Allen, Tx.;and a nephew, John Harold Perkins of Hobe Sound, Fla.

A graveside service will be held in May in Wiscasset. Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, Yarmouth.

Henry Leland Pero
2003-12-04

Henry Leland Pero died Sunday, November 30 at the Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Mass.

Born November 18, 1917 in Monson, Mass., he was the son of the late Henry G. Pero and Edna M. Goodell Pero.

In 1936 he graduated from Rockville, Connecticut high school. He married the late Helen E. Bradway, his high school sweetheart on October 5, 1940, and graduated from Lowell Textile Institute (now U. Mass. Lowell) with a B.T.E. in June 1941. He worked for Warren Woolen Co. in Stafford Springs, Conn. until March 1942 when he joined the staff at Lowell Textile Institute in Lowell, Mass where he taught until 1951.

While at Lowell he worked on many projects for a number of companies such as Dupont, Cyanamid, Monsanto and Union Carbide. In 1951 he joined Union Carbide as a New England Technical Representative and retired from Union Carbide in March 1978 as General Marketing Manager located in New York City.

Mr. Pero was a devoted husband and father and lived with his wife and family in communities of Chelmsford and Westwood, Mass., and Darien, Conn., and Toronto, Canada, before retiring in 1976 with his wife to East Boothbay.

He had a life-long interest in boating and woodwork.

Survivors include his two daughters, Joyce M. Paterson of Simsbury, Conn. and Bayville, and Janice Pero Losick and her husband Richard of Lexington, Mass.; and three grandchildren, Robert W. Paterson Jr. and his wife Kate of Portsmouth, N.H., Eric Pero Losick of Arlington, Va., and Vicki Pero Losick of Boston, Mass.

A graveside service will be held in Staffordville, Conn. on Saturday, December 6 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Henry Leland Pero Memorial Fund, Congregational Church of Union, Buckley Highway, Union, CT 06076.
