Lucille E. Palino
2004-02-05

Lucille E. Palino, 76, died Tuesday, January 27 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

Born in Bremen October 13, 1927, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Alvada (Carter) Prior. She attended school in Bremen.

On April 17, 1946 she married Joseph Palino. During their marriage they resided in Bremen, Sheepscot, Damariscotta, Newcastle and Port Charlotte, Fla.

Mrs. Palino was a devoted homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening. She was also a member of the Boothbay Region YMCA. She will be remembered for her warm gentle heart.

She was predeceased by husband Joseph in 1995 and grandson Aaron Sewall in 1998, and a brother Floyd Carter.

Surviving are two sons, Teddy and wife Bridget of Leesburg, Fla., and son, Paul and wife Lurie of Bristol; two daughters, Joanne Sewall and husband Fred of Damariscotta, and a daughter, Maria McLain of Newcastle; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Young and Pauline Studley, both of Brunswick; one brother, Kenneth Prior of Medomak; a sister-in-law, Marie Dee of Medomak; a brother-in-law, Joseph Grieco of Dorchester, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Strong Funeral Home and Memorial Center in Damariscotta.

Donations in her memory may be made to the American Breast Cancer Society or Miles Memorial Hospital.

Aubrey A. Peaslee
2004-05-27

Aubrey A. "Big Aub" Peaslee, 71, a resident of Boothbay, died Thursday, May 20 at his residence after a long illness.

Born Nov. 29, 1932 in Somerville, he was a son of Guy F. and Leola E. Benner Peaslee. At age 15, with the sudden death of his father, he left school to help his mother raise his 13 siblings. He worked in the Somerville area as a lumberjack for six years.

He married Sandra M. Capen on Nov. 30, 1954. In 1955, they moved to Boothbay, and he began digging marine worms. He opened his own worm dealership, which they operated together until 1974, when they started a wholesale/retail seafood business out of the basement of their home in Boothbay. Retiring in 1994, he continued to assist his daughter in running the business until 2002 when his health forced him to stop.

Mr. Peaslee is life member in the Boothbay Region Fish and Game Club, where he was an active member, and was known as a hard working, family oriented man, enjoyed gardening, and lived to hunt and fish.

He was predeceased by brothers, Harold, Forest, Richard and sister, Frances.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sandra M. Capen Peaslee; one son, Thomas Peaslee and wife, Lorna; four daughters, Brenda Blackman and husband, Leon, Beth Hardwick and husband, Wayne, Bonnie Erskine and husband, Thomas, Laurie Bailey and husband, Mark, all of Boothbay; six brothers, Robert of Readfield, Douglas of Jefferson, Fred of Wiscasset, Guy Jr.and Freeman, both of Boothbay, and Lawrence of Edgecomb; three sisters Evelyn Colby of Augusta, Myra Cook of Tallahassee, Fla., Marion Wright of Wiscasset; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grand- children; and father figure to Ray Page and wife, Shirley, Stanley Page and wife, Sandra, Henry Page and wife, Nylene.

A funeral service was held Monday, May 24 at the Boothbay Baptist Church in Boothbay, with Interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Miles Home Health/Hospice, Miles Development Office, 35 Miles Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543, or to the Boothbay Region Fish & Game Club, c/o Dabney Lewis, 9 Lewis Lane, Boothbay, ME 04537, in Mr. Peaslee's memory.

Arrangements were entrusted to Simmons Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Mary Della Peck
2004-02-19

Mary Della (Rogers) Peck, 55, of Milton, Mass. and Boothbay Harbor, formerly of Wallingford, Conn., died Sunday, February 15.

She was born in Worcester, Mass, graduated from Lyman Hall in Wallingford, Conn. and was a graduate of Barrington College in Barrington, R.I.

She served as President for the National Organization of Women and active in domestic violence counseling at shelters in Tallahassee, Fla., Elyria, Ohio and Carlisle, Pa.

Most recently, Mrs. Peck was a paralegal at Davis, Malm and D'Agostine, PC of Boston.

She volunteered at the Milton Hospital and Pierce Middle School in Milton, and worked at the Milton Academy bookstore.

Survivors include her husband, David A. Peck; two daughters, Rachel Peck of Santa Fe, N.M. and Morgen Peck of New York, N.Y.; three sisters, Lura Tomkus and Hannah Desorbo, both of Maine, and Donna Bupphaues of Pepperell, Mass.; a brother, Bruce Rogers of Connecticut.

A memorial service celebrating Mrs. Peck's life will be held at Straus Hall, Milton Academy, Milton, Mass. On Saturday, February 21 at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends invited.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Peck's memory to Heifer Project International, P.O. Box 8058, Little Rock, AR 72203.

Julius Petrovic
2004-05-27

Julius Petrovic, 60, a resident of Bretton Woods, N.H., died May 17 in Yarmouth

Mr. Petrovic was born April 22, 1944 in Czechoslovakia.

He received his education while in Europe. While living there, he was a well known radio personality. He spoke seven languages. In 1968, he came to the United States.

Mr. Petrovic loved to work with the public, working at the Mount Washington Hotel; The Stonehurst in North Conway, N.H.; Island Inn in Sanibel, Florida; and Chatham Bars Inn, Chatham, Mass., on Cape Cod. For the last 13 years was a Maitre d' at the Spruce Point Inn, Boothbay Harbor

Survivors include two sisters, both living in Slovakia.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 30 at 3 p.m., at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Boothbay Harbor.

Ivan A. Philbrook
2004-05-20

Ivan Austin Philbrook, 91, of East Boothbay passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 12.

Born on December 30, 1912 on Matincus Island, he was the son of Leroy M. and Flora E. Ames Philbrook. He grew up on Matincus Island and was a lobsterman for many years.

During World War II he worked at B.I.W as a welder. After WW II, he returned to lobstering, later moving to Florida for eight years. He then worked in Newport News, Virginia for two years as a welder. He returned to Maine and worked at Fuller Shipyard, Goudy and Stevens and Paul Luke Boatyard, all in East Boothbay. He started his own flagpole business in 1980 and ran it until 2003.

His wife, Naida, died in 1979. He later married Jean Lunney Salter.

Mr. Philbrook was a member of the Bayview Lodge #196, Solar Lodge #14 in Bath, and Past Patron of Crescent Chapter #54 O.E.S. He was very active with the Chapter and the Masons.

His chief interests were his family, going to Myrtle Beach and flagpoles.

Survived by his wife of 23 years, Jean Lunney Salter Philbrook of East Boothbay; two sons, Leroy Philbrook and his wife, Louise W. of Thomaston, and David Ivan and his wife, Sandy, of Naples; one daughter, Sandra L. Dickinson of Charlestown, N.H.; 12 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grand-children; one brother, Vernon L. Philbrook, of Yarmouth; special cousin, Vonnie Ames, of Camden; nephew, nieces and cousins.

Visiting hours were held with a Masonic service Monday, May 17, and a funeral service was held Tuesday, May 18 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Stanley W. Pierce
2004-01-08

Stanley Wilson Pierce, 74, died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Togus Veterans Hospital after a short illness.

Stanley was born September 15, 1929, in Boothbay Harbor, a son of Hardie W. and Velma Brown Pierce.

He graduated from the Boothbay Harbor High School in 1948. He was a Veteran of the Korean War.

Stanley enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping and was an avid birder and cribbage player. He once was a registered Maine Guide.

He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Hardie Pierce, a nephew, Hardie Pierce III, and a life-long friend, Gerry Lewis.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Lorenzo Pierce, of Presque Isle; three stepchildren, Tina Lorenzo of Mars Hill, and Robbie and Toby Lorenzo; three sisters, Mona and husband, Harlan Magee of Topeka, Kan., Regina and husband, David Newall of Maiden, N.C., Carol and husband, Henry Abbott, of Boothbay Harbor; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Pierce Pires of Kingston, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

Stanley will be missed by many friends and family and neighbors, too numerous to name.

A Celebration of his life will be held in the spring at Howe Brook at a time to be announced.

Contributions in Stan's memory may be made to the Lincoln Country Animal Shelter, Atlantic Highway Edgecomb, ME 04556.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home 975 Wiscasset Rd. Boothbay, Maine.

Rebekah J. Page
2004-12-16

Rebekah J. Page, 94, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 11th at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth.

Born October 15, 1910 in Sandown, New Hampshire, she was a daughter of Miland and Caroline Robinson Young. For most of her young life she lived in Epping, N.H.

When she married Leon Page, she moved to Exeter, N.H. They were married for just short of 50 years due to his death in 1983.

After World War II they moved to Augusta where they operated the Pineland Diner for 25 years. She later worked for the CAP Program as director of Social Activities.

Mrs. Page was an avid golfer all of her life and played golf until she was 88 years old. She was a member of Western View Golf Club.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leon; and three brothers, Roland, Karl and Richard Young.

Survivors include a daughter, Penelope McLaughlin and her husband D. Vincent McLaughlin of Sawyers Island, Boothbay with whom she made her home for 14 years; two granddaughters, Meagan Cadorette and her husband Rick of Portland, and Mallory Libby and her husband Tiant of Dover, Delaware; five great-grandchildren, Caroline Cadorette of Portland, and Olivia, Malachai, Julia and Josiah Libby, all of Dover, Delaware

A celebration in honor of her life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, December 17 at her daughter's home at 34 Arrowhead Road, Sawyers Island, Boothbay.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.

Arrangements are under the care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Mildred V. Potts
2004-09-23

Mildred V. "Millie" Potts, 93, died September 13, 2004, in San Antonio, Texas. She was formerly of Rochester, New York, and had been a summer resident on the Isle of Springs since 1957.

The daughter of Anton and Huldah Rickey Marotte, she was their second child, born April 28, 1911 in Nampa, Idaho. The family subsequently relocated to the Decatur, Illinois area, where Millie and her two sisters attended school, and where she met and married E. Harold "Hal" Potts in 1935.

Mr. Potts was a career researcher and technical representative for industrial film applications for the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York. Millie was best known for her oil paintings and her marvelous sense of humor. Their son Michael Spencer Potts was born in 1949.

The family first came to Maine in 1954, vacationing for short periods that year and each of the following two years at Linekin Bay Camp. In 1957 the family purchased a cottage on the Isle of Springs.

Mildred Potts was predeceased by her husband, Hal, in 1974. She moved to San Antonio to be near Michael and his wife Marilyn, in 2001. She is also survived by her nephew, Jim Mitchell, and his wife Sarah, of Lake Tahoe, Calif., and her niece Tammy and her husband, Joe Jaudon, as well as Tammy's children Heather Turner, Holly and Michael McConnell, and Tony Turner, all of Denver, Colo.

A memorial service will be held on the Isle of Springs next summer.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established with the Isle of Springs Association, 21 Wildwood Circle, Portland, Maine 04103.

Virginia G. Pearce
2004-10-21

Virginia G. Pearce, 77, of Boothbay Harbor, died Friday, October 15 at St. Andrews Hospital.

Born on November 11, 1926, she was the daughter of William and Grace (Pinkham) Durfee.

She grew up here and attended local schools. During the 1950s and 1960s, she worked at the Boothbay Region Fish and Cold Storage.

She was predeceased by two sons, Danny Pearce in January of 1973, and Shawn Pearce in July 2000. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence Durfee and (Pop) George Durfee.

Survivors include three sons, Brady Pearce of Boothbay, Randy Pearce of Gardiner and Kim Pearce of Konzebeau, Alaska; six grandsons, Jason and Joshua Pearce, both of Boothbay, Aaron Pearce of East Boothbay, Brian Pearce of Westport and Danny and Shannon Peace; two great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.

Internment will be at Evergreen cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Fishermen's Memorial Fund.
