Mabel B. Rebol
2000-07-06

Mabel Bergita Rebol, 84, died Tuesday, July 4 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.

Born November 5, 1915 in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Charles J. and Martha Ganse Berge. She grew up and attended local schools in Cleveland, Ohio.

Mrs. Rebol married Edward M. Rebol and they lived in the Cleveland area until the late 1960s.

She was a registered nurse in several hospitals in the Cleveland area and retired to North Carolina and Florida. Two years ago she moved to Southport to live with her daughter.

Mrs. Rebol was an avid golfer and bridge player, and won many club championships playing golf.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward M. Rebol who died in 1991.

Survivors include her daughter, Carole and her husband Magnus Magnusson of Southport; one brother, Carl Berge of Willoughby, Ohio; two granddaughters, Christina and her husband Tim Krause of Fox Point, Wisconsin, and Lisa and her husband Bill Hompe of Wayne, Penn.; six great-grandchildren; and one niece.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to St. Andrews Hospital, 3 St. Andrews Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. Arrangements are under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Bradley G. Ranta
2000-07-13

Bradley G. Ranta, 61, of Wiscasset, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, July 8 at Miles Memorial Hospital.

Born July 23, 1938 in Marblehead, Mass., he was a son of John and Barbara (Brown) Ranta.

He was graduated from St. John's Prep School in Danvers, Mass. Later he graduated fro Mass. College of Pharmacy in Boston with his degree in pharmacology.

Mr. Ranta entered the U.S. Army serving as a pharmacist in Germany between 1961 and 1964. Following his discharge he worked as a pharmacist at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston and on January 23, 1966 married Anna Lombara.

Following their marriage, the couple came to Maine and for several years Mr. Ranta was a pharmacist at the USVA Hospital in Togus. He later purchased Whitefield's Drug Store in Wiscasset and along with his wife, since 1985, owned and operated the Woolwich Dairy Queen.

Survivors include his wife Anna of Wiscasset; two children, Richard Ranta of Alna, and Ruth Becker of So. Elgin, Illinois; two sisters, Jacqueline Ranta of Lynn, Mass., and Janice Henry of Bedford, N.H.; and one grandson.

A service of celebration was held Tuesday, July 11 at the Chapel of the Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta, with Rick Newell officiating. Interment followed in Wiscasset.

Donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Children's Miracle Network, c/o Barbara Bush Wing, Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Robert W. Reynolds
2000-09-21

Robert W. "Bobby" Reynolds, 15, died Wednesday, September 13, at his home in Newcastle.

Born November 20, 1984, in Lowell, Massachusetts, he came to Maine to live with his grandfather at the age of 1.

Attending local schools, Bobby was a member of the sophomore class at Lincoln Academy. He loved basketball and tennis while there, but was most proud of his achievements in the school band.

Survivors include his grandfather, Phillip L. Reynolds; his sister, Michelle Reynolds; and a host of friends in his community.

Bobby was laid to rest, with a graveside service, on Saturday, September 16 at the Pine Hill Cemetery, 35 So. Pine Street, Dover, New Hampshire.

Arrangements were under the care of the Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta.

Barbara V. Russell
2000-10-05

Barbara V. Russell, 77, of Boothbay, died Wednesday, September 27, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

Born April 19, 1923 in Boothbay Harbor, she was the daughter of Parker and Carrie Bennett Brewer.

Mrs. Russell grew up and attended local schools. She lived in Boothbay Harbor all of her life and was a homemaker. She enjoyed bird watching from her rocking chair and especially loved watching the Cardinals.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin F. Russell, who died January 24, 1994.

Survivors include one son, Richard Lewis McMahan Sr. of Griswold, Conn.; one daughter, Linda De Long of Whitefield; three sisters, Anne Cleland of Boothbay, Frances Abbott of Boothbay Harbor, and Nancy Long of Florida; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A private burial will be held at the Whitefield cemetery in Whitefield.

Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Emily W. Rabe
2000-11-16

Emily W. (Wilson) Rabe, 80, of Needham, formerly of North Whitefield, died Thurs., Nov. 16, in Avery Crossing, Needham.

Mrs. Rabe was born in Milton, Penn., and graduated from Wellesley College in 1940. She worked thereafter as a research assistant at Princeton, Yale and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From 1977 to 1986, she was a free-lance medical editor. She was also an active volunteer for Wellesley College, the Needham Public Schools and the Literacy Volunteers of America.

She was a resident of Needham for 28 years. Mrs. Rabe and her husband lived and worked in Saudi Arabia from 1986 until 1989, when they returned and retired to North Whitefield. Upon her husband’s death, she returned to Needham where she resided at Avery Crossing.

Wife of the late Dr. Edward F. Rabe, she is survived by her four children, Dr. Edward F. Rabe of Cambridge, Marian R. Blair of Bridgton, John W. Rabe of Greenwich, Conn., and David W. Rabe of Natick; as well as 13 grandchildren.

Private family memorial service will be held.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Emily’s memory to the Wellesley College Students Aid Society, 106 Central Street, Wellesley, Mass. 02484.

Arrangements were made by George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Avenue, Needham, Mass. 02492.

Clyde L. Reynolds
2001-05-17

Clyde L. Reynolds, 97, formerly of Richmond, Boothbay Harbor and North Berwick, passed away on Tuesday evening, May 15 at the Varney Crossing Nursing Home in North Berwick.

Born in Richmond on May 7, 1904, he was the son of Charles and Helen Woodside Reynolds.

Mr. Reynolds was a former member of the Richmond Grange. He had been employed in various shoe shops and mills. His final employment was for Bath Iron Works where he retired in 1969.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Brown Reynolds; one son, Chester Reynolds; two grandchildren, Chester Reynolds Jr., and Barbara Watterson.

Survivors include one son, Norman Reynolds of Burr Hill, Virginia; two daughters, Clara Brackett of Boothbay Harbor and Judy Watterson of North Berwick, one daughter-in-law, Leona Reynolds of Gardiner; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchild-ren; two great-great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, May 17 from 7-9 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue in Gardiner and the funeral service will be held Friday, May 18, 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family lot in Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Emanuel Food Pantry, 44 Thompson Street, Sanford, ME 04073.

John C. Rice
2001-07-19

John Carl Rice, 62, of Boothbay Harbor, died Tuesday, July 10 at his home.

Born in East Boothbay on February 21, 1939, he was the son of Carl Weston Rice and Helen Woodward Rice. He attended local schools.

During the Vietnam Era he served in the U.S. Army and for about ten years he served with the Army National Guard in Bath.

He was employed as a shipbuilder at Fuller, Goudy & Stevens which was formerly Rice's Shipyard, owned by his grandfather. He was a carpenter at Bath Iron Works, Mt. Cranmore Ski Resort and in the Boothbay area.

Mr. Rice was a talented artist and carpenter. He enjoyed oil painting and designing bookcases and furniture as well as building houses, barns, etc. He loved old western movies, NASCAR races and his daughters and family.

He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Jane Rice; and two brothers, Gordon and Louis Rice.

Survivors include one daughter, Aminda and her husband Kevin LaBrecque of East Sandwich, Mass.; one step-daughter, Kerrin and her husband Lincoln Erhard of Boothbay; four brothers, Weston Rice of Boothbay, Harland Rice of East Boothbay, Clifton Rice of Westport Island, and Preston (Skipper) Rice of Boothbay Harbor; two sisters, Barbara Brooks of Wiscasset and Janice Grant of Boothbay; three grandchildren, Nicole and William LeBrecque of East Sandwich, Mass., and Blake Erhard of Boothbay; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Friday, July 13 at Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay; with Rev. Allan Wells-Goodwin officiating, followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Barter's Island Community Building.

Arrangements were by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Velma E.P. Rice
2001-06-07

Velma E. Perkins Rice, 94, died at Freeport Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Freeport on May 31, 2001.

Born on August 21, 1906 in South Bellingham, Mass., she was the daughter of Hadley D. and Emma Williams Perkins.

In 1919 she moved to Smithfield, Maine. She attended school in Oakland and graduated from high school in 1924. She was a graduate of Farmington Normal School in the Class of 1930. For ten years Mrs. Rice taught school in Readfield, Sydney and East Boothbay.

Mrs. Rice was a member of the Boothbay Baptist Church in Boothbay and the Faith Assembly of God in St. Cloud, Fla. She was a born-again Christian.

Recently Mrs. Rice had moved to Hiawassee, Georgia where she attended the Mt. Zion Church of God.

Predeceased by her husband of 52 years, the late Bernard M. Rice who died in 1983; two brothers, Wilfred H. Perkins and Bertrum N. Perkins.

Survivors include her three daughters, Mrs. George (Ruth) Lindahl of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Milton (Ro-berta) Kelley of Hiawassee, Ga., and Mrs. Edwin (Joanne) Dresser of Topsham; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-grand-children.

Visiting hours were held on Wednesday, June 6 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 7 at 11 a.m. at the Boothbay Baptist Church in Boothbay. Rev. Dan McNutt will officiate.

Internment will follow at Oceanview cemetery in Boothbay.

Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

In lieu of flowers gifts may be sent in her memory to the Velma E. Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Boothbay Baptist Church, P.O. Box 64, Boothbay, ME 04537.
