OLIVE C. RENNIE

MILLINOCKET - Olive C. Rennie, 83, died at a Brewer healthcare facility. She was born in Concord, N.H., April 6, 1920, the daughter of John and Grace (Small) Lacombe. She was a World War II, U.S. Coast Guard veteran. Mrs. Rennie was a long time resident of Massachusetts, and had recently relocated to Millinocket the end of August to be with her son, Richard. She is survived by her son, Richard of Millinocket; a daughter, Nancy Nowlin of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in Middleboro, Mass., at a later date. Local arrangements by R. L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket.

LEE TYCHO CHEVIOT

CARIBOU - Lee T. Cheviot, 76, died Nov. 20, 2003, at his Caribou residence. He was born at Woodland, April 4, 1936, the son of Floyd and Marcella (Smith) Cheviot. Lee was educated in the Woodland school system and was employed at McCain Foods for several years in the maintenance department. He also served in the Army National Guard. Lee had a passion for playing bass and rhythm guitar. He played with individuals such as Paul Clayton, jam sessions at the Washburn Ski-Doo Club, at area nursing homes, with the Shirley Haines Band, and the Castonguay Band in Canada. Lee also started several area bands with his long time friend, Bernard "Bunny" Rafford. He is survived by his significant other, Arlene Sparks of Caribou; three sons, Timothy Cheviot of Dexter, James Cheviot of New Sweden, and Carl Cheviot of Caribou; one daughter, Eileen Cyr of Caribou; one brother, Earl Cheviot of Woodland; seven grandchildren Alexandria and Cote Cheviot of New Sweden, Katie ad Lori Cyr of Caribou, Chloe, Hayley and Ashley Cheviot of Dexter. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. At his request, there will be no funeral. Interment will take place in West Jemtland Cemetery, New Sweden.

EDDINGTON - Robert L. Dexter, 77, died Nov. 21, 2003, at a Bangor hospital. A complete obituary will be published in Monday's edition of the Bangor Daily News. A service of Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer.

ELIZABETH A. (CUNNINGHAM) SAWYER

ORLAND - Elizabeth A. Sawyer, 74, died Nov. 20, 2003, at the Courtland Nursing Home, Ellsworth, five days short of her 55th wedding anniversary, as the result of aggressive Alzheimer's disease. She was born April 20, 1929, in Orland, the daughter of Crestel F. (Perkins) and Newell E. Cunningham Sr. Betty enjoyed camping, bluegrass festivals, television soap operas, Yahtzee, cribbage, rummy, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She was especially fond of her "little sweetheart" Lucky, her Pug dog. Betty will be missed by her husband, George Sawyer of Orland; her daughter, Barbara; her granddaughter, Stacy; and her great-grandson, Justice, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Freda Hewes Smith of Orrington, and Doris Beaulieu, a resident of Penobscot Nursing Home; one brother and sister- in-law, Robert and Verna Cunningham of Ellsworth; several cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Newell Cunningham Jr. A graveside memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Silver Lake Cemetery, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101-2406. ALBERTA M. JONES

MONSON - Alberta M. Jones, 78, died Nov. 20, 2003, at a Greenville hospital. She was born June 12, 1925, in Bowdoinham, daughter of John and Kathleen Hlister. She worked for many years as a spinner in the local woolen mills. She was predeceased by her husband, Thurlow C. Jones. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon and her husband, Raymond Arnold, of Monson, and Ellen Adkins of Dover-Foxcroft; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at the Hillside Cemetery in Monson, with the Rev. Father James Robichaud officiating. LOUIS V. MORELLI

BANGOR - Louis V. Morelli, 84, died Nov. 21, 2003, in Bangor. Louis was born on Nov. 7, 1919, in Port land, and grew up on Munjoy Hill. He graduated from Portland High School. He served in the U.S. Navy on the Navy destroyer the Bonhomme Richard during World War II. After the war, he attended Husson College in Bangor and received an Accounting Degree. He worked for the Bangor Commercial Newspaper, and also cooked part-time at the Baltimore Restaurant. He subsequently worked for the Maine Sunday Telegram newspaper for over 35 years. In his job as District Manager, he hired and supervised thousands of young boys and girls as newspaper carriers. Louis also coached Brewer Farm and Little League baseball for nearly 50 years. He coached hundreds of children over that time, as well as their children and grandchildren, on the many teams he took to championships. To acknowledge the many years of coaching, Louis and two other dedicated baseball coaches were honored by having the Brewer Pendleton Street Athletic field renamed Corey/ Debeck/Morelli Field. Louis loved the Fire Dept. and Police Dept., and was often seen at fires, serving coffee, taking photographs for the newspaper or helping out in any way he could. In the early 1960s, he climbed out of the top floor window at the burning Union Street Fire Dept. in Bangor to save the flag. Over the years, he had many friends at the Bangor Fire Dept., as well as other local agencies. In recent years Louis took great pride in being a volunteer for the Bangor Fire Museum. Formerly a member of the Bangor Jaycees and Kiwanis, he was a member of the Bangor Noontime Lions Club. Louis helped with many charitable causes, including raising money to help the sight-impaired to have seeing-eye dogs. He served lunches with the Lions Club at the Salvation Army. His good humor will be missed by all at the club. Louis leaves a wife, Pat Morelli, of Bangor; three children, including daughter, Carol and her husband, William Jordan, of Portland and their daughters, Mira and Juliana; a son, Thomas Morelli and his wife Karen, of Brewer, Thomas' son, Scott Morelli, his partner, Beth and daughter, Olivia; and a son, James Morelli of Wilmington, Del.; also step-daughters and husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Jacque Chabot, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Simpson, and Mr. and Mrs. William Klekotta. Louis is also survived by his brothers, Joseph, Angelo and Alfred Morelli. All who knew Louis and were touched by his life are invited to visit, share stories, and pay their respects 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor where Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Friends who wish may please send donations to the Bangor Fire Department, 289 Main St., Bangor, to aid in purchasing equipment, or their related charities.

OTTIE 'SONNY' WADDELL JR.

MILO and ORONO - A service of remembrance for Ottie "Sonny" Waddell Jr. will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at the East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Road, with the Rev. Adam Soderberg, pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments in the Church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Orono. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives, 1225 Broadway, Bangor.

VINCENT MICHAEL PARKER

LUBEC - Vincent M. Parker, 59, died Nov. 18, 2003, at his residence in Washington D.C., following a long illness. Born April 11, 1944, in Acushnet, Mass., he was the son of William and Kathelene (McWilliams) Parker. He was a graduate of Lubec High School, Class of 1961, and the University of Maine at Machias, Class of 1967. Vincent was an Army Veteran serving in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church of Washington D.C. He was employed for many years by the Washington Post. Vincent was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Vernon Parker, in 1950; and his father, William Parker, in 1972. Surviving are his mother, Kathelene (McWilliams) Parker of Lubec; one brother, William Jr. of Lubec; two sisters, Catherine Hersey of Brunswick, and Ellen Woodworth of Pembroke, Mass.; three nephews, and several cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church of Lubec, with the Rev. Michael Sheridan celebrant. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until time of the Mass. Burial with full military honors will be at the Olson Cemetery, Lubec. Following burial relatives and friends will gather at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Funeral arrangements are by the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais.

ROSE ZEIBER

HAMPDEN - Rose Zeiber, 96, of Hampden, passed away at her home on Nov. 20. Rose was born on June 8, 1907, in Capetown, South Africa and arrived in the United States on Oct. 20, 1907. Rose grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., with her two sisters and brother, and attended the University of Wisconsin and New York University where she majored in English Literature and Philosophy. Rose lived with her husband in what is now Israel from 1935 to 1941. She taught English in Israel and the United States, retiring from the New York City school system in 1973. Rose spent her retirement folk dancing and traveling all over the world visiting many different countries such as Nepal, New Guinea, Turkey and Russia. She enjoyed decorating her home with artifacts from her many travels. Rose was a true feminist who, as a single mother, taught her daughter and granddaughter the meaning of independence, the importance of good grammar and that you should always try on an outfit before you decide you don't like it. She leaves behind her partner of many years, Sam Kron; her daughter and son-in-law, Dara and Martin Perfit; her granddaughter and her husband, Tamar and Jacob Mathieu; her grandson and his wife, Micah and Lori Perfit; and her great-grandchildren, Colin, Ian and Caleigh. At the request of the deceased there will be no services. Donations may be made in her memory to the Hospice of St. Joseph, 900 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements entrusted to the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.

SHIRLEY A. BYRD

ST. ALBANS - Shirley A. Byrd, 68, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 20, 2003, after a short battle with cancer and will be sadly missed. She was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of Roger and Lucille (Gerry) Baker. She worked for many years for Guilford of Maine in Newport. Shirley was actively involved in the First Free Baptist Church in Dexter and was involved with many ladies clubs. She is survived by her mother, Lucille Schriver of California; two loving daughters, Alice and her husband, Greg Hathaway, of Dexter, and Janiece Kearney of Long Island, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler of Dexter, and Alisha and Bobby of Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Phyllis Morgan of North Carolina; two aunts, Emma Conley and Mildred Gerry, both of Ohio; a special friend, Dora Gardiner of Dexter. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. LEE H. DEAN

MAPLETON - Lee H. Dean, 77, died Friday morning Jan. 30, 2004, at a Mars Hill healthcare fac-ility. He was born Sept. 23, 1926, at Charlestown, Mass., the son of Lee H. and Alvena (Corey) Dean. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Lee worked as a steel fabricator. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of the Mapleton United Baptist Church. Lee is survived by his wife, Idella (Rockwell) Dean of Mapleton; son, Lee Dean of New York; two daughters, Peggy Littlefield and her husband, Daniel, of Rutland, Mass., Kathy Berube of Bristol, Conn.; two adopted daughters, Alyssa and Marissa Littlefield of Mapleton; five sisters, Marie Little, Dorothy Stephenson and Charlotte Tarbell, all of Mapleton, Alma Pelletier of Caribou, and Louise MacFarline of Presque Isle; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his mother and father; his stepfather, Linton Tarbell; three brothers, Donald and Kenneth Dean and Chester Graves. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Kenneth Phelps officiating. Relatives and friends may call from 12 noon until the time of service at the funeral home. A military committal will be held in the spring at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton. EDMUND J. DUPUIS JR.

MILFORD - Friends of Edmund J. Dupuis Jr. may call 11 a.m. Saturday until time of service at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town where the VFW will conduct a prayer service at 1 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life with the Rev. Rudolph Leveille officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held in the spring at Milford Cemetery. Friends and Family are invited to the Holy Family Parish Hall for a luncheon and continued fellowship immediately following the service.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN 'FRANK' BICKFORD

SANGERVILLE - Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Bickford, 91, died Jan. 29, 2004, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. He was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Kingsbury, the son of Ernest and Abbie (Gerrish) Bickford. Frank grew up in Abbot, graduating from Abbot High School in 1931, and married Iva Mae (Bishop) on Oct. 13, 1934. Frank and Iva have been residents of Sangerville for more than 60 years. He worked for 37 years as an experimental machinist and toolmaker at Fay Scott in Dexter, retiring in 1977. He was a Past Master and 50-year member of Abner Wade Masonic Lodge and was a Past Patron and 50-year member of Susie Carr Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, both in Sangerville. Frank believed in serving his community and in helping others. He was a selectman for the town of Sangerville for 15 years, and was an active member of the Sangerville Fire Department for many years. He supported and was active in many town and Maple Street celebrations. He was a member of the Sangerville Universalist Church, both as a Methodist and then as a Unitarian for more than 50 years, and spent much time caring for the building. The church members were an extended part of the family. He worked tirelessly to assist in the development of Oakes Manor Senior Citizens Homes in Sangerville, and served as vice chairperson of the board of directors of the Sangerville Development Co-operation. He and Iva have resided at Oakes Manor since 1982. Frank grew up near Piper Pond in Abbot, and in 1953 built a cottage that is very special to family and friends. It was a place where he spent many peaceful and happy days. He was devoted to his family and will be remembered for his enormous love of life, a kindness to everyone and a gentle soul. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Iva of Sangerville; a daughter, Ellen and her husband, Harry, the son he always wanted, of St. Albans; his grandchildren, Christopher of Winter Park, Colo., and Jennifer; and his great-granddaughter, Alecia of St. Albans; and a very special brother-in-law, Charles Bishop and his wife, Patricia, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; a brother, Hugh Bickford of Skowhegan; two sisters, Opel Rollins of Milo, and Barbara Whiting of Abbot; a brother-in-law, Cleo Bishop and his wife, Mary Ann, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene and Ivory. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford, where a Masonic service will be conducted by the brethren of Abner Wade Masonic Lodge Sunday at 5:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, with the Rev. Dr. Margaret "Dodie" Stowe officiating. Spring burial will be in the Abbot Village Cemetery. BANGOR and HAMPDEN A funeral service for Leona (Munson) Townsend Gochee will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. David Bean, pastor of the Beacon of Hope Church of God, officiating. Visiting hours will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Interment in the springtime will be in Linneus Cemetery, Linneus.

LAURA O. HARRIS

ST. ALBANS - Laura O. Harris, 71, died Jan. 26, 2004, after a short illness. She was born Sept. 30, 1932, in Athens, the daughter of Daniel and Gladys (Gray) Wyman. Laura enjoyed yard sales, flea markets and taking care of many children in the area. She is survived by a son, Donald Wyman and his wife, Melody, of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Erik Wyman of Dallas, Texas, Joseph Wyman and his wife, Traci, of Rogers, Ark., and Ross Wyman of San Antonio, Texas; a great-grandson, Bryant Zane Wyman of Rogers, Ark.; and a host of family and friends. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson Funeral Home, 30 St. Albans Road, Corinna, with the Rev. Edward Jaworski officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services. Spring burial will be in Mount Rest Cemetery, Athens.

MURIEL RAYMOND

MADAWASKA - Muriel Raymond, 62, died unexpectedly in Brunswick, while en route to the Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born July 14, 1941, in Edmundston, New Brunswick, the daughter of Fortunat and Yvette (Nadeau) Lajoie. In addition to her mother of Edmundston, she is survived by her husband, Gerald (Gerry) Raymond of Madawaska; two daughters, Lisa Raymond (Lafleche) and her husband, Emile, of St. Eustache, P.Q., Canada, Lynn Day of Scarborough; and one son, Blair Raymond of Edmundston, New Brunswick; three sisters, Gisele Lajoie of Belleville, Ontario, Canada, Micheline Lajoie of Dieppe, New Brunswick, and Jovette Lajoie of Quebec, P.Q.; two brothers, Ronald Lajoie and his wife, Nicole, of Montreal, P.Q., and Clarence Lajoie and his wife, Claudette, of Stevensville, Ontario; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was the niece of Father Laurent Nadeau of Edmundston. She was predeceased by one son, Gerald Raymond Jr., in 1961. Funeral services will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Friends and relatives may call at the Daigle Funeral Home 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

NELLIE MORRISON JOHNSTON BARNARD

PORTLAND and ST. FRANCIS Nellie Barnard died Jan. 29, 2004, in Portland. She was born Jan. 11, 1917, in St. Francis, the second daughter of Gilbert and Sadie McPherson Morrison. She was educated in the St. Francis schools before the high school was destroyed by fire. Her parents were farmers in summer and lumberers in winter. She enjoyed working with them in both occupations. As a young girl, she was on a tow boat on the St. John River. In 1932, she worked doing cooking for a log drive at Glazier Lake. Then, in the winter of 1936-1937, while her father was lumbering, she cooked for 32 men in a camp at Morrill Shed on the St. John River. That year she was taken by dog sled to spend Christmas with friends. In March of 1937, she married Clarence Johnston at the United Baptist Church in Caribou. They settled in Fort Fairfield, where they raised four children; two sons and two daughters. In 1972, Clarence died suddenly. Later in 1977, Nellie married Leon Barnard in the Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Fairfield. From then until 1995, she and her husband wintered in Florida. In 1986, she and Mr. Barnard moved from his home in Springfield, Vt. to Portland. They loved to travel through Maine and to other states staying at Bed and Breakfasts as they went. Any means of travel was enjoyable to them; car, bus or train. Other than an earlier camping trip made to Europe and traveling through seven countries, which was a wonderful experience, the high-light of her trips was a 17-day trip through the Canadian Rockies that she made with Mr. Barnard. Mrs. Barnard had many hobbies and interests. In fact, she had a knack for making life interesting. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed camping. She loved houseplants, which never died with her and making ceramics which she showed and sold in Portland in spring and fall. She was a quilt maker finishing her last quilt in June 2003 for her granddaughter. As a young woman she worked for a milliner and over the years made a hobby of collecting fascinating hats. In her later years, she started writing her autobiography "Nellie's Travels." She was a member of the Fort Fairfield Grange, the Pomona Grange and the Maine State Grange and Ceres Circle in Portland. She was a member of the Central Square Baptist Church in Portland. When in Florida, she attended the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Dora. She was predeceased by her first husband, Clarence Johnston and her second husband, Leon Barnard, who died in 1993,and also a brother, Cyrus Morrison of Ohio. She is survived by her four children, Mrs. Carl (Barbara) Fournier of Portland, Marcia Becker of Richmond, Ill., Richard A. Johnston of Sanford and Kenneth W. Johnston of Portland; as well as her stepchildren; Beverly Archambault of Bedford, N.H., and Robert Barnard of New Port Richie, Fla.; her grandchildren, Kevin Fournier of Standish, Shawn Fournier of Casco, Lisa Becker of Chicago, Ill., Christian Becker of Richmond, Ill, Rich Johnston of South Carolina, and Jason K. Johnston of Presque Isle. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren; six sisters Cora Johnson of Portland, Hazel Tilley of St. Francis, Vesta Moir of Woodland, Mrs. Arnold (Luella) Palm of Caribou, Mrs. Clark (Phyllis) McBrearity of Allagash, Patricia Kelly of Allagash; and a brother, Merton Morrison and his wife, Phoebe, of St. Francis; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Morrison of Ohio and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at Clark Memorial United Methodist Church, 15 Pleasant Ave., Portland. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Fairfield. Those who desire may make contributions in her memory to the Clark Memorial United Methodist Church, 15 Pleasant Ave., Portland, ME 04103.
