Billie Ann Reed
2001-01-04

Billie Ann Reed of Edgecomb died at Maine Medical Center in Portland on January 1, 2001.

She grew up and was raised in Kosciusko, Miss. She was a graduate of Kosciusko High School and Belhaven College in Jackson, Miss. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

A devoted elementary school teacher for 38 years, her career included teaching in Gulfport, Miss., France, New Foundland (Corner Brook), New Orleans and Sidell, La. Mrs. Reed taught locally in East Boothbay and at the Boothbay Region Elementary School for 19 years, retiring in 1998.

She was a member of the Maine State Teachers Association and the National Education Association.

Billie Ann had a great love of family, teaching and of her colleagues and friends. She enjoyed her gardens, rock walls, and decorating her home and dining out.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Robert N. Reed of Edgecomb; one daughter, Amy Rochelle Reed, of Lanham, Md.; one sister, Mary Frances Allen, of Kosciusko, Miss.; and one nephew, Christopher Allen, of Kosciusko, Miss.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made in her memory to the Boothbay Region Elementary School - Billie Ann Reed Memorial Fund, 238 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Donald Roux
2001-08-30

Donald Roux, 86, of Southport, died Thursday, August 23 at St. Andrews Hospital.

Born in Montreal, Canada on December 23, 1914, he was the son of Joseph and Alice Smith Roux. He grew up in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School. He worked in mechanical maintenance for Lexington Gardens, United Shoe Machinery and for Campbell Soup Company, all in the Boston area, until he retired.

Mr. Roux had summered in the Boothbay region since 1964 and moved here permanently in the early 1980s. He was an avid reader and gardener and was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

He was predeceased by his wife Lillian Weeks Roux in 1993.

Survivors include one brother, Lorne E. and his wife Elizabeth R. Roux of Pocasset, Mass.; one nephew, Lorne F. Roux and his wife Jane of East Falmouth, Mass; and one niece, Judith and her husband Albert Shatas of Bourne, Mass.

Visiting hours were held Sunday, August 26 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, August 27 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Boothbay Harbor. Interment was in Decker Cemetery, Southport with Rev. Raymond Picard officiating.

Arrangements were by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay.

Melville T. Rowe
2001-07-05

Melville T. Rowe, 86, of Boothbay Harbor, died Thursday, June 28 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta.

Born in Boothbay Harbor, he was a son of Curvin and Flora Rowe.

He was a combat medic during World War II and served in the South Pacific Theater.

For many years he worked for the Squirrel Island as a painter in the maintenance department.

He was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers.

Surviving is a brother, Merton, of Waterville; long-time companion, Carolyn Smith; and several nephews and nieces.

A graveside service was held on Monday, July 2 at Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW, Post 3475, P.O. Box 513, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Arrangements were by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Elizabeth E. Royall
2001-02-15

Elizabeth Ellis Royall, 86, of East Boothbay, died Thursday, February 8 in Wilton, Connecticut after a long illness.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on November 25, 1915, she spent much of her life in St. Louis, Mo.

In March of 1982 she married Rear Admiral William F. Royall, who died in January 2000.

Mrs. Royall moved to The Greens at Cannandale in Wilton last April to be close to her children.

She was an active member of St. Columba's Episcopal Church in Boothbay; and enjoyed classes at the YMCA, needlework, friends, family and her garden.

Survivors include two children, William Howell (Howie) Masters of New York City and Sarah (Sali) Masters Paul of Wilton; and two grandsons, Samuel Masters and Oliver Paul.

Plans for services are incomplete at this time. Burial will be held later in Michigan.

Donations in her memory may be made to St. Columba's Episcopal Church in Boothbay.

Mary Hawke Rumery
2001-06-28

Mary Hawke Rumery, 87, of Boothbay Harbor died Tuesday, June 26 at the Gregory Wing.

Graveside services are scheduled Friday, July 6, at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay.

Glendon D. Russell
2001-11-29

Glendon D. Russell, 43, of Wiscasset, died Tuesday, November 6.

Born in Wiscasset on March 13, 1958, he was the son of Donald G. and Gladys D. (Applebee) Russell.

He attended Richmond and Wiscasset schools. On February 18, 1984 he married Darlene Bailey.

For many years he was a marine worm digger and then became a bait dealer. In 1996 he started his automobile business, L & L Automotive in Newcastle; he later moved his business to his home on the Gardiner Road under the name of Donald G. Russell, Inc., Towing & Recovery. He also sponsored Billy Pinkham Racing and Mike Kipp's softball team.

He enjoyed being in Brownville Junction with his family and friends. Mr. Russell loved his family, dog, mother, sister and was very proud of his children. He loved the kids at the high school and often supplied them with their first vehicles.

He was predeceased by his father, Donald G. Russell and his father-in-law, Erlon B. Bailey.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene M.; his mother, Gladys D. Russell; one daughter, Shannon M. Russell, and one son, Donald G. Russell, both of Wiscasset; six sisters, Donna Sullivan of Richmond, Louisa Russell of Augusta, Ginger Mitchell of Glenburn, Theresa Russell of Woolwich, Dee Russell of Wiscasset and Lee Russell; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Saturday, November 10 at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home in Wiscasset.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shannon M. and Donald G. Russell Trust Fund, c/o Midcoast Credit Union, P.O. Box 73, Edgecomb, ME 04556.

George F. Ryan
2001-06-14

George Frances Ryan of Boothbay Harbor died at his home on June 12, 2001.

Born on August 19, 1910, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the only child of Christopher and Mary Johnston Ryan, Jr. He had been employed by the Recordack Corporation (Kodak) from 1929 to 1970. It was at Recordack that he met his future wife, Anita (Ann) Sutton

Mr. Ryan enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He was involved in developing new technologies for Recordack that were used by the U.S. Government in the war effort. These included Micro Photography. He was discharged from the Navy in 1945 but continued in the Naval Reserve until 1951.

After service to our country, he returned to employment with the Recordak Corporation. He and his wife retired in 1970 and moved to Boothbay Harbor.

He continued his interest in photography in his later years. He was fascinated by the continued development of the camera, video camera, computer imaging and technology in general.

Mr. Ryan was a communicant of the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace where he served as usher and as part of the "Garage Sale" crew of the Church Fair for many years.

His wife of 53 years predeceased him in 1993.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace. The Rev. Raymond Picard will officiate.

Robert W. Rainey
2002-03-14

Robert W. Rainey, 85, of Wilton, died Monday, March 11.

Born in Hallowell July 29, 1916, he grew up in Wilton where he enjoyed and played sports of all kinds.

Mr. Rainey served in the Merchant Marines, and had resided in Lewiston, where he worked for McLennan's Driving School as an instructor, before returning to Wilton and retiring as a driver's license examiner for the State of Maine in Farmington.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and watching hockey.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Bunker Rainey; his daughter by his first marriage, Susan D. Foss of Boothbay Harbor; one grandson, Jeff Foss of Westport; two granddaughters, Dawn Foss of New Portland, and Kris Stahle of Marietta, Georgia; five great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.

A private graveside service will be held in the spring.

Ruby Rand
2002-03-15

Ruby Eliza Rand, 95, formerly of Gray, died Saturday, March 9.

She was born in Perth, New Brunswick, Canada, the oldest daughter of Herbert and Margaret (Hanscom) Hanson. She became a citizen in 1976.

In 1928, she married Stanwood Rand; he died in 1970.

She is survived by two sons, Harry and his wife Donna, of Gray, and Richard and his wife Mona, of Lewiston; a brother, Norman Hanson, of West Peru; a daughter, Sylvia Plossay and her husband Edward, of Lewiston; a daughter-in-law, Alene Rand, of Purcellville, VA; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Allison; five sisters, Pearl, Dolly, Velma, Mildred and Bernice; and three brothers, Wallace, William and Clinton.

Grace M. Rawson
2002-10-31

Grace M. Rawson, 97, a long-time resident of Cornish, died Monday afternoon, October 28 at the Sullivan County Nursing Home in Unity.

Born in Dresden October 10, 1905, she was the daughter of John A. and Alice (Cooper) McFadden. She lived in Claremont since 1979 and had previously lived in Cornish for fifty years.

Mrs. Rawson was a graduate of the Claremont General Hospital School of Nursing in 1929. She worked for the Claremont General Hospital and the Windsor Hospital as a registered nurse, and in the 1960s she did private duty nursing only and retired in 1980.

She was a member of the Cornish Garden Club, over 50-year member of the Home Extension Program, a member of the N.H. Association for the Blind, a Past Health Officer for twenty years, a two-term member of the Library Board of Cornish and a longtime member of the Cornish Grange.

She was the widow of Rubert Rawson who died Sept. of 1979.

The surviving family includes one son, John C. Rawson of Cornish; one daughter, Patricia Rawson of Newport; a grandson, Alan John Rawson; two granddaughters, Melissa and Emily Rawson; three great grandchildren and two nephews and three cousins.

Graveside memorial committal services will be held Saturday morning, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. in Child cemetery in Cornish with Pastor, Scott Kearns, of the First Baptist Church, officiating. The Stringer Funeral Home and Crematorium, 146 Broad Street is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests that donations may be made in her memory to the New Hampshire Association For the Blind, 25 Walker Street, McGreal Sight Center, Concord, NH 03301.
