CHELSEA

Charles R. Bell – age 54 of South Dondero Rd. and formerly of 14 Valley St., Augusta, died Sunday, October 8, 2000 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Augusta on June 27, 1946 the son of Charles C. and Lucy (Cote) Bell.

Mr. Bell was a graduate of Cony High School, class of 1965 and received his Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Thomas College, Class of 1972.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Bell had been employed by the U.S Government, Defense Contract Audit Agency for the last 22 years.

He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Augusta.

Mr. Bell loved to hunt and fish as well as collect antiques and bowl. He was an avid gardener and birdwatcher and enjoyed the company of his pet dogs, Sasha and Boo.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #2, Abnaki Assembly #346 – 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and a member of Abnaki Council #334 – 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Bell was pre-deceased by his parents, three brothers, Cecil, Clarence and Raymond and five sisters, Marie, Florence, Adelia, Laurette and Jeannette.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carol A. (Piper) Bell of Chelsea; a son, Kevin Bell, his fiancée Lynda Terrell and her son Nick Dyer all of Gardiner; a daughter, Staci Shedd and her husband Matt of Auburn; four brothers, William J. Bell, Sr. of Augusta, Philip Bell and his wife Theresa of Augusta, Robert Bell and his wife Sue of Windsor and Richard Bell and his wife Cathy of Windsor; three sisters, Gert Sanford of Augusta, Annie Geroux and her husband Merle of Chelsea and Lucille Burns of Hartley, MD; a granddaughter, Kelsi Rae Bell, a grandson yet to be born, Hunter Charles Bell, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit today from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of Abnaki Council #334 - 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at 7 PM to recite prayers for their departed member and members of Abnaki Assembly # 346 - 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Color Corps are asked to meet at 6:30 PM in full regalia for the "Posting of the Guard". Members of the American Legion Post are asked to meet at 7:30 PM to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Augusta.

Burial and committal prayers will follow in the family lot at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pelton Hill, Manchester.

Those who desire may make donations to St. Mary’s School, Sewall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

AUGUSTA

Gilbert S. Bell - age 72 of Outlet Rd. died Thursday, October 12, 2000 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta after a brief illness. He was born in Sedgwick on February 7, 1928 the son of Edwin W. and Doris B. (Carter) Bell.

Mr. Bell attended school in Lamoine and was a U.S Army veteran.

He was a member of the Apostolic Church of Chelsea where he was very active in the Church.

Mr. Bell co-owned and operated Bell's Auto Sales and Salvage on Rt. 17 for over 40 years.

He was pre-deceased by his parents and a son, Gilbert S. Bell, Jr.

Mr. Bell is survived by his wife of 7 years, Susie F. (Harmon) Bell of Augusta; three daughters, Rebecca Turcotte of Clinton, Candida Bell of Chelsea and Rohdell Bell of Chelsea; two step-sons, James R. Scally of Saco and Patrick Scally of San Diego, CA; two step-daughters, Dorothy Scally of India and Cindy Kelley of Harrington; two brothers, Carl Bell of Chelsea and Robert Bell of Augusta; 13 grandchildren, his friend and long time business partner Pearl Pitman of Windsor and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Monday, Oct. 16th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM with Pastor Harold Peaslee, Jr., pastor of the Apostolic Church of Chelsea officiating.

Burial will follow in the family cemetery, Bell cemetery in Chelsea.

AUGUSTA

Marjorie V. Bernier – age 90 of Baldwin St. died Sunday, January 21, 2001 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care Center at Glenridge Drive after a brief illness. She was born in East Boothbay on January 9, 1911 the daughter of Simeon and Julia (Dodge) Van Horn.

Mrs. Bernier graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1928 and earned her Bachelors Degree in Math from Colby College where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

She had been employed by the State of Maine Bureau of Taxation – Inheritance Tax Division for 15 years. She had previously been employed by the City of Augusta as a substitute teacher for several years and was a teacher at St. Mary’s School for a short time.

Mrs. Bernier was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, was a member of the Parent Teachers Association and St. Mary’s Literary Guild.

She was chosen Augusta Mother of the Year in 1969 by the Augusta Jay Cees and was also a Maine Merit Mother in that same year. She was Past Treasurer of the Maine Mothers Association.

In addition to enjoying her family, she was interested in gardening, the weather, the night sky and crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Bernier was pre-deceased by her husband of 41 years, John R. Bernier; a son, John P. Bernier; a brother, Dwight Van Horn and two sisters, Nina Van Horn and Alberta Shute.

Survivors include two sons, Robert E. Bernier and his wife Joyce of Manchester and William R. Bernier of Bradley; three daughters, Julie Bernier of Augusta, Elaine Morin and her husband Michel of Manchester and Elise Patenaude and her husband Tom of Sidney; 12 grandchildren, Matthew Bernier, Kelsey Ullman, Stephanie, Jennifer, J. Andrew and Patricia Bernier, Abram, Jared and Adrienne Patenaude and Joshua, Chantal and Jillian Morin; three great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Joanne Bernier of Augusta and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Tuesday from 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Augusta.

Spring burial will be in the family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pelton Hill, Manchester.

AUGUSTA

Irene M. Blanchette -age 80 of State St., died Saturday, November 11, 2000 at her home after a brief illness. She was born in Frenchville on April 10, 1920 the daughter of Honore and Marie (Vaillancourt) Trudelle.

Mrs. Blanchette was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church.

She was a homemaker for most of her life.

Mrs. Blanchette was pre-deceased by her husband, Emile J. Blanchette; a daughter, Germaine St. Armand; a grandson, Stephen St. Armand and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a son, Reno Blanchette of Augusta; a daughter, Muriel Blanchette and her fiancée Maurice Philippon of Augusta; three brothers, Gilman Trudelle of Mada­waska, Claude Trudelle of Los Ange­les, CA and Ned Dube of Auburn; two sisters, Lucille Cyr of Madawaska and Elsie Labato of Plainville, CT; a grandson, Michael Duplessis of Ocean Park, a great-grandson, Joshua Du­plessis of Ocean Park, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Tues­day, November 14th from 2-4 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 AM at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, St. Andrew’s St., Augusta.

Burial will follow at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.

Augusta

Yvonne F. Bonenfant – Age 88, formerly of Pinkham's Cove, Belgrade, The Highlands of Topsham and MaineGeneral Health Care Facility at Glenridge died December 31, 2000 at Glenridge after a long illness.

She was born in Van Buren on April 15, 1912, the daughter of John and Marguerite (St Amand) Roy.

Mrs. Bonenfant was a communicant of St Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta.

She had been employed at Bates Manufacturing Company - Edwards Division for more than 35 years. In her retirement, she enjoyed visiting with relatives and friends at her lovely lakeside home on Great Pond.

She was predeceased by her first husband Leo 'Pete" Dostie and her second husband Laurier "Larry" Bonenfant also two sisters Martha Ayotte and Rose Jackson and two brothers Simon "Jimmy" Roy and Edmond Roy.

Survivors include a brother and his wife John and Shirley Roy of West Gardiner; three sisters: Anna Labbe of Avon, Mass.; Laura Thibodeau of McDonough, Ga. And Anne Zientara of Hallowell; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Plummer Funeral Home 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Kendall Street, Augusta.

Spring burial will be in the family lot Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Road, Augusta.

AUGUSTA

Clara M. Buzzell - age 83, of 20 Willow Street and formerly of 13 State Street, died November 20, 2000 at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a long illness. She was born in St. Honore, P.Q., Canada on October 30, 1917 the daughter of Joseph Gaboury and Annie (Roy) Gaboury.

Mrs. Buzzell was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Her husband, Guy Godfrey Buzzell Sr., died Feb. 21, 1964.

Surviving is a son, Guy G. Buzzell, Jr. of Somerville, S.C.; a step-daughter, Pauline Buzzell of Buffalo, NY; two sisters, Therese Gaboury and Jeanne Lafetiere both of Lachine, P.Q. Canada, three grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by four sisters: Josephine Fortin, Rose Rozon, Armoza Boulanger and Bernadette Drouin. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may visit Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at Plummer Funeral Home 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 9 from St Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Gendreau, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St Mary's cemetery Winthrop Street, Augusta.

AUGUSTA

Dolores R. Chrissman - 70 of the Old Belgrade Road, died Thursday, January 11, 2001 at MaineGeneral Medical Center - Augusta Division after a brief illness with her family at her side. She was born in Augusta on November 6, 1930 the daughter of Louis "Frank" and Marie Rose (Gosselin) Daniel.

Mrs. Chrissman was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.

She had been employed for a time by Hallowell Shoe Company, but was a homemaker for most of her life.

Mrs. Chrissman was pre-deceased by two brothers, Fernand "Fern" Daniel and Armand "Danny" Daniel and a sister Geraldine Turner.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Joseph M. Chrissman of Augusta whom they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary two weeks from today; two sons, Marcel L. Chrissman and David F. Chrissman both of Augusta; four daughters, Donna J. Kenney, Diane J. Thorndike and her husband Thomas and Gail A. Hemphill all of Augusta and Rosanne M. McFadden and her husband William Jr. of Sidney;

a sister, Jacqueline Labbe and her husband Donald of Augusta; three aunts, fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may visit Monday, January 15th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 11 from St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.

AUBURN

Jacqueline V. Dube - age 68, of the Old Portland Road, died October 16, 2000 at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston after a brief illness. She was born in Augusta, Maine on September 3, 1932 the daughter of George LeClair and Cecile (Cormier) LeClair.

Mrs. Dube had been a homemaker in her own home for most of her life.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Auxiliary of Auburn.

Her husband, Roger P. Dube, died in 1996.

Surviving is her mother, Cecile LeClair of Augusta; a sister, Dolores Laflamme of Augusta; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. Committal prayers will be offered at 10:00 AM Wednesday in the Rev. Leonard Leclair Memorial Chapel, Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, 1 Kendall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

FAYETTE

The Rev. Michael H. Dugan of Lovejoy Shores, Fayette, Me. died on October 2, 2000.

He was born on July 30,1933 in Kingston, New York, the son of William H. Dugan and Aurelia Benda Dugan. Following graduation from Kingston High School he attended the State University of New York Teachers College, New Paltz, New York from which he received the degree of Bachelor of Science in 1955. He then attended the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York City, receiving the degree of Master of Sacred Theology in 1958. He did additional study at the Salisbury and Wells Theological College, Salisbury, England and at the Johnson Institute, Minneapolis, Minn.

He was ordained a Deacon on June 11, 1959 and on Dec. 22, in the same year, a priest. Both ordinations by the Rt. Rev. Horace B. Donegan, Bishop of New York, occurred at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City.

In June 1959, he became curate of Christ Church Episcopal, Gardiner, Maine where he also supervised the mission churches of St. John's, Dresden Mills and St. Matthias', Richmond. He became Vicar of St. Matthew's, Lisbon Falls and St. Matthias in 1961, leaving there in 1965 when he was offered the position of Assistant to the Rector and Director of Christian Education, Trinity Church, Southport, Conn. Leaving there in 1969 he served as Rector of St. Saviour's, Bar Harbor, Maine until 1983 to become Rector of St. Mark's, Newport, Vt. From 1987 until 1994 he was the Canon to the Ordinary of the Diocese of Vermont or Assistant to the Bishop. He became Priest in charge, later

Rector of Trinity Church, Randolph, Mass. in 1994, retiring from that position to the summer home that he and his family long enjoyed on Lovejoy Pond­.

Fr. Dugan was active in community, ecumenical, and New England Episcopal Church affairs. He was a charter member of both the Lisbon Rotary Club and the Lisbon Development Corporation. In Connecticut, he was a Vice President of the Greater Bridgeport Council of Churches and worked closely with an inner city parish (St. Mark's) in a joint tutoring program and developing the first Day Care Center in that city. At that time he took local leadership in Civil Rights activities. While In Bar Harbor,

he became the founding President of the Mt. Desert Island Council of Churches and served on the Board with a term as President of the Bar Harbor Public Nursing Association. He served the Episcopal Church in New England as a Deputy to the Province, on Diocesan and Provincial Canons Committees and as a member of the Provincial Deployment Officers. He was likewise the Executive Secretary to the

Vermont Diocesan Council and Secretary of Convention.

He married Priscilla Woodward Dugan at St. Luke's Cathedral, Portland by the Rt. Rev. Oliver L. Loring, Bishop of Maine on August 6, 1960. They deeply loved one another and enjoyed more then forty years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla, who resides at their home on Lovejoy Shores. He also leaves three children: the Rev. Jeffrey S. Dugan of Farmington, CT., Barbara Dugan Henricks of Stratham, NH and Peter M. Dugan of Portsmouth, NH. and five grandchildren: Matthew S. Dugan, Martha Claire Dugan. Christopher S. Dugan, William S. Dugan and Emma R. Henricks. He is also survived by his mother who resides in a retirement complex in Ulster Park, New York and three sisters: Maureen Seche of Windsor, CA, Gail Roux of Rock Hills, SC and Anne Borchert of Marlboro, NY; a brother predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Wilton, corner of School and High Streets on Oct. 9th at 11:00 AM. The committal will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Dresden Mills at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief, Episcopal Church Center, 815 Second Ave., New York, NY 10017.
