SIDNEY

Carmeline M. Plourd – age 69 of Birch Circle and formerly of Augusta and Belgrade, died unexpectedly Friday, January 19, 2001 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. She was born in Augusta on May 5, 1931 the daughter of Napoleon and Harmonia C. (Dostie) Marceau.

Mrs. Plourd attended Augusta schools and was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

She had been employed by various companies but was a homemaker for most of her life.

Mrs. Plourd was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society and Cushnoc Senior Citizens.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 36 years, Joseph R. Plourd and a grandson, Steven M. Plourd.

Mrs. Plourd is survived by two sons, Ronald T. Plourd of Farmingdale and Bruce M. Plourd and his wife Lisa of Belgrade; three daughters, Donna L. Plourd and her fiancée Stacy J. McCurdy of Sidney, Tammy J. Manduca and her husband Russell and Melissa M. Coleman all of Augusta; a brother, Alfred “Mike” Marceau of Sidney; six grandchildren, Kailyn, Jenna, Diana, Bobby, Kyle and Tyler; 2 great-grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta.

Burial will be on Tuesday morning at 9 AM at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.

GARDINER

John E. "Jack" Pulis - age 70 of West St., passed away Saturday, January 6, 2001 at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 21, 1930 in West Milford, NJ the son of Chester and Anna (Ryerson) Pulis.

Jack served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was assigned to the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama where he started on a lifelong career in the fields of electronics and communications.

Following an Honorable Discharge from military service on October, 1953, Jack was employed by Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey working on the Telstar Satellite. He remained with the Bell System for the next 30 years, retiring from AT&T in 1985. He also worked as a consultant for several small communications businesses in the central Maine area.

Jack enjoyed working on his computer, gardening, photography, canoeing, reading and visiting historical sites. He had a great appreciation for all of nature's beauty and diversity.

Jack was a kind and gentle man with a boundless compassion for all victims of violence, injustice, cruelty and intolerance. He was a firm believer in Albert Schweitzer's philosophy that man will not himself find peace until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things.

Jack is survived by his wife, Linn (Gilbert) Pulis of Gardiner; a daughter, Karen Pulis of Arlington, MA; a son, James Turner and his companion Carol Turner of Litchfield; a brother, James Pulis and his wife Grace of Lewisville, TX; an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews who live throughout the country; many friends and associates, most notably the family's valued and trusted friend, Tom Hayden of Farmingdale.

Jack will also be sadly missed by the family's cats, especially Tazi and by the wild birds and others creatures that he took such pleasure in watching, feeding and sheltering.

At the family's request, there will be no public visiting hours. A committal service will be held today at 11 AM in the Fr. Leonard Leclair Memorial Chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta. Burial will take place following the service at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Jack's family suggests that contributions in his name be made to either Friends of Feral Felines, P.O. Box 8137, Portland, ME 04107 of to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, P.O. Box 2616, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.

AUGUSTA

Juliette M. Quirion – age 87, of the Ballard Road, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Waterville, Maine on June 13, 1913 the daughter of Thomas Labbe and Ida (Breton) Labbe.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Quirion had been employed by Bates Manufacturing Company for many years. For a time, she also was a self-employed housekeeper in private homes and worked for Augusta General Hospital.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking and crocheting.

Mrs. Quirion was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society.

Her husband, Antonio Quirion, died August 8, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Yvette Latulippe, a brother, Leo Libby and a grandson, Jeffery Gagnon, who died in 1989.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James (Diane) Gagnon of Augusta and Arlene Bilodeau of Sidney; one sister, Lucille Caron of Waterville; five grandchildren, Paul Gagnon of Augusta, Paula Gagnon of Monmouth, Sandy Bilodeau of Portland, John Bilodeau of Manchester and Marc Bilodeau of Florida; four great-grandchildren, Rebecca "The Lil Girl" Gagnon of Monmouth, Caleb and Hannah Gagnon, both of Winthrop and Regan Bilodeau of Manchester; several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM today at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta where members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 3:00 PM to offer a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Parents of Murdered Children, Maine Chapter, 9 Constitution Rd., Kennebunk, ME 04043, attn: Jay O’Brien.

GARDINER

James M. Raymond – formerly James M. Horne of Mechanic St. and formerly of Lebanon, NH, died Friday, November 24, 2000 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta after a long illness. He was born in Sanford on May 12, 1947 the son of Angelo and Dorothy (Raymond) Horne.

Mr. Raymond was a graduate of Cony High School in Augusta and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War.

He had been employed by Professional Moving Services in Lebanon, NH and had previously been employed as a security guard at Dartmouth College.

Mr. Raymond was a former member of the Elks Lodge in Lebanon, NH and was an active participant in Alcoholics Anonymous.

He is survived by his parents, Angelo Horne of Sanford and Dorothy (Raymond) Horne of Augusta; a son, James Horne of San Modesto, CA; two daughters, Julie Horne of San Modesto, CA and Valerie Cook of Lebanon, NH; two brothers, Reuben Horne and Mark H. Horne, both of Lebanon, NH; three sisters, Deborah Boivin of Hartland, VT, Lynn Hodgdon of Chatham, VA and Sabrina Doucette of Sidney; three grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 27th at 1 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to your local chapter of Alcoholic Anonymous.

HALLOWELL

George V. Rivard - age 83 of Second St., and formerly of Augusta, died Sunday, January 7, 2001 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. He was born in Lewiston on October 4, 1917 the son of Dr. George A. and Mary Lucy (Gallant) Rivard.

Mr. Rivard attended Lewiston Schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1936.

He served in the Army Air Corps, now known as the Air Force, from October 1941 until he was discharged in December 1945.

After his discharge he was employed as a theater manager having managed the Opera House in Gardiner and the Capitol Theater in Augusta. In 1952 he made a career change and became a beverage salesman, working first for Winslow Beverage Co. and then for Pine State Beverage Co., now called Pine State Trading Co., where he retired after 17 years of service.

Mr. Rivard was a lifetime member of Le Club Calumet and after his retirement he became more active in Club affairs, serving on several committees. He was on the Steering Committee of Le Festival De La Bastille for eleven of it's twelve years. In 1996 he and his great friend, Larry Pelletier, were given the honor of being named as Marshals of the Festival Parade.

He also served on the Board of Directors of the St. Mary's Credit Union, now called Chestnut Community Credit Union for 18 years, during which time he served as it's President for 2 terms and was on the Building and Supervisory Committees, retiring in 1998 because of ill health.

Mr. Rivard was pre-deceased by his parents and two sisters, Muriel Rivard, RN and Constance Fraser.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Doris (Thibodeau) Rivard of Hallowell, who he married in October 1949; four daughters, Leah Bowden and her husband William of Hallowell, Theresa Parquette and her husband Robert of Augusta, Julie Hagen and her husband John of Springfield, MO and Monique Braley and her husband Scott of Newport; two sons, George A. Rivard and his wife Shirley of Mt. Vernon and Peter Rivard and his partner Dr. John Woytowicz of Gardiner; five grandchildren, Sara and Michael Bowden of Hallowell, Patrick and Christopher Braley of Newport and Trenton Hagen of Springfield, MO.

Relatives and friends may visit on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where officers and members of Le Club Calumet are asked to meet at 7 PM to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta.

Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either: American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688 or St. Mary's School, 56 Sewall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

SIDNEY

Jason M. Stoddard – age 23, of Tillson Hollow, died November 18, 2000 as the result of a hunting accident off Route 17 in Augusta. He was born in Augusta, Maine on December 17, 1976.

Jason graduated from Cony High School in the class of 1995 and later attended Central Maine Technical College in Auburn.

He was employed as a foreman by Lajoie Brothers Contractors of Augusta for the past five years.

Jason was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and four-wheeling. He loved to play lacrosse and had won several awards in that sport.

Jason was preceded in death by grandparents, Roger and Marilyn Chase.

Surviving are his parents, Stephen and Cheryl (Chase) Lajoie of Augusta; his companion, Jenny Potter of Sidney; his grandparents, Lily Stoddard of Pittston and Lorette and O’Neil Lajoie of Augusta; three brothers, Adam Stoddard, Brian Lajoie and Nathan Lajoie, all of Augusta; one sister, Sarah Lajoie of Augusta; Jenny Potter’s parents: Sherry Tillson and her husband Lee of Sidney and Brent Potter and his wife Debra of Mount Vernon; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visiting hours are 7-9 pm Tuesday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A funeral service will be offered 11:00 am Wednesday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Augusta with Rev. Dr. Peter Misner officiating. Burial will follow in Reynolds Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jason M. Stoddard Memorial Fund, c/o Susan Campbell, Trustee, RR 2, Box 7640, Augusta, ME 04330 or to the charity of your choice.

FAIRFIELD

Tanya L. Sprague - age 28 of Green Rd., and formerly of Klearview Manor, died unexpectedly Thursday, October 19, 2000 at her home. She was born in Waterville on September 15, 1972 the daughter of David and Sylvia (Wyman) Sprague.

Miss Sprague was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1993.

She was a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church, attended the Leaf Program in Waterville and was a volunteer at Mount St. Joseph's in Waterville and at several other local hospitals.

One of Tanya's wishes was for people to see the beauty in other people, to look beyond the physical and see beneath the surface. Be kind and love one another.

She was pre-deceased by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Dorothy Sprague.

Miss Sprague is survived by her parents, David and Sylvia (Wyman) Sprague of Belgrade Lakes; a brother, Kevin C. Sprague of San Diego, CA; her maternal grandparents, Myrtle and Elmer Wyman of Augusta; a very special friend, Betty Grant and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, October 22nd at the United Methodist Church in Belgrade Lakes. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Those who desire may make donations to: Belgrade Community Pre-School, P.O. Box 249, Belgrade Lakes, ME 04918.

AUGUSTA

Mildred M. Tarbox - age 79, of Eastern Avenue, died January 15, 2001 at Augusta Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Portland, Maine on September 15, 1921 the daughter of Arnold Tarbox and Sarah E. (Lovejoy) Tarbox.

Mildred was employed by Capitol Café for several years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arnold Tarbox, her mother, Sarah E. Tarbox Jones, a sister, Edna Rose and a brother Arthur Tarbox.

Survivors include a daughter, Eleanor Patrick of Fort Fairfield; a sister Doris Eichel of Augusta; a sister-in-law, Mary Tarbox of Augusta; one grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

No visiting hours or funeral services are planned. Spring burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta. Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta.

AUGUSTA

Donald J. “Popeye” Vigue – age 65, of Cedar Street, died October 21, 2000 at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a brief illness. Her was born in Augusta, Maine on June 1, 1935 the son of Alphonse Vigue and Laura (Baker) Vigue.

Mr. Vigue was educated in Augusta schools and had been employed by the City of Augusta Public Works Department for many years.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was an avid cribbage player, having won many cribbage tournaments.

Surviving are three brothers, Robert Vigue of Hallowell, Richard Vigue and Paul Vigue, both of Augusta; seven sisters, Constance Bernier, Pauline Genthner and Donna Watts, all of Saco, Nancy Harvey and Lorena Lewis, both of Fort Kent, Theresa Gemme of Monmouth and Lorette Bellavance of Richmond; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There are no public visiting hours and no funeral services planned. Following cremation, burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.
