AUGUSTA

Aubrey "Gunny" H. Wagner - age 66 of Eastern Ave., died Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at his home after a long illness. Though he grew up on Peak's Island, he was born in Madison on June 1, 1935 the son of Aubrey and Delphine (Fish) Wagner.

Mr. Wagner attended Portland Schools and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 until 1970, when he was honorably discharged at the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

He was employed at the Veterans Administration Medial and Regional Office Center, Togus for 10 years.

Mr. Wagner was a member of United Bikers of Maine, Military Order of the Purple Heart Assoc., U.S. First Recon Battalion Assoc., Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3137, Vietnam Dog Handlers Assoc., Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #887, American Legion Post #205, Vietnam Memorial Fund Assoc and Native American Assoc.

He was one of the first to recognize the Combat Veteran Dogs that were killed in action during Vietnam.

He loved motorcycles, playing pool, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and helping friends and brothers in need.

Mr. Wagner was pre-deceased by a son, Donny Wagner.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila K. (Herbert) Wagner of Augusta; an aunt, Josephine Nevers of Massachusetts and two cousins, Alphonse Brooks of Madison and Lee Nevers of Massachusetts.

Relatives and friends may visit today from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of the American Legion Post #205 are asked to meet at 7 PM to recite prayers for their departed member. A committal service will be held on Friday at noon in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery on Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta with Rev. Stephen Tolander, Chaplain at Togus, officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Vietnam Memorial Fund, 1360 Beverly Rd., Suite 300, Mclean, VA, 22101-3685.

AUGUSTA

Stanley F. Zuchowski – age 65 of Eastern Ave., died unexpectedly Friday, April 20, 2001 at the Veterans Administration Medical and Regional Office Center at Togus. He was born in Hartford, CT on March 12, 1936 the son of Stanley F. and Doris (Arel) Zuchowski.

Mr. Zuchowski was a graduate of South Hadley High School in South Hadley, MA and was a member of the Family Worship Center – Church of God in Augusta.

He had been employed at Maine Veterans Home for 10 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Zuchowski is survived by his wife of 32 years, JoAnn L. (Young) Zuchowski of Augusta; a brother, Robert Zuchowski of Messa, AZ; a sister, Dolores Danek of Gramby, MA; two step-sons, Ronald L. Tondreau and his wife Lisa of Moorpark, CA and Reginald P. Tondreau and his wife Pam of Sidney; two step-daughters, Linda Ganzha and her husband Valentin of Reseda, CA and Kathy L. Tondreau of South Passadena, CA; five step-grandchildren, a step-great-grandchild and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit on Sunday from 2-4 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Committal services will be held on Monday at 1 PM in the Fr. Leonard Leclair Memorial Chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

Rosemary Ashenfelter – age 79, of Fairway Lane and formerly of Wichita, Kansas, died peacefully August 20, 2001 at her home with her family at her side. She was born in Muskogee, OK on September 20, 1921 the daughter of Coburn Giboney and Rose (Wanko) Giboney.

Mrs. Ashenfelter graduated from Wichita High School East in 1937 and attended Wichita University and Kansas State University.

She was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life.

Besides being a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Augusta, Mrs. Ashenfelter was a member of Reach for Recovery and served on the Pine Tree Arboretum Board of Directors.

Surviving is her husband, Armand Ashenfelter of East Winthrop; one son, Dirck Ashenfelter, his wife France and her sons Nicholas & Christopher King; two daughters, Anne Savona and her husband Jack of Kennebunkport and Debra Hart of Winthrop; four grandchildren: Andrea Savona Brown and her husband Rick, Greg Savona, Erik Matthews Hart and Megan Anne Hart; and one great-grandson Lucas Andrew Brown.

Visiting hours are 6:30 - 8:30 PM Wednesday, August 22nd at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Thursday August 23rd at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Pine Tree State Arboretum, 153 Hospital Street, Augusta, ME 04330.

WINDSOR

Lucille J. Bastille - age 65, of the Lamson Road, died September 23, 2001 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, after a long illness. She was born in Augusta, Maine on March 3, 1936 the daughter of Adelbert Lachance and Bertha (Gilbert) Lachance.

Mrs. Bastille had been a homemaker in her own home for most of her life.

She traveled the world with her husband of 39 years, Wilfred "Will" Bastille, who was an officer in the U.S. Army.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Norman Lachance and a sister Simone Riendeau.

Survivors include her husband, Wilfred "Will" Bastille of Windsor; five sons & daughters: Ronald J. Lachance of Augusta; Ernest of Augusta, Jerry of Ohio, Debbie of Rome, ME and Patsy of Florida; three brothers, Robert Lachance of Augusta, Donald Lachance of Chelsea and Richard Lachance of Randolph; one sister, Pauline Riendeau of Windsor; two granddaughters, Tammy Peabody and Karen Trask; four great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Michael Trask and Allissa and Cody Peabody; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Wednesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

AUGUSTA

Gerard J. ”Lefty” Beaudoin – age 71, of Riverside Drive, and formerly of Glen Street, died August 12, 2001 at Maine Medical Center, Portland as a result of complications following heart surgery. He was born in Augusta, Maine on July 29, 1930 the son of Elizee C. Beaudoin and Pauline (Gilbert) Beaudoin.

Mr. Beaudoin was educated in Augusta schools and served honorably as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was employed as an electrician at Bath Iron Works for 23 years, retiring in 1980.

Gerard was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and a life member of the Calumet Club. He enjoyed family gatherings, vegetable gardening, playing cribbage, hunting with his brother Phil and nephews Raymond, Roger and Ricky in Carratunk and wintering in Florida. Gerard was also an avid Red Sox fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Emile Beaudoin who died during World War II, and Roland Beaudoin, who died on Aug. 1, 2000.

Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Nancy (Giroux) Beaudoin of Augusta; one son, William G. Beaudoin and his wife Cathy of Windsor; two daughters, Carol L. Latno and her companion Michael Payne and Jacqueline M. Thibodeau and her husband Dale, all of Augusta; four brothers, Philip, Robert, Omer and Alfred Beaudoin, all of Augusta; two sisters, Anita Lapointe of Vassalboro and Theresa Spears of Augusta; six grandchildren: Cody Beaudoin, Renee Beaudoin, Jacob Thibodeau, Brittney Thibodeau, Amanda Latno and Sophia Latno; special niece, Lucille Suitter and her husband Donald; special friends Junior and Muriel Lachance; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. Committal prayers will be offered at 12 noon on Friday, August 17th in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA, 01701-4688 or American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME, 04334-5615.

Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

MANCHESTER, MAINE

Harriet E. Blanche – age 92, of Prescott Road, Manchester, died August 6, 2001 at Country Manor Nursing Home, Coopers Mills, where she had been a patient since June. She was born in East Livermore, Maine on February 27, 1909 the daughter of Russell Knowles and Myra (Camwell) Knowles.

Mrs. Blanche attended Livermore Falls High School. Although she was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life, she had been employed for several years at Robinson’s Health Care Facility, Gardiner.

Mrs. Blanche was a member of North Manchester Meeting House Church, former member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebeccas of Mount Vernon and Starling Grange of Fayette.

She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Thompson; a daughter, Aldeah Rouillard; her brothers, Hermon and Heron Knowles and a sister, Ruby Lehto.

Surviving is her husband, Paul O. Blanche of Manchester who she married on Dec. 5, 1954; a sister, Helen Hopkins of Manchester, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are 7-9 PM Wednesday, August 8th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Thursday. Burial will be in Manchester Forks Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Manchester Meeting House Church, c/o Arlene Lebel - treasurer, 284 Prescott Road, Manchester, ME 04351.

Jeannette M. Bonenfant - age 81 of Franklin St., died Friday, August 17, 2001 at Maine Veterans Home, Augusta after a long illness. She was born in Augusta September 20, 1919 the daughter of Joseph P. and Aggie (Bonenfant) Gilbert.

Mrs. Bonenfant was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a member of Cushnoc Senior Citizens and the American Association of Retired Persons.

She had been employed at Bates Manufacturing Company-Edwards Division for several years but had been a homemaker for most of her life.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Arthur J. Bonenfant of Augusta; two sons, Paul Bonenfant and his wife Linda of Gardiner and Arthur J. Bonenfant, Jr. of Camas, WA; two daughters, Anne Lapointe and her husband Henry of Manchester and Rita Harrington of Harrison Township, MI; a brother, Joseph O. Gilbert of Augusta; two sisters, Anita Guerette of Augusta and Sister Theresa Gilbert of Biddeford Pool; two step-sisters, Anita Quirion and Therese Lapointe both of Augusta; eight grandchildren, Linda, Sharlene, Bridget, Jay, Derek, Jayson, Cristina and Reece; six great-grandchildren, Jesica, Sarah, Christopher, Nicole, Joshua and Gabriel; two step-grandchildren, Megan and Michael; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Monday, August 20th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 11 from St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Rd., Augusta.

Those who desire may make donations to either: Hospice Volunteers of Kennebec Valley, MaineGeneral Medical Center, 150 Dresden Avenue, Gardiner, ME 04345 or St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, 1 Kendall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

South China

Robert J. Burns, Sr. – age 69, of Route 3, died September 4, 2001 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, Waterville after a brief illness. He was born in Manhattan, New York on August 21, 1932 the son of Thomas Burns and Theresa (Carter) Burns.

Mr. Burns served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He was employed by the Manhattan Transit Authority as a bus driver for 20 years.

After moving to Maine, he volunteered his services at the Veterans Administration Center at Togus, Muskie Center in Waterville and MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Glenridge Drive in Augusta.

Mr. Burns was a member of the New York Transit Workers Union and a former member of Fitzgerald-Cummings American Legion Post of Augusta.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Grace T. Burns, a brother, Thomas Burns, a sister Carol Perry and a grandson Mathew J. Bell.

Surviving are three sons, Robert J. Burns, Jr. and his wife Gina of Windsor, Richard J. Burns of Portsmouth, NH and Patrick J. Burns of Manchester, NH; two daughters, Catherine Bell and her husband Richard of Windsor and Therese Barrett and her husband Michael also of Windsor; four sisters, Theresa Bedony of Ben Salem, PA, Loretta O’Donald of Toms River, NJ, Madlyn Oliver of Augusta and Arlene Wolfe of Philadelphia, PA; 3 step-sons; one step daughter; 12 grandchildren including his four “special angels” Nicole, Brad, Brooke and Kaitlyn; 6 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Committal prayers will be offered 9:00 AM Friday, Sept. 7th at the new Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery chapel, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. Memorial donations may be made to HealthReach Hospice, P.O. Box 829, Waterville, ME 04903-0829.

MILLINOCKET

Francis J. Cyr - age 84, of School Street, passed away Sept. 21, 2001 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. He was born in Old Town, ME on June 9, 1917 the son of Philias and Lydia (Violette) Cyr.

He graduated from Old Town High School and served in the U.S. Army during WW II.

Mr. Cyr was a retired Maine State Game Warden and a 50 year member of St. Martin of Tours Council #680 Knights of Columbus.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Cyr is survived by his wife, Blanche (Gardner) Cyr of Millinocket; a daughter, Pauline Hathaway and her husband James of Gardiner; 3 grandchildren, Anne Beaulieu and her husband John of Lewiston, Thomas Hathaway and wife Christy of Scarborough and David Hathaway and wife Stephanie of Turner; 6 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Hannah Beaulieu, Mike, Nate, Anna and Nicholas Hathaway; 3 sisters, Cecila Cyr of Murphys, CA, Edna Pochini of Arlington, MA and Mary Thomasilli of Rochester, NY , several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 7 brothers and 3 sisters.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Tuesday Sept. 25th, at Holy Family Church, 262 South Main St., Old Town. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Old Town. Please make donations to: St. Martin of Tours, Elevator Fund, 112 Maine Ave., Millinocket, ME 04462 or the Katahdin Sport Group. Envelopes will be available at the church.

WATERVILLE

Ola C. Dacey – age 94, of Highwood Street, and formerly of 14 Johnson St., Augusta, died Oct. 11, 2001 at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home. She was born in Augusta, ME on Oct. 29, 1906 the daughter of Merton Howard and Sadie (McGraw) Swift.

Mrs. Dacey was a comminicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Augusta and a member of St. Mary’s Guild. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Mrs. Dacey attended Augusta schools and graduated from St. Mary’s Convent in 1921, from Cony High School in 1925, Colby College class of 1929 & Gates Business College in 1930. She retired in 1967 after 23 years with the Internal Revenue Service, Augusta.

Previously, she was employed as a secretary for 7 years at the Maine Public Health Association (now known as the American Lung Association).

Her adopted brother, Charles Marlin Burnell Swift, preceded her in death.

Surviving are three nieces; Marguerite Swift Dubosque of Ipswich, MA, Alice Anne Swift Hutchinson, R.N. of North Whitefield, and Kathleen Swift Cyr of Lewiston; one nephew, C. James Swift of Buckfield; 8 grandnieces and grandnephews; Jennifer Brady R.N., Geoffrey Dubosque, Kristina Caruso, Lauren Dubosque, Shawn Galvgovitch, Amie Swift, Katie Sadie Swift and Dana deGuzman and his four children; also five great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; Hannah Dubosque, Geoffrey Christian Dubosque, Olivia Caruso, Matthew Brady, and Samuel Caruso.

Visiting hours are 1-2 PM Monday, Oct. 15th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 PM Monday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial will follow in the family lot, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s School, 56 Sewall Street, Augusta, ME 04330.
