AUGUSTA

Howard L. Towle – age 84, of Eastern Avenue, died October 22, 2001 at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a long illness. He was born in Thomaston, Maine on April 18, 1917 the son of George A. Towle and Edith (Harriman) Towle.

Mr. Towle served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by the Veterans Administration Medical & Regional Office Center at Togus for 28 years.

Mr. Towle was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church.

His wife, Claire (Violette) Towle, died in 1992. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Curtis in 1994.

Surviving is a son, Gary N. Towle of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren: Howard L. Towle of Sidney, Anne B. Towle of Lewiston and Melissa K. Nelson of Lewiston; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Loretta “Scottie” LeClair of Augusta and his very close friends, Art and Linda Buttrick of Augusta.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.

RUMFORD

Thomas E. Trice – age 79, of Hartford Street, died October 8, 2001 at the Veterans Hospital at Togus. He was born in Kingston, NY on Nov. 8, 1921 the son of William Trice and Jennie (Reinhardt) Trice.

Mr. Trice served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He had been employed by Franklin Savings Bank in Madison for several years and was previously employed by the Town of Esopus, NY in the Highway Department for many years.

Surviving is his wife, Catherine (Dugas) Trice of Rumford; one son, Thomas F. Trice of Rumford; and one granddaughter, Carmen Trice of Rumford.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, October 17th at the Church of the Nazarene, Weld Street, Dixfield.

Hallowell

Flora V. Turcotte - age 78, of Hallowell, and formerly of Bond Brook Road, Augusta, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at the Augusta Campus of MaineGeneral Medical Center with her family by her side.

She was born in Augusta, Maine on February 8, 1923, the daughter of George and Ethel (Ripley) Hill. She attended Augusta schools and prior to her retirement in 1988, she was employed at Statler Tissue Corp. for 46 years.

She married Adrian O. Turcotte on June 28, 1943 in Augusta, Maine. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Flora enjoyed local county fairs, especially those with harness racing as a featured event. She was happiest when in the company of family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her dogs, Cuddles, Meka, and Sam and her cat, Popcorn.

Flora was predeceased by her parents, husband, Adrian O. Turcotte (1970), sisters and brothers: Josephine Carey (1993), William (Bill) Hill (1992), Frank W. Hill (1989), Vincent Hill (1981), and George (Puddy) Hill (1976).

She will be dearly missed by her son, William L. Turcotte, and his wife, Suzanne, of Augusta; two granddaughters, Helene M. Turcotte, and her fiancé, Albert A. Routh III, of Gardiner; Jennifer J. Henderson, and her husband, Daniel L. Henderson of Augusta; and Helene and Jennifer’s mother, Ruth C. Turcotte of Augusta, several nieces, nephews, cousins and the residence and staff of Walter’s home in Hallowell.

Visiting hours will be from 11-12 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St. Augusta. A graveside service will immediately follow at Kling cemetery in Augusta, with Rev. Davis, of Green Street United Methodist Church, Augusta, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those who desire may give a remembrance gift to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330.

Augusta

Enid C. Veilleux – age 88 of Gray Birch Drive died Monday, August 13, 2001 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch Drive after along illness.

She was born in Augusta July 6, 1913 the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Gaudreault) Bolduc.

Mrs. Veilleux was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and for many years she had been employed at R.P. Hazzard Shoe Company and had formerly been employed at Hallowell Shoe Co. for 35 years.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Arthur H. Veilleux on December 11, 1991, also her son, Ronald Veilleux and her grandson, Michael Veilleux both State Troopers.

Survivors include a daughter, Anita Whitehouse and her husband George of Pittston; three granddaughters, Lori Hunt and her husband Philip, Susan Ackerman and her husband Steve and Starr Cloutier and her husband Sean; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Veilleux of Augusta; six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may visit Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 9 from St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St Augustine Cemetery, Townsend Road, Augusta.

AUGUSTA

Herve R. Veilleux – age 80 of Mt. Vernon Ave., died Friday, November 30, 2001 at Nicholson’s Longterm Care and Rehabilitation Center, Winthrop, after a long illness. He was born in St. Benoit, Canada on July 17, 1921 the son of Henri and Clara (Vallee) Veilleux.

Mr. Veilleux was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and had been employed by J. J. Nissen’s for over 40 years.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Annette J. (Roy) Veilleux, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Mr. Veilleux is survived by two sons, Claude and Steve Veilleux both of Augusta; two daughters, Claudette Bourassa and Carol Veilleux and her long time companion Craig Dube all of Augusta; two brothers, Benoit Veilleux of Canada and Gaetan Veilleux of Augusta; four sisters, Elaine Roy, Cecile Vallee. Gisele Dulac and Francoise Pepin all of Canada; 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.

AUGUSTA

Romeo T. Albert – age 69 of Dayton St., died unexpectedly Friday, June 7, 2002 at his home. He was born in St. David on March 7, 1933 the son of Eloi T. and Leonie (Dufour) Albert.

Romeo was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. For many years he served as the leader Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops.

A veteran of the United States Army, Romeo served as a communications technician during the Korean War.

After serving his country, Romeo received his Associates Degree in Drafting from Southern Maine Technical College in South Portland. He was employed by the State of Maine Department of Transportation for 34 years as a draftsman in the bridge design division.

Romeo was a member of the Maine State Employees Association, Abnaki Council #334 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus and Abnaki Assembly #346 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and was a former Chief Counselor of the Columbian Squires.

Romeo was a very generous and caring man who loved his family very much and will be missed by them dearly. He spent his summers working in his garden tending to his tomatoes and feeding the local birds and squirrels. Romeo was passionate about Maine and Acadian history and spent many years researching his family’s genealogy. One of Romeo’s favorite things was to work in his woodworking shop building just about anything requested by his family.

He was pre-deceased by a son, Gregory Albert in 1964, three brothers, Donat Albert, Leo Albert and Alphonse Albert and a sister, Rachel (Albert) Roy.

Romeo is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rose (Stasiak) Albert of Augusta; his son, Matthew S. Albert and his wife Christine of Portland; his daughter, Lisa R. Albert and her husband George Howard, II of Richmond; his sisters, Monique (Albert) Beaulieu of Portland, Cecile (Albert) Guerrette of Washburn, Marie Louise (Albert) Parent of Van Buren and Martha (Albert) Guerrette of St. David; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit on Monday, June 10th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of Abnaki Assembly #346 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Color Corps are asked to meet at 5:30 PM to prepare for the posting of the guard ceremony. Members of Abnaki Council #334 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at 6:30 PM to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 11th at 9 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pelton Hill, Manchester.

VASSALBORO

Isabelle Ames – age 87 of Route 3, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at Augusta Rehabilitation Center, Augusta after a long illness. She was born in Whitefield on December 21, 1914 the daughter of Fred and Grace (Gilcott) Ames.

Ms. Ames had been employed by American Woolen Mill for most of her life.

She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Ina Raymond and Arline Lewis.

Ms. Ames is survived by two sister, Winnifred Auld of Palermo and Mary Jones of Clinton.

There will be no public visiting hours or funeral service.

AUGUSTA

Paul J. Arbour – age 56, of West River Road, died May 2, 2002 at his home after a brief illness. He was born in Augusta, Maine on Sept. 28, 1945 the son of Joseph G. Arbour and Bertha M. (Parent) Arbour.

Mr. Arbour was educated in Augusta schools and was self-employed as a general contractor for many years. He was previously employed by Statler Tissue Company, R.P. Hazzard Shoe Co. and Hallowell Shoe Co.

Paul was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church of Augusta; Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks of Augusta; Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Surviving is his wife, Diana (Patenaude) Arbour of Augusta; his mother, Bertha Arbour of Augusta; two sons, Bruce P. Arbour and his wife Linda of Manchester and Brian J. Arbour of Augusta; two brothers, Donald J. Arbour and Richard L. Arbour, both of Augusta; three sisters, Wanita Thibodeau of Oxford, Constance Letendre of Enfield, CT and Diane Stetson of Augusta; one grandchild, Ashley Arbour of Manchester and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday, May 5th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to: American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

WINDSOR

Marion Frances Bartlett – age 55, of Route 32, died unexpectedly May 27, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. She was born in Rockland, ME on March 1, 1947 the daughter of Merritt Hyler and Ruth (Lermond) Hyler.

Marion was educated in Warren and Thomaston schools. She was self-employed with her husband Richard as a trainer and groomer, doing business as Barltett Stables in Windsor.

Her passions included horses, flowers and gardening.

Marion was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association, New England Harness Horseman’s Association, Maine Harness Horseman’s Association and the Maine Breeders Association.

Her brother, Austin Hyler, and her parents preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband, Richard N. Bartlett, Sr. of Windsor; a son, Jeffrey Bruce Pease of Appleton; two daughters, Tammy Strout of Windsor and Tiffany Pease of Pompano Beach, FL; a step-son, Richard N. Bartlett, Jr. of Windsor; four step-daughters, Sonia Bartlett and Tammy Duguay, both of Windsor, Doreen Bartlett of Augusta and Lisa Hughes of Vassalboro; two brothers, Malcolm Hyler and Edwin Hyler, both of Thomaston; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday, May 29th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, where a funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Windsor.

AUGUSTA

Alfred N. Beaudoin – age 73 of Northern Ave., died Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center at Gray Birch, After a long illness. He was born in Augusta on July 7, 1929 a son of Elizee and Pauline (Gilbert) Beaudoin.

Mr. Beaudoin was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, Bath Iron Works Union and a Life Member of Le Club Calumet.

He had been employed by Bath Iron Works for 17 years and previously worked as a Landscaper and Tree Surgeon in both Maine and New Hampshire for many years.

Mr. Beaudoin loved flower and vegetable gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lucille (Marceau) Beaudoin of Augusta; three sons, Andre Beaudoin of Augusta, Patrick Beaudoin and his wife Lynn of Harrison and James Beaudoin and his wife Maria of Australia; two daughters, Kathleen Fuller and her husband David of Augusta and Elizabeth Williams and her husband Robert of Buxton; two step-sons, William Lahaye and his wife Jane of Candia, NH and Anthony Lahaye and his wife Melissa of Pittston; three brothers, Robert Beaudoin, Omer Beaudoin and Philip Beaudoin all of Augusta; two sisters, Anita Lapointe of Vassalboro and Theresa Spears of Augusta; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 30th at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial will be in St. Augustine cemetery at the convenience of the family.
