AUGUSTA

Marie Edith Dostie – age 97, formerly of Mt. Vernon Avenue, died July 31, 2002 at Augusta Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Augusta, Maine on April 23, 1905 the daughter of Augustin Cloutier and Angelina (Mathieu) Cloutier.

Mrs. Dostie was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She had been employed by Bates Manufacturing Company for 20 years and by E.E. Taylor Shoe Company for 10 years while raising 12 children.

She was an extrodinary person with many natural talents. She could tat, crochet, sew, quilt and make braided and hooked rugs. As a young mother, she would make many of her children’s clothes. Over the years, in her “spare” time, she tatted beautiful ladies handkerchieves, crocheted countless afghans and made about 100 quilts. She shared most of these items with family and friends.

Marie Edith was predeceased by two husbands, Albert Soucy and Alonzo Dostie. She was also preceded in death by a son, Roger Soucy and a daughter, Ann Marie Gagne.

Surviving are five sons, Herman Soucy and John Soucy of Largo, FL, Rene Soucy of Manchester, NH, George Soucy of Belgrade, and Arthur Soucy of Mt. Vernon; five daughters, Albertine Labbe, Theresa Smith, Gloria Fleming and Rose Couture, all of Augusta and Constance Beckim of Gardiner; one brother, Rosario Cloutier of North Whitefield; two sisters, Marion Fortin and Reinette Dearborn both of Augusta; one step-son, Gabriel Dostie; two step-daughters, Rachael Violette and Pauline Gauthier; 42 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours are 3-5 & 7-9 PM Sunday, August 4th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:00 AM Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bread of Life Ministries, 157 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330 or American Diabetes Association, Maine – Memorial Processing Center, P.O. HANFORD, CA
Rena Margarete Drouin of Lemoore, CA passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 in a Hanford,
CA Convalescent Hospital at the age of 89 years. She was born in Winthrop, ME and had lived in the Lemoore area for the past 8 years.

She was employed by Hallowell Shoe Co. in Hallowell, ME as a shoemaker for 30 years.
Rena is survived by a son, Lionel Delaware and his wife Anne of Lemoore, CA; 2 daughters,
Jeannie and husband Sonny Pinkham of Gardiner, ME and Carol & husband Darrell Weaver of
Phoenix, AZ;. 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Norcross of
Augusta, ME and a sister, Leila Priest of Waldoboro, ME.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 5th from 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME

Remembrances may be made in her memory to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 215, Lemoore, CA, 93245.

AUGUSTA
Mallary Taylor Dulac – age 16, of Davis Street, was taken from us on June 13, 2002 at Maine Medical Center, Portland as the result of an automobile accident in Sidney. She was born in Augusta, Maine on September 18, 1985 the daughter of Ernest N. Dulac and Lorie Greenberg.
Mallary just completed her sophomore year at Cony High School. While at Cony, she had been on the track team, earned a varsity letter in field hockey and basketball.

She was employed at the Roseland Restaurant and Sunset Market. She had planned to teach field hockey and basketball at summer camps this year.

Mallary was part of the Eastern Maine Finalist Championship and a member of the French Club.

Surviving are her father, Ernest N. Dulac of Augusta; her mother, Lorie Greenberg of Augusta; a sister, Samantha J. Dulac of Augusta; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Chambers of Manheim, PA; paternal grandparents, Sharon and Kenneth Dulac of Augusta; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, her kindred spirit Sacha Greenberg of Maynard, Mass., who shared the same birthday as Mallary and many special friends and loved ones.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 pm Sunday, June 16th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 17 in the gymnasium at Cony High School. Burial will be in Forest Grove cemetery in Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cony Sports Boosters, explicitly for the Cony Field Hockey program and/or Cony Girls Basketball program.

VASSALBORO

Theodore R. “Ted” Durgan – age 83, of Cushnoc Road, died July 17, 2002 at Augusta Rehabilitation Center, Augusta after a long illness. He was born in Sherman, Maine on October 21, 1918 the son of Charles H. Durgan and Mary Ellen (McNally) Durgan.

Mr. Durgan graduated from Sherman Mills High School and served honorably as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was employed by the Veterans Administration at Togus for several years. He was previously employed by the U.S. Postal Service, Capital Lumber Co., Cives Steel and several area farms.

Ted was a handyman who would help his friends and relatives with just about any project. He enjoyed floral gardening, playing chess and cribbage. Ted won many bowling trophies and was an avid hunter and trapper.

Mr. Durgan was a member of Riverside Congregational Church of Vassalboro, Kora Temple, Kennebec Valley Shrine Club and Bethlehem Masonic Lodge #35.

Surviving is his wife, Phyllis (Rogers) Durgan of Vassalboro; one daughter, Jane Vivian Cloutier and her husband Dan of Vassalboro; one brother, Dean A. Durgan of Winthrop; two sisters, Lucy Sleeper of Sherman Mills and Dorothy Bouchard of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren: Lance Daniel Cloutier and his partner Jenny Champagne and their children Mikaylah, Moriah, Bailey Cloutier, and Michelle Marie Cloutier and her partner Jack Hopper; and their children David, Zachary and Kaleb Hopper as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are 7-9 PM Friday, July 20th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, Maine where members of Bethlehem Masonic Lodge are asked to meet at 7:30 pm for a masonic service. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday at Riverside Congregational Church, Vassalboro with Rev. Lawrence “Bud” Merkens, officiating. Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery at a later date.

AUGUSTA

Cecile L. Elcik – age 86, of Newland Avenue, died Friday May 17, 2002 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Facility at Glenridge Drive after a long illness.

She was born in St. Benoit, P.Q. Canada on January 22, 1916 the daughter of Joseph and Clementine (Crete) Lagueux. Mrs. Elcik was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and a Charter Member of 50 plus years of St. Agnes Circle Daughters of Isabella.

She had been employed at Commonwealth Shoe Company in Gardiner and Taylor Shoe Company in Augusta, both for several years. She was a self employed seamstress and had owned and operated Cecile’s Tailor Shop on Water Street, Augusta for 30 years.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Richard A. Elcik of Augusta; a daughter, Cheryl A. Heath and her husband Joseph R. of Pittston; three sons: Ronald J. Randall and his wife Mary of Augusta, Robert F. Randall and his wife Bonnie of Brewer and Mark R. Elcik and his wife Deborah of West Gardiner; a brother, Gerard Lagueux and his wife Lucienne of Augusta; also eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Elcik was predeceased by her first husband, Perley E. Randall in 1952. She was also predeceased by nine sisters and two brothers.

Visiting hours are on Tuesday, May 21st from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of St. Agnes Circle Daughters of Isabella are asked to meet at 7 P.M. to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt Hope Cemetery, Augusta. Those who desire, may make donations in her memory to St. Andrew’s Church Capital Campaign, RR 12, Box 1350, Augusta, ME 04330.

Augusta

Tadako Gagnon – age 75, of Hayden Road, Augusta died July 17, 2002 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Glenridge Drive after a long illness.

She was born on January 28, 1927 in Tayook City, Japan.

Tadako was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life.

She was a member of the Worromontogus Lake Association, Fox Glen Snowmobile Club, Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post # 9 Gardiner and a life member of Sportsman Alliance of Maine.

Survivors include her husband, Roger G. Gagnon of Augusta, and one nephew.

At her request, there will be no public visitation. A private graveside service is scheduled at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.

AUGUSTA

Lucienne G. Genest – age 77, a longtime resident of Townsend Rd., died June 21, 2002 at her home following a long illness. She was born in Augusta, Maine on July 28, 1924 the daughter of Edward Fontaine and Virginia (Grenier) Fontaine.

Mrs. Genest was educated in Augusta schools and had been self-employed with her husband, who owned and operated Bolley’s Famous Franks in Waterville for many years.

Lucienne was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Ladies of St. Anne Society and Cushnoc Senior Citizens, where she had served as Sergeant-at-Arms.

Her husband, Joseph Guy Genest, died June 14, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Williams.

Surviving is a son, Donald G. Genest of Augusta; a daughter, Sherrian Pare of Augusta; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At her request, there will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the old Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, 5 Kendall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

AUGUSTA

Wayne P. Gero – age 52, of South Belfast Avenue, died unexpectedly July 26, 2002 in Fayette. He was born in Greensboro, NC on July 17, 1950 the son of Alvah Gero and Yvonne (Poulin) Gero.

Wayne had been employed by Bath Iron Works as a welder for several years.

He was a member of United Bikers of Maine.

Surviving is a son, Brashua Gero of Manchester, NH; two brothers, Roland A. Soucy of Franklin and Joseph Soucy of Nashua, NH; two sisters, Carmen Peters of Hudson, FL and Dolly Tyndall of Monroe, NC; and a special cousin, Shirley Rocque of Augusta.

There are no public visiting hours scheduled. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

WAYNE

James J. “J.J.” Gorman – age 39 of Pond Rd., died unexpectedly Thursday, June 13, 2002 in Augusta. He was born in Cherry Point, NC on January 3, 1963 the son of Edmund X. and Carmen G. (Conlogue) Gorman.

Mr. Gorman was a graduate of Cony High School and was a member of Wayne Community Church.

He was pre-deceased by his father, Edmund X. Gorman in 1992.

Mr. Gorman is survived by two brothers, Michael X. Gorman and his wife Roberta of Jacksonville, FL and Matthew L. Gorman and his wife Shelly of Evansville, ID; three sisters, Patricia A. Scanlon of Chicago, IL, Elizabeth P. Jones and her husband Lee of Winthrop and Terri E. Maxim of Augusta; 11 nieces and nephews, Kathryn Scanlon, Victoria Scanlon, Joshua Jones, Kenneth Scanlon, Nicholas Gorman, Justin Maxim, Sean Scanlon, Joey Gorman, Christian Gorman, Kristie Jones and Hailee Jones; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit on Tuesday, June 18th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday June 19th at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Wayne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

AUGUSTA

Flora A. Gray – age 85, of Spring Road, died Dec. 23, 2001 at MaineGeneral Medical Center. She was born in Sheridan, Maine on July 11, 1916 the daughter of William Reuben White and Nora (Loubier) White.

Flora was a 1936 graduate of Ashland High School and was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life.

She loved to feed the birds. Among her other interests were playing Beano and knitting.

Flora was a member of Maine State Retirees Association and the South China/Weeks Mills Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurel F. Gray; her parents; five brothers, Joseph, Lewis, Lyndley, Edward and her twin brother, Volney White; and her five sisters, Lucy Prescott, Eunice Felt, Zoye Bridgham, Beatrice White and Arlene Meader.

Surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins including two special nieces; Judy Sargent and Sandra Bowie and her husband Douglas.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, Dec. 27th at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Augusta. Spring burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chris Bowie Memorial Fund, 353 Maine Avenue, Farmingdale, ME 04344.
