AUGUSTA

Yvette A. Guimond – age 94, formerly of 49 State Street, died July 10,2002 at Augusta Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born in St. Methode, P.Q., Canada on March 22, 1908 the daughter of Alphonse Rodrigue and Suzanne (Cyr) Rodrigue.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Guimond was employed by Edwards Manufacturing Company for 40 years. She had also worked as a cleaning lady at the State House and Augusta General Hospital for several years.

Mrs. Guimond was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Her husband, Eugene Guimond, died in 1966. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lionel Rodrigue and Joseph Rodrigue; and five sisters, Dora Melanson, Eglantine Lambert, Marie Forget, Margaret Castonguay and Grace Rodrigue.

Surviving are two sons, Eugene E. Guimond and his wife Joan, and Laurier Guimond and his wife Jean, all of Augusta; one daughter, Jeannette (Guimond) Boucher and her husband Alphonse of Augusta; one brother, Jean “Babe” Rodrigue and his wife Shirley of Augusta; two sisters, Edith Chasse and Mary Jane Paradis, both of Augusta; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

There are no public visiting hours scheduled. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Friday July 12th at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, One Kendall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

Waterville

Lily E. Whitney Hinkley – 73 of 22 Center Street, Augusta died Thursday at Mid Maine Medical Center-Thayer Unit after a brief illness. She was born in Liberty June 26, 1928 the daughter of Edward P. and Glennie (Bailey) Hannan.

Mrs. Hinkley had been employed for a time at Taylor Shoe Company and Hallowell Shoe Company but for most of her life had been a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her first husband Stilman Whitney.

Survivors include her husband David Ernest Hinkley of Augusta; two sons: Lincoln Whitney of Washington and Timothy Whitney and his wife Linda of Union, A daughter Althea L. Leach Irving of Union; a sister; Althea Palanza of Buckfield; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also several nieces and nephews.

At her request, there will be no hours of visitation or viewing, a graveside service is scheduled for 2 o’clock on June 29th at Chadwick Hill Cemetery, South China.

Those who desire, may make donations in her memory to the Charity of their choice.

CHELSEA

Burleigh M. James – age 74, of Townhouse Road, died July 1, 2002 at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Augusta, Maine on August 4, 1927 the son of Leland E. James and Doris (Buker) James.

Burleigh was educated in Augusta schools and served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Prior to his retirement, he was a self-employed building contractor doing business as B.M. James & Son for over 25 years.

Burleigh was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed building and remodeling.

Surviving is his wife of 41 years, Barbara (Gilley) James of Chelsea; one son, John B. James of Portland; one daughter, Barbara Ann Gero of North Whitefield; two grandchildren, Desiree Gero of Augusta and Hunter Gero of North Whitefield; four brothers, David James of Coopers Mills, Donald James of Chelsea, Robert James of Scarborough and Ronald James of Jefferson; seven sisters, Frances Brann of Weeks Mills, Jeanne Cunningham of Pittston, Leona James address unknown, Ruth Merrill of New York, Kathleen Pushard of Augusta, Gloria Rodrigue of Pittston, and Janice Sirois of Connecticut, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burleigh was preceded in death by a brother: Leland James Jr., and three sisters: Betty Andrews,

Helen Robichaud and Dorothy.

There will be no public visiting hours. Committal prayers will be offered at the convenience of the family at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta with Rev. Stephen Tollander, chaplain at Togus, officiating.

The family would appreciate memorial donations to: Kennebec Valley Humane Society, Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330 or HealthReach Hospice, P.O. Box 829, Waterville, ME 04903-0829.

AUGUSTA

Edward M. Jurczak – age 75 of Windy St., died unexpectedly Friday, May 10, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. He was born in Nemacoln, PA on April 29, 1927 a son of Joseph and Julia (Wuzny) Jurczak.

Mr. Jurczak served in the U.S. Military during World War II and Korea.

He was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Mr. Jurczak had been employed by the VA Hospital in Togus for 20 years, retiring in 1987.

He was pre-deceased by a brother, Frank Jurczak and a sister, Helen Hoover.

Mr. Jurczak is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lucille B. (Dostie) Jurczak of Augusta; three sons, Gilbert Lapierre and his wife Donna of North Monmouth, David Lapierre and his wife Melanie of Belgrade and James Jurczak of Manchester, NH; four daughters, Dianne Raby and her husband Michael of Port Charlotte, FL, Linda Veilleux and her husband William of Augusta, Paula Fortin and her husband Timothy of Augusta and Tammy Bigelow and her husband Christopher of Randolph; a brother, Joseph Jurczak of Pennsylvania; four sisters, Mary Kostura, Betty Salvi, Dorothy Kozel and Loretta Uglick all of Pennsylvania; 18 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, May 15th at 1 PM in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

Those who desire may make donations to: St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, 5 Kendall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

WINDSOR

Virgil W. LaBree – age 64, of Route 17, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at the Veterans Administration Center at Togus after a long illness. He was born in Kezar Falls, Maine on September 10, 1937 the son of Frederick W. LaBree and Flora Mae (Day) LaBree.

Mr. LaBree graduated from South Portland High School in 1956 and later attended the University of Maine at Augusta.

Virgil served in the Maine National Guard, the U.S. Navy for 4 years and the U.S. Army for 17 years. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1977 as a Sergeant First Class. Among his awards was the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Mr. LaBree was employed by the Veterans Administration at Togus for 8 years. He was previously employed by Maine Veterans Home for 2 years. Virgil had also owned and operated This & That Tiny Greenhouse Boutique for 2 years.

He was a member of Peoples Methodist Church of South Portland, Maine Greenhouse Association, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a former Boy Scout leader for 15 years with various troops. Virgil was an Emergency Medical Technician, an EMTA and an EMT state examiner. He was also a diehard Patriots fan!

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jean M. (Doucette) LaBree of Windsor; one son, Theodore W. LaBree and his wife Claudia of East Vassalboro; one daughter, Deborah J. Foss of Windsor; one brother, Lt. Col. (ret) Ivan LaBree and his wife Mona of Augusta; four sisters, Lorraine Rossnagle and Freda Avery, both of Cape Elizabeth, Evangeline Franceschelli and her husband John of Dunmore, PA and Verna Repass and her husband Robert of So. Carolina; four granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are 6-8 PM Friday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, where a funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 8. Committal prayers will be offered 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 11th in the chapel of Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.

Christine G. Laverne – age 89 of Western Ave., died Friday, June 14, 2002 at Nicholson’s Nursing Home. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 24, 1912 the daughter of Celestin and Louise( Bruhl) Laverne.

Miss Laverne was a graduate of Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn, NY.

She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Augusta.

Miss Laverne was a legal secretary on Wall St. in New York City for 35 years.

She is survived by her close friend, Lucie “Bonnie” Smallridge of Winthrop.

At her request, there will be no public visiting hours. Burial will be in Manchester Forks Cemetery, Manchester, ME.

AUGUSTA

Orrin D. Lee – age 65, of North Belfast Ave., died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center-August Campus, after a long illness. He was born in East Millinocket, February 24, 1937 the son of Perley and Jessie (Morris) Lee, Sr.

Mr. Lee was the owner and operator of O.D. Lee Construction Company of Augusta which he started in 1974 and worked right up to the present. He had been previously employed by Sargent Construction for 21 years. Orrin worked in Construction his entire life.

He was a member of the Maine Draft Horse and Ox Association and a member of the Windsor Fair Association. He enjoyed snowmobiles and hunting and had been involved in the Fox Glenn Snowmobile Club, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and other clubs. He had a passion for his horses, pulling and owning Belgian Draft Horses was his favorite hobby since 1980. He has been involved in fairs and the Eastern Draft Horse Association and the Maine Draft Horse and Ox Association. Orrin was a kind hearted and generous person and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carmen (Paul) Lee of Augusta; a son, Orrin D. Lee, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Augusta; a daughter, Brenda Cote and her husband Tim of Calhoun, GA; a sister, Delores Jones of East Millinocket; three grandchildren, Christina Cote, Meredith Lee and Maddy Lee; also several nieces and several special nephews.

He was pre-deceased by brothers Emery Lee, Eugene Lee, Charlie Lee and Perley Lee, Jr. and sisters Margaret Kimball, Pauline Sullivan, Hilda Craig and Evelyn Powers.

Friends may visit today from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 PM with the Rev. Timothy Brady of the Church Hill Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta.

FARMINGDALE

Doris R. Levasseur – age 61 of Litchfield Rd. and formerly of Augusta, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus after a long illness. She was born in Augusta on March 12, 1941 the daughter of Robert and Alice (Quirion) Jacques.

Mrs. Levasseur was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a graduate of Cony High School, class of 1959.

She had been employed by Hallowell, Taylor and Hazzard Shoe Co.’s for most of her life.

Mrs. Levasseur was a member of the North American Family Campers Assoc., Pine Tree Chapter # 33.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest O. Levasseur, Jr. of Farmingdale; a son, Richard R. Levasseur of Augusta; a brother, Roger P. Jacques of Augusta; an uncle and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, June 6th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 7th at 9 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta.

Burial will follow in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.

Those who desire may make donations to St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, 5 Kendall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

AUGUSTA

George E. Malo – age 72 of Cony Rd. and formerly of Washington St., died Sunday, July 21, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus after a long illness. He was born in Lewiston on February 22, 1930 the son of Alfred and Alma (Bernier) Malo.

Mr. Malo had been employed by Bridges Service for several years and had previously worked at Maine American Vault Company for 20 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Mr. Malo was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #205.

He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Madeline Lajoie and Jeanne Bilodeau.

Mr. Malo is survived by two sisters, Martha Fink of Portland and Cecile Anderson of Nashville, TN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial mass will be celebrated Monday, July 29th at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave.

Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
