CHELSEA

Marie Leona Sirois – age 71 of Hemlock Ridge Rd. died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at her home after a long illness. She was born in St. Andre-de-Restigouche, a logging town on the southern part of the Gaspe Peninsula in the Province of Quebec, Canada on April 1, 1931 a daughter of Joseph and Marie Blanche (Lamontagne) Goupil.

Mrs. Sirois was a home maker for most of her life but had worked for 11 years at the Augusta Convalescent Center.

She was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society and St. Paul Cursillo’s.

Mrs. Sirois was pre-deceased by her husband of 42 years, Joseph P. Sirois; a son, Roland Sirois; two daughters, Blanch Sirois and Geneva Sky Raven and a sister, Patricia Goupil.

She is survived by four sons, Norman J. Sirois of Lebanon, Maurice Sirois of Chelsea, Raymond Sirois of Tennessee and Pierre Sirois of Augusta; seven daughters, Joanne Deschaine of Grand Isle, Reina Dennis of Gardiner, Therese Peasley of Pittston, Elizabeth Cote of Florida, Cecilia Taylor of Pittston, Bernadette Thibodeau of Dexter and Celine Goupil of Canada; a brother, Donald Goupil of Canada; four sisters, Sister Geneva Goupil, Julia Goupil, Gemma Goupil and Renee Goupil all of Canada; 30 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit on Thursday, August 1st from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 3 PM and members of St. Paul Cursillo’s are asked to meet at 3:30 PM to offer prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta.

Burial and committal prayers will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.

Those who desire may make donations to American Cancer Society, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240.

ROME

Theresa P. Smith – age 72 of Rt. 27 passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002 quietly at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer with her husband of 51 years, Richard, by her side. Theresa was born in Augusta on October 5, 1929 the daughter of Wilfred and Lucienne (Giroux) Boucher.

She attended Augusta schools, graduated from Cony High School and has lived in Rome for the past 20 years.

Theresa loved the solitude and the beauty of the outdoors. One of her favorite places was her camp on Moosehead Lake where she shared many happy times with her family.

Theresa was pre-deceased by her only child, Francis D. “Frankie” Smith, who passed away tragically in an automobile accident in 1969 and by her father, Wilfred Boucher.

She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Smith of Rome; her mother, Lucienne (Giroux) Boucher of Augusta; three brothers, Harold Boucher and his wife Sandra, Vincent Boucher and his wife Linda and William Boucher all of Augusta; an aunt, Muriel Giroux of Augusta and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit today from 2-4 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held at 9 AM Tuesday. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.

AUGUSTA

Howard D. Stevenson – age 94, of Riverside Drive, died Sunday, November 25, 2001 at MaineGeneral Medical Center – Augusta, after a brief illness. He was born in Somerville, MA on September 11, 1907 the son of William R. and Lilla (Spence) Stevenson.

Mr. Stevenson attended school in Medford and Everett, MA and received diplomas from Professor Herrick’s School of Civil Service and Purdue University on Pest Control Technology.

He founded Modern Pest Services, Inc. of Augusta and operated the firm from 1945 until 1973.

Mr. Stevenson was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Florida and was a lifetime honorary member of the National Pest Management Assoc.

In 1999 he was given the Bartlett W. Eldridge Award, the highest recognition the New England Pest Management Association can bestow.

He was an avid motorcyclist & yachtsman and had been a member of the Wawanock Power Squadron. He also enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Rangeley, Maine.

Mr. Stevenson was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jennie A. (Maskewich) Stevenson of Augusta; a son, Richard E. Stevenson and his wife Bonnie of Boothbay; two daughters, Carol A. MacDowell of Chelsea and Joan M. Thomas and her husband Dr. Richard Thomas of Bangor; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may visit on Monday, Nov. 26th from 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester.

Those who desire may make donations to: Sweetser Childrens Home, Saco, ME.

AUGUSTA

F. Lawrence Stuart – age 92 of Linwood Ave. and formerly of Farmingdale, died Friday, June 21, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta after a brief illness. He was born in Hallowell on September 2, 1909 the son of Herman H. and Blanche (Gould) Stuart.

Mr. Stuart was a graduate of Melrose High School in Melrose, MA. He attended Bowden College for several years and graduated from Tufts University, earning his Bachelors Degree in Education.

He was an educator and principal at various schools throughout Maine. He was the owner of Wildwind Sporting Camps in Oquossoc for some time. He was founding Executive Director of the Maine Conservation School in Bryant Pond, was the Director, then Commissioner of the Maine Parks and Recreation Department from 1958-1975 and was appointed to serve on the Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission by President Lyndon Johnson.

Mr. Stuart was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church where he was a member of the St. Andrew’s Men’s Club and was also a former Mason and Shriner.

He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Gertrude (Quinby) Stuart in 1958 and a sister, Barbara Standish.

Mr. Stuart is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gertrude C. (Collins) Stuart of Augusta; a son, Donald Q. Stuart of Union; a daughter, Nancy Lou Heath and her husband Ed of Augusta; a sister, Jane M. Lancaster of South Portland; two grandsons, Michael Heath and his wife Paulie of South China and David Heath of Augusta; 5 great-grandchildren and several nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9 AM at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, St. Andrew’s St., Augusta. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester.

AUGUSTA

Christopher L. “Roostaa” Worthing – age 19 of Civic Center Dr., died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 15, 2002. He was born in Augusta on January 13, 1983 the son of Cookie Bowness and Clifton Worthing, Jr.

Mr. Worthing attended Augusta schools and was presently employed by Fenderson and Howe Construction.

He enjoyed playing many sports, including football, lacrosse and most recently golf.

Mr. Worthing is survived by his mother, Cookie Bowness and her companion Darrel Terranova; his father, Clifton Worthing, Jr.; three brothers, Anthony Worthing, Dominic Worthing and Benjamin Worthing all of Augusta; maternal grandmother, Janet Hall and her husband Edwin of Chelsea; maternal grandfather, Robert McLaughlin of North Carolina; paternal grandmother Annette Reed and her husband Buzz of Chelsea; paternal grandfather Clifton Worthing, Sr. of Pittston; many aunts and uncles, several cousins and close friends, Jessie Cox, Nick Chabot, Ryan “Goose” Gosselin and many more.

There will be no public visiting hours. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 20th at 1 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

WINTHROP, MAINE

Catherine C. “Kay” Wysocki – also known as “Sarge”, age 71, of Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center, and formerly of Margaret Chase Smith House, Augusta, Maine died June 29, 2002 at Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine after a brief illness. She was born in Worcester, Mass. on December 24, 1930 the daughter of Anthony Yvanauskas and Catherine (Rutkevicz) Yvanauskas.

Mrs. Wysocki was a graduate of Commerce High School of Worcester, Mass. She served honorably as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

Prior to her retirement, Catherine was employed by Shaw’s Supermarkets in Augusta for over 15 years. She was previously employed by Mammoth Mart and Kings Department store for several years.

Mrs. Wysocki was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church of Augusta.

Surviving are two sons, Norman Wysocki and his wife Catherine M. of Chelsea, Maine and Anthony Wysocki and his wife Cindy also of Chelsea; one daughter, Michele Whitten and her husband Richard of Waterville, Maine; one sister, Maryann Dodge and her husband Harold of Bellows Falls, VT; seven grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Tuesday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 AM Wednesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will be in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to: Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center, 457 Old Lewiston Road, Winthrop, ME 04364.

AUGUSTA

Madeline M. Arnold – age 81 of Glenridge Dr., died Saturday, September 28, 2002 at MaineGeneral Health and Rehabilitation Center – Glenridge Dr., Augusta following a long illness. She was born in Vassalboro on July 17, 1921 the daughter of Timothy and Virginia (Bowman) Harrington.

Mrs. Arnold had been employed at the VA Hospital in Togus for over 30 years.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Clyde W. Arnold.

Mrs. Arnold is survived by 2 sons, Dana Arnold of Readfield and David Arnold of Melville, MA; 2 daughters, Gloria Starks of Brooklyn, CT and Tamara Getchell of Geneva, FL; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

There will be no public visiting hours or funeral service.

CHESTERVILLE

Gregory R. Baker – age 42 of Zion Hill Rd., died unexpectedly Thursday, September 26, 2002. He was born in Bristol, CT on June 2, 1960 the son of John E. and Elaine M. (Robinson) Baker.

Mr. Baker was a graduate of Cony High School class of 1978 and earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Mid-State College in Augusta.

He had been employed by Bell Mfg. In Lewiston for the last few years and had previously worked at Carlton Woolen Mills and Hallowell Shoe Co.

Mr. Baker was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Augusta.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding his bike, working on his land with his John Deere tractor, snowboarding, reading and antiques.

Mr. Baker is survived by his parents, John E. Baker and his wife Sally of Crawford and Elaine M. (Robinson) Baker of Augusta; three brothers, John W. Baker and his wife Tammy of New Sharon, William A. Baker and his companion Brenda Rowe of Augusta and Scott F. Baker of Augusta; a sister, Karin Boutin and her husband Michael of Augusta; a step-brother, Jody Pease and his wife of Livermore; a step-sisters, Rosanne Lund and her husband Mark and their family in Livermore; four nieces, Darcy, Kylie, Christina and Amanda Baker; two nephews, Dustin Tisdale and Michael Baker and several aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Monday, September 30th from 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9 AM at the First Church of the Nazarene, Nazarene Dr., Augusta.

AUGUSTA

Alfred N. Beaudoin – age 73 of Northern Ave., died Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center at Gray Birch, After a long illness. He was born in Augusta on July 7, 1929 a son of Elizee and Pauline (Gilbert) Beaudoin.

Mr. Beaudoin was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, Bath Iron Works Union and a Life Member of Le Club Calumet.

He had been employed by Bath Iron Works for 17 years and previously worked as a Landscaper and Tree Surgeon in both Maine and New Hampshire for many years.

Mr. Beaudoin loved flower and vegetable gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lucille (Marceau) Beaudoin of Augusta; three sons, Andre Beaudoin of Augusta, Patrick Beaudoin and his wife Lynn of Harrison and James Beaudoin and his wife Maria of Australia; two daughters, Kathleen Fuller and her husband David of Augusta and Elizabeth Williams and her husband Robert of Buxton; two step-sons, William Lahaye and his wife Jane of Candia, NH and Anthony Lahaye and his wife Melissa of Pittston; three brothers, Robert Beaudoin, Omer Beaudoin and Philip Beaudoin all of Augusta; two sisters, Anita Lapointe of Vassalboro and Theresa Spears of Augusta; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 30th at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial will be in St. Augustine cemetery at the convenience of the family.
