AUGUSTA

Yvette A. Guimond – age 94, formerly of 49 State Street, died July 10,2002 at Augusta Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born in St. Methode, P.Q., Canada on March 22, 1908 the daughter of Alphonse Rodrigue and Suzanne (Cyr) Rodrigue.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Guimond was employed by Edwards Manufacturing Company for 40 years. She had also worked as a cleaning lady at the State House and Augusta General Hospital for several years.

Mrs. Guimond was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Her husband, Eugene Guimond, died in 1966. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lionel Rodrigue and Joseph Rodrigue; and five sisters, Dora Melanson, Eglantine Lambert, Marie Forget, Margaret Castonguay and Grace Rodrigue.

Surviving are two sons, Eugene E. Guimond and his wife Joan, and Laurier Guimond and his wife Jean, all of Augusta; one daughter, Jeannette (Guimond) Boucher and her husband Alphonse of Augusta; one brother, Jean “Babe” Rodrigue and his wife Shirley of Augusta; two sisters, Edith Chasse and Mary Jane Paradis, both of Augusta; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

There are no public visiting hours scheduled. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Friday July 12th at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, One Kendall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

Waterville

Lily E. Whitney Hinkley – 73 of 22 Center Street, Augusta died Thursday at Mid Maine Medical Center-Thayer Unit after a brief illness. She was born in Liberty June 26, 1928 the daughter of Edward P. and Glennie (Bailey) Hannan.

Mrs. Hinkley had been employed for a time at Taylor Shoe Company and Hallowell Shoe Company but for most of her life had been a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her first husband Stilman Whitney.

Survivors include her husband David Ernest Hinkley of Augusta; two sons: Lincoln Whitney of Washington and Timothy Whitney and his wife Linda of Union, A daughter Althea L. Leach Irving of Union; a sister; Althea Palanza of Buckfield; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also several nieces and nephews.

At her request, there will be no hours of visitation or viewing, a graveside service is scheduled for 2 o’clock on June 29th at Chadwick Hill Cemetery, South China.

Those who desire, may make donations in her memory to the Charity of their choice.

CHELSEA

Burleigh M. James – age 74, of Townhouse Road, died July 1, 2002 at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Augusta, Maine on August 4, 1927 the son of Leland E. James and Doris (Buker) James.

Burleigh was educated in Augusta schools and served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Prior to his retirement, he was a self-employed building contractor doing business as B.M. James & Son for over 25 years.

Burleigh was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed building and remodeling.

Surviving is his wife of 41 years, Barbara (Gilley) James of Chelsea; one son, John B. James of Portland; one daughter, Barbara Ann Gero of North Whitefield; two grandchildren, Desiree Gero of Augusta and Hunter Gero of North Whitefield; four brothers, David James of Coopers Mills, Donald James of Chelsea, Robert James of Scarborough and Ronald James of Jefferson; seven sisters, Frances Brann of Weeks Mills, Jeanne Cunningham of Pittston, Leona James address unknown, Ruth Merrill of New York, Kathleen Pushard of Augusta, Gloria Rodrigue of Pittston, and Janice Sirois of Connecticut, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burleigh was preceded in death by a brother: Leland James Jr., and three sisters: Betty Andrews,

Helen Robichaud and Dorothy.

There will be no public visiting hours. Committal prayers will be offered at the convenience of the family at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta with Rev. Stephen Tollander, chaplain at Togus, officiating.

The family would appreciate memorial donations to: Kennebec Valley Humane Society, Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330 or HealthReach Hospice, P.O. Box 829, Waterville, ME 04903-0829.

AUGUSTA

Mary Anita Katon – age 80, of Page Street, died October 1, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Madison, ME on June 7, 1922 the daughter of Henry Boutin and Yvonne (Roy) Boutin.

She was a 1942 graduate of Hallowell High School and attended Gates Business School.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Katon was employed by Prudential Insurance Company for two years. She was previously employed by the Oblate Retreat House, Bell Telephone Company in Augusta, Nicholson & Ryan Jewelers and Hallowell Shoe Company.

Mrs. Katon was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church of Augusta, a 30 year member of Western View Golf Club and a 10 year member of the Post #2 American Legion Auxiliary.

She was also an accomplished painter who studied under Mrs. Oatway.

Her husband, Gerald M. Katon, died on Jan. 1, 1981. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Caret.

Surviving is a son, Dennis Paul Katon of Augusta; one sister, Joan Teed of Hallowell; a nephew, David Teed and his wife Dawn of Augusta; cousins: Gloria Boulette of Augusta, Pauline McGowan & family of Skowhegan, Earlene & Lou Frugali & family of Southington, Conn., Irene Guarino & family of Old Orchard Beach, Thelma & Earle Vigue & family of Skowhegan, Robert & Dorothy Samson & family of Berlin, Conn., Bonnie & Ted Apostle & family of Berlin, Conn., and Wilfred Samson, Jr. & family of California; a great-nephew, Daniel Teed of Strong and a step-nephew, Michael Teed of Florida.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday Oct. 4th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Saturday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester.

AUGUSTA

Robert D. LaChance – age 52 of Young Rd., died Thursday, September 26, 2002 at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Augusta on January 24, 1950 a son of J. Leo and Arlene (Danforth) LaChance.

Mr. LaChance was a graduate of Cony High School class of 1968 and received and Associates Degree in Business Management from the University of Maine in Augusta.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.

Mr. LaChance had been employed by the Veterans Hospital in Lexington, KY and had previously been employed at the Veterans Hospital in Togus.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Claudia G. (Chapman) LaChance of Augusta; his parents, J. Leo and Arlene (Danforth) LaChance of Hallowell; two daughters, Lisa Lessard and her husband Scott of Augusta and Lori LaChance of Dresden; a brother, Donald L. LaChance and his wife Ruth of Hallowell; two grandchildren, Natasha and Shania St. Pierre of Dresden; his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Rita Hanning and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit on Monday, September 30th from 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hallowell. Burial and committal prayers will follow in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.

AUGUSTA

George E. Malo – age 72 of Cony Rd. and formerly of Washington St., died Sunday, July 21, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus after a long illness. He was born in Lewiston on February 22, 1930 the son of Alfred and Alma (Bernier) Malo.

Mr. Malo had been employed by Bridges Service for several years and had previously worked at Maine American Vault Company for 20 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Mr. Malo was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #205.

He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Madeline Lajoie and Jeanne Bilodeau.

Mr. Malo is survived by two sisters, Martha Fink of Portland and Cecile Anderson of Nashville, TN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial mass will be celebrated Monday, July 29th at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave.

Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.

WINDSOR

Wayne R. Michaud – age 48, loving Dad, son and husband was called home to his Lord on Friday, Sept. 6, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, Waterville after a brave four-year battle with cancer. He was born in Skowhegan, Maine on Feb. 25, 1954. His parents were Robert J. Michaud and Barbara E. (York) Michaud.

Wayne was a 1973 graduate of Winslow High School. He received two Associate degrees from Mid-State College, one in business administration and one in computer science.

Prior to his retirement in 2000, Wayne was employed by the State of Maine in the Office of Substance Abuse for 16 years. He was previously employed by the Maine Department of Human Services, Barden’s, Veterans Center at Togus and Augusta Mental Health Institute. Wayne was also a part-time employee at Wal-Mart in Augusta.

Wayne was a member of Green Street United Methodist Church of Augusta, a former member of Odd Fellows, scout leader of Boy Scout Troop 609 and cub master of Cub Scout den #609, Wood Badge recipient, brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, member of Maine State Retirees, Maine State Employees Association and had volunteered at numerous summer camps.

Wayne lived life to its fullest by spreading love & joy to all those who knew him. He was a well rounded individual whose interests included: hunting, vegetable gardening, photography, stamp collecting, camping, reading and using the computer.

Surviving is his wife, Beverley (Peaslee) Michaud of Windsor; his mother, Barbara Michaud of Vassalboro; a son, Ira W. Michaud of Augusta and his girlfriend Chyann Costigan; a daughter, Amber J. Michaud of Augusta and her son Richard Philip Theriault as well as her boyfriend Charles “Chuck” Hannington; two brothers, Junior Allain of Madison and Robert W. Mills of Windsor; two sisters, Brenda Bollier of Skowhegan and Jennifer S. Mills of Windsor; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 6-8 PM Sunday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Monday at Green Street United Methodist Church, Augusta. Following cremation, burial will be in Dyer Hill Cemetery.

MT. VERNON

William “Bill” E. Morgan, III – age 50 of Plains Rd., died unexpectedly Saturday, July 20, 2002. He was born in Gardiner on July 28, 1951 a son of William E. Morgan, Jr. and Corris A. (Wyman) Morgan.

Mr. Morgan attended Mt. Vernon and Readfield schools.

He had been employed by Gagne and Son Concrete for several years and had previously been the owner/operator of Morgan Excavation.

Bill was an avid hunter and took many hunting trips. He enjoyed his boat, the “Ginger Lee”, taking family and friends out for rides. He had just started taking the time to go four wheeling, brook fishing and spending time with his wife, that is, when he would leave the garage. He always had a truck, car or tractor in the garage to work on for someone; he was a very good mechanic. But he would always stop what he was doing to help a friend or to play with his grandchildren.

Bill also had a special buddy whom he enjoyed very much, his dog “Fozzie”.

He is survived by his wife of 5 years, Linda A. (York) Morgan of Mt. Vernon; a son, William E. Morgan, IV and his wife Rhonda of Lewiston; a daughter, Rebecca A. Rowe and her husband Chip of Coppell, TX; a step-son, Ernest Gagne, Jr. of Lynn, MA; two step-daughters, Tonya Boynton and her husband Gary Boynton, II of Readfield and Loretta Wilson and her husband Marcel of Auburn; a brother, Arthur Morgan of Mt. Vernon; four sisters, Carol Thomas of Winthrop, Jenny McIntosh of South Portland, Mary Poluffe of South Portland and Helen Bowman; a special friend and cousin, Donald Morgan of Readfield; 9 grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM. Burial will follow in East Readfield Cemetery, Readfield.

AUGUSTA

Shawn K. Murphy – age 25 of Cony Rd. died unexpectedly Friday, August 30, 2002 in Watertown, New York. He was born in Augusta on April 23, 1977 a son of Lawrence R. Murphy and Sandra (Freitas) Trepanier.

Mr. Murphy attended Augusta schools and, prior to entering the service, had been employed by Pine State Vending and N.R.F. Distributors.

He was an active duty serviceman, serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at Ft. Drum, NY.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife of 2 months, Tracy (Richter) Murphy of Ft. Leonardwood, MO; his parents, Lawrence R. Murphy and his wife Beulah of Valdosta, GA and Sandra (Freitas) Trepanier and her husband James of Augusta; three brothers, Larry Murphy and his wife Sheryl of Sidney, Ron Smith and his wife Lynn of Chelsea and Christopher Murphy of Augusta; two sisters, Carrie Lord of Belgrade and Lisa Murphy of South Portland; a step-brother, Jeff Crocker of Gardiner; an aunt, Patricia Fortin of Augusta and several uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit from 7-9 PM Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 PM Thursday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held Friday at 11 AM. Burial will follow in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
