AUGUSTA

Clarence J. Sirois – age 67 of Mt. Vernon Ave., died Sunday, March 16, 2003 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus, following a long illness. He was born in Van Buren on January 5, 1936 a son of Romain A. and Jennie (Mulhern) Sirois.

Mr. Sirois had been employed by Statler Tissue for 28 years, and previously worked at Lipman Poultry and as a brick layer.

He was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3137 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks # 964. He enjoyed playing cribbage, pool and collecting coins.

Mr. Sirois was pre-deceased by a son, Philip Sirois; a daughter, Patricia J. Sirois and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by a son, Adam S. Sirois of Farmingdale; two daughters, Rose M. Royer of Augusta and Deborah J. Fortin of Brunswick; two brothers, Wilfred Sirois of Limestone and Joseph Belanger of Lewiston; a sister, Geraldine from up state New York; two grandchildren, Isaac J. Frith and Asa S. Frith of Massachusetts and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A graveside service will be held in the spring in Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner.

Those who desire may make donations to either: American Cancer Society, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-1905.

MANCHESTER

Anna A. Webber – age 76, of the Pond Road, died March 16, 2003 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta after a brief illness. She was born in Dexter, Maine on August 15, 1926 the daughter of James F. Atwood and Katherine (Allen) Atwood.

Mrs. Webber was a 1945 graduate of Cony High School and had been employed by New England Telephone Company as a telephone operator for many years.

Mrs. Webber was a member of the Augusta Country Club since 1948, and a member of American Association of Retired Persons.

Mrs. Webber had a real zest for life. Her favorite activities included: playing dominos and cards, candlepin bowling and trips to the ocean. She thoroughly enjoyed her time with her family and friends.

Her husband, Robert P. Webber, Sr., died in 1983. She was also predeceased by a sister, Jean A. Evans.

Surviving are two daughters: Susan A. Webber and her partner Francine McEwen of Manchester and a special daughter, Nancy L. Webber of Manchester; one son, Robert P. Webber, Jr. and his partner Tina Gerard of Manchester; a grandson, Robert P. Webber, III of Augusta and a niece, Linda Hinckley Violette of Augusta.

Visiting hours are 5-8 PM Thursday, March 20th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, Maine where a funeral service will be held 10 AM Friday. Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Cony High School Gridiron Club, 120 Cony Street, Augusta, ME 04330.

AUGUSTA

Antoinette Dubreuil Savage Brooks – age 87 of Northern Ave., died Saturday, March 29, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Graybirch following a long illness. She was born on May 24, 1915 in Augusta the daughter of Hormidas and DesNieges (LeClair) Dubreuil.

Mrs. Brooks had worked at the Augusta State Hospital for many years.

She was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.

Mrs. Brooks was pre-deceased by her first husband, William Savage; her second husband, George Brooks and a daughter, Edith Savage St. Hilaire.

She is survived by a son-in-law, Real St. Hilaire of Augusta; three grandchildren, Cecile St. Hilaire, Ronnie St. Hilaire and Michelle St. Hilaire-Ballard; a great-grandson, Randy Gaboury and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At her request, there will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta.

Burial will be later this spring in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.

AUGUSTA

Dona Mae Shannon – age 79 of Cushman St., and formerly of Arizona, died Sunday, March 30, 2003 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus, following a long illness. She was born in Twin Falls, ID on March 8, 1924 a daughter of Ed and Cora (Hendricks) Hammons.

Mrs. Shannon was a home maker for most of her life.

She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Glenda Lea Shannon and three sisters, Vernice Hammons, Dorothy Jorgenson and Fern Tullis.

Mrs. Shannon is survived by a daughter, Dawn Young of Augusta; a brother, Eddie L. Hammons of San Marcos, CA; a sister, Janet Ihler of Filer, ID and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

At her request there will be no public visiting hours or funeral service.

AUGUSTA

Donald G. Soule, Sr. – age 77, of Patterson Street and formerly of Freeport, died March 23, 2003 at Maine Veterans Home after a brief illness. He was born in Portland, Maine on November 15, 1925 the son of Lawrence P. Soule and Mary (Allen) Soule.

Mr. Soule graduated from Freeport High School in 1943 and entered the U.S. Navy later that same year. He served honorably in the Navy during World War II.

Donald was employed by H.E. Sargeant Co. of Stillwater for 10 years. He was previously employed by Freeport Shoe Co. for 20 years.

Mr. Soule was a member of the American Legion Post of Richmond.

Donald was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers, Willis A. Soule and Lawrence P. Soule.

Surviving is his wife, Irene (Langlois) Soule of Mariaville; eight sons: Donald G. Soule, Jr. of Yarmouth, Stephen Soule of Winthrop, Michael Soule of Freeport, Leslie Kalloch of Richmond, Kim Kalloch and Edmund Soule both of Mariaville, Victor Soule of Otis and Darren Soule of Mariaville; four daughters: Cherry Reyes, Donna Colson and Charmarie Jewett, all of Mariaville and Kelly Beach of Augusta; one brother, Austin B. Soule of Freeport; 34 grandchildren, as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A private Memorial service will be held in Mariaville later this spring.

AUGUSTA

Elizabeth J. “Betty” Turcotte – age 69 of Worcester St., died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at her home following a long illness. She was born in Dexter on March 2, 1934 a daughter of Lawrence and Ruby (Davenport) Ronco.

Mrs. Turcotte was a graduate of Cony High School and attended Bates Business College.

She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a member of the VFW Post 887 and 1603 Auxillary, American Legion Post #2 Auxillary, Am. Vets. Auxillary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3137 Auxillary.

Mrs. Turcotte had been employed by the Comfort Inn in Augusta and previously worked at the Holiday Inn in Augusta for 20 years.

She was pre-deceased by a sister, Patricia Turcotte and a great-grandson, Alec Turcotte.

Mrs. Turcotte is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert H. “Bob” Turcotte of Augusta; three sons, Randall Turcotte of Augusta, Jason Turcotte of Chelsea and Adrien Turcotte of Maryland; 2 daughters, Tracy L. Turgeon of Vienna and Debbie Carney of Augusta; a brother, Larry Ronco of Augusta; a sister, Gloria Fanjoi of Dexter; 15 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Thursday from 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held on Friday at noon with Rev. Michael Gendreau, pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, officiating.

Burial and committal prayers will follow in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.

AUGUSTA

Juliette T. Nichols – age 74, of Gray Birch Drive, died unexpectedly April 3, 2003 at her residence. She was born in Augusta, Maine on June 2, 1928 the daughter of Delphis G. Poulin and Marie Louise (Couture) Poulin.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Nichols was employed by MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Graybirch Drive & Glenridge Drive, overlapped by employment with the Augusta School Department, for a combined total of 20 years. Julie had also volunteered her time and talent on the keyboard entertaining patients at the Gray Birch and Glenridge nursing homes.

Mrs. Nichols was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and Fitzgerald-Cummings American Legion Post #2 Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers: Armand, Raymond, Robert and Roger Poulin; as well as four sisters: Leontine Rancourt, Fernande Douin, Bernadette Gagne and Violet Latno.

Surviving is a son, James Albert Nichols of Augusta; three daughters: Jayne Elizabeth Cummings and her husband Bruce of Augusta, Cynthia Louise Roderick and her husband Roger of S. Chatham, MA and Louise Nichols-Ashby and her husband Bert of China; two brothers: Adrian “Pop” Poulin of Manchester and Gerard Poulin of Augusta; four sisters: Alice Lettre, Simone Dumont and Lucille Dostie all of Augusta and Germaine Morrissette of China; seven grandchildren: Bruce, Amy, Justine, Leah, Daniel, Ryan and Nicholas; her godson Larry Poulin; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Monday, April 7th at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to: Fitzgerald-Cummings American Legion Post #2, Capital Street Ext., Augusta, ME 04330.

AUGUSTA

Olivine E. Rouleau – age 99, of Northern Avenue, died Monday, April 7, 2003 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus, after a brief illness. She was born in Sawyerville, P.Q., Canada on March 20, 1904 the daughter of Felix Dumont and Mary (Golin) Dumont.

Besides raising a family of five children, Mrs. Rouleau was employed by the Augusta State Hospital for over 10 years. She was previously employed by Bates Manufacturing Company – Edwards Division for many years.

Mrs. Rouleau was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a member of Cushnoc Senior Citizens, L’Union St. Jean Baptiste, the Ladies of St. Anne Society, where she served as vice-president for many years and the Charismatic Prayer Community at St. Paul Center where she volunteer for 27 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adelbert Rouleau, on May 29, 1980, as well as her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are two sons, Gerard J. Rouleau and his wife Yvette and Robert J. Rouleau and his wife Anita, all of Augusta; three daughters, Sister Therese Rouleau, F.C.S.C.J. of Attleboro, Mass., Arlene Bilodeau and her husband Victor of Monmouth and Jeannette Beaulieu and her husband Raymond of Augusta; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta where members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 3 PM Thursday to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Spring burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Augusta.

Donations may be made to either: St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, 5 Kendall St., Augusta, ME 04330 or the charity of your choice.

BELGRADE

Rene Beaudoin – age 79, of Route 135, died April 4, 2003 at the Veterans Hospital at Togus after a brief illness. He was born in Augusta, Maine on February 26, 1924 the son of Ernest Beaudoin and Emilie Anna (Breton) Beaudoin.

Mr. Beaudoin served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Prior to his retirement in 1984, he was employed by Fleet Bank for 11 years. Rene was previously employed by St. Augustine Catholic Church for 13 years and by Arlene’s Bakery for 10 years.

Mr. Beaudoin was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church of Augusta, a member of Cushnoc Senior Citizens and the American Association of Retired Persons.

His wife, Bertha (Dube) Beaudoin, died in 1994. He was also predeceased by his parents; two daughters, Ruth Beaudoin and Julie Dow; two sisters: Cecile Laroche and Therese Robitaille as well as his beloved companion, Constance Dutil, who died this year.

Surviving are four sons: Robert Beaudoin of Eastbrook, Paul Beaudoin of Hanford, CA, David Beaudoin of Weeks Mills and Michael Beaudoin of Augusta; seven daughters: Claire Shepherd of Belgrade, Sr. Diane Beaudoin of the Sisters of Charity in St. Hyacinthe, Canada, Claudette Merchant of Wilton, Anita Carvell of Ashville, NC, Jeanne Potelle of Milford, NH, Anne Allison of Jay and Maria Trow of Augusta; two sisters: Alma Morin of Lewiston and Lorette Morin of Augusta; 20 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday, April 9th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday April 10th at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240 or American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

PALM HARBOR, FL

Robert F. Stewart – age 84, long time Maine resident and businessman, died Sunday, April 6, 2003 in Palm Harbor, Florida. He was born in Cheltenham, PA and moved to Winthrop, ME where he graduated from high school. He attended the University of Maine, where he met Florence Farnham and graduated with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering in June 1940.

He and Florence were married in July 1941, shortly before he was shipped overseas to participate in World War II. He participated in the North African Campaign and the Invasion of Italy at Anzio. Bob remained in the Army for 6 years and rose to the rank to Major and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He and Flo settled in the Lewiston-Auburn area while he worked in different capacities at Bonafide Mills in Lisbon. While in the area, he and Flo raised two sons, Robert and Lee. Later he moved to Lisbon and, after 30 years in manufacturing, retired and began a successful career in the insurance business. For a period of time he and Florence owned their own motel in Brewer. After her death, he sold the business and began working for the Lafayette Hotel chain.

Since 1993, Bob as wintered in Oldsmar, FL, returning each summer to lend a hand at Lafayette's Oceanside Resort at Wells Beach.

He is survived by a sister, Muriel “Tooie” Tatham Craven of Woodbury, NJ; a brother, Don of Geneva, NY; two sons, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He will be interred at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, ME in a private graveside ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to his church: The Church of Jesus Christ (designated as “Fast Offering in memory of Robert F. Stewart”) and addressed to Palm Harbor Ward, Attn: Bishop Kimball, 5318 Enclave Drive, Oldsmar, FL, 34677. (100% of any donation designated to Fast Offering goes to the needy in and outside of the church).
