WINTHROP
J. Robert A. Dugal Jr. – 60 of Carlton Pond Rd., died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Maine Medical Center, Portland. Mr. Dugal was born in Waterville April 19, 1942 the son of J.R. Ayre Dugal, Sr. and Frances Olive (Veilleux) Dugal.
Mr. Dugal was a graduate of Winslow High School in 1960 and Southern Maine Technical School in 1962, he retired after 40 years of service for the Maine Department of Transportation as a Technician/Inspector.
He was a member of St Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Winthrop, he was a Navy Veteran of the Viet Nam War as a Seabee, a member of the MacCrillis-Rousseau V.F.W. Post of Winslow, the Alfred Maxwell Post American Legion of Winthrop, the Father McGowan Council Knights of Columbus, Abnaki Assembly # 346 – 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and the Maine State Employees Association where he served as Shop Steward and was a member of the Board of Directors.
Mr. Dugal enjoyed spending time with his family and taking his dogs for a ride on his “John Deere” tractor. He also enjoyed working with food, the computer, flower gardening and rock walls and was very generous with his time and resources.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Jane (Pelletier) Dugal of Winthrop; a daughter: Cheryl Ann Dugal of Augusta; a son John-Paul R. Dugal and his wife Kimberly of Winthrop; four brothers: Daniel Dugal and his wife Pat of Illinois; Gerald Dugal and his wife Sandra of Durham, Me.; Bernard Dugal and his significant other Janet of Thorndike and Conrad Dugal and his wife Lynn of Augusta; three sisters: Christine Wendler and her husband Chuck of Iowa; Pauline Curry and her husband Rick of Old Orchard Beach and Jeannine Robinson and her husband John of Waterboro; a special uncle and aunt and Godparents, Benedict and Marie Perry of Vassalboro also several other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Plummer Funeral Home 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 11 from St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Winthrop. Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Officers and members of Abnaki Assembly # 346 – 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in Full Regalia are to meet at 5:30 at the Funeral Home to prepare for the posting of the Guard and the Ritual of the Dead and the presentation of the Memorial Chalice.

RANDOLPH
Rose H. Demers – age 94 of Skyline Ct., and formerly of Kendall St., Augusta, died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Augusta Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. She was born in St. George de Beauce, Canada
on June 1, 1908 a daughter of Joseph and Georgianna (Poulin) Rodrigue.
Mrs. Demers was a home maker for most of her life but did work for several years at Bates Mfg. Co., Edwards Division.
She was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta, the Ladies of St. Anne Society, Cushnoc Senior Citizens and the Happy Family Senior Citizens and was a former long time member of the St. Agnes Circle Daughters of Isabella.
Mrs. Demers was pre-deceased by her husband, Armand Demers; four brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Rita Lalemand of Randolph and Joyce Gagne of Belgrade; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may visit on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 3 PM Sunday to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial will be later this spring in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.
Augusta
Joseph M. “Led” Betit 85 of Old Belgrade Road, died Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical and Regional Office Center, Togus after brief illness. He was born in Augusta January 30, 1918 the son of Cyprien and Elizabeth (Theriault) Betit.
Mr. Betit attended public schools in Mexico, Rumford and Augusta.
He was a W.W. II Army veteran serving as an artilleryman during the Battle of the Bulge.
Until recently, Mr. Betit was employed by Pine Tree Waste, Riverside Disposal and the Valley Company. From 1945 until 1967, he worked as an aide at the VA Center. For most of his working life he also owned and operated J.M. Betit Sani-Van Service in Augusta. In 1986, he was named to the Waste age magazine’s Hall of Fame. Many years ago, he also received the Augusta Area Chamber of Commerce’s President Award.
Until he was 82, Mr. Betit skied weekly at Sugarloaf. Right up to his illness, he was also an avid roller skater and swimmer.
Known for his great sense of humor Mr. Betit collected and traded jokes as a lifelong hobby.
His wife Jeannette (Violette) Betit died in 1990.
Survivors include three sons: Paul G. Betit and his wife Deborah of Brunswick, Edmond J. Betit and his companion Deborah Marienhoff of West Gardiner and David J. Betit of Augusta; a daughter Elizabeth Betit of Hallowell; His companion Muriel Audet of Gardiner, two brothers: Gabriel Betit of Augusta, Lionel Betit of Bingham and two sisters: Julienne Coulombe of Brunswick and Gertrude Virgin of Augusta; six grandchildren one great-grandchild also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At his request, there will be no viewing hours or visitation, however; there will be a gathering of family and friends from 6:30 to 8:30 Tuesday at the Plummer Funeral Home 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11 from St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery Civic Center Drive, Augusta at a later date.

ROCKLAND
Donald Q. Stuart – age 68, of Camden Street, and formerly of 33 Linwood Avenue, Augusta, died April 17, 2003 at Pen Bay Medical Center, Rockport, after a brief illness. He was born in Gray, Maine on December 5, 1934 the son of the late F. Lawrence Stuart and Gertrude (Quinby) Stuart.
Mr. Stuart was a graduate of Madison High School.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the State of Maine in various departments in Augusta for a total of 28 years.
Surviving is a step-mother, Gertrude C. Stuart of Augusta; sister, Nancy Lou Heath and her husband Ed of Augusta; two aunts, Jane M. Lancaster of South Portland and Dorothy Davis of Providence, RI; two nephews: Michael S. Heath and his wife Pauline of South China and David E. Heath of Augusta; and several cousins.
There will be no public visiting hours. A service celebrating Donald’s life will be offered 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 22nd at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. After cremation, burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester.

CHELSEA
Roland H. Dunbar – age 65, of River Road, died April 18, 2003 at the Thayer Unit of MaineGeneral Medical Center, Waterville following a long illness. He was born James Arthur McNamara in Gardiner, Maine on March 15, 1938. He became the son of Harold H. Dunbar and Nellie M. (Jeddry) Dunbar.
Roland was self employed starting in 1982 as Roland’s Auto Repair in Augusta and later as Roland’s Tire in Chelsea. He was previously employed by the Augusta Sanitary District, Dick Condon Construction, Harold Warren Construction, Shostak Construction and Williams Construction.
Roland was an avid snowmobile and ATV rider who preferred the Jackman area. He often rode there with his sons.
Surviving are two sons: Timothy R. Dunbar of Chelsea and Thomas J. Dunbar and his wife Laurie of Richmond; his life partner, Alethia Warren of Chelsea; and a granddaughter, Krystal Devine of Augusta.
Visiting hours are 7-9 PM Sunday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta where a funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 pm. Burial will be later this spring. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240.
Augusta
Lucy Iva (Dyer) Denham – 71, of Hospital Street died Friday morning April 18 at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Augusta, Maine on August 24, 1931 the daughter of Carl S. and Vera C. (Dyer) Dyer.
Mrs. Denham graduated from Cony High School, and married Harold Denham on 10/11/1951. She had been employed at the Augusta State Hospital for several years. She was an avid gardener & known locally as the “Flower Lady” selling perennials on her roadside stand in Augusta. She was a past communicant of the Plains Baptist Church in Litchfield, a Bible School Teacher at Old South Congregational Church in Hallowell, and a Den Mother in a Hallowell Cub Scout Pack.
Lucy was the founder of the Dr. William Dyer Reunion Association and a direct descendant of the Mayflower, very active in the DAR, Cobbosseeconte Grange, Emblem Club of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Rebecca’s Lodge, former member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Maine State Employees Association.
Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Harold R. Denham, of Augusta; four sons: Carl Richard “Sonny” Denham and his fiancée Patricia White of Midland,Texas, Carroll R. “Denny” Denham and his wife Midge of Gray, Gene R. Denham of Winthrop and Dwight R. Denham and his wife Dorene of Gardiner; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a sister, Lela Herling of Gardiner, a brother-in-law, Gerard
C. Simard and family; Arthur “Reg” Denham and his wife Elaine and family, Janie Greenleaf and her husband Tim and family, Jackie Marsella and her husband Paul and family, Duane Furlong and wife Susan also several nieces and nephews and special friends in Bingo and in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was predeceased by her sister, Janice Simard, a grandson, Adam, and a brother-in-law, Herb Herling.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1 P.M. today at the Furlong lot in Litchfield Plains Cemetery, Litchfield.
AUGUSTA
Fernande “Fannie” Pouliotte – age 92, of 30 Franklin Street, died April 23, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Graybirch Drive after a long illness. She was born in Augusta, Maine on Sept. 18, 1910 the daughter of Joseph Morrissette and Rose (Lagueux) Morrissette.
Mrs. Pouliotte was educated in Augusta schools and was employed by Hazzard Shoe Company for many years. She was previously employed by Edwards Manufacturing Company.
Mrs. Pouliotte was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Cushnoc Senior Citizens and Ladies of St. Anne Society.
Her husband, Robert Edouard Pouliotte, died on Dec. 10, 1964. She was also predeceased by three brothers: Laurier, Wilfred and Roland Morrissette; and two sisters: Yvette Pare and Loretta Morrissette.
Surviving is a son, Paul Pouliotte and his wife Patricia of Augusta; a daughter, Constance “Connie” Burton of Augusta; three sisters, Adrienne Plamondon, Juliette Grondin and Gloria Morrissette, all of Augusta; four grandchildren: Jennifer & Todd Pouliotte and Corey and Ashley Burton; one great-grandchild, Dylan Burton and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday April 25th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, where members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 3:00 PM to offer a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 AM Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Augustine cemetery at a later date.

Farmingdale
Charlotte MacPhelemy – age 72, of 10 Michael Street passed away April 20, 2003 at home with her family by her side after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Pittston on November 22, 1930 the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Brown) Allen.
Charlotte’s passing is that of an innate soul that has touched the lives of all who have met and known her. She was an everyday participant of life with a passion for gardening and cooking that was rivaled only by an equal passion for loving, caring and nurturing of others. One of the biggest joys of her life, was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Charlotte was a true conveyer of wisdom, common sense and reason for which we all are forever grateful. God had blessed her and in turn, her time on earth has truly blessed us all.
“Sis” as she was fondly known by many, will always be remembered for her empathy and compassion while nurturing others.
She had been employed at the Lancey House in Pittsfield, the Augusta House, Hotel North and the Pioneer House all of Augusta for several years. She had also been employed in Accounts and Control by the State of Maine for a number of years.
She was predeceased by her husband George F. MacPhelemy Jr. on April 24, 1983.
Survivors include her daughter Sandra Rodrigue of Farmingdale and a son Robert Allen of Naples. Charlotte will be sadly missed by her brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.
At her request there will be no hours of visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Wednesday April 30, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hallowell, followed by burial in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. Flowers should be sent to the funeral home on Tuesday April 29th or memorial donations may be made to Hospice Volunteers of Kennebec Valley, MaineGeneral Medical Center, 150 Dresden Avenue, Gardiner, ME 04345.
Augusta
Rosario C. Quirion – 85, of Townsend Road, died Tuesday April 22, 2003 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta after a long illness. He died peacefully in his sleep with his wife and daughter at his side.
He was born in Augusta on May 24, 1917 the son of Charles and Victoria (Poulin) Quirion.
Mr. Quirion was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
He had been employed for over 36 years at Bates Manufacturing Co., Edwards Division, and previously worked on his father’s farm from 1933 to 1940.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Valeda (Poulin) Quirion of Augusta, a daughter, Jeanne M. Quirion of Augusta; two sisters: Florence Busque and her husband Lionel and Merilda Bilodeau and her husband Albert all of Augusta; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rosario was predeceased by a sister Marie Blanche Dulac and a brother Lionel Quirion.
Visiting hours are 7-9 P.M. Thursday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 AM Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Augusta.
