AUGUSTA

Rolande C. Poirier – age 73, of Bond Street, died July 2, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Glenridge Drive after a brief illness. She was born in Augusta, Maine on September 1, 1929 the daughter of Albenie Pare and Laurette (Lessard) Pare.

Mrs. Poirier was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Carlton Woolen Mill in Winthrop for several years. She was previously employed by Edwards Manufacturing Company for many years.

Her husband, Joseph J. Poirier, died April 27, 1972. She was also predeceased by a brother, Adjutor Pare, four sisters: Jeanne d’Arc Quirion, Mary Ann Fortin, Ida Bowden, Rita Belanger; and two step-sisters, Rose Deschaine and Chantel Clark.

Surviving are five sisters: Theresa Whittley of South Paris, Yvette Austin, Germaine Belanger, Laurette Rowe and Rose R. Pare, all of Augusta; a step-sister, Clorinthe Pare of Trene Jct., Canada; several aunts, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 9 to 10:30 AM Saturday, July 5th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday July 5th at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.

AUGUSTA

Julia F. Weymouth - age 97, formerly of 42 So. Chestnut Street, Augusta, died July 1, 2003 at Augusta Rehabilitation Center where she had resided the past eighteen months. She was born in Bellows Falls, Vt., the fifth of nine children of immigrant Irish parents, Frank F. & Mary (Houlihan) Farrell.

Mrs. Weymouth attended school in Pike, N.H. prior to moving to Augusta in 1919. She graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School and from Cony High School in 1925.

Mrs. Weymouth was employed by Beals Furniture Store & Vickery-Hill Publishing Co. in the 1920's & '30's. For most of her life, she was a homemaker and a loving & devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a temporary employee of the Maine Milk Commission from 1959-61.

Mrs. Weymouth had been the senior and eldest resident of her street, having resided at either 39 or 42 So. Chestnut Street from 1936 to June 2001. From June 2001 through January 2002, she resided at Walters Boarding Home, Hallowell, Me. During the past 18 months, she resided at Augusta Rehabilitation Center where she enjoyed loving care & friendships.

Julia enjoyed her children, grandchildren, playing cards with her sisters, and was a regular Bingo player for more than 30 years.

She was a former member of both St. Mary's Home & School Assn. and the Cushnoc Chapter, Senior Citizens, together with being a lifetime member of St. Mary's Guild.

Mrs. Weymouth was predeceased by her husband of 46 yrs., F.C. "Buster" Weymouth, who died March 16, 1977; two brothers, Patrick & William Farrell and four sisters, Annie Farrell Rodiman, Delia Farrell, Theresa Farrell Bradford, & Catherine Farrell Allen.

Survivors include three sons, Robert & his wife, Helen of Augusta and Cocoa Beach, FL; William & and his wife, Linda; and James and his wife, Janet, all of Augusta; one daughter, Judith and her husband, Jack Petroske of Naples, Fla. and formerly of Voorhesville, NY. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Farrell Burns of Augusta and Mrs. Frances Farrell Pilsbury of Palermo; 15 grandchildren 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday, July 6th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME where members of Abnaki Council #334 Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at 7:15 pm for a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Monday, July 7th at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manchester, Me.

Those who desire, may make memorial contributions in Mrs. Weymouth's name to St. Mary's School for the Mary Houlihan Farrell Scholarship Fund, P. 0. Box 547, Augusta, Me. 04330.

AUGUSTA

Clara R. MacPherson – age 96 of Glenridge Dr. and formerly of Winthrop St. and Syracuse, NY, died Friday, July 4, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center – Glenridge Dr. She was born in Stephenson, MI on December 22, 1906 a daughter of Paul and Elsie (Kuntze) Ross.

She was educated in Stephenson, MI. Clara moved to Chicago, IL as a young woman and worked at Bell Telephone Co. It was in Chicago that she met and married James MacPherson in 1930.

Mrs. MacPherson was a homemaker for most of her life, but had also worked at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY for a few years.

She had been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Syracuse, NY where she was an ordained Deacon and Church Elder. She was also a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. MacPherson was pre-deceased by her husband, James D. MacPherson in 1962; four brothers, Max, Wilbert, Arthur and Paul Ross; three sisters, Mary Johnson, Lucille Welch and Betsy Rearden.

She is survived by a son, Ross MacPherson of Bozeman, MT; a daughter, Jean Matheson of Augusta; a brother, Harold Ross of Kansas City, KS; 5 grandchildren, Margaret Matheson, Jeanne MacPherson, James MacPherson, Joy MacPherson and Jill Hamilton; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

At her request, there will be no public visiting hours. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Farrington Morton Cemetery, Mexico.

AUGUSTA

George F. “Meme” Violette – age 85 of Glenridge Dr., died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center – Glenridge following a long illness. He was born in Lincoln, ME on January 8, 1918 a son of Frank and Celina (Shaw) Violette.

Mr. Violette attended Augusta schools, was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a life member of Le Club Calumet.

He had been employed by Lipman Poultry in Augusta for 19 years, retiring in 1982.

Mr. Violette was pre-deceased by 3 brothers, 2 sisters and a granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Clemence C. (Dutil) Violette of Augusta; a son, Roger Violette of Gardiner; 5 daughters, Connie Brown of Poland, Cecile Poulin of Augusta, Marie Shaw of Groton, CT, Mary Ann Violette of Augusta and Linda Gosselin of South China; 3 brothers, Donald Violette of Augusta, Ralph Violette of California and Richard Violette of Augusta; a sister, Theresa Kelley of Gardiner; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit today from 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where officers and members of Le Club Calumet are asked to meet at 6:30 PM to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 AM Wednesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Augusta.

Burial and committal prayers will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend St., Augusta.

Shenandoah, Va.

Robert L. Hussey – 52 of 568 McDaniel Lane, Shenandoah, Va. died unexpectedly July 4th at his home. He was born in Augusta August 24, 1950 the son of Leroy F. Hussey Jr. and Marian (Littlefield) Hussey.

Mr. Hussey was a graduate of Cony High 1968. Received an Associates Degree from Champlain College Burlington, Vt. 1970 and a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maine in 1972.

He joined Hussey Hardware in1973, a family owned business in Augusta.

He became V.P. and Treasurer in 1976, and CEO in1989 to its closing in1995.

In 1996 he joined Ace Hardware Corp. as a Retail Consultant for the Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC area. He received many Retail Consultant of the year awards for the Eastern Region and in 2002 he received the National MVP award.

He was very active in the Augusta Jaycees, Local President 1982, State V.P. in 1985, he was named a Jaycee International senator, and received the Charles Kelp Award as one of the outstanding chapter presidents in the country. He was 1987 Chair of Whatever Week. He was Board Chairman of the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce in 1991. He was a member of the Augusta Lodge #141 AF and AM, Scottish Rite. Kora Temple Shrine and Augusta Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #964.

Survivors include his parents Leroy F. Jr. and Marian (Littlefield) Hussey of Augusta; his wife Wilhelmina “Mimi” (Monroe) Wade Hussey of Shenandoah, Va., two sons: Aaron R. Hussey of Augusta and Zachary R. Hussey of Shenandoah, Va., two daughters Sarah Chowgule and her husband Nikhilesh of Augusta and Sarah Wade of Shenandoah, Va.; a brother Richard P. Hussey and his wife Eileen of Augusta a sister Ann Hussey Hogaboom and her husband Richard of Hopkinton, Mass. also an aunt an uncle three nephews and several cousins.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 at Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta with the Rev. Dr. David Glusker officiating. Burial will follow in the Hussey family lot Forest Grove Cemetery.

AUGUSTA

Johnna Rose Redman Wood - age 80, of Glen­ridge Dr., and formerly a longtime resident of Hallowell, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2003 at MaineGeneral Re­habilitation and Nursing Care, Glenridge Drive, after a long battle with congestive heart failure and Alzheimers disease. She was born in Augusta, Maine on August 3, 1922 to John Everett Redman and Neva (Crooks) Redman.

Mrs. Wood was raised and attended school in Boothbay Harbor, Waldoboro and Augusta, Maine graduating from Cony High School in the class of 1939. She received a Degree in Library Sciences from the University of New Hampshire at Durham in 1970.

Johnna was a librarian at Hubbard Free Library in Hallowell from 1965 until her retirement in 1995. She was well loved by so many patrons of the library, especially the many young children who were treated to her private stash of Necco wafers in her desk drawer.

Johnna was also a correspondent with the Kennebec Journal for the city of Hallo­well. She worked for many years on the polls at Hallowell City Hall and was em­ployed in the admitting office at Augusta General Hospital for several years.

Johnna’s greatest achievement in her life was raising her eight children, and baby­sitting and spoiling her many grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Alyce Burns; her youngest child, Cathleen “Kit” Gallagher; a great-grand­son, Ryan Hayes and her former husband, Grinnell McLeod Wood.

Mrs. Wood is survived by seven of her eight children: Craig B. Wood and his wife Gloria and their son Derek of Bolton, CT, Peter B. Wood and his wife Donna of Merrimack, NH, and their children Brian Wood and Nancy Williams; Eric M. Wood and his wife Carol of Guntersville, Alabama and their daughter Lisa, Newbern; Jeffrey R. Wood and his wife Joyce of Farmingdale and their children Nolan Brann, Dustin Wood-O’Connor & Tania Reavis; Jane W. Pare of Augusta and her children David Pare and Denise Pare; Johnna “Jody” Wood, Jr. and her husband John Gregg of Fresno, CA and Grinnell M. “Jack” Wood, II and his wife Jolene of Greenville, NH and their daughters Apple Wood and Desirree Wood and two additional granddaughters, Jessica Gallagher and Jennifer Gallagher.

Johnna is also survived by her brothers, Robert Redman and his wife Priscilla and Edward Redman and his wife Louise all of Augusta; 5 special great-grandchildren; an aunt Sybil Huard of Augusta and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday July 14th at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 18 Union St., Hallowell with Rev. Nancy Platt, officiating. Burial will be in Hallowell Cemetery, Hallowell.

AUGUSTA

Corilla J. Cote – 88 years young, a resident of Parkwood Drive, died Saturday July 12, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Gray Birch Drive. Corilla was born in Chisholm, Maine on November 28, 1914 the daughter of William and Rose (Mercier) Poisson, and attended St. Regis Academy in Berlin, NH.

On July 8, 1935, she married Romeo J. Cote, who predeceased her on Oct. 21, 1980.

In addition to nurturing a family, Corilla was employed by Hallowell Shoe Company for 18 years and by Depositors Trust Co. for eight years.

She was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society.

The impact she had on those who loved her was best expressed by a friend who offered that she was a better person for having known Corilla.

Surviving are a son, Peter G. Cote and his wife Janet of Cherry Hill, NJ; a daughter, Theresa Morrison and her husband Richard of Boothbay; a brother, Paul Poisson of Port Orange, FL; three grandchildren: Diane Cote of Blackwood, NJ, Alexa and Erik Morrison of Boothbay, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday July 16th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta where members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 3:00 PM for a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday July 17th at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Old Belgrade Road, Augusta. Those who desire may make donations in Corilla’s memory to: St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, One Kendall Street, Augusta, ME 04330.

MT. VERNON

James C. Reid – age 72 of Dunns Corner Rd., died unexpectedly Sunday, July 13, 2003 at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston. He was born in Augusta on August 21, 1930 a son of George C. and A. Louise (Safford) Reid.

Mr. Reid had been employed by Statler Tissue Co. for 37 years and, since his retirement, ran a wood refurbish and refinish shop. He also used to plow the roads of Mt. Vernon in the winter.

He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winthrop, was a past member of the Readfield Lions Club and was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protected Order of Elks # 964 in Augusta.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spent many happy hours in his wood working shop. His greatest joy was his family. He will be sadly missed.

Mr. Reid was pre-deceased by his first wife, Arline (Roy) Reid in 1976.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla (Veilleux) Reid of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Sandra Luszczki and her husband Lucien of Mt. Vernon, Bonnie Reid-Cushing of Farmingdale and Brenda Blais and her husband Raymond of Augusta; a brother, Clayton Reid and his wife Lucille of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Ethel Mayo of Pittston; 7 grandchildren, John P Cushing, James J. Cushing, Patrick J. Cushing, II, Mia Pollis, Amanda Luszczki, Renee Blais and Kelly Blais; 9 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Dora Chase and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit on Thursday, July 17th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where officers and members of the Elks are asked to meet at 7:30 PM to recite prayers for their departed member. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Richard St. Cyr, pastor of St. Augustine Catholic Church, officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in Readfield Corner Cemetery, Readfield. Burial time and day will be announced at a later date.
