LISBON

Leo Pomerleau – age 90 of Brentwood Circle, and formerly of Chateau Cushnoc, Augusta, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at St. Marguerite D’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston following a brief illness. He was born in Augusta on February 13, 1913 the son of Albert and Elizabeth Marie (Soucy) Pomerleau.

Mr. Pomerleau had been the Post Master at the U.S. Post Office at the VA Hospital, Togus for 17 years. Previously, he had worked for Purex Corp., Statler Tissue and, for 40 years, was owner/operator of Pomerleau’s Bakery.

He was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta and was a life member of the following organizations: Abnaki Council # 334 and Abnaki Assembly # 346 Knights of Columbus, Le Club Calumet, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks # 964 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 3137. He was a former commissioner of the Maine State Boxing Commission and was honored by the Maine State Sports Hall of Fame for his hard work and dedication to the sport of Boxing in this State, promoting boxing matches on Friday nights in Augusta and at the VA Hospital at Togus for many years. He was also an avid golfer and former member of the Augusta Country Club and Natanis Golf Course.

Mr. Pomerleau was pre-deceased by his wife, Juliette (Roy) Pomerleau.

He is survived by a son, Robert L. Pomerleau and his wife Joan of Augusta; two daughters, Marie Evelyn Duryea of Waterville and Sandra June Pomerleau of Lisbon; three grandchildren, Stephanie Brewer of Freeport, Stephen Duryea of Fayetteville, NC and Pamela Jean Pomerleau of Augusta; a great-grandson, Shawn Owen Rodgers; a great-great-granddaughter, Mckaylee Katharyn Rodgers and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit today from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of Abnaki Assembly Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at 6:30 PM in full regalia for the Posting of the Guard Ceremony, officers and members of Le Club Calumet are asked to meet at 7:00 PM, officers and members of the Elks are asked to meet at 7:15 PM and officers and members of the Eagles are asked to meet at 7:30 PM to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.

Those who desire may make donations to: St. Augustine Church Restoration Fund, 5 Kendall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

WATERVILLE

Yvette M. Poulin – age 88, of Kennedy Memorial Drive, and formerly of 197 Northern Avenue, Augusta, died June 18, 2003 at Inland Hospital. She was born in St. Benoit, P.Q., Canada on March 22, 1915 the daughter of Frank Veilleux and Amanda (Poulin) Veilleux.

Previous to her retirement, Mrs. Poulin had been employed by the Augusta State Hospital for 17 years. She was formerly employed by Hallowell Shoe Company and, during World War II, by the Veterans Hospital at Togus.

Mrs. Poulin was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church .

She was predeceased by a son, J. Richard Breton in 1988; and two brothers: Laval Veilleux and Lucien Veilleux.

Surviving is a daughter, Lionette Sukeforth of Albion; three brothers, Gerard Veilleux, Wilbrod Veilleux and Adelard Veilleux, all of Augusta; three sisters, Jean d’Arc Lajoie of Manchester, Eva Cote of Gardiner and Mary Paul Veilleux of Augusta; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 7-9 PM Thursday June 19th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 PM Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.

MANCHESTER

Lucille Casale Rizzo – age 88, of Heron Cove and formerly a longtime resident of Rome Farms of Rome Maine, died June 20, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Glenridge Drive after a brief illness. She was born on September 1, 1914 in New York, NY the daughter of John J. Casale and Anna (Carle) Casale.

Mrs. Rizzo was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church of Augusta and formerly a longtime member of St. Theresa Catholic Church of Oakland.

Her husband, Joseph George Rizzo M.D., died in 1965.

Surviving are two sons: John G. Rizzo and his wife Marcia of Manchester and Frank A. Rizzo and his wife Gail of Belgrade Lakes; five grandchildren: Paula and her husband Jim Baines of Hampden, Kristin and her husband Maj. Mike Samarov of Twenty Nine Palms, CA, Eric Rizzo and his wife Laura of Alexandria, VA, Todd Rizzo and his wife Michelle of Newington, CT and Brian Rizzo and his wife Carol of West Gardiner; five great-grandchildren: Jay Baines, Christian Baines, Sasha Samarov, Cody Rizzo and Eric George Rizzo, Jr.; along with a niece, Florence Hefele of Chatham, NJ.

Visiting hours are 3-5 & 7-9 PM Monday, June 23rd at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Tuesday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Oakland. Burial will follow in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Waterville.

FARMINGDALE

Lori Melissa Hutchinson – age 30 of Louden St., passed away unexpectedly at her parents home in Winthrop on Saturday, June 21, 2003. She was surrounded by her daughter and family when the Lord took her away from us. Lori fought a courageous battle with Diabetes for the past 25 years. She was born in Portland, ME on July 29, 1972 a daughter of Stephen and Marilyn (Widor) Hutchinson.

Lori was a 1990 graduate of Scarborough High School and spent most of her adult life in the Medical field as a CNA. Lori truly loved taking care of others and making sure everyone was happy. As of late, she worked at Pine State Trading Co. as a customer service representative. She truly had the gift of gab and honestly enjoyed her job there.

Lori was also a fantastic mother to her daughter Danielle. Danielle was known as her angel. She enjoyed watching Danielle excel in school and in sports. Danielle was her everything and they spent their days together filled with laughter, love and happiness.

Lori was a great big sister and sister-in-law. She was always there for us through good times and bad. She taught us always to live for the moment and fight for what you believe in. She was a loving, caring and thoughtful friend and companion to her fiancée and his daughter, Rebecca.

One of her most favorite things to do was to go to the beach, enjoying the warm summer days and especially spending time with those she loved most. Lori loved to laugh and smile and enjoy each day regardless of what was going on or what she was doing. She always brightened up a room when she entered and knew how to make you smile or laugh with her crazy ways. She truly was a happy spirit.

She was the type of person that, despite her ill health most of her life, always put other people first. Those who knew her loved her so very much and we are truly blessed to call her our friend. We will miss her deeply.

Lori is survived by her 7 year old daughter, Danielle Hutchinson of Farmingdale; her fiancée, Jarrod Hunsinger of Farmingdale; her parents, Stephen and Marilyn (Widor) Hutchinson of Winthrop; two sisters, Julie Hutchinson of Winthrop and Cathy Hutchinson Shepherd and her husband Scott of Waterville; a brother, Petty Officer Michael Hutchinson stationed on the Aircraft Carrier USS John F. Kennedy out of Jacksonville, FL and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pelton Hill, Manchester.

Those who desire may make donations in Lori’s name to: American Diabetes Association, Maine – Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160.

WINTRHOP

Freda M. Black – age 83 of Old Lewiston Rd. and formerly of Grand St., Augusta, died Monday, June 23, 2003 at Heritage Manor following a long illness. She was born in Readfield on December 19, 1919 a daughter of James and Sarah Lena (Clough) McKenney.

Mrs. Black was a graduate of Kents Hill High School, class of 1938 and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Readfield.

She had worked for the State of Maine Department of Human Services for 26 years, retiring in February 1982.

Mrs. Black was a life member and past Master and Lecturer of Readfield Grange # 217, past president of East Readfield Sewing Circle, member of Kennebec Pamora #4, State and National Grange, Readfield Chapter Senior Citizens, Maine State Employees Association, Maine State Retirees Association and the Readfield Historical Society.

She loved games, especially card games, as well as beano and bowling.

Mrs. Black was pre-deceased by her husband, Elwin H. Black; four brothers, Harry H., Max L., William C. and Carroll McKenney; a sister, G. Emerald Newman and a step-sister, Lurlin A. Parks.

She is survived by a son, Ralph F. Black and his wife Marjorie of Winthrop; a daughter, Geraldine A. Bushey and her husband David of Florida; three grandchildren, Ralph F. Black, II, James H. Black and his wife Lisa and Paul Bushey; three great-grandchildren, Breanna H. Black, Samuel C. Black and Dane A. Black and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may visit Friday from 9-11 AM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held Friday at 11 AM.

Burial and committal will follow in East Readfield Cemetery, East Readfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Freda’s name may be made to either: Readfield Grange #217, C/O Sec. John Damren, 764 Plains Rd., Mt. Vernon, ME, 04352 or Readfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 354, Readfield, ME, 04355.

AUGUSTA

Ruth K. Chase – age 91, of South Belfast Avenue, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 26, 2003 at Augusta Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. She was born in Hallowell, Maine on May 3, 1912 the daughter of Leland Merle Blanchard and Montez (Chase) Blanchard.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Chase was employed by Augusta General Hospital for several years. She was previously employed by the Augusta School Department for 14 years and by Vickery & Hill Publishers for 15 years.

Mrs. Chase was a member of Penney Memorial United Baptist Church of Augusta.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Kenneth J. Chase of Augusta; a daughter, Janice MacNeill and her husband John of Prospect Harbor, Maine; two granddaughters, Rebecca Edwards of Augusta, and Ellen Barkin and her husband Jeffrey, of Naples, FL; two great-granddaughters, Amber and Amanda Edwards; a great-grandson, Josh Barkin; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Sunday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, Maine where a funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 30th. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to: Penney Memorial United Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 35 Grove Street, Augusta, ME 04330.

AUGUSTA

Leora G. Pomroy - age 81, of Sewall Street, died June 28, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch Drive after a long illness. She was born in Augusta, Maine on March 11, 1922 the daughter of George C. Jackson and Evelyn M. (Pease) Jackson.

Mrs. Pomroy was educated in Augusta schools and was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life.

She was a member of Penney Memorial United Baptist Church and Senior Spectrum.

Her husband, Harold E. Pomroy, died in 1967. She was also preceded in death by four brothers: Percy Jackson, Wilbur Jackson, Roy Jackson and Richard Jackson; as well as two sisters: Virginia Stratton and Geneva McGuire.

Surviving is a brother, Ray Jackson of Augusta and several nieces and nephews.

At her request, there will be no public visiting hours and no funeral service. Final disposition will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn.

AUGUSTA

Rolande C. Poirier – age 73, of Bond Street, died July 2, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Glenridge Drive after a brief illness. She was born in Augusta, Maine on September 1, 1929 the daughter of Albenie Pare and Laurette (Lessard) Pare.

Mrs. Poirier was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Carlton Woolen Mill in Winthrop for several years. She was previously employed by Edwards Manufacturing Company for many years.

Her husband, Joseph J. Poirier, died April 27, 1972. She was also predeceased by a brother, Adjutor Pare, four sisters: Jeanne d’Arc Quirion, Mary Ann Fortin, Ida Bowden, Rita Belanger; and two step-sisters, Rose Deschaine and Chantel Clark.

Surviving are five sisters: Theresa Whittley of South Paris, Yvette Austin, Germaine Belanger, Laurette Rowe and Rose R. Pare, all of Augusta; a step-sister, Clorinthe Pare of Trene Jct., Canada; several aunts, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 9 to 10:30 AM Saturday, July 5th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday July 5th at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.

AUGUSTA

Julia F. Weymouth - age 97, formerly of 42 So. Chestnut Street, Augusta, died July 1, 2003 at Augusta Rehabilitation Center where she had resided the past eighteen months. She was born in Bellows Falls, Vt., the fifth of nine children of immigrant Irish parents, Frank F. & Mary (Houlihan) Farrell.

Mrs. Weymouth attended school in Pike, N.H. prior to moving to Augusta in 1919. She graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School and from Cony High School in 1925.

Mrs. Weymouth was employed by Beals Furniture Store & Vickery-Hill Publishing Co. in the 1920's & '30's. For most of her life, she was a homemaker and a loving & devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a temporary employee of the Maine Milk Commission from 1959-61.

Mrs. Weymouth had been the senior and eldest resident of her street, having resided at either 39 or 42 So. Chestnut Street from 1936 to June 2001. From June 2001 through January 2002, she resided at Walters Boarding Home, Hallowell, Me. During the past 18 months, she resided at Augusta Rehabilitation Center where she enjoyed loving care & friendships.

Julia enjoyed her children, grandchildren, playing cards with her sisters, and was a regular Bingo player for more than 30 years.

She was a former member of both St. Mary's Home & School Assn. and the Cushnoc Chapter, Senior Citizens, together with being a lifetime member of St. Mary's Guild.

Mrs. Weymouth was predeceased by her husband of 46 yrs., F.C. "Buster" Weymouth, who died March 16, 1977; two brothers, Patrick & William Farrell and four sisters, Annie Farrell Rodiman, Delia Farrell, Theresa Farrell Bradford, & Catherine Farrell Allen.

Survivors include three sons, Robert & his wife, Helen of Augusta and Cocoa Beach, FL; William & and his wife, Linda; and James and his wife, Janet, all of Augusta; one daughter, Judith and her husband, Jack Petroske of Naples, Fla. and formerly of Voorhesville, NY. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Farrell Burns of Augusta and Mrs. Frances Farrell Pilsbury of Palermo; 15 grandchildren 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday, July 6th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME where members of Abnaki Council #334 Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at 7:15 pm for a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Monday, July 7th at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manchester, Me.
