Beatrice R. Tibbetts
1999-11-04

Beatrice Ruth Turner Tibbetts, 74, of Whitefield, died Sunday, October 31 at Maine Medical Center, Portland, after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of Chauncey Depew and Flossie Mae Sproul Turner, and attended Windsor schools. She was a 1943 graduate of Cony High School.

On April 29, 1944, she married Donald Charles Tibbetts of Jefferson. Mrs. Tibbetts raised her family on a dairy farm in Whitefield, where she was active as a 4-H leader and Windsor Grange member. Her nephew, Joe Taber, lived with the family for several years.

She was also a member of the Whitefield Historical Society, the Whitefield Fire Department Auxiliary and the Whitefield Parent Teacher Association, and had served as a ballot clerk for many years.

Mrs. Tibbetts was a member of the Windsor Memorial Baptist Church.

She was a sports fan and traveled frequently to attend and cheer on any type of team event. She also enjoyed dancing and playing cards.

A son, Terrence D. Tibbetts, died in 1944.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years of Whitefield; three sons, Daniel C. Tibbetts and Dwight C. Tibbetts, both of Windsor, and Barry J. Tibbetts of Whifefield; three daughters, Mrs. Gene (Barbara S.) Chubbuck of Edgecomb, Mrs. Mike (Roxanne L.) Malley of Windsor and Mrs. Scott (Marjorie L.) Deabay of Carmel; four sisters, Mavis Choate of Windsor, Mrs. Earl (Elaine) Bilodeau of Skowhegan, Mrs. Lyle (Dorothy) Noyes of Falmouth and Joyce Clowes of Vassalboro, and 18 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 4 at 11 a.m. at Windsor Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Branan Becknell officiating. Burial will follow in Whitefield Cemetery.

Memorial gifts are suggested to Windsor Memorial Baptist Church, RR 1, Box 1800, Windsor, ME 04363. Arrangements are under the direction of Gray & Pratt Funeral Directors, Windsor.

Dwain R. Taker
1998-10-15

AUGUSTA - Dwain R. Taker, 63, died Friday, October 9, 1998 at the Togas Medical Center.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Taker spent most of his life in New England, primarily in Maine, most recently in Oxford

In addition to his wife Edwina of Oxford , he is survived by three daughters, Jane, Joley and Tammy; two brothers, Dale and Bruce; and two sisters, Ivalea and Roberta.

At Mr. Takers' request, there were no formal services.

Chelsea L. Taplin
1998-07-16

Chelsea Leigh Taplin, age 1, died Wednesday, June 24 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Born on June 2, 1997, she was the daughter of Stacie Taplin and Ronald Bouchard.

She is loved and sadly missed by everyone who knew her.

Survivors include her mother, Stacie Taplin and stepfather Erik Hart, both of Wiscasset; her father, Roland Bouchard of Auburn; her sister, Brianna Marie Taplin of Wiscasset; maternal grandparents, Norma Taplin and James Fuller of Brunswick; her maternal greatgrandmother, Elnora Buzzell of Nobleboro; and her aunt, Tanya Taplin of Pemaquid.

Private funeral services will be held at a later date. Arrangements will be announced by Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath.

Mrs. Alma P. Tatton
1998-09-17

RUMFORD - Mrs. Alma P. Tatton, C.R.N.A., age 77, died Wednesday, September 9, 1998 at the Rumford Community Hospital in Rumford. She was a life resident of the area, living on Franklin Street in Rumford and wintered in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

She was born in Rumford on October 23, 1920 and was the daughter of John and Nellie (Gilmore) Pretty. She graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1939, and from the Rumford Community Hospital School of Anesthesia, Quincy, Mass., Class of 1962.

She worked at the Rumford Community Hospital from 1945 to 1961 when she went to be certified as an Anesthetist and returned to Rumford Community Hospital as a C.R.N.A. in 1962 to 1974. She then worked at the Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway from 1974 to 1979 when she returned to Rumford where she was the evening and night nursing supervisor until retirement April 1, 1986 and following retirement she worked part time as evening and night supervisor until 1993.

She was a member of the New England Assembly of Nurse Anesthetist, and also on the nominating committee; Member of American Association of Nurse Anesthetist; served on board of directors of the Maine Association of Nurse Anesthetist; and also for several years served as president of the Rumford R.N. Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Susan Targett of Gray; three grandchildren, Mrs. Russell (Jennifer) Nutt of Industry, Ms. Jill Targett of Philadelphia, PA, and Victor Targett, II of Bremerton, Washington; one great grandson Victor Don Merchant of Gray; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 12, 1998 at the Meader and Son Funeral Home in Rumford with Fr. George Goudreau and Fr. Fichard McInnis officiating. Musical selections were `In the Garden' and `Just a Closer Walk.' Interment was in the Farrington-Morton cemetery in Mexico. Those who desire, please contribute to the Alma P. Tatton Scholarship Fund, c/o Rumford Community Hospital, 420 Franklin Street, Rumford, ME 04276 in her memory.

Henry L. Taylor
1998-03-26

Henry L. Taylor, 91, of Hartford, Conn. and Boothbay Harbor, husband of Elizabeth (Ruby) Taylor, died Monday, March 9 at Hartford Hospital.

Born in Pendleton, Ore., he lived in Hartford for 65 years. Mr. Taylor started teaching in Hartford at Bulkeley High School in 1933, taught at Burr Junior High School until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943. He then returned to the Hartford Schools, was Vice Principal at Hartford Public High School and then served as Principal in 1960 until retirement in 1966.

He graduated Whitman College, Walla Walla, Wash, attended Harvard Graduate School as a Shattuck Scholar in mathematics, and received a Masters degree from Trinity College.

Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a lieutenant, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He received a commendation for bringing the first American war ship into Formosa before the minefields were swept, to release allied prisoners of war.Mr. Taylor was an active outdoorsman teaching canoeing and camping for many years at Camp Wyenoke, Wolfsboro, N.H., and Camp Ahmek in Ontario, Canada.

He was a member of the Broadview Community Church, Hartford, and Phi Delta Theta.

Besides his wife Elizabeth of 68 years, he is survived by a daughter, Katharine T. and her husband, Roger S. Hoff of Trenton, N.J.; a son, Frederick H. and his wife, Judith W. Taylor, of Vernon; five grandchildren, Douglas C. Taylor, Theodore H. Jobes, Benjamin F. Jobes, Jill K. Ferris and Jane E. Houle; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial service was held Friday, March 13, at the Broadview Community Church, Hartford, with the Rev. Dwight Dutton officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Broadview Community Church, 45 Oliver Street, Hartford, CT 06106.

Phyllis I. Taylor
1998-11-19

Phyllis I. Taylor, 75, of Boothbay Harbor, died Wednesday, November 11 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

Born September 5, 1923, she was the daughter of Robert and Pearl McKnight Aldred.

After retiring from Raytheon in Wayland, Massachusetts in 1969, Mrs. Taylor and her husband Ralph moved to Boothbay Harbor and ran the Foc'sle Restaurant, present-day site of the Tugboat Inn & Motel. Later She was the proofreader for twenty years at the Boothbay Register.

Mrs. Taylor enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Taylor in 1979, and a daughter Gail.

Survivors include her daughter Nancy and her husband Richard Christopher of Boothbay Harbor; three grandchildren, Richie Christopher of Portland, and Gail and Nicholas Christopher of Boothbay Harbor; one sister, Mary MacPhee of Florida; one brother, Robert Aldred of Louisville, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall of Boothbay.

Stephen William Taylor
1999-07-29

SOUTH PARIS - Stephen William Taylor, 86, died Wednesday, July 21, at the Market Square Health Care Center, where he was a resident. He had been a resident of the Norway and South Paris area for many years.

He was born in Newry on February 25, 1913, the son of Wallace S. and Floss (Perkins) Taylor, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford with the Class of 1932.

For many years he was a chef at the Oxford Hills High School District, and then at the Market Square Nursing Home in South Paris until his retirement in 1977.

He was a Past Commander of the Norway Knights of Pythias, a member of the Norway Second Congregational Church, a licensed Lay Minister of the Congregational Church, Past Commander and Past Department Commandeer Joshua L. Chamberlain Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, member Norway-Paris Senior Citizens and the Oxford Country Senior Citizens, and was also a Maine Justice of the Peace.

He was married to the late Eva Sampson of Auburn who died August 28, 1964, and he later married Catherine Littlefield in Oxford on September 18, 1965. She died in South Paris on August 8, 1988.

Survivors include step-sons, Wilfred Curtis of Ford, WA, Ivan Curtis of Beverly, MA, and Phillip and Keith Curtis of Spokane, WA; a step-daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Anita) Moulton of Oxford; a sister, Mrs. Diantha Stubbs of Rockford, IL; many step-grandchildren,step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren.

At his request there are no public calling hours, but friends are invited to attend graveside services at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 30, at the North Auburn cemetery in Auburn.

Arrangements are under the care of Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.

Audrey R. Tencza
1998-09-24

NORWAY - Audrey R. Tencza, 63, of High Street, South Paris, died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 19, 1998, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., October 26, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Mercedes and Johannes Scheffer.

A compassionate, caring and loving homemaker she married Walter Tencza in 1957, She and her family moved to South Paris years ago. Although her life was filled with many severe hardships and dark days, her spirit, faith and love were an inspiration to everyone she touched. Her family was her life. Her fellow patients and friends at the Kidney Center in Lewiston were also always in her thoughts and close to her heart.

She loved animals dearly and loved music, especially the oldies and the blues, and was known to sing at the drop of a hat. She loved a good joke and loved to laugh.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Walter; a daughter, Mary of Norway; a son, Joseph, who resided with her; one sister, Marie Reese of Otisfield; two nephews, Tim Reese of South Paris, and Harry Reese of Harrison.

Services will be private. Those who wish, may make donations in Mrs. Tencza's memory to: Lewiston, Auburn Kidney Center. Condolences may be sent to: Box 90 South Paris, Maine.

Harold A. Thayer
1999-03-25

EUSTIS, FL - Norman N. Holden, Sr., 81, died Wednesday, March 17, at a hospital in Eustis, FL.

He was born in Oxford on November 22, 1917, the son of Otho B. and Pearle Locke Holden. He was educated in Oxford schools and graduated from Oxford High School in the class of 1935. He also took classes at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

A fire and boiler engineer, he had worked at MIT, J.P. Stephens Woolen Mill in Lowell and the Talbot Woolen Mill in Lowell and as an engineer for the Factory Mutual Insurance Co.

He retired in 1980 to Bridgton, where he converted his summer cottage on Highland Lake to a year-round home. Mr. Holden was a member of the Thomas Talbot Masonic Lodge in Billerica, MA and a former member of the Lions Club in Bridgton.

He married the former Hazel Thompson on October 21, 1939.

Mr. Holden is survived by his wife Hazel Holden of Bridgton and Taveres, FL; one son, Norman N. Holden Jr of Tamworth, NH; two daughters, Constance.Molesky of Wellington, OH and Beth Holden Smith of Harrisville, NH; one sister, Virginia Hall of Norway; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at a date and time to be announced at the Lakeside cemetery in North Sebago in the spring. Arrangements are under the care of Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home in Bridgton.

Elizabeth B. Thibeault
1998-07-16

CUMBERLAND - Elizabeth B. Thibeault, 80, of Cumberland Center died Wednesday July 8, 1998, at her son's residence in Cumberland.

She was born in Norway on February 23, 1918, the daughter of Archie and Leontine Baribeau Poirier. She was educated in Norway schools. She had been a housewife and was a member of the Bible Believing Baptist Church in Gray. She had lived in Cumberland Center for over 51 years.

She married Wilfred Thibeault on September 16, 1939. She is survived by her husband of Cumberland; two sons, Stephen of East Raymond, Raymond of Montgomery, AL, one daughter, Nancy Budd of West Cumberland; one brother, Harvey Poirier of Norway; three sisters, Beatrice Zanoni of West Paris, Laura Edgerly of Auburn, and Diana Hemingway of Harrison; nine grandchildren, Tomothy and Tammy Budd, Gayla, Daniel, and Chad Thibeault, Barbara Thibeault, Lesa Stevens, Lisa Leavitt, Shannon Thibeault; one great-granddaughter, Leslie Budd; one great-great-grandson Jared Thibeault. She was predeceased by one brother, Arthur Poirier; one sister, Alice Eldridge and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 11, at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley cemetery South Paris. Donations in Mrs. Thibeault's memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 163 Lancaster Suite, 160 B Portland, ME 04101 or to the American Heart Association, Box 346 Augusta, ME 04330.
