Mrs. Alma T. Tripp
1999-07-22

SOUTH PARIS- Alma T. Tripp, 95, of South Paris died Wednesday, July 14, at the Maine Veterans Home.

She was born in New Gloucester, July 18, 1903, the daughter of Albert D. and Mabel Garcelon True.

She attended school in New Gloucester and graduated from New Gloucester High School and attended Bates College in Lewiston.

From 1918 to 1921 she worked at the Poland Spring Inn; she taught school at Cresent Lake from 1928 to 1930. Mrs. Tripp worked in the family business making postcards and was a telephone operator in the New Gloucester Telephone office.

In 1923, she married Leon E. Tripp who died in 1958.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Taylor of South Paris; a sister, Annie Crockett of Bryant Pond; three grandchildren, Marvin Jordan of Arundel, Norma Vantour of Huntsville, AL,and Albert Jordan of Nashua, NH; four great grandchildren, Dominique Kreger of Hunstville, AL, Aaron Vantour of Aniston,AL, Heather Gould of Exeter, ME and Chad Chiloux of Nashua, NH; one great great grandson, Cale Kreger, of Huntsville,AL and two nieces.

At Mrs. Tripp's request there were no services. Interment was in Lower Gloucester Cemetery,New Gloucester.

Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris.

Mr. John I. Marosy

GREENWOOD - John I. Marosy, 79, of Springhill, FL and Indian Pond, Greenwood, died Thursday, July 15, 1999 at his residence.

Born in Hoabis, Romania on June 24, 1920, he was the son of the late Andrews and Helen (Holmajji) Marosy.

He graduated from Lawrence High School, Lawrence, NY with the class of 1939.

A veteran of World War II, Pacific Theater, he served in the Navy Air Corp.

After his discharge from the service he attended State Teachers College of Buffalo, NY and earned a Masters Degree from New York University, completing both in 1948.

He married he former Helen Meade in January 31, 1943.

An Industrial Arts teacher at his alma mater, Lawrence High School, he taught for over 30 years, 22 years at Lawrence High School. In 1975, he retired from Lawrence High School, where he had been a soccer player, coach and referee.

A member of the VFW of Springhill, FL, he also belonged to the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Hungarian-American Club, the Antique Car Club and the Norway Country Club.

Besides his wife of 56 years, he is survived by three daughters, Ilona Schneider of Port Republic, MD, Kathleen Sarvian and Elizabeth Ann Marosy, both of Pasadena, CA; a brother, Joseph of Denver, CO; a sister, Helen Girlando of Port Richey, FL; two grandchildren, Andras Otto and Kristin.

Two brothers, Andrew and Gene predeceased him.

Memorial services were held on Monday, July 19 at the Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock. Interment will be later in Florida.

Dana I. Trask
1999-01-28

PORTLAND - Dana I. Trask, 45, of Oak Street, Falmouth, died Monday, January 18, surrounded by his family at the Maine Medical Center, following a six-month battle with cancer.

Born in Lewiston, he was a son of Floyd E. and Martha Perry Trask. He graduated from Oxford Hills High school in 1971. He was a member of the National Honor society and was Vice-president of the Norway-Paris Key Club.

He attended the University of Maine at Orono. Mr. Trask worked at Western Maine Graphics in charge of quality control; as a stonemason, he built Finnish fireplaces; made custom moldings at the Robert Clements Gallery; and most recently, was employed at S. Hamill Furniture, building fine furniture. Mr. Trask was, above all, a master of detail and a skilled craftsman. He created beautifully crafted woodworking, and perhaps unbeknownst to many, he also wrote wonderfully expressive, clear prose - reflections of his greatest loves: working with wood and words.

Mr. Trask had a love for travel; he journeyed west to live in Idaho for one year. He particularly enjoyed nature and all outdoor activities; he was a strong hiker, a cross-country skier, a runner and a pretty good golfer. He was an avid reader and he loved theater and movies. He was a gentleman whose life has touched many hearts. He will be remembered for his sensitivity, his sense of humor and his quiet kindness. Mr. Trask will be deeply missed by his family, as well as by his many friends in the Oxford Hills area and in Portland.

He was predeceased by his mother, Martha Perry Trask. He is survived by his father and step-mother, Carolyn Brown Trask, of South Paris; two brothers, David L. Trask of Bridgton and Barrett K. Trask of Manchester, NH; three stepbrothers, Harold W. brown of Lethonia, GA, William H. Brown of Oxford and Craig Brown of South Paris; his companion, Barbara Trenacosta of North Yarmouth; his aunt, Joyce Perry of Falmouth and several cousins.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by Hay and Peabody Funeral Home, Portland. Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Trash's memory to the South Paris Library, South Paris, 04281.

Antoinette R. Townsend
1999-06-10

TIMONIUM, MD - Antoinette R. Townsend (nee Klament), 70, died of renal cancer on Monday, June 7, 1999 at home with her family in Timonium, MD. She was born on September 24, 1928 in Norway.

Mrs. Townsend was the daughter of the late Stephen E. and Della H. Klament, both of Norway.

A graduate of Norway High School, she received her BA in English from Colby College in Waterville, class of 1950.

Following her marriage to Kenneth Carleton Townsend on October 12, 1957, Mrs. Townsend moved to Baltimore.

She worked for the New England Telephone and Telegraph in the business office in the 1950s and was the treasurer for 31 years for Townsend Explosives, Inc., the family business.

Mrs. Townsend also volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and Sunday School teacher in the 1960s and 1970s.

In addition to her husband and her mother, Mrs. Townsend is survived by her three daughters and a son-in-law, Susan H. Townsend and Steven R. Koch of Niskayuna, NY; Faith A. Townsend and Stephanie S. Townsend of Timonium, MD and her three grandchildren, William K. Townsend Koch, Emma R. Townsend Koch and Daniel S. Townsend Koch, all of Niskayuna, NY.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at Epiphany Episcopal Church, 2216 Pot Spring Road in Timonium, MD on Sunday, June 13, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The memorial service will be held at Epiphany Episcopal Church on Monday, June 14 at 10 a.m.

Interment at Druid Ridge cemetery immediately follows the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Baltimore, Inc., 6601 North Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21204.

Ruth Travis
1998-05-07

A graveside service for Ruth E. Travis, 75, of Bath who died February 17, 1998 will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8 in Oak Grove cemetery in Bath. Arrangements are by Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath.

Edward P. Travis Jr.
1999-04-08

NORWAY - Edward P. Travis Jr., 72, of Norway died Saturday April 3, 1999 at the Stephens Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Jackson Heights NY on May 22, 1926 the son of Edward P. Sr. and Dorothy Quesnel Travis.

He went to Dutch Neck Grammar in 1940, Peddi School in Hightown NJ in 1944, and attended Princeton University and Worster Poly Technical Institute.

In 1946, he was the US Junior Golf Champion.

Mr. Travis proudly served our country in the US Navy as a member of the Seabees during WWII stationed in Guam.

He was a longtime summer resident of Shepard's Camps in Norway eventually moving to Maine in 1954 to be the golf pro at the Norway Country Club.

He married Diane Robertson on September 1, 1973.

Mr. Travis had worked at A.C. Lawrence Leather Co. for 11 years, he was a tax accountant for 30 years, and had been a real estate broker and owner of Travis Realty for the past 20 years.

He was a former Chairman of the Board of Stephens Memorial Hospital and a member of the board for 27 years, an officer for the past 13 years in Western Maine Healthcare Association, a trustee of Market Square Living and Rehabilitation Center, and a SAD 17 school board member for three years.

He loved to go hunting, fishing, sailing, flying, and work in the woods.

He is survived by his wife, Diane, of Norway; four stepchildren, Ian Walter of Montreal, Canada, Rick Walter and Anne Walter both of Ottowa, Canada, and John Walter of Walnut Creek, CA, and six step grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service scheduled at a later date in the Christ Episcopal Church in Norway. Interment will be in the spring at Riverside Annex cemetery in South Paris. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

John H. Tribou
1999-05-13

HOULTON - John H. Tribou, 62, of Dixfield and Houlton, died May 4, at Houlton, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

He was born in Boston, MA on January 23, 1937, the son of Earl and Marion (Harlow) Tribou.

Mr. Tribou graduated from Cambridge Academy in Cambridge, MA with the class of 1955 and attended the University of Maine at Orono and graduated from Farmington State Teacher's College in Farmington with the class of 1961.

A schoolteacher, he taught kindergarten through the eighth grade and was principal at Livermore Falls and went on to teach history at Dirigo High School in Dixfield until his retirement in 1977.

For many years, he ran the Dixfield Light and Water Company, which had been in the family since it began.

He was a life member of King Hiram Lodge #57 AF and AM, the Maine Retired Teacher's Association, and the National Education Association. He formerly served on the Dixfield Finance Committee and had been active in Dixfield town affairs over the years.

He was an avid collector of antique cars and guns, was a great skier and loved Sugarloaf USA. He was a member of the Maine Antique Power Association and MOALS.

Mr. Tribou is survived by one daughter, Sarah Doucette of Yarmouth and one son, John and his wife, Julie, of Houlton; three grandsons, Zachary Doucette of Yarmouth and Ryan and Caleb Tribou of Houlton; one sister, Ann Kuhns of Greenfield, IN.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 7 at the Meader & Sons Funeral Home in Rumford, with Reverend Randall Burns officiating. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery in Dixfield.

Those who desire may contribute to the King Hiram Lodge, c/o Ralph Clarke, Blayne Street, Dixfield, ME 04224 or to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maine Chapter, 175 Lancaster Street, P.O. Box 8730, Portland, ME 04104 in his memory.

Lois E. Tibbetts
2001-04-19

Lois Emily Tibbetts, died Thursday, April 12 at St. Andrews Hospital.

Born in Ontario, Canada, she was the third youngest of seven children of Louise Selby and Arthur Shaw.

Mrs. Tibbetts was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. She was a true Protestant.

Survivors include two children, Wayne Hayes of Canada and Gayle Ouellette of Boothbay; stepsons, Mark Tibbetts and Mike Tibbetts of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; grandsons, Dan Bryer Jr. of Southport, Luke and Joshua Ouellette of Boothbay Harbor, Nicholas Hayes of Ontario, Canada; one granddaughter, Sara Matthews; great-grandchildren, Abel and Graham Bryer of Southport.

She was a lifelong friend of June and George Hume of East Boothbay and Fort Lauderdale and Mary Proctor of Trevett. Other good friends were Steve Doherty, Carol Pinkham, Emma Munsey, Sandy Brewer, Beverly Martin and Judy Paine.

Services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.
