Lucas G. Kostopoulos

ROCKLAND - Lucas G. Kostopoulos, 27, died unexpectedly April 16, 2006 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

He was born June 14, 1978 in Katerini, Greece and was the son of Georgios and Jeannette Vicelich Kostopoulos. While an infant he moved to the United States with his mother and lived in Rutherford, N.J. In 1981 they moved to Rockland, where he attended local schools.

Following his graduation from Rockland District High School in 1996, Lucas began working with Pizza Hut in Rockland. After five years he moved to Atlanta, Ga., where he continued with Pizza Hut for a brief time. He then moved to Clifton, N.J. and worked at various restaurants there before returning to Rockland where he had since resided. He was employed at Express Lube, Market-on-Main, Cedar Works and most recently Great Eastern Mussel Farm in Tenants Harbor.

Lucas enjoyed restoring his Chevy Berretta, as well as hiking and the outdoors. He had a very special relationship with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his father Georgios of New Jersey; his mother and stepfather, Jeannette L. and Robert Whalen of Rockland; his daughter Katlyn E. Kostopoulos; his maternal grandmother Rose Vicelich of Rockland; his sister Kontessa E. Kostopoulos of Damariscotta; two brothers, Robert J. Kostopoulos of Rockland and Nicholas G. Kostopoulos of Jay; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visiting hours will be Friday, April 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home at 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. No funeral service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to his mother, c/o 35 Lawrence St., Rockland, ME 04841.

Mary Emma Ladd

BRUNSWICK - Mary Emma Ladd, 93, died April 17, 2006 at her home in Brunswick.

Mary was born July 2, 1912 in North Lubec and was the daughter of Charles and Adelaide Whitten Small. She grew up in the Rockland area and graduated from Rockland High School in 1930.

She met and married the love of her life, E. Clifford Ladd, and they were married in a small church in New York City in 1936. They made their home there for the next five years before his job took them to Cincinnati where both of their children were born.

In 1950 they relocated to Melrose, Mass. where Cliff worked for several years before returning to Maine to live in the Camden-Rockland area. Upon returning to Maine, Cliff joined the family business W.C. Ladd Insurance until retiring in the mid-1970s. After he retired they spent their time in Rockland and winters in Florida until 1997. In 1997 they moved to Thornton Oaks in Brunswick to spend the rest of their time.

She was a longtime member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rockland and St. Paul's Church in Brunswick where she spent many long hours participating in charitable events. She enjoyed weaving, making handmade Christmas ornaments, knitting to give gifts to her family and friends, and spending time with her family.

Mary's husband and family said she was their foundation, support and base from which they built successful lives. Mary will be remembered as a woman who was strong in both family and business and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, with whom she had gone for 72 years -- since age 16 -- and to whom she was married for 64 years, E. Clifford Ladd; and her son Walter C. Ladd in 2004.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Harriet Ladd of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her brother Sherwood Small of Goleta, Calif.; her grandchildren, Michael C. Ford, MD of Sequin, Wash. and Mary Elizabeth Schwinck of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her great-grandchildren, Amy, Katie, Tyler and Charlie Schwinck of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Emma and Madeline Ford of Seguin, Wash.; and her nieces, Nancy Moran of Sarasota, Fla., Lorna Steele of Santa Barbara, Calif., Donna Dimick of Ventura, Calif., Gayle Ladd of Thomaston, Ann Carlson of Chelmsford, Mass., and Alison Chapman of Brunswick.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rockland. A memorial reception will be held Sunday, May 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Thornton Oaks.

Arrangements are with Hall and Bibber Funeral Home at 78 Main St. in Thomaston.

Sherman Albert Clements

BELFAST - Sherman Albert Clements died April 21, 2006, at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast. Sherman was born Dec. 16, 1939, in Swanville, the son of Charles and Margaret (Littlefield) Clements.

He attended schools in Swanville and graduated from Crosby High School in 1958. Sherm served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Thule, Greenland. Later, he worked for Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut. After returning to Maine, he worked at various jobs including carpentry.

Sherm was an avid reader and could converse on many interesting topics. He possessed a keen sense of humor and liked hearing and telling a good joke. Sherm's quick wit was appreciated by many. He loved the challenge of bridge and a variety of trivia games. Sherm lived by his own rules and enjoyed his unconventional life. He was pleased to have company and enjoyed frequent visits from John Barleycorn.

Sherman was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Charles Everett, John E. and Nicholas D. Clements. He is survived by one brother, Stephen Clements of Swanville; and five sisters, Adelaide and her husband, Ashley Gray of Searsport, Fannie Brazier of Hancock, Rita Stone of Searsport, Judith and her husband, Packer of Avon Conn., and Cynthia her husband, Gary Basslett of Medway; two sisters-in-law, Jacklyn Clements of West Enfield and Marta Clements of Woodstock. Survivors also include 17 nieces and nephews; 30 grandnieces and grandnephews; three great-grandnieces; and two cousins, Gorden and Parker Clements.

Sherman’s health had been compromised in recent years and he was fortunate to have the kind attention of his brother, Steve, his nephew, Jeff and his neighbor, Joel Kingsbury.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at Greenlawn cemetery in Swanville. Arrangements are with Rackliffe Funeral Home, 54 Church St., Belfast.

Theresa Kelly Dyer

BELFAST - Theresa Kelly Dyer, of Belfast, peacefully went to take her place with Jesus after a lengthy illness. Theresa was comforted by her family in her final hours.

Theresa is survived in love by her husband of 59 years, Herman; her children, Alice Wagner of Waldo, Michael Dyer of Northport, John Dyer of Clinton, Mass., Dorothea Socea of Palermo, Patricia Dyer of Auburn, Ga., Catherine Tyer of Belfast, and Barbara Franklin of Maysville, Ga.; grandchildren, Gabriel Leavitt, the late Alphonzo Thomas Wagner IV, Walter Wagner, and Patrick Dyer; great-grandchildren Julian Leavitt and Jonas Wagner; and a beloved sister, Dorothea Dodd of Framingham, Mass.

A private family service will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Theresa wished people to make a contribution to their favorite charity.

Myrna Loy Baker

WINDSOR - Myrna Loy Baker, of Windsor, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville. She was born in Liberty on Oct. 6, 1934, the daughter of Charles and Sarah (Bailey) Pelton.

Following her schooling, she married George Robert Baker and they shared 52 wonderful years together. Myrna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, George Robert Baker; her daughters, Brenda, Lori and Effie; her son, Chuck; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ernest Pelton.

A chapel service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 24, at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

Waneta C. Clukey

TROY - Waneta C. Clukey, 80, of Pittsfield and Troy, passed away peacefully Monday, April 17, 2006, at Eastside Rehabilitation in Bangor. She was born in Detroit, on Jan. 14, 1926, the daughter of Eugene and Gladys Hopkins.

In September of 1946, she married Vincent (Buster) Clukey and they resided in Pittsfield for more than 40 years. She was a loving mother and family caregiver.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years; her parents; a sister, Earlyle; and a brother, Carl.

She is survived by a daughter, LeeAnna Rowley and husband, David of Troy; two grandchildren, Dale Rowley and wife, Sharon of Thorndike and Denise Nickerson and husband, Albert of Troy; two great-grandchildren, Alex Sargent of Troy and Danielle Sargent and companion, DJ of Freedom. She is also survived by a brother, Eugene Hopkins and wife, Peggy of Detroit; a sister, Thelma Valcourt of Nashua, N.H.; a special nephew, Richard Colburn and wife, Dawn of Brunswick; a special sister-in-law, Dorilda Worster of Corinth; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been made through Brookings and Smith in Bangor. There will be no funeral services at her request. Graveside services may be held at a later date.

Merlon E. Gibbs

BELFAST - Merlon E. Gibbs, of Belfast, husband of Lorraine M. Gibbs, went home to be with the Lord on April 22, 2006, at a Belfast hospital. He was born in Brooks, on May 21, 1932, son of Elva Gibbs.

He attended Brooks schools. Merlon drove tractor-trailer for more than 20 years for Mollison's and Maplewood of Belfast. He also drove school bus for SAD 34 for many years. He started his own businesses, Gibbs Auto Sales and Muffler Shop and Gibbs Trailer Park, which he operated for over 30 years. Merlon regularly attended Faith Temple Church of God.

He was married to Elwanda Salter Bailey from 1967 until her death in 1994. In 1996, he married the former Lorraine Moody Tripp.

Merlon is survived by his wife of 10 years, Lorraine; three sons, Meldon "Crow" Gibbs, Leroy Gibbs and Ricky Gibbs; two daughters, Debbie Burns and Marilyn Carmen; two step-sons, Bert Bailey of Swanville and Jeffrey Tripp of Belfast; two step-daughters, Wanda McLean of Arizona and Julie Tripp of Massachusetts; three sisters, Eleanor DeGraff, Donna Bradford and husband Alton "Bud" and Sandra Smith; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well as a special friend, Tara Lee Webster.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kristi Gibbs.

Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 24, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at Faith Temple Church of God, Lincolnville Avenue, Belfast, with Bishop Charles Hall officiating. Burial will take place at Grove cemetery in Belfast. Those who wish may make donations in Merlon's memory to Soul's Harbor, PO Box 275, Corinth, ME 04427.

Nancy L. Golden

CAMDEN - Nancy Lincoln Golden, 90, of Camden and formerly of Lincolnville, died April 17, 2006 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

She was born in Boston on Oct. 31, 1915 and was the daughter of Thomas F. and Harriet (Nickerson) Lincoln. She was a graduate of Medford High School. She later married Jules Golden.

In 1978, Mr. and Mrs. Golden moved from Long Island, N.Y. to Lincolnville and purchased Cedarholm Cottages on Route 1, which they operated for a number of years. Following the death of Mr. Golden in 1994, Mrs. Golden moved to Camden.

Mrs. Golden was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a former member of the Huntington Historical Society in Huntington, Long Island. She was a communicant of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church and a volunteer at the Camden Public Library for many years. She taught yoga at the Camden Area YMCA and owned the Golden Health Studio at 98 Elm St. where she taught yoga and exercises classes.

She loved gardening, reading and music. She was known for her youthful personality and enjoyed talking with her wide circle of friends in the downtown area of Camden. Her family said she had great respect for education and the gift of small talk.

She was predeceased by her husband, daughter Marie Sklenka and son Jon Golden.

She is survived by her two children, Joyce Jobson and her husband Barry of Lincolnville, and Daniel Golden and his wife Belinda of Montgomery, Texas; five grandchildren, Neal Golden of Montgomery, Texas, Kristin Jobson and her husband George Palmer of Lincolnville, Erika Mond and her husband Alan of Clinton, Mass., Frank Sklenka and his wife Maribeth of Houston, Texas, and Thomas Sklenka and his wife Toni of Worcester, N.Y.; and seven great-grandchildren, Aidan Sklenka, Frank Sklenka, William Sklenka, Ryan Sklenka, Cassandra Sklenka, Callum Mond and Declan Mond.

A private family service and Interment will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Camden Public Library, 55 Main St., Camden, ME 04843; or Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856.

Arrangements are with the Laite Funeral Home at 9 Mountain St. in Camden.

James G. Main Sr.

CAMDEN - James G. Main Sr., 39, of Camden died unexpectedly on April 20, 2006 at his home.

He was born in Camden on April 11, 1967 and was the son of Paul L. and Shirley (Whittier) Main. He attended Camden-Rockport High School. For many years he was employed at Farley & Son as a landscaper. More recently he had been employed with Frost & Bryant Construction Company. He enjoyed playing his guitar. His family said he had many close friends and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Charles Main; and his maternal grandmother, Lucy Taylor.

He is survived by his son James G. Main Jr.; his parents, Paul L. and Shirley Main; and his paternal grandmother, Muriel Main, all of Camden; three brothers, Andrew Main of Union, Sheldon Main and his wife Kim Williams of Camden, and Paul L. Main Jr. of Lewiston; a sister, Paula Robinson and her husband Drew of Auburn; his former wife, Heather Pendleton of Camden; and his four nephews, Alex, Jack, Adam and Cameron.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 26 at 2 p.m. at the Oak Hill cemetery on Hosmer Pond Road in Camden with the Rev. Paul Marshall officiating.

Arrangements are with the Laite Funeral Home at 9 Mountain St. in Camden.

Lorraine R. DeBlois

MONTVILLE - Lorraine R. DeBlois, 64, formerly of Montville, passed away after a long illness Friday, April 21, 2006, at Winthrop Manor Nursing Home in Winthrop. She was born in Yarmouth on March 3, 1942, the daughter of Waymon and Eunice (Gardner) Giggey.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Waymon and Eunice Giggey; her brother, Delmer Giggey; her daughter, Lisa A. DeBlois; and her former husband, Joseph R. DeBlois.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Cynthia White and her husband, Jeffery, of Iowa, and Karen Cyr of Texas; her son, Lyle DeBlois and his wife, Eileen, of Nebraska; her sisters, Eleanor Perkins, Shirley Haskell and Charlotte O'Brien; her brother, Waymon Giggey Jr. and his wife, Mary; her grandchildren, Jordan and Ashton White, Christopher Cyr, and Damien Farris; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 24, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. Condolences may be expressed at lawrybrothers.com. Arrangements are with Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, (800) 660-2111.

Adrian Leroy Hallett

WINTERPORT - Adrian Leroy Hallett, 63, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at his home in Winterport, from natural causes. He was born May 21, 1942, in Bath, the son of Robert and Minnie (Sabine) Hallett.

Adrian served as a private in the U.S. Army in 1961 and 1962, and was honorably discharged. He was a longtime resident of Winterport and worked most of his life as an auto body mechanic. Adrian loved music and in his youth enjoyed playing guitar in several well-known area rock bands during the 1960s and 1970s, including the Del-Tones and the Shevelles. The Del-Tones played at area high school dances, on the Curley O'Brien TV Show, Dick Curless TV Show, and was an opening act for Dick Curless. He was also an avid collector of frogs and enjoyed the Maine wilderness.

Surviving are two brothers, Gary and Ronald Hallett; two sisters, Judy Adams and Ellen Bowley; his children, Randolph, Karen, Michelle, Gary, Maya, Daniel and his adopted son, Walter; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and grandchildren whom he loved dearly including, Aunt Phyllis, Aunt Beverly, Uncle Herman; and his nephew, Tom Adams.

He was predeceased by his birth mother, Minnie Browning; his father, Robert Hallett; and his stepmother, Elizabeth Hallett.

Arrangements are by the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.

Edward L. Skarren

CAMDEN - Edward Louis Skarren, 82, of Camden, died at his home on Saturday, April 15, 2006.

Born in Staten Island, N.Y. on Aug. 4, 1923, he was the son of Louis A. and Katherine (Campbell) Skarren.

Before World War II, he served in the Staten Island Army Reserves. His military service with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 took him to Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and Luxemburg. Skarren served in the general staff section of Corps Headquarters in General Patten's Third Army. He was honorably discharged as a Tech. Sgt. and was awarded the following citations: the American Service Medal, the Victory Medal, the European African and Middle Eastern service medal and the Bronze Star. After World War II, he rejoined the National Guard unit in Staten Island as a Division Training Officer and advanced to the Armored Unit Commander of the 42nd Rainbow Division.

He married Gwenyth Donaghy on May 11, 1946. The couple lived in Norwalk, Conn. for 35 years. He was employed as director of human resources at the Burndy Co. Edward was a member of Rotary International in Connecticut.

In the mid-1990s, Edward and Gwenyth moved to Camden. Edward's hobbies included stamp collecting and fishing. Many fishing trips were shared with his wife, children and grandchildren in the grand lakes region of northern Maine. Happy memories were shared by all.

Edward is survived by his wife, Gwenyth Skarren of Camden; three children, Edward R. Skarren of Camden, Candice Hutchison and her companion, Richard Brown of Belfast and Thia Belajonas and her husband, Stewart Sanderson of Thomaston; his sister, Mildred Buckey of Michigan; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his Rotary sponsored foreign exchange daughter from Brazil, Anna Virginia. He is dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at the John Street United Methodist Church at 98 John Street in Camden. The Rev. Linda Campbell Marshall will officiate.

Arrangements are with the Laite Funeral Home at 9 Mountain St. in Camden.
