Mrs. Jacqueline Rae Webber
1999-11-04

SOUTH PARIS - Jacqueline Rae (Billings) Webber, 51, of Hebron Road, South Paris, died unexpectedly, Sunday, October 31, at Western Avenue.

Mrs. Webber was born in Lewiston on March 3, 1948, the daughter of Mary (Buck) Billings, who survives her, and the late Earl Billings.

She attended Lewiston-Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School, but she was a resident of South Paris for the greater portion of her life.

Besides her mother, her in-laws, Frank and Louise Bovin, with whom she resided, and the father of her children, Robert Webber, she is survived by three daughters, Donna Lumb, Lisa Webber, and Kimberly Webber, all of South Paris; three sons, Sam, Mike, and Tracy Webber, all of South Paris; four sisters; five brothers, six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held at the Andrews Funeral Home in South Woodstock on Tuesday.

Memorial graveside services will be held at the Riverside Annex cemetery in South Paris on Friday, November 5, at 1 p.m.

Mr. Vernon Lee Whitman
1999-11-04

SOUTH PARIS - Vernon Lee Whitman, 80, of South Paris died unexpectedly Sunday, October 31, 1999at his residence.

He was born in Norway on January 4, 1919 the son of Leslie C. and Lydia Swan Whitman.

He was a graduate of Norway High School in 1936 and the New England Conservatory of Music.

Mr. Whitman faithfully served our country in the US Army during World War II.

After military service,he worked as a musician in various resorts such as the Bethel Inn, Lakewood Inn, and the Rio Mar Club in Vero Beach, Florida.

He is survived by two nephews Kenneth H. Whitman and Curtis L. Whitman both of Norway, several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.

At the request of the family there are no services scheduled at this time.

Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris.

Amelia "Mickey" Whitten, 71
1999-10-22

Amelia Stella "Mickey" Whitten, 71, of Shaker Road, died Monday at her home.

Mrs. Whitten was born in Portland, a daughter of Boleslaw and Ann Knapp Tatarcyk, of Poland. She married Winston Blair Whitten in 1948, and had her vows blessed in the Catholic Church in 1963. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in South Portland.

She had worked for Valle's Steak House for 10 years, and retired from Fairchild Semiconductor after 22 years of service.

Mrs. Whitten was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary in South Portrland, and celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary there last year.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, of Gray; three daughters, Connie Luedke, of Lakeland, FL, Donna Young, of Kennebunk, and Vivian Whitten, of Gray; two brothers, John, of South Portland, and Joseph Tatarcyk, of Marysville, CA; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A daughter, Diana, died in 1959.

A funeral Mass was held at St. John the Evangelist Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Elna M. Williams

SOUTH PARIS - Committal services for Elna M. Williams will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 20 at the Riverside Annex cemetery in South Paris. Arrangements are by Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Arlene B. Wade
1999-04-01

LEWISTON - Arlene B. Wade, 88, of Poland died Tuesday, March 23, at D'youville Pavilion.

She was born in Rumford, July 15, 1910, the daughter of C. Guy and Lila Mills Price.

She attended schools in Portland and graduated from Deering High School in 1930.

She married W. Raymond Wade in 1935 and lived in Portland and Westbrook until moving to Poland in 1948.

During World War II, she worked at Montgomery Wards in Portland for two years. In 1953 she began work in the Poland Post Office and was a part time clerk for 23 years.

In the 1950s, she joined the Poland Community Church and was active as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and finance secretary. She was on the Girl Scout

Committee and for several years was an assistant leader. In July 1995, she started living at Clover Living Care Center.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband in 1995; a sister, Beatrice Way in 1983 and a brother, Roy Price in 1980.

Graveside Services will be held later in the spring at Pine Grove cemetery in Poland. The time and date will be announced later. Arrangements are by Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Mechanic Falls.

In lieu of flowers those who wish may contribute in her memory to Poland Rescue, Box 163, Poland, ME 04274.

Filk Ardale Wagner
2000-12-07

WEST PARIS - Filk Ardale Bud Wagner, 87, of West Paris died Monday, November 27, at Ledgeview Living Center.

He was born on the Wagner Homestead in Ray, North Dakota on February 18, 1913, the son of Fred and Lillian Filk Wagner.

He graduated from Ray High School and attended Prescott Junior College. Interested in archeology he helped with digs in Arizona, California and North Dakota. He was a farmer/rancher at Epping, North Dakota and during WW II, he worked as a machinist in Williston, North Dakota. He was a life long member of the Farmers Union of North Dakota, serving on a Washington Delegation.

He was a founding member of the Buffalo Trails Museum in Epping, North Dakota as well as a long time supporter, benefactor and board member.

He also served on the Springbrook township board.

He married Dorothy Hambleton in October 1939. He and his wife lived in Dewey, Arizona for 22 years.

He is survived by his wife of West Paris; one son, Miles and his wife Susan of Honolulu, Hawaii; two daughters, June Forsburg of Payson, AZ, and Faye and her husband Robert Whitney of Topsham; five grandchildren, Guy Wagner, attending college in Minnesota, Shelly Forsburg of Colorado Springs, CO, Rick Forsburg of Florida, Richard Whitney of West Paris and Julie and her husband Michael Fullerton of Windham; six great grandchildren, Christopher Forsburg of Colorado Springs, CO., Chad, Matthew and Bay-Lyn Whitney all of West Paris and Cory and Quinn Fullerton of Windham, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Freddie, Gordon and Newton, and two sisters, Eveline Lucus and Silby Mummert.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

BRENDA JOYCE WAKELIN
1999-10-28

Brenda Joyce Wakelin, 54, of East Boothbay died Oct. 23, at Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Boothbay Harbor, a daughter of Walter and Elizabeth Jenkins Symonds Jr., and graduated from Boothbay Regional High School.

She made her home in East Boothbay. For many years she cared for community children at the day care at the YMCA, before beginning her own business.

Her hobbies included gardening, animals and daily walks to the shore.

Surviving are one son, William B. Wakelin IV of East Boothbay; and her father, Walter H. Symonds Jr. of Boothbay Harbor.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Frank J. Walker
1999-07-29

Frank J. Walker, 55, of San Jose, Cal., died June 30. He was born Dec. 16, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Penn., the son of Sophie and Frank Walker. He had an antique and refinishing business called Wicked Good Antiques.

He was the devoted husband of Naomi Walker. He and Naomi enjoyed being house parents to foreign exchange students from Denmark, Spain, France and the Czech Republic. They enjoyed traveling, visiting friends and relatives, and spending time in Maine.

Frank is predeceased by his sister, Katherine Grundy of South San Francisco, Cal. He is survived by his sisters Mary Kolander of Prescott, Ariz. and Eleanor Walker and Helen Kiern of Allison Park, Penn. and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at the Oak Hills Funeral Home in San Jose, Cal. on July 3. Frank will be buried at the Flagg cemetery in Nobleboro.

Estelle Walker
2000-11-03

Sylvia Estelle Walker, 86, died October 30 at Ledgewood Manor.

Born in the foothills of the White Mountains in New Hampshire, she was a daughter of Charles and Eva Rand Allen. She grew up in Westbrook, Maine, and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1932.

Mrs. Walker had been a member of the First Congregational Church of Gray, and sang in its choir. She was also a member of Gray Extension.

Her husband, Lawrence Walker, died in 1994.

She is survived by two daughters, Sheryl Wilbur, of Gray, and Linda Strout, of Gorham, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Thursday at the First Congregational Church of Gray, with Pastor George Bovill officiating. Arrangements were by Wilson Funeral Home.

Connie Walkwitz
2000-11-09

AVON, CT - Connie (Ingersoll) Walkwitz, 54, of Avon, CT, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, died Monday, October 31, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Born in Cleveland, OH, Mrs. Walkwitz received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in physical education from Springfield College in Springfield, MA. She taught physical education for 10 years at numerous elementary schools and Talcott Junior High School in the West Hartford Public Schools.

For the last 17 years she taught physical education and coached field hockey, gymnastics, and lacrosse at The Renbrook School in West Hartford, CT.

She was an active member of the West Avon Congregational Church for the past 26 years, where she taught Sunday School and supported Pilgrim Fellowship youth activities.

She was a former member of the Board of Deacons and this past year began a prayer shawl ministry at the church.

She and her family have been summer residents of Otisfield since 1986. Each summer in Maine she worked at Tripp Lake Camp where she was head of the ropes course.

She was a former president of the Silvaqua Homeowners Association in Otisfield and was the treasurer of that association for the last eight years.

Mrs. Walkwitz was also a member of the Lake Thompson Environmental Association. She was an avid swimmer and energetic gardener, a lover of the outdoors, a gifted painter and a sports enthusiast.

She was a former member of the Connecticut Gymnastics Judges Association, past treasurer of the New England Prep School Lacrosse Association, a former member of Clowns of America and a past Corporator of The Renbrook School.

She was the beloved wife for the past 26 years of Donald E. Walkwitz of Avon, CT, and the devoted mother to Jennifer R. and Scott I. Walkwitz, both of Avon.

She was the daughter of Charles B. Ingersoll of Kennett Square, PA, and the late Grace (Dodd) Ingersoll.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Penny and Bob Klebe of St. Louis, MO; her sister-in-law, Ginny Walkwitz-Fish and late brother-in-law Garry Walkwitz of West Springfield, MA. She was the proud aunt to four nephews and one niece, Kurt and Kevin (Tracy) Klebe, Casey and Evan Walkwitz and Karen Klebe.

Mrs. Walkwitz was the ultimate optimist. Her attitude was infectious, touching all who came into her life. Her vibrant energy and spirit motivated her students to take risks and put smiles on the faces of all. Each new day she challenged herself to find goodness in every person she met and to perform random acts of kindness. In honor of her beautiful life, you are encouraged to do random acts of kindness. This is what she would want.

Visiting hours were on Friday, November 3, at the Ahern Funeral Home in Unionville, CT.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, November 4, with the Reverend Donald H. Ketcham officiating.

In addition, there will be a Memorial Celebration of Mrs. Walkwitz's life at The Renbrook School in West Hartford, CT on Saturday, November 11.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Elfrieda E.A. Wallace
1999-03-11

Elfrieda Alice Wallace, 92, of Alna, died Friday, March 5 at the home she shared with her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Donna Wallace Jr.

Born in Germany August 5, 1906, she was the daughter of Wilhelm and Johanna Zarski Zerull. She attended German schools. She had lived in New Jersey and Connecticut before moving to Alna.

On April 25, 1941 Mrs. Wallace received her certificate of naturalization.

On December 22, 1923 she married Robert Thaxton. He died on July 8, 1938. On December 6, 1943 she married Frederick Wallace Sr. He died July 10, 1961.

Mrs. Wallace was a homemaker. She enjoyed working with flowers, crocheting and knitting.

Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Wollman and Elfrieda Ballou, both of Florida; four sons, Robert Thaxton of New Britain, Conn.; Roy Thaxton of Plainville, Conn., Charles Thaxton of New Britain, Conn., and Fred Wallace Jr. of Alna; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 13 at the Alna Newcastle Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, Federal Street, Wiscasset.
