George E. Weatherbee III

George E. Weatherbee III

George Edward Weatherbee III, 78, of Wiscasset, formerly of Seabrook, N.H., died Friday, February 28 at his sister's home in Wiscasset.

He was born in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of George Edward and Clara M. (Randolph) Weatherbee Jr. He attended Wiscasset schools and graduated from Staten Island High School. He was employed in the Wiscasset area for several years and later at the South Portland West Shipyard.

He entered the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Weatherbee was a self-employed marine cultivator in Wiscasset for years, moved to Connecticut and was employed at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Company. He was later employed as a glass glazier on high-rise buildings in New York, Oregon and Connecticut until retiring in 1988. He moved to the Virgin Islands for a few years and in 1996 he moved to Seabrook, N.H.

He was a life member of the Glass Glazing Union.

Mr. Weatherbee enjoyed fishing, hunting and dog track racing.

He is survived by one son, Robert Weatherbee of New Jersey; two sisters, Margaret K. Colby of Wiscasset and Lillian Z. Pereira and her husband Manuel of Cambridge, Mass.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite #300, Topsham, ME 04086.

Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.

Shirley E. Webb
2003-03-13

Shirley Eleanor Rowe Webb, 62, of Bath died March 3 in Portland.

Born on June 16, 1940 in Boothbay, she was a daughter of Oler and Helen Patac Rowe.

She attended local elementary schools.

She was employed at Goodwill industries and she also worked as a caregiver.

Mrs. Webb lived in many Maine towns including Boothbay, Portland, Norridgewock and Bath.

She had many hobbies and enjoyed wrestling, feeding the birds, doing crossword puzzles, playing bingo, attending county fairs, running her scooter around Bath and visiting with family and friends.

She was predeceased by her father, Oler (John) Carleton Rowe; her mother, Helen Barbara Patac Rowe; and her husband, Silas S. Webb Jr., of Portland.

Survivors include her sisters, Virginia E. Blake of Searsmont, Nancy L. Downing of Wiscasset and Carolyn P. Barter of Boothbay; her brother, Henry C. Rowe of Boothbay; her step-children, Darrel Parsons of Windham and Mary Webb Quimbly of Skowhegan; and many nieces and nephews. Visitations will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 14 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at the Boothbay Baptist Church. The Rev. Dan McNutt and Rev. Wallace Staple will officiate.

Arrangements are under the care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Mildred F. Webster
2003-02-20

Mildred Frances Delano Webster died peacefully at the age of 91 on February 15.

Born May 26, 1911 in Boothbay Harbor, she was a daughter of Arthur Edward and Lena G. (Patten) Delano.

In 1928 she graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School as class valedictorian and following commercial studies, worked for Central Maine Power Company in Augusta and Boothbay Harbor.

In 1937 she married Wollcott D. Webster and was instrumental in thepurchase of Webster's Greenhouse, now known as Boothbay Region Greenhouses. From 1946 to 1970, Mildred and Wollcott developeda successful business and raised four children.

Mrs. Webster was very active in her community as a supporter of church, school and civic events. She was a member of the Susannah Wesley Circle in the United Methodist Church, volunteered at the Boothbay Region Historical Society, and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was unflagging as caregiver when her husband developed medical problems; and she, herself, survived two bouts with cancer.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wollcott Douglas Webster, her sister, lna Murray, and two brothers, Orson and Harris Delano.

Surviving her are children: John Stephen Webster and wife, Jean, of Portland and Ocean Point; June Campbell Rose and husband, Robert, of Edgecomb; Arthur Delano Webster and wife, Faith Foster, of Boothbay; and Susan Birdene Webster and husband, Stuart Kestenbaum of Deer Isle.

Also surviving are grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Stephen Carl Webster and wife, Theresa Olivia Webster and their children, Ethan and Nicole of Dallas, Texas; Kim FrancesWebster and husband, Michael Gods and their children, Grace and Ava of St. Louis, Missouri; Nathan Douglas Campbell and partner, Crystal Flora Clark and their child, Devyn Wyatt Campbell; Daniel Thomas Campbell, Jason Leonard Campbell and wife, Tricia Campbell: all of Boothbay Harbor; Areth Foster-Webster and Adam Foster-Webster of Boothbay; Isaac Wollcott Webster Kestenbaum and Samuel Delano Kestenbaum of Deer Isle. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

In memory of Mildred Webster, donations may be given to Meals on Wheels, the Susannah Wesley Circle, or the American Cancer Society.

A celebration of Mildred's life was held Tuesday, February l8 at Simmons, Harrington, & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Burial will be at Oaklawn cemetery following the service.

Arrangements are under the care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Barbara I. Weeks
2003-05-01

Barbara Ives Weeks, 88, of Southport died Tuesday, April 22 at Ross Manor in Bangor.

Born December 7, 1914 in Reading, Mass., she was the daughter of George and Ida Smith Ives.

In 1932 she graduated from Reading (Mass.) High School. She also attended Bradford Junior College, graduating in 1934, Boston School of Domestic Science, graduating in 1936, and Cornell University, graduating in 1938.

While residing in Massachusetts, she was a volunteer at Massachusetts General Hospital and its Women's Visiting Committee. She also volunteered at Winchester Hospital in Winchester, Mass., and the Chelsea Naval Hospital. She was a two-term member of the Reading, Mass. School Board and a founding member of the Church of the Good Shepard in Reading.

While residing in Maine, she was a member of the YMCA Coastal Club, the Boothbay Region Senior Citizens Club and the St. Andrews Hospital Auxiliary, where she accumulated 10,000 hours of service. She was a past president of the Lincoln Home and of the former Monday Club, a member of the Southport United Methodist Church, St. Philips Episcopal Church in Wiscasset, and most recently attended the St. John Episcopal Church in Bangor.

Survivors include her son, Charles Weeks and his wife Lois of Hampden; her daughter, Rebecca Singer and her husband James of Princeton, N.J.; her grandchildren, Tracey Weeks of Bangor, Kristin Weeks of Brewer, Jeffery Singer and his wife Lea of Dallas, Texas, Jennifer Palmer and her husband Thomas of Houston, Texas, and Gregory Singer of Hoboken, N.J.; her great- grandchildren, Elizabeth Singer and Andrew Singer, both of Dallas, Texas, Cormac Palmer and Colin Palmer, both of Houston, Texas; her niece, Karen Metcalf of New York, N.Y.; and her brother-in-law, Frank Weeks of Concord, California.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 26 at the Southport United Methodist Church. The Rev. DanaBeth Wells-Goodwin officiated. Interment will be in Decker Cemetery, Southport.

Donations may be given to the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service, 18 Corey Lane, Boothbay, ME 04537 or Southport Fire Department, c/o Southport Town Office, P.O. Box 149, Southport, ME 04576.

Arrangements are under the care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Doris C. Wanser
2003-06-26

Doris C. Wanser, 86, of Wiscasset died Wednesday, June 18 at her son's home.

Born in Philadelphia, Penn. on May 15, 1917, she was the daughter of William J. Jr. and Nellie (Curtain) Stahl.

She moved to Long Island, New York and on October 12, 1935, married Abraham Wanser. They had their three children while living on Long Island and moved to Wiscasset in 1946. They moved to Milbridge in 1966 where she owned and operated Canterbury Gift Shop for over 20 years. She also assisted her husband at Milbridge Bait for many years before retiring in 1992. She moved to Wiscasset in 2001 to live with her son, Randy Wanser.

Mrs. Wanser was a member of The First Church of the Nazarene in Bath where she was very active in many duties including being a soloist and the Sunday School Teacher.

She enjoyed walking the beach, golfing and fishing.

She was predeceased by her husband Abraham Wanser on October 1, 1999.

Survivors include one son, Randy Wanser and his wife Ellen M. of Wiscasset; two daughters, Delores Norris and her husband William D. of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Lenora Dodgen and her husband Charles of Cedar Park, Texas; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, June 24 at Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath with Pastor Barry Dutton officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove cemetery in Bath.

Donald E. Wallace
2003-11-13

Donald E. Wallace, 70, of Westport Island, passed away Thursday, November 6 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Born in Bath January 8, 1933, he was a son of Robert C. and Vera Brown Wallace.

He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the Army.

Mr. Wallace was a member of the Bath Elks Club.

In July 1996, after 46 years of employment, he retired from Bath Iron Works, where he worked as a welder helper, welder and for 25 years in Electrical Maintenance.

Mr. Wallace enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, working in his workshop and going to the fairs. He also enjoyed country music, Bluegrass, watching John Wayne movies, war movies and a good joke. He spent many hours enjoying the company of his dogs.

He was predeceased by his father and mother; his brothers, Irvin Albean Wallace and Robert C. Wallace Jr.; his sisters, Phyllis Wallace Wright and Vera Wallace Cody.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Jean C. Mosier Wallace of Westport Island; two sons, David F. Wallace of Lewiston and John R. Wallace of Westport Island; one daughter, Joanna R. Wallace of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Michelle L. Chartier of Westport Island; grandchildren, Joshua R. Wallace and Mellissa M. Wallace of Lewiston, and Phyllis A. Wallace of Westport Island; two sisters, Eleanor Wallace Ripall of Waterville and Mary Wallace of Dresden; half-sisters, Barbara Swassy Holly of San Leandro, Calif.; half-brothers, Richard Swassy of Wayne and Kenneth Swassy of Dresden; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral.

The family invites friends and relatives to a celebration of his life at the home he shared with his wife at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 15, Main Road in Westport Island.

Zoya U. Walter
2003-01-16

Zoya U. Walter, 84, of Wiscasset died Saturday, January 11 at Hillhouse Convalescent Home in Bath.

Born in Stretinks, Siberia on April 21, 1918, she was the daughter of Michael and Ksenia (Nikonof) Urin.

She attended and graduated from Russian Gymnasium in Tienton, China. For four years, she attended English Grammar School, also in Tienton.

She married Robert H. Walter in Tienton. He died in 1977.

Mrs. Walter was employed by the clothing department for Milman Vanity Fair in Detroit, Michigan until 1968. The Walters then moved to Brooksville, Florida and after Mr. Walter's death, Mrs. Walter moved to Wiscasset in 1978.

Mrs. Walter was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club.

She was predeceased by her sister, Nina U. Fairfield.

Survivors include some dear friends, Elaine E. Grover and her husband, Ernest, and Gail M. Andretta, all of Wiscasset.

A funeral service was held Thursday, January 16 at the Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset, with Pastor Trevor Mc-Shane officiating. Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery, Richmond in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wiscasset High School Scholarship Fund, 272 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset, ME 04578.

William C. Westfall
2003-10-23

William C. Westfall, 60, of Wiscasset died Sunday, October 19 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born in Clendenin, West Virginia, the son of Jess and Frances Westfall. He entered the United States Navy in 1961 where he served honorable for 20 years retiring as Chief Petty Officer. In 1977 he married Sherry Christiansen and they resided in Wiscasset. Mr. Westfall was employed at Bath Iron Works as assistant dock master. He was later employed at Lester Morse's Auto Sales in Wiscasset as the manager and car salesman.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his 1961 GMC pickup.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Westfall of Wiscasset; one son, Randy Westfall and his wife Lisa of Virginia Beach, Va.; one daughter, Lisa Westfall of Lacy, Washington; three stepsons, Steven Christiansen of Wiscasset, Eric Christiansen of Wiscasset and Jimmy Christiansen of Saco; three brothers, Ronald Westfall of Charlotte, N.C., Tom Westfall of West Virginia and Dallas Westfall of West Virginia; two granddaughters, Sarah Westfall of Rome, N.Y. and Leah Altenburg of Lake Mill, Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Donald Westfall.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 23 at Old Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.

Meghan N. Weymouth
2003-02-06

Meghan Nicole Weymouth, infant daughter of Brian and Rhonda Weymouth of Manchester, New Hampshire died on January 21 at Elliot Hospital surrounded by her family and friends.

Born January 8, she weighed 1 lb. 4 oz. and was 12.5 inches long. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, her fighting spirit and her unconditional love.

Predeceased by her sister Rebecca Lynn, she is survived by her parents and her half-sister, Brandi; her maternal grandparents, David Holmes of Boothbay Harbor, and Patricia Holmes of Brunswick; her paternal grandparents, Dale and Tonya Watson of Newport; her paternal great-grandparents, Royce and Bernice Woodman of Newport; and a very special tribal grandmother, Shirley Bear of Hooksett, N.H. She is also survived by a multitude of extended family and friends.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, January 29 at the Phaneuf Funeral Home in Manchester, N.H.

A private burial service will be conducted at a future date and in accordance with the culture and traditions of the Abenaki people.

In lieu of cards and flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the March of Dimes in her memory.
