Robert Wagner dies
2006-03-10

Robert Luke Wagner, 28, a businessman and mortgage loan officer, died unexpectedly on February 15.

He resided in Gray with his wife, Natalia Lebedeva Wagner.

He was born in Orlando, Florida, on May 4, 1977, the youngest son of Robert Lee and Felicity Anne (Hyde Ferrell) Wagner. He attended high school in Stowe, Vermont.

He went on to attend the Artisans College for wooden-boat building in Rockport and the University of Southern Maine in Portland, where he majored in economics and business administration.

He worked at various National Parks over the years, including Many Glacier in Montana and Denali in Alaska, as well as in Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest.

Robert was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, snowboarding, waterskiing, hiking, camping and sailing. Robert attended several Outward Bound programs both here in Maine and in the Sawtooth Mountain Range in the Sierra Nevada. He possessed a deep respect for life and nature.

Robert was predeceased by his maternal aunt, Coralie Hyde McAleer, his maternal grandfather, John Welford Hyde, and his father, Robert Lee Wagner.

He is survived by his wife, Natalia; mother, Felicity Anne Ferrell; stepfather, William M. Ferrell, Jr.; brother Rowan Robert Wagner; sister Louise Gabrielle Wagner; maternal grandmother, Phyllis Flaskett Hyde; half-brothers Lee, Richard and David Wagner; cousins Gavin and Ian McAleer; cousins Nicholas Hyde and Emma Hyde Straite; uncle Stevens McAleer; and stepbrother William M. Ferrell III.

A funeral service was held at The Cathedral Church of St. Luke in Portland last Saturday; burial followed at Evergreen cemetery on Stevens Avenue in Portland.

Arrangements were by Conroy-Tully-Crawford.

Charles Wagstaff Jr.
2006-02-02

Charles Boice Wagstaff Jr., 46, of Boothbay, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, January 22, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, surrounded by his family.

Born July 8, 1959 in Boothbay, he was a son of Charles Boice Sr. and Ella Geraldine (Farnham) Wagstaff.

He attended school in Boothbay and over the years worked for many local contractors.

Mr. Wagstaff enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking projects. He was a member of the North American Hunting Club.

In addition to his mother of Boothbay, he is survived by a son, Charles Wagstaff, III and his wife Erin of Alna; a daughter, Krystal Wagstaff and her husband Seth Powers of Saco; two brothers, Peter Wagstaff and wife Ronnie of Boothbay Harbor, and Jack Wagstaff and his wife Grace of Woolwich; four sisters, Mary Pinette of Lisbon Falls, Frieda Truchon and her husband Ernest of Concord, N.H., Gayle White and her husband David of Warren, and Ruth Mc-Lellan of Boothbay Harbor; a granddaughter, Brooke Wagstaff of Alna; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his beloved dog, Molly.

Services will be held at the convenience of Mr. Wagstaff's family. Arrangements are under the direction of Coast of Maine Cremation and Funeral Service, Waldoboro.

Should friends so desire donations may be made in Mr. Wagstaff's memory to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 27 Atlantic Highway, Edgecomb, ME 04556; or the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine and Blood Disorders, 100 Campus Drive, Scarborough, ME 04074.

Alice E. Yates
1999-08-05

Alice E. Yates, 88, of Portland, a longtime teacher who enjoyed her family, friends, gardening and her church, died Wed. at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born in Portland, a daughter of Herbert L. and Alice M. Keene. She attended Portland schools, and graduated from Gorham Normal School and Gorham State Teachers College.

Yates began teaching in 1931 and over her 43-year career taught in Casco, followed by two years of private tutoring, with several years at Emerson School in Portland and 35 years at Jack Junior High School there, retiring in 1973.

She was an accomplished gardener. Her love of flowers was demonstrated by her past and present memberships in the Longfellow Garden Club, Maine Rose Society and Maine Iris Society. She nurtured many prize-winning irises and roses with her green thumb.

Yates' continued support of the community was reflected in her active membership at Chestnut Street United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the church's finances and worship committees, as well as the Holden Class group. She held memberships in local, state and national teacher organizations and enjoyed needlepoint, rug braiding, painting and playing the piano.

Her husband, Edmund M. Yates, died in 1936.

Surviving are a son, David M. Yates of Bristol; a sister, Margery Schofield of Portland; three grandchildren, Philip Yates of Berwick, Joanna Yates of Falmouth, and Kristen Doughty of Rhode Island; and three great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were Fri. at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home. A service was held Sat., July 31 at the funeral home; Rev. Garvin Warden officiated. Burial was July 31 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Round Pond.

Bryce Hayes Yates
1999-02-11

NORWAY - Bryce Hayes Yates, 66, a life- long resident of Sunday River in Newry, , passed away on Monday, February 8, 1999.

He was born in Greenwood to Estes and Eva (Hayes) Yates, attended the local schools and was a graduate of Gould Academy in Bethel, prior to joining the Army.

After his service discharge, Mr. Yates drove truck for the Merrill Transport Company in Portland, He married Barbara Myshrall of Andover on October 21, 1956 and they build their home in Sunday River where they raised their three children. He owned and operated B. H. Yates Logging Co. until his retirement.

Mr. Yates was an avid skier and a past member of the Sunday River Ski Patrol, He loved to travel and especially loved to go to Alaska where he fished and hunted with his wife and their friends.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; his three children, Elden H. Yates, of Rumford, Edwick A. Yates, of Brownsville, VT, and Damita J. Yates Taylor of Middleton, NH; five grandchildren, Eva, Eriel, and Zachary Taylor, Justin Yates, and Jeremy Martin; two brothers, Russell "Joe" Yates and Lawrence Yates, both of West Paris; two sisters, Linona "Peg" Blake of West Paris, and Laura Hutchins of Andover.

Mr. Yates was predeceased by a brother, Carroll "Tom" Yates, and two sisters, Viva Whitman, and Georgie "Becky" Haines. Bryce Yates was a wonderful husband, father, and friend who had a most generous heart and soul. He will be forever loved and missed.

Memorial services will be held at the Andrews Funeral Home, S. Woodstock, at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 12.

Friends and family are invited to the Yates' home in Sunday River directly after the memorial services. Committal will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Androcsoggin Home Health Hospice Program, 15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240.

Elizabeth I. Yeaton
1998-10-08

NORWAY Elizabeth 'Betty' I. Yeaton, 71, of Norway died Saturday, October 3, 1998, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She was born in Chatham, NH, December 6,1926, the daughter of Lawrence and Hattie Irish Bean. She attended school in East Waterford and had worked at the Portland Eye and Ear Hospital and in Norway area shoe shops.Mrs. Yeaton enjoyed knitting and loved animals.

She was married to Harry Yeaton who predeceased her.

Survivors include two brothers, Leon Bean and Lyman Rogers both of Norway; five sisters, Mary Millett of Norway, Florence Foss of Mechanic Falls, Camilla Mowatt of Oxford, Pauline Norton of West Paris and Elsie Thompson of Bridgton; three stepchildren, David, Marlene and Barbara Yeaton; many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Yeaton was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Edwards and Phyllis Millett and three brothers, Jimmy Richards, Perley Bean and Roswell Brown.

At Mrs.Yeaton's request there will be no services. Arrangements are by Weston-Chandler Funeral Home,230 Main Street,Norway.

Those who wish may make memorial gifts in her memory to the American Cancer society,52 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME.

Dorothy E. York
1998-04-09

POLAND Mrs. Dorothy E. York, 78, of Main Street Poland died Sunday, March 22 at her home following a long illness with her children at her side.

She was born in Oxford on August 18, 1919, the daughter of Edward and Cherilla Cobb Bryce.

She attended schools in Oxford and Mechanic Falls. On May 27, 1935, she married Gilbert M. York, who dies on February 12, 1992. She was a homemaker all her life and she was a special mother and grandmother who liked having her family and friends spend time with her.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. William (Harriet) Stretton, Lewiston, Mrs. Charles (Charlette) Landers,Oxford, Mrs. Garold (Marion) Smith, Athol, MA and Mrs. Francis (Mary Ann) Martin, Poland; three son, Lawrence and wife Jean York of Pittson, Everett and wife Suzanne York of Poland and Donald Lovell of Waterford; three brothers, Edward Bryce of Biddeford, Lewis Bryce of South Paris and Frederick Bryce of Turner; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by two sone, Charles in 1957 and Clarence in 1960; two sisters, Rose Young and Edith Smallidge and two brothers, Franklin and Harry Bryce.

John F. Yates
1999-09-23

GREENWOOD - John F. Yates, 57, of Route 219, Greenwood, died Saturday morning, September 18, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Yates was born in West Paris, December 25, 1941, the son of Lempi (Leino) Yates, who survives him, and the late Glennwood F. Yates.

He attended Greenwood, and West Paris schools.

On November 12, 1961, he married the former Louise Martin.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Yates served in the U. S. A. F., in Vietnam and the Philippines, and was discharged in 1964.

A carpenter by vocation, he was an active member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, of America, Local 1996, of Augusta.

Besides his wife of 37 years, and his mother, Lempi, and her husband Cecil Heath, of Greenwood, Mr. Yates is survived by a daughter, Marcia and her husband, Shawn Houston, of West Paris; a son, Jeffery, and his wife, Joanne, Yates, of West Paris; a brother, Robert Yates, of Greenwood; a step-brother Roland and his wife Linda, Heath, of North Norway; four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Nancy Garthe and Irene Yates.

Graveside memorial services will be held at the Wayside Cemetery, West Paris, at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 24.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 930 Brighton Ave., Portland, ME 04102, or Androscoggin Home Health& Hospice, 15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240. Arrangements are by the Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock.

Mrs. C. Merline Young
1999-12-30

PORTLAND - C. Merline Young, 69, of Brockschool Road,Buckfield died Friday evening at Maine Medical Center.

She was born in South Paris,August 18,1930 the daughter of Milton and Hazel Pratt Johnson.She attended area schools and was a homemaker. She enjoyed painting, ceramic, crocheting, hunting and fishing and will be remembered as everyone's angel. On October 16,1948 she married Donald Young.

Survivors include her husband of Buckfield,8 children Donald,Jr. and his wife Esther of Buckfield,Stanley of Buckfield, Diana Young of Buckfield, Hazel Ackley and her husband John of Sumner, Theresa Mack and her husband Roger of West Paris, Marie Young of Buckfield, Kathy Wade and her husband Robert of Buckfield and Randolph and his wife Wendy of Buckfield, 2 sisters Francina Segar of Auburn and Marliyn Gagne of New Gloucester, 1 brother Richard Johnson and his wife Natalie of South Paris,16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

At her request there are no services. Interment will be in the spring in Buckfield. Arrangements are under the direction of the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, South Paris.

Dr. H. William Yeo
2000-09-07

CUMBERLAND CENTER - H. William Yeo, M.Ed., Ph.D., 69, of Cumberland Center died from brain cancer on September 2.

He was born in Arlington, MA on September 9, 1930, son of Harry M. and Katherine M. Yeo. He attended Arlington High School in Arlington, MA, received a B.S. and M.Ed from Springfield College, Springfield, MA, and a Ph.D in botany from the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH.

Dr. Yeo served with the Second Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force during the Korean Conflict.

He served as the Superintendent of Schools in Jackman, Principal of Greely High School in Cumberland, and Assistant Principal of Telstar Regional High School in Bethel. He taught biology at Charlestown High School in Charlestown, NH and at Peterborough High School in Peterborough, NH. He coached track and field and cross-country running at Greely High School, Peterborough High School and Charlestown High School. Following retirement from education, he worked at Grover Gundrilling Inc. in Oxford.

Dr. Yeo love the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving is his wife of 43 years Mary Huntington Yeo; five daughters, Kathleen E. Smith of South Portland, Mary A. Yeo of Charlotte, NC, Linda J. Martin of Norfolk, MA, Huntington L. Yeo of Santa Barbara, CA, and Carolyn A. Seamans of Windham; two sons, William P. Yeo of Durham and Michael B. Yeo of Yarmouth; and six grandsons.

A private service will be held at the Maine Veterans' Memorial cemetery in Augusta.

Arrangements are by the Wilson Funeral Home.

Francis R. York
2000-11-30

NORWAY - Francis R. York, 96, of Norway died Saturday, November 25 at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.

He was born in North Norway on December 23, 1903, the son of Edwin and Gertrude Holt York.

He attended school at Chapel district in North Norway. In his younger days he lived with his grandfather Eldridge Holt.

He was a woodsman and a sawmill man, contracting and operating mills for the Diamond Match Co. of Biddeford.

He owned and operated his own sawmill on the Pottle Road in Oxford for 10 years.

He married Frances Adams Ayer in 1937; she died in 1940.

In 1946 he moved to Calais and worked in a lumber mill there for 11 years.

He married Ella V. Leavitt in 1946. He and his wife moved back to Norway in 1958. He retired in 1968 and lived in Arcadia, FL, for eight years, moving back to Norway in 1981.

He was a member of the Oxford Hills Christian Fellowship Church of Norway.

He loved the church, having faith in Jesus Christ and Hope of Eternal Life.

He is survived by one stepson, Richard Ayer of Norway and several nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by a brother, Maurice and two sisters, Grace and Mabel; two stepdaughters, Marie MacMillan and Eleanor Ivery and a stepson, Ralph Ayer. Family and friends attended graveside services on Monday, November 27, at the Norway Pine Grove cemetery in South Paris.

In his memory donations can be made to the Oxford Hills Christian Fellowship Church, P. O. Box 147, Norway, ME 04268.

Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.
