Joyce Moore, 74

SACO - Joyce H. Moore, 74, resident of Garfield Street in Saco, died Dec. 13, 2001 at the St. Andre's Health Care Facility in Biddeford, after a brief illness.

She was born May 26, 1927 in St. Albans, Vt., the daughter of William T. and Geraldine (Bell) Hinchey.

She graduated from Rutland High School with the Class of 1944 and attended Becker Junior College. She received a bachelor's degree in English from Castleton State College in Vermont.

She was employed by the State Department of Health as the office manager in Rutland, Vt. for many years.

She enjoyed the study of English history, and was pleased to have an article she wrote published in the Burlington Vermont Free Press. She traveled extensively in Europe, was a volunteer at the Southern Maine Medical Center, and loved spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald E. Moore, who died in 1992.

She is survived by three daughters, Karen Moore and Jeri Zanotti both of Saco, and Merideth Love of San Angelo, Texas.

A Memorial Service will be held next summer in Rutland, Vermont. Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

Debra Richard, 45

BIDDEFORD - Debra A. Richard, 45, of Wesley Drive, died Dec. 9 at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Biddeford on Sept. 4, 1956, a daughter of Harry Leroy and Dorothy (Hubert) Hanson, and was educated in Kennebunk and Biddeford schools.

She worked a few years in the Bradbury Brothers Quick Stop in Biddeford.

Surviving are two daughters, Tracy Spaulding of Sanford and Kayla of Biddeford; one son, Chris LaBelle of Biddeford; her stepmother, Frances Hanson of Kennebunkport; three grandchildren, Trisha Perreault, Corey Lavigne, and Shane Spaulding, all of Sanford; and several nieces and nephews.

Lucille Sevigney, 65

SPRINGVALE - Lucille L. Sevigney, 65, died Dec. 11 at the Parkview Adult Care Center.

She was born in Sanford on March 15, 1936, the daughter of Francois X. and Rhea I. (Tellier) Fortier and attended local schools, graduating from Wells High School in 1954.

She worked in Saco for 15 years as a bartender for the former Oak Ledge Restaurant, Motel and Lounge. She moved to the Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. area for 18 years and was a secretary for the March of Dimes for more than five years. After moving back to Maine in 1993, she worked for Shop'n Save in Sanford as a cashier.

She enjoyed crafts, cooking, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, traveling and road trips. Family members say she was a devoted grandmother.

Survivors include three sons, Gordon Frank of Atlanta, Ga., Steve of Wells, and Terry Wayne of Clarksville, Tenn.; one daughter, Cori Arseneault of Springvale; and six grandchildren.

Marian Wilson, 82

BIDDEFORD - Marian H. Wilson, 82, of South Street, and formerly of Arundel, died Dec. 15, 2001, at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford, following a brief illness.

She was born in Wilmar, Ark., on Jan. 9, 1919, a daughter of Leonard and Nellie Permelia (Pendergrass) Wharton and was educated in Arkansas schools and graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga, Tenn.

On June 26, 1936, she married Frank Wilson in Georgia. He died Nov. 10, 1994. She came to this area early in 1960.

She worked for 25 years at Corning Components Inc. in Biddeford and Kennebunk.

While a resident of Arundel, she served on the town planning board, the Arundel Fire Dept. Auxiliary, and the Arundel Mother's Club.

She was predeceased by two sons, Donald F. and Michael D. Wilson, and one brother, Ralph Wharton.

Surviving are one son, David C. Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla.; four daughters, Vivian Collins of Greenville, Miss., Dorothy Pilon of Kennebunk, Anne Allen of Manchester, N.H., Ellen Huot of Biddeford;

17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren

There will be no visiting hours. By her own request, her body was donated to the University of New England Anatomical Donor Program. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, ME 04005.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Maine Alzheimer's Disease Assoc. Inc., 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101-2406.

Cecile Morgane, 75

KENNEBUNKPORT - Cecile (Murette) Morgane, 75, of Kennebunkport, died July 19, 2001 of cancer at her home.

She moved to Kennebunkport from Shrewsbury, Mass., in 1994. She and her husband Peter, had enjoyed their home here since 1980, spending weekends and many summers.

She was born in Paris, France, on Feb. 18 1926, took a baccalaureate degree at University of Paris, and moved to the United States in 1946. She lived under the German Occupation of France from 1940-1944. She married Peter Morgane in 1964 in New York City.

She and her husband have shared many enjoyable world travel experiences and regular trips to her beloved Paris. She traveled to Japan, India, Java, China, North and East Africa, Greece, Peru and Brazil among other destinations.

She founded and operated Shrewsbury Travel in Massachusetts from 1975 to 1984. She was active in the Book Club at Graves Memorial Library and was an avid conservationist and supporter of the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust.

Survivors include her husband, Peter Morgane of Kennebunkport and several cousins in France.

A Mass of Christian Burial was be celebrated Saturday, at St. Martha Church, Route 1, Kennebunk. followed by burial in the Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Southern Maine Health and Home Care Hospice, Route 1, Kennebunk, ME 04043 or Louis T. Graves Memorial Library, PO Box 391, Kennebunkport, ME 04046 or Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, PO Box 2800, Cape Porpoise, ME 04014, in her memory.

Rev. Norman Kellett Sr., 85

KENNEBUNK - Rev. Dr. Norman L. Kellett Sr., 85, a resident of Huntington Common and formerly of Railroad Avenue, Kennebunk Beach, who died Feb. 24, 2001 after a brief illness will have a memorial service 3 p.m., Sunday Aug. 5, at the Trinity Chapel, Railroad Avenue, Kennebunk Beach, with the Very Rev. Frank Howard officiating. Following the service, everyone is invited to a reception at Huntington Common, Ross Road, Kennebunk.

Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

Bruce Abbott, 75

NORTH BERWICK - Bruce V. Abbott, 75, of Boyle Road, passed away July 22, 2001 in Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, N.H.

He was born Feb. 12, 1926 in North Berwick, son of Bernard and Aurore (Fontaine) Abbott. He attended North Berwick schools and graduated from Berwick Academy.

He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1944 until July of 1946. He went on to work for Hussey Mfg. Co. in North Berwick on fire escapes. He then was employed at General Electric in Somersworth, N.H. for 36 years before retiring.

He was a member of the American Legion Quint Cheney Post 87, former member of Fourth Degree Thomas Reilly Council in Dover, N.H., Third Degree Knights of Columbus in Somersworth, N.H. He served on the Parish Council at Our Lady of Peace in Berwick and was Eucharist Minister. He served on the North Berwick School Committee, MSAD 60 Board of Directors, Budget Committee, Sanitary District and the York County Regional Planning Board. He presently was a selectman for the town of North Berwick.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Denise Abbott in 2000.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Martha (Hussey) Abbott; three sons, Robert of Sanford, Barry and Bernard, both of North Berwick; two brothers, Lincoln Abbott of South Carolina and Remi Abbott of Biddeford; for sisters, Una Oxner of Palm Springs, Calif., Carolyn Hutchings of Las Vegas, Nev., Alice Monroe of Maine, Donna Turcotte of South Berwick; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be Thursday from 3 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace, Berwick Street, Berwick. Interment will be in the Abbott private cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.

Family flowers only.

A reception will be held in the church hall following the Mass. All are welcome to attend.

Brendan Burke, 17

SHAPLEIGH - Brendan W. Burke, 17, of Royal Coachman Way, died July 8, 2001 in Rumford.

He was born in Sanford, a son of Jack Burke and Melody L. Wood, and attended Massabesic High School.

He had spent the last year in Texas, finishing school and working in carpentry. He recently returned home to Maine.

He enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and dog. He also enjoyed fishing and listening to music.

Surviving are his father, Jack Burke of Kennebunk; his mother, Melody Wood of North Carolina; three brothers, Adrien of Shapleigh, Damien of Chicago and Carter of Sanford.

Private ceremonies were held to celebrate his life. Arrangements were by the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

Robert Caldwell, 75

KITTERY - Robert H. Caldwell, 75, of Sunset Drive, died July 15, 2001 at York Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Biddeford, a son of Hugh S. Bertha (Lord) Caldwell, and was a 1944 graduate of Biddeford High School.

He served in the Air Force for two years during World War II. He then attended the University of Maine and graduated in 1950 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He began working at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1950 and retired in 1981. He held several engineering positions, and headed the planning-yard division.

He was active in Scouting in the 1960s, had served as a Scoutmaster and was a photographer. He was a member of the Dunlap Masonic Lodge of Biddeford and the National Association of Naval Technical Supervisors.

He was also a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and enjoyed outdoor activities, including snow skiing, canoeing and water skiing. He loved spending time with his family at their camp on Square Pond in Shapleigh. After retiring he and his wife enjoyed traveling to Arizona in their travel trailer.

Surviving are his wife, Esther (Silcox) Caldwell of Kittery; one son, Russell Caldwell of Kittery; two daughters, Rebecca Caldwell of Kittery and Roxanne Williams of Brunswick; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Friday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Arrangements were by J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home.

Sheila Clarke, 81

SACO - Sheila Clarke, 81, of South Street, died July 16, 2001 at the Glen Ridge Nursing Home in Augusta.

She was born in Surry, a daughter of Weldon and Gladys (Maddox) Winchester. She graduated from Ellsworth High School and Eastern Maine Technical College and worked for 20 years as a certified nurse's aide at nursing homes in Brewer and the Ellsworth area. In 1933, she moved to Saco.

Her husband, Boyde, died in 1974. Two sons, Boyde Jr. and Allen, also died previously.

Surviving are one son, Joseph of Bluefield, W. Va.; three daughters, Barbara Gray of Limerick, Carolyn Martin of Swans Island and Yvonne Morrison of Jefferson; one brother, Boyd Winchester of Portland; one sister, Olivine Dolliver of Ellsworth; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held last Wednesday at the Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home. Burial will take place later.

David Desmond, 83

YORK - David FitzGerald Desmond, 83, of Cameo Court in the Sentry Hill Retirement Community, York Harbor, died July 15 at York Hospital of prostate cancer.

Born in Portland, a son of John and Helen (Dougherty) Desmond, he was a graduate of Cheverus High School and Portland Junior College.

He had lived in York since 1946 and worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the design division. He was a retired lieutenant colonel of the Air Force.

He was president of the Old York Improvement Society and the York Chamber of Commerce in the 1960s. He and his wife operated Desmond Cottages on Long Sands Road from 1951 to 1980. He was also the owner of the Desmond Real Estate Agency.

He was a former member of the York Golf and Tennis Club and played tennis until he was 81.

He was interested in his Irish heritage and helped raise money to restore the Great Hall at Desmond Castle in Asketon, Ireland. He liked spending vacations at his cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee and wintering with friends at Marco Island, Fla.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Constance (Hirst) Desmond of York Harbor; one son, Russell J. of York; one brother, Thomas J. Desmond of Chatham, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Jacqueline and Brandon of York.

There were no funeral services.

Robert Dupuis, 68

ARUNDEL - Robert O. Dupuis, 68, of Campground Road, died July 17, 2001 at his home after a long illness.

He was born in Boston, a son of Arthur and Lydia (Rezenders) Dupuis, and attended schools in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

He served with the Navy during the Korean War. On Aug. 14, 1954, he married Lorraine Frechette at Holy Family Church in Sanford.

They moved to Arundel in 1967, when he began building the Shady Oaks Mobile Home park. He managed it until the 1970s.

He worked for 10 years at Eastern Plastics in Sanford. He also worked for Morningstar Corp. for 10 years retiring in 1977 because of multiple sclerosis, which he had had for 29 years.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Lorraine (Frechette) Dupuis of Arundel; two daughters, Debra Cloutier of Arundel and Rachel Dupuis of San Diego; three brothers, Arthur of Port Orchard, Wash., Raymond of Watertown, Mass. and Wilfred of San Jose, Calif.; one sister, Rita Hawley of San Jose; and two grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at St. Martha Church. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
