Roger Lambert, 81

BIDDEFORD - Roger A. "Ted" Lambert, 81, of Hill Street, died Aug. 5, 2001 at the home of his son Michael, following a long illness.

He was born Aug. 30, 1919 in Biddeford, a son of Napoleon and Delare (Garneau) Lambert and was educated locally.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On July 4, 1946, he married Muriel Fecteau at St. Andre's Church.

He was employed with the Saco-Lowell Shops/ Maremont Corporation for 36 years retiring in 1982.

Mr. Lambert was a member of St. Andre's Church where he was an altar server and Eucharistic Minister. He had been active in the Spouse of the Holy Spirit prayer group. A member of the Biddeford Senior Citizens, he was also a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Luke E. Hart Council and a member of the American Legion, Tighe-Bowdoin-Farley Post.

He was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Muriel Lambert of Biddeford; two sons, Roger G. Lambert of Wells and Michael Lambert of Biddeford; four daughters, Mrs. Roger (Diane) Martin of Wells, Mrs. Roger (Denise) Bilodeau of Saco, Mrs. Camille (Lucille) Dumont of Biddeford, and Mrs. James (Linda) Bisson of Biddeford; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at today at 10 a.m. at St. Andre's Church, Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Maine Affiliate, 10 Bangor St., Suite F, Augusta, ME 04330, or Visiting Nurse Service of Southern Maine, 15 Industrial Park Road, Saco, ME 04072.

Gary Smith, 47

ARUNDEL - Garry A. Smith, 47, a resident of Campground Road, Arundel formerly of Preston, Conn., died Aug. 5, at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was born in Groton, Conn. on June 4, 1954, a son of Andrew J. and Yvonne A. (Pinnette) Smith. He graduated from Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, Conn.

He was employed by the Saco Defense of Saco as machinist.

He was survived by his wife of 19 years, Irene A. (Cormier) Smith; two sons, Christopher and Thomas and his parents, all of Arundel; one brother, David Smith of Biddeford; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, with the Rev. Graham Pierce officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society - Maine Division, 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011, in Mr. Smith's memory.

Sharon Archie, 54

WELLS - Sharon A. Archie, 54, resident of Charlie Loop Road in Wells, died Sept. 16, 2001, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 18, 1947, in Exeter, N.H., a daughter of George E. and Angelia H. (Dunn) Hunter. She graduated from Eliot High School in Eliot, with the class of 1965 and received a nursing degree from New Hampshire Technical College in Portsmouth.

She moved with her husband to Wells in 1978 coming from Rye, N.H.

She was employed as an L.P.N. at Interim Health Care of South Portland for 12 years.

She was active in the 4H in her younger years. She enjoyed doing various types of crafts and also enjoyed camping in Mt. Blue State Park in Maine with her husband.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Stanley P. Archie of Wells; two sons, Jason P. Archie of Gunnison, Colo. and David S. Archie of Brighton, Mass.; one daughter, Angela M. LoCicero of Lexington, Ky.; her mother, Angelia H. Hunter of Eliot; one brother, Gary M. Hunter of Rochester, N.H.; one sister, Diane C. Archie of North Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Rev. David Avery officiating. Should friends desire memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, ME Affiliate, PO Box 346, Augusta, ME 04330-0346 or to the Marlee Animal Shelter, Boyd Road, Wells, ME 04090 in Mrs. Archie's memory.

Edward Durham, 81

NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. - Edward Eugene "Gene" Durham Sr., 81, of 20 Old Locke Road, died Sept. 9, 2001, at the Pheasant Wood Nursing Home in Peterborough.

He was born in Pickens, S.C., Aug. 16, 1920, the son of the late George I. and Lenora S. (Turner) Durham.

A veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he settled in the seacoast area after the war and had resided in North Hampton since the 1960s.

A brick mason by trade, he owned and operated Seacoast Masonry for 30 years retiring in 1986. In the early 1960s he was one of the first three, full time firefighters with the North Hampton Fire Department.

He was the husband of the late Mildred (Harris) Durham who died last December and was predeceased by a son, Edward Eugene Durham Jr., who died in 1993.

Family members include two sons, Ronald B. Durham of Wells and Martin I. Durham of Rindge; two stepsons, Robert L. Shields of Bedford and Dana K. Shields of Hampton; one stepdaughter, Karen Shields of Concord; two brothers, Glen Durham of Birmingham, Ala. and Ralph Durham of Greenville, S.C.; three sisters, Lib Sims of Pickens, S.C., Ruth Davis of and Faye Collins, both of Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests there are no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted.

Vivian Leathers, 91

GORHAM - Vivian C. Leathers, 91, formerly of Birch Lane, died Sept. 13, 2001, in a Waterville healthcare facility.

She was born in Burlington, a daughter of Jason L. and Emma (Sheridan) Pierce, and attended Waterville schools. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1928, and attended Thomas Business College in Waterville.

She and her husband, Bernard O. Leathers, owned and operated Fat's Restaurant at Route 25 and Mosher Road in Gorham for 25 years. She worked for Dixon Brothers Oil Co. of Gorham for 16 years.

She was a life member, past matron and past treasurer of the Pine Tree Chapter, Order of Eastern Star of Gorham. She was a member of School Street United Methodist Church of Gorham and the church's Fidelity Group. She was also a member of the Gorham Rebekahs and the Gorham Garden Club.

Her interests included crafts, hunting, fishing and time at the family camp on Moxie Lake.

Her husband died in 1957.

Surviving are one daughter, Donna Jones of Ogunquit; one son, B. Dana Leathers of Coplin Plantation; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A service was held Saturday at Dolby and Dorr Funeral Home. Burial followed in the family lot at Eastern Cemetery.

Ann Renner, 85

KENNEBUNK - Ann Underhill Temple Renner, 85, a resident of Kennebunk, passed away Sept. 9, 2001 at the York Hospital in York, after a brief illness.

She was born in Westchester, Pa., on March 18, 1916, a daughter of Jacob Paxton Temple of Chaddsford, Pa. and his wife Eda Underhill of Glenn Head, Long Island, New York.

Her father was vice president of Pennsylvania Railroad and a major antique authority.

A graduate of Swarthmore College and the University of Pennsylvania, she spent her early years as a fashion designer for noted hat designer Mr. John in New York City and later as celebrity booking agent for Radio City Music Hall, also in New York.

In 1944 she married Nelson N. Renner of New Jersey and moved to Maine where she began a career that spans more than 45 years a dog breeder and kennel owner, raising Saint Bernards. Until 1975 she was the owner of Hi Tor Kennels in Wells.

During that time she and her younger son Thomas, showed their Saint Bernard, Baron, throughout the East Coast where the dog became No. 1 smoothcoat Saint Bernard in the country for two years in a row and No. 1 in New England for an additional four years. Baron was also the top-winning dog in Maine for six years in a row, which still remains a state record.

She moved to Lower Village, Kennebunk in 1985 where she lived until her death. She was a staunch historic preservationist and a World Wildlife Fund supporter.

She is survived by one son, Thomas U. Renner of Kennebunk, who was at her bedside at her death and his life partner Paul D. Marston; three grandchildren, Eva, Heather and Dawn; one deceased son, Richard of Attleboro, Mass. and his widowed wife Barbara Renner of Baltimore, Md.

A private service will be held at the Concordville, Pa., Friends Meeting House where she will be buried with her parents, sister and brother in the Temple Family Plot. Arrangements by the Bibber Memorial Chapel- Kennebunk, ME.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Animal Welfare Society are appreciated.

Frederick Rimmele III, 32

MARBLEHEAD, Mass. - Frederick C. Rimmele III, 32, died Sept. 11, 2001 on board United Airlines Flight 175, while en route to a medical conference in Monterey, Calif.

He was a compassionate and gentle person, with an adventurous spirit and generous heart. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone. The tragic circumstances of his death are a grim reminder that life can be terribly unjust and its unfolding difficult to grasp. His death will leave a great void in all the lives of those who knew and loved him. The love he shared freely will be cherished.

Together with his wife, though they hiked the Swiss Alps, toured the Irish countryside, birdwatched in the rainforests of Belize, canoed the backwaters of Maine, they especially loved being with each other, walking hand in hand.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Trudel; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick C. Rimmele Jr.; one sister, Karen M. Connors; his grandmother, Mrs. Frank Kunzier; loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service is to be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 135 Lafayette St., Marblehead, Mass. on Monday, at 11 a.m.

Georgette Rioux, 88

ELIOT - Georgette Leone Rioux, 88, of the Baran Place, Beech Road, died Wednesday Sept. 12, 2001 at York Hospital after a short illness.

She was born in Salem, Mass., June 28, 1913, the daughter of Polycarpe and Marie Louise (Morin) Tremblay.

She worked for many years as a shoe stitcher in Salem, retiring in the early 1960s. She had lived in Salem her whole life until six years ago when she moved to Eliot to be closer to her daughter.

She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed playing the organ at recitals. While in her 20s, she played the organ for radio station WESX in Salem.

Her family was the major focus of her life and she was a beloved and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Emile Rioux, who died in 1982.

She is survived by one daughter, Andrea L. Rioux of Cape Neddick; one brother, Conrad Tremblay of Idah; one sister, Yvette Plummer of Long Branch, N.J.; two grandchildren, Kim Wynne of Wells and Gregory D. Wadland of Nashua, N.H.; two great-grandchildren, Aaron Wynne of Wells and Lukas Wadland of Nashua, N.H.; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York. Interment was in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody, Mass.

James Roux, 42

PORTLAND - James M. Roux, 42, of Portland, Maine, died Sept. 11, 2001. He was a passenger on the hijacked United Airlines Flight 175 that crashed in New York City.

He was the son of the late Donald A. Roux of Cumberland Foreside. He was a 1977 graduate of Lewiston High School, a 1981 graduate of Bowdoin College and a 1984 graduate of University of Maine Law School. Roux served three years in the United States Army as a captain in the JAG Corp for the 82nd Airborne Division and was a decorated paratrooper. He also served in the Army National Reserves.

He practiced law in Hartford, Conn. and Portland, Maine. He was a litigator who recently helped with large settlements for several families affected by asbestos exposure and lead poisoning.

A devoted father to his two sons, he was an avid fly fisherman, mountain climber and outdoorsman. On his numerous trips to Nepal, he hiked the Himalayas, ascended to the base camp of Mt. Everest, and climbed Island Peak. He loved to hike and rock climb in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He was also an accomplished guitarist with a passion for music.

He is survived by two sons, James Michael Roux Jr. and Patrick Kelly Roux; his mother, Constance Roux Scalera and stepfather, Frank J. Scalera Jr. of Cumberland Foreside, Maine; one brother, David Roux of Woodside, Calif.; and four sisters, Donna Hart of Brisbane, Calif., Catherine Moin of Washington, D.C., Sally Tartre of Kennebunk and Mary Train of Portland, Maine; one stepbrother, William Scalera and two stepsisters, Deborah Martin and Barbara Pepper, all three from Pittsburgh, Pa. He was the nephew of the late Gov. James B. Longley.

A private memorial service was held at Bowdoin College Chapel, on Saturday.

Mary Abbott, 90

NORTH BERWICK - Mary G. Abbott, 90, of High Street, passed away Sept. 2 at her residence after a long illness.

She was born Dec. 31, 1910, in Kennebunkport, daughter of Theodore and Mary (Perkins) Goodwin. She graduated from Kennebunkport High School before attending Gorham Normal School, where she earned her degree in teaching.

She had taught in the local schools for many years, retiring in 1976. She had been a member of the York County, Maine and National Retired Teachers Associations.

She was a 70-year member of the Bauneg Beg Grange as well as a member of York Pomona, the Maine State Grange and the National Grange. She was also a member of Noble 50 Plus Club.

She was predeceased by her husband, Maynard Abbott, in 1969.

Surviving are one son, David Barden and one daughter, Virginia Cole, both of North Berwick; grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Hillside Cemetery, North Berwick, with Rev. Robert G. Cole Sr. of the Bethel Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are by the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.
