Azalea Cutter, 83

KITTERY POINT - Azalea L. (Boyer) Cutter, 83, of Kittery Point, died May 24, 2002 at the York Hospital.

She was born June 14, 1918 in Kittery Point, the daughter of the late Asa and Francelia (Emery) Boyer. She attended Traip Academy and furthered her education by attending the University of Maine where she graduated with the class of 1938, with a degree in English.

She married Rev. Frank Cutter on Aug. 20, 1942 in Kittery Point. Her husband predeceased her in 1995.

Together she and her husband lived throughout Massachusetts, where he served various churches as pastor. She was always involved in the church activities working with her husband. She loved to sing in the church choir, play organ, help serve at church suppers and became friends with many of the parishioners of the various churches, that her husband served.

She was a proud member of the Tri-Delta Sorority, Friends of Rice Library and was involved with the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed reading about history and the state of Maine. She was particularly fond of books written by Maine novelists.

She is survived by her two loving sons, Dr. Bruce Cutter of Columbia, Mo. and Rev. Dr. Alan Cutter of Duluth, Minn.; one sister, Marilyn Beyenberg and her husband, Robert of Norway, Maine. She will always be remembered by her cherished grandchildren, Ryan Cutter and his wife Sarah, Jessica Cutter, Elizabeth Horr and her husband Joshua, Catalin Cutter, Deborah Cutter and Timothy Cutter; and her beloved great-grandchild Isaac Orr.

She was predeceased by a brother, Hilbert "Bud" Boyer.

A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family in July at the Kittery Point UCC Congregational Church. Burial will take place at a later date in Thomas Parker Cemetery, Newbury, Mass.

Memorial donations may be made to the Bangor Theological Seminary Class of 1940 Scholarship Fund, 300 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.

Lorraine Freeman, 80

CAPE NEDDICK - Lorraine L. Freeman, 80, of 82 River Road, died May 21, 2002 at her residence after a long illness.

She was born on Aug. 23, 1921 in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Napoleon and Alma (St. Martin) Ledoux and was a graduate of the Worcester School of Commerce.

She moved to Portsmouth at age 18 and had worked at the Button Factory and later in the Safety Department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

She and her husband had owned and operated Freeman's Market in Cape Neddick from 1952 until 1984.

She was a communicant of St. Christopher-by-the-Sea Church of York. She was a former member of the Star of the Sea Sodality and the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Napoleon and Leonard Ledoux, who both died during World War II and by a sister, Gloria Angers.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Robert E. Freeman Sr. of Cape Neddick; two sons, Robert E. Freeman Jr. and his wife, Susan of Kittery Point and Craig M. Freeman of York; one daughter, Mrs. Diane L. Losier and her husband, Steve of Cape Neddick; one sister, Mrs. Raymond (Estelle) Bernard of Newmarket, N.H.; three grandchildren, Nathan and Danielle Losier and Zachary Freeman; three step-grandchildren, Christopher and Glendon Yorke and Matthew Jones.

A Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life were held Saturday in St. Christopher Church, York.

Interment was in First Parish Cemetery.

Family desires memorial donations may be made to the York Beach Fire Department, PO Box 70, York Beach, ME 03910 or the York Volunteer Ambulance, PO Box 238, York, ME 03909.

Arrangements are by Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.

George Morgan, 81

KENNEBUNKPORT - George Eldred Morgan, 81, a longtime resident of Kennebunkport and a

World War II Naval officer, died May 1, 2002 in a suburban Denver hospital after a long illness.

A Chicago native, Morgan received in 1942 a bachelor of science degree in journalism from Northwestern University. He then volunteered for military duty, and spent much of the war commanding a wooden-hulled sub-chaser in the Caribbean Sea, hunting for Nazi U-boats that plied the waters disrupting oil shipments from Venezuela.

He was discharged in 1946 as a Lieutenant Junior Grade and was awarded the American Theater of Victory Medal.

After the war, he held a number of marketing and advertising positions in Chicago, New York, Memphis, Tenn., and Los Angeles. Early in his career he assisted in the production of the Captain Midnight television program. In later years he worked as a free-lance writer.

He lived for 14 years in Pacific Palisades, Calif., moving in 1986 to Kennebunkport. He moved to Littleton, Co., in June, 2000.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, the former Marcia Fisher of Littleton; four children from a previous marriage, Geoffrey Morgan of San Antonio, Texas, Taylor Monroe of Lake Forest, Ill., Elizabeth Tanner of Wilmette, Ill., and Jon Morgan of Baltimore; two step-daughters, Julie Love of Littleton, Colo., and Dr. Susan Bentley of Louisville, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

A service was held May 12 at Green Mountain

Presbyterian Church, Lakewood, CO 80228.

Janet Welch, 86

KENNEBUNK - Janet E. Welch, 86, resident of Ross Road in Kennebunk died May 27, 2002 at the Kennebunk Nursing Center following a long illness.

She was born July 21, 1915 in Kennebunk, a daughter of Levy O. and Lucinda E. (Kimball) Welch. She graduated from Kennebunk High School with the class of 1932.

She worked for 25 years as a receptionist at E.R. Warren of Kennebunk and also worked part-time for 55 years at the Kennebunk Free Library retiring in 1994.

She was an accomplished craftswoman who enjoyed weaving and had taught weaving classes at the Brick Store Museum in Kennebunk. She was a member of the Spinners & Weavers Guild of Alfred. In addition to weaving, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Welch who died in 1999.

She is survived by three nephews, William Welch of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, James Welch of Nevada, and Francis Bregger of Quincy, Mich.

A private Interment service will be held in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.

Gary Shaw, 69

SANFORD - Gary Francis Shaw, 69, a resident of Spencer Hill Road, formerly of Kennebunkport, died May 23, 2002 at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 25, 1932 in Kennebunk, a son of Francis A. and Adabelle (Durrell) Shaw, and attended local schools.

Except for a brief time living in New York in the 1960s where he owned and operated a tree service company, he was a life-long lobsterman, retiring in 1992. After his retirement, he continued to spend time on the waterfront helping out his friends.

He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, and particularly enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Margaret (Marchand) Shaw of Sanford; mother Adabelle Blaisdale of Ayer, Mass.; four sons, Christopher and John of Kennebunk, Gary of Sanford, and Erik also of Kennebunk; one daughter, Elizabeth Adjutant of Acton; three step-daughters, Donna Wieland of Falmouth, Dinah Teed of Kennebunk, and Bobbi Jean Przekopowski of East Waterboro; several brothers and sisters; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Sunday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk, with Rev. Stephen Hastings officiating.

Roland Chaloux, 85

WELLS - Roland Anthony Chaloux, 85, resident of Old County Road died May 27, 2002 at his residence following a long illness. He was born Feb. 17, 1917, in Adams, Mass., a son of Alphonse and Emela (LeBlanc) Chaloux and attended schools in Massachusetts.

He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.

He was self-employed for many years as owner/operator of a logging company and also worked for several years at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church of Wells.

He was a lifetime member of the Lions Club of Wells and was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus also of Wells.

He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and also enjoyed playing horseshoes, card games, hunting with his sons and also enjoyed bowling in bowling leagues in Sanford and at the former Glenmor Lanes in Kennebunk.

He was predeceased by his wife Hermie (Barrows) Chaloux who died in 2000, one brother and four sisters.

He is survived by two sons, Norman and his wife Carmen Chaloux of Washington, Vt., Daniel and his wife Kelley Chaloux of Moody; one daughter, Dolores King of Wells; one brother, Alcide Chaloux of Westminster, Vt.; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, with a Knights of Columbus service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, in St. Mary's Church, Eldredge Road, Wells. Interment with Military Honors will be in ocean View Cemetery, Wells.

Dorothy Nickerson
Service Notice

WELLS - Dorothy Wheat Nickerson, 78, resident of Wells, died March 11, 2002 in Kennebunk.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday in Ocean View Cemetery, Post Road, Wells.

Arrangements are by the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells.

Mary Rodger, 56

SOUTH BERWICK - Mary L. Rodger, 56, of Lords Lane, formerly of Kennebunk, died suddenly May 6, 2002 in Ormond Beach, Fla.

She was born March 20, 1946 in Sanford, the daughter of Frederick and Doris (Shuffelberg) Vigue, and was a graduate of Kennebunk High School, class of 1964.

She was employed as a health unit coordinator with Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, N.H. for 10 years, retiring in 2000 due to health issues.

She was a member of the Eliot Advent Christian Church and AGLOW, a group within the church, sang in the choir and served on its decorating committee. She was a former member of the Kennebunk Advent Christian Church.

She enjoyed collecting dolls, traveling and making flower arrangements, which won her several blue ribbons at local fairs.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Rodger of South Berwick; one son, Paul Rodger of Ridgecrest, Calif.; one daughter, Lisa Furlong of Gonic, N.H.; one brother, Frederick Vigue of Springvale; one sister, Lena Archambeault of Sanford, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sea Road Advent Christian Church with Rev. Conary Warren officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, West Kennebunk.

Norma Kinsman, 78

MOODY - Norma (Richards) Kinsman, 78, of Gautier, Miss., died April 23, 2002, in Biloxi, Miss.

A resident of Gautier, Miss. since 1975, she was raised in Moody and was a past resident of Ft. Lenordwood, Mo., and Karlsrue, Germany.

She was born to Perley James Richards and Maude Helena (Faulkner) Richards on April 8, 1924, in Greenfield, Mass.

She was married to Carroll F. Kinsman for 37 years. She was dedicated to her church and loved to work and help the children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maude and Perley Richards and sisters, Hope Randall and Muriel Russell.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Carroll F. Kinsman of Gautier; one sister, Virginia R. (John M.) Thomas of Chickasaw, Ala.; many nieces; nephews; other family members and friends.

A graveside service was held April 26 at Jackson County Memorial Park, Pascagoula, Miss.

Arrangements are by O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Pascagoula, Miss.
