Mary Havey, 65

MOODY - Mary B. Havey, 65, died May 2, 2002 at her residence in Moody.

She was born in New York City, Jan. 25, 1937 and grew up in Yonkers N.Y. and attended schools there. She graduated from St. Mary's High School and Pace University.

She was a psychiatric nurse in Bellevue Hospital in New York City, also worked at Westchester Medical Center, N.Y., and retired in 1992 from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, in Lebanon, N.H., due to ill health.

She was an avid reader, liked plants, traveling and enjoyed socializing with others. She was an excellent homemaker,

Surviving are her husband Stanley W. Havey of Moody; one daughter, Jennifer Romanchyk of Greenfield, Mass.; three stepchildren, Betty Fagans of North Springfield, Vt., Barbara Brill of Unity, N.H. and Stanley Havey Jr. of Ascutney, Vt.; and six step-grandchildren.

Services will be held later at the family's convenience.

Hazel Blazonis, 74

SOUTH BERWICK - Hazel E. Blazonis, 74, of Berwick Estates, died May 4, 2002 at Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, N.H.

She was born in Wells Nov. 4, 1927, the daughter of John R. and Evelyn (Clark) Stevens. She was a graduate of Wells High School.

Her husband, John Blazonis, died in 1989.

She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Booth of Yelm, Wash.; four brothers, Homer Stevens of North Berwick, John and Richard Stevens, both of Wells and Stuart Stevens of South Berwick; two sisters, Hilma Stevens of South Berwick and Evelyn Clark of Wells; and eight grandchildren.

There will be no services. Interment will be in Washington state.

Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.

Ruth Woodbury

KENNEBUNK - Ruth R. "India" Woodbury, 96, resident of Huntington Common in Kennebunk, former longtime resident of Ogunquit, died April 30, 2002 at her residence following a short illness.

She was born May 6, 1905 in Boston, Mass., a daughter of Louis H. and Beatrice (Baxter) Ruyl. She graduated from Hingham High School and received a teaching degree from Boston University in 1926 where she was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She taught school in the Boston area for a few years. With her husband, she owned and operated the Ship and Compass Bed and Breakfast on Shore Road in Ogunquit for five years in the mid-1930s.

She enjoyed acting and did summer stock theater at the Ogunquit Playhouse and on Old Silver Beach on Cape Cod.

She was an active volunteer and past president of the Ogunquit Village Improvement Association, member and past president of the Wells/Ogunquit Historical Society, and member of the Ogunquit Women's Club. She received the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce in 2001.

She served as the Grand Marshall of the Ogunquit Christmas Parade for four years and was also an active fund-raiser for the restoration of the Marginal Way following the storm of 1991, and was a member of the committee overseeing the placement of the memorial on the Marginal Way.

She enjoyed her family, entertaining friends, spending time in the outdoors and was also an active patron of the arts.

She was predeceased by her husband David O. Woodbury who died in 1981.

She is survived by two sons, Peter R. Woodbury of Wells, and Christopher J. Woodbury of Deltaville, Va.; one sister, Barbara Daugherty of Glendale, Calif.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday June 7, at St. Peter's Church, Shore Road, Cape Neddick.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Marginal Way Beautification Fund, c/o Town of Ogunquit, School Street, Ogunquit, ME 03907 or to the Ogunquit Art Association or to the Ogunquit Museum of American Art in Mrs. Woodbury's memory.

Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells.

Darrell Cloud, 62

COLMAN, S.D. - Darrell Cloud, 62, died April 22, 2002, due to complications from multiple myeloma. Funeral services were at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Flandreau, S.D. Burial was at Midway Lutheran cemetery in rural Colman, S.D.

He was born May 20, 1939, on a farm west of Flandreau. He graduated from Flandreau High School in 1957. He married Jeanne Luttman on Dec. 9, 1960 at Midway Lutheran Church. After graduation from South Dakota State University in 1961, he entered the Air Force as a second lieutenant. He served as a pilot in Vietnam and was honored with several medals including the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He left the Air Force in 1967 at the rank of captain.

The couple moved to Minnesota where he was hired as a pilot for Northwest Airlines. The couple returned to South Dakota, settling in rural Colman in 1988. He was a member of Midway Lutheran Church. After 33 years of flying he retired from Northwest in May 1999. He enjoyed motorcyle trips, biking, skiing, hiking, running, traveling and spending time with family and friends. His motto was "life is good."

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Scott (Linda) Cloud of Northfield, Minn.; and Steve (Margaret) Cloud of Northfield, Minn.; a daughter Sue (Randy) Ernste of Faribault, Minn.; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Sharan Stordahl of Flandreau, Shirley (Mel) Radke of Huron, Sandra Cloud of Watertown and Deb Cloud of Apple Valley; and father- and mother-in-law Ben and Esther Luttman of Brookings.

Robert Kearns

MOODY - Robert (Bob) Kearns died April 20, 2002 in Lady Lake, Florida after an eight-year battle with cancer.

Born Oct. 24, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, he spent most of his life in and around the New York City area. After graduating from Fort Hamilton High School in 1948, he went to work for Cunard Lines as a reservations clerk for such ships as the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. During his time with Cunard Lines, he developed a lifelong love for the majesty of these beautiful ocean liners. His work with Cunard Lines was interrupted in 1950 when he was drafted into the United States Army. After spending two years in the Army, he returned to his job with Cunard Lines.

He was married to Anna M. Lovell on Sept. 11, 1954 at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Roman Catholic Church in Ridgewood, N.Y.

After several years with Cunard Lines, he went to work for AMF. At AMF, he sold and installed bowling machines. In 1964, he left AMF and purchased Storm King Lanes Bowling Center in Newburgh, N.Y. He sold the business several years later and went to work for West Chemical Company in Long Island City, N.Y.

In 1973, he purchased Maxwell's Grocery and Hardware Store in Ogunquit where he quickly fell in love with the beauty and way of life in Maine. He was a member of the Ogunquit Police Department and a volunteer fireman. In 1979, he went to work for Pratt and Whitney in South Berwick and retired in 1992. Although he only spent a little more than 25 years of his life in Maine, he always considered Maine his home. When asked where he was from, he would proudly say he was from the "great state of Maine."

He was a member of the American Legion, the Lion's Club, and was a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox. Although a big sports fan, his greatest joys in life were his wife, his five children, and his 11 grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Anna; four sons, James of Wells, Timothy of South Dakota, Patrick of Kennebunk, and Robert of South Berwick; one daughter, Maureen of Wells; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy, Sean, Daniel, Andrew, Sarah, Matthew, Barbara, Christopher, Michael, Joshua, and William; and one brother, Richard of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lillian.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Paul Gerencer, 39

GARDINER - Paul Kolman Gerencer, 39, of Gardiner died unexpectedly on April 18, 2002, of heart failure.

He was born in Waterville, on Oct. 23, 1962, and was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

He attended Mount Merici Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Waterville High School in 1981. He received a degree in machine tool technology from Eastern Maine Technical College. He also attended Officer Candidate School, was a helicopter aviator.

He was a proud member of the 152nd Maintenance Company, where he held the rank of Warrant Officer and held positions of Acting Platoon Leader and Unit Maintenance Technician. He had combined Maine Air and Army National Guard Service of more than 18 years, and received military awards for Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service, physical fitness and the Marksmanship Badge. Since 1997, he worked as the assistant plant engineer at TexTech Industries in North Monmouth, Maine.

He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed white water kayaking, skiing, biking, hiking, and hunting. He was a member of the Big Buck Club.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Molly Comerford Gerencer; two daughters, Isabel Maria Gerencer, 5, and Emily Kate Gerencer, 21 months, of Gardiner; his parents, Dr. William and Jeanne Gerencer of Waterville; one sister, Kathleen Gerencer Mather and her husband Ben of Indianapolis, Ind.; three brothers, William Paul Gerencer and his wife, Paula, of Bowdoin, Timothy Francis Gerencer and his wife, Lori, of North Yarmouth, and Thomas Michael Gerencer of Waterville; four nieces and seven nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother, Mark Vincent Gerencer in 1968.

A funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph's Parish, Gardiner on April 22.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for the education of Isabel and Emily Gerencer. Donations should be made payable to "Gardiner Savings Bank" and mailed to the Isabel and Emily Gerencer Education Fund, c/o Maine Office of Securities, 124 Northern Avenue, Gardiner, ME 04345.

John Frye Jr., 86

WELLS - John Howard "Junie" Frye Jr., 86, a resident of Atlantic Avenue, a no-nonsense man of quiet intelligence and dignity, a friend to many, dedicated father, husband, grandfather and stepfather died May 14, 2002 at the York Hospital in York.

He was born March 6, 1916 in Auburn, a son of John Howard and Anne (Tweeddale) Frye Sr., and is a graduate of Westfield High School, Westfield, N.J., class of 1934, and Bowdoin College, class of 1938. He was well known at both schools for his ability to play football, and was coached at Bowdoin by legendary coach Adam Walsh whose teams won state championships three years in a row in 1935, '36 and '37.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in the European Theatre.

A longtime employee with Provident Mutual Life, he began his career in 1939 in New York, and was soon moved to Portland, then moved to the Boston office, where he retired from in 1981 as general manager.

He was a past member and president of the Portland Jaycees, a life member of Sportsman's Alliance of Maine, honorary director and member of the St. Mary's River Association in Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia, founding member of the Lockie Weir Trust in Sherbrooke Village, the Union Boat Club in Boston, Bowdoin College Alumni Assoc., the Cumberland Club in Portland, and in June of 1999, was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame for his football career at Bowdoin College.

He enjoyed deer hunting and fly fishing at his camp in Sherbrooke, football, coin collecting and his time spent at the ocean.

Survivors include his wife Claire A. Frye of Wells; one daughter June F. Johnston and her husband J. Lawrence of Jersey City, N.J.; one sister Rosamond F. Smith of North Andover, Mass.; two grandchildren Mark Johnston and his wife Stella of Hetelekidis, Md., Marly LeBeau and her husband Michael; four great-grandchildren, Alex, Adam and Laura Johnston and Madeline LeBeau; one stepson Stephen Varano of Surfside Beach S.C.; and two stepdaughters Andrea Varano of Newburyport, Mass. and Jennifer Baraldi of Chelmsford, Mass.

He earned three all state selections, added all New England laurels in '36 and '37, as well as Honorable Mention in the 1936 All-America team picked by sportswriting icon Grantland Rice.

Visiting hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Harmony Grove Cemetery, 30 Grove St., Salem, Mass.

Dwight Thomas, 54

WEST KENNEBUNK - Dwight Thomas, 54 , of Chapman Lane, died May 15, 2002, at the Pine Point Nursing Center in Scarborough.

He was born Sept. 13, 1947, in Rome, N.Y., a son of George and Katheryn (O'Connell) Thomas and was educated there.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1972.

On June 19, 1971, he married Mary Jo Cesari in Rome, N.Y.

After earning his degree from the State University of New York at Oswego, he made his career in the field of manufacturing engineering, specializing in medical devices and filtration. He later moved into management and was most recently vice-president of manufacturing for North America for Whatman Corp. of the United Kingdom and locally of Scarborough.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, boating, and camping. He was a member of the Arundel Yacht Club. He also enjoyed his pet parrots.

Surviving are his wife Mary Jo Thomas of West Kennebunk; two daughters, Kristin Thomas of Biddeford and Katheryn Thomas of Atlanta, Ga.; one

brother, Windsor Thomas of Rome, N.Y.

There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service was held at Friday at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cancer Community Center in South Portland, ME.

Ivar Anderson, 96

WELLS - Ivar M. Anderson, 96, of the Branch Road, formerly of Gloucester, Mass., died May 20, 2002 at St. Andre's Health Care Facility in Biddeford, after a brief illness.

He was born April 12, 1906 in Rockport, Mass., a son of Edward and Bertha (Mortonson) Anderson, and graduated from Rockport High schools.

He was employed with Gorton's Fish Company in Gloucester as a fish cutter.

He attended the Wells Branch Baptist Church, enjoyed creating ink sketches of sailboats and loved seafood.

He is predeceased by his wife, Helen (Goodwin) Anderson, a daughter, Frances Anderson, two brothers, Paul Anderson and Carl Anderson and two sisters, Anna Bonney and Evelyn Anderson.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-grand nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today at the Pine Hill Cemetery, Wells Branch, with Rev. Dan Lambertson officiating.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Andre's Healthcare Facility, Pool Road, Biddeford, ME. 04005 in Mr. Anderson's memory.

Idella Clough, 97

WATERBORO - Idella May Clough, 97, of Oak Lane, Waterboro, died May 20, 2002 at the Goodall hospital.

She was born in Saco, the daughter of George and Ethel Maude (Hutchinson) Nutter.

She attended Saco schools and also Thornton Academy. She worked for the Saco Lowell Shop and she and her husband ran Clough's Barn in Saco.

She worked in Cape Neddick at The Seamark for Joan Baldwin as a domestic from 1962 until her retirement in 1980.

She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, Wilbur Clough, two brothers George and Harold Nutter and two sisters, Luella Gingue and Helen Philips.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Anderson of East Waterboro and Mrs. Glen (Betty) Ramsdell of Wells; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at South Buxton Cemetery. Dr. Burton Howe will officiate. Dennett, Craig & Pate are in charge of the arrangements.
