Harold Ward, 79

KENNEBUNK - Harold E. Ward, 79, of Route 35, died Feb. 4, 2002 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a brief illness.

He was born July 23, 1922 in Biddeford, the son of Harold and Irma (Lavin) Ward, and was a graduate of Kennebunk High School and attended University of Maine in Orono.

He left the university to join the U.S. Army, and served in the combat engineering battalion. A decorated veteran, he served in the China-Burma-Indonesia theatre, and participated in constructing the Ledo Road.

After his discharge in 1945, he was employed on his families farm in Alewive, worked for the Wilton Manufacturing Co. in Wilton, and the Lane Construction Co. as a heavy equipment operator building the Loring Air Force Base in Limestone.

Survivors include two brothers, James Ward of Kennebunk, and Robert Ward of Moody.

A spring graveside service will be held at Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.

Arrangements by Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk.

Rev. Vasil George, 73

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - The Very Rev. Vasil N. George, 73, of 302 Boston Post Road, died March 26 in Traditions Wayside Hospice, Wayland, Mass.

He was a retired priest of the Albanian Orthodox Church and son of the late Anthony N. and Victoria (Stefan) George of Worcester, Mass. His wife of 44 years, S. Hope (Pano) George, predeceased him in 1987.

He leaves one son, David P. George of Framingham, Mass.; two daughters, Andrea Faith, wife of Bart Berry of Encinitas, Calif. and Sandra Hope, wife of John Foody of Holden; two sisters, Louise D., wife of Henry Hokans of Ogunquit and Virginia S., wife of William Hynes of Holden, Mass.; six grandchildren, Peter and Melissa George, Alyse and Sean Foody, and Michelle and Powers Berry; and two nephews, Christopher and Colin Hynes.

He was born in Pogradec, Albania, and came to Worcester in 1958. He attended Worcester schools, graduating from Commerce High School, and received his degree in theology and music from Boston University. He also attended seminaries in Boston and New York. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Ashland in the South Pacific and on several landing crafts during that campaign.

He served the Albanian Orthodox community throughout New England, most notably for more than 25 years at the Church of the Annunciation in Natick, Mass., and Holy Trinity Church in South Boston for more than 17 years. The latter congregation honored his 51 years of service with a testimonial dinner at Pier 4 in Boston when he retired in 2000. He continued to serve the Albanian community at St. Mary's Church in Worcester for the past few years, coming full circle to the church where he was ordained.

While in Natick he was, for many years, chaplain of the Natick Fire Department and of Leonard Morse Hospital. He enjoyed golf, fishing and the outdoors.

The Salutation and Trisagion services for a priest were held on March 29, a Divine Liturgy was said with a funeral Mass on March 30, at St. Mary's Church on Salisbury Street in Worcester. Burial was in Hope Cemetery.

The family suggests that donations be sent in Father George's memory to St. Mary's Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609, or to Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 245 D St., South Boston, MA 02127, or to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements were directed by Caswell-King Funeral Home, Worcester.

Edwin Nation, 84

OGUNQUIT - Edwin Alfred Nation, 84, died April 7, 2002 in Cranbury, N.J.

He was born in Taunton, Somerset, England, and was raised in Quebec City, Quebec where he was a graduate of Commissioner High School.

A resident of Ogunquit, for the past 21 years, he previously resided in Hartsdale, N.Y. for 19 years. A personal manager with Abitibi Price in both Quebec City, Quebec and Hartsdale, N.Y., he retired in 1981 after 43 years.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Lodge in Quebec City, Quebec, and a member of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Quebec City, Quebec. He was also a member of St. George's Church in York Harbor, where he served as senior warden.

Father of the late Margaret C. Nation, he is survived by his wife, E. Jean (Reimer) Nation. He is also survived by one son, James E. Nation of Newburyport, Mass.; one daughter, Beverley N. Lynk of West Windsor, N.J.; one brother, Ernest W. Nation of Pickering, Ontario, Canada; and four grandchildren, Katherine M. and Allison J. Lynk, and Reed D. and James V. Nation.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Princeton, N.J. A memorial service will be held in May at St. George's Church in York Harbor, Maine.

Contributions in Edwin's memory may be made to St. George's Church in York Harbor.

Everett Corthell, 82

CAPE PORPOISE - Everett Scott Corthell, 82, died on April 1, 2002.

Born on March 1, 1920, in Lexington, Mass., he was the son of Alonzo and Mae (Monahan) Corthell. He graduated from Stoneham High School in 1938, where he was president of his class.

He was married to Caroline (Adams) Corthell on Feb. 22, 1943 and they were married for more than 59 years. She died just four days prior to his death on March 29, 2002. married in Lexington, South Carolina where they were stationed during World War II, he was assigned shortly after their marriage, to the Persian Gulf Command and was in Iran for two years where he was on the supply line at the last Russian outpost.

The Corthells moved to Cape Porpoise in 1946, first living on Main Street and later living on Ward Road. They worked together owning and operating Corthell's Market on the Pier Road, complete with a small coffee and luncheon counter - The Mug Up - for more than 14 years.

He also worked at Shaw's Supermarkets as both an assistant store manager and store manager in Saco and Sanford, where employees remember him fondly as a compassion and effective leader.

He was proud of his membership in the Masons, and was honored in 1999 as a 50-year member.

He was also a 50-year member of the Church on the Cape and he and his wife worked side by side volunteering at church's events for many, many years.

Besides leaving his daughter, Susan Anastasoff, of Debary, Fla., he will be remembered as a devoted friend, a dedicated community member, and a gentle grandfather to children on Cape Porpoise.

He was predeceased by his brother David who died early this year.

A memorial service will be held in the late spring at the Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise.

Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

Valmore Fredette, 64

NORTH BERWICK - Valmore J. Fredette, 64, of Simpsons Way, formerly of Wells, passed away April 7, 2002 in York Hospital after a long illness.

He was born Sept. 27, 1937, in Dover, N.H., a son of Adelard and Bertha (Noel) Fredette.

He settled in Wells, and worked as a police officer in Ogunquit and had been the chief of police in North Berwick. He was best known as "Deputy Dog" for he was the dog officer in Wells.

He belonged to the Wells Beach Hose Company and was very proud to be a member of the Masons, Shriners and of the Wells Elks and Eagles.

He was predeceased by a son, Thomas; a sister, Sharon; and his father, Adelard.

He is survived by his mother of Sanford; one uncle Gordon Noel, wife Cecile Y. (Toussaint) Fredette; one son, Michael of North Berwick; three daughters, and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. James (Donna) Bryant of North Berwick, Mr. and Mrs. David (Lorraine) Randall and Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery (Mary) Little, all of Wells; two brothers, Robert of Alton, N.H. and Richard of Shapleigh; five sisters, Rosemond Carpenter of New Bedford, Mass., Doris Watson of Sanford, Janet Bickford of Laconia, N.H., Irene Carter of Sanford, and Lois Vermette of Sanford; nine grandchildren, Jenilee and Joshua Fredette, Issac Walker, Heath and Heather Bryant, David and Michael Randall, Joseph and Courtney Little.

He will be sadly missed by those who love him. May your memories bring you comfort and keep your loved one close at heart.

A Masonic service was held Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick, with a funeral Wednesday morning followed by Interment in St. Ignatius cemetery in Sanford.

Albert Boudreau, 70

WELLS - Albert J. Boudreau Jr., 70, of Wells and former longtime resident of Sanford, died April 6, 2002 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford after a long illness.

He was born in Sanford Sept. 29, 1931, a son of Albert and Yvonne (Perron) Boudreau, and was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy.

After graduating from college, he moved back to Sanford with his family where he owned and operated Shalit Pharmacy and Twin Gable Gift Shop for many years, and was also the Pharmacist at H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Wells, and a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.

An active community member, he has served as president of the Maine Pharmaceutical Association, president of the St. Thomas School Board, director of the Sanford Institute for Savings Bank, volunteered as a pharmacist at the Biddeford Free Clinic, and a director of the Wells Activity Center.

His greatest passions were the time he spent with family, wood working, playing golf, and was a sports enthusiast. He was the greatest husband, father, brother and grandfather who was loved and will be remembered by many.

Survivors included his wife of 50 years Rachel (St. Cyr) Boudreau; three daughters, Marilyn Zacek and husband Richard, Carol St. Pierre and husband Gerry, and Maureen Boudreau, all of Wells; one son, Blaine Boudreau and his wife Jana of Arundel; one sister, Carmeline Huard of Kennebunk; one brother, Deacon Richard Boudreau of Toronto, Canada; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Courtney and Chelsea.

A Knights of Columbus service was held Sunday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at St. Mary's Church, Wells, with Rev. Joseph Ford officiating. Interment was in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford.

Ronald DiCesare, 73

KENNEBUNKPORT - Ronald T. DiCesare of Malden, Mass. and Kennebunkport died March 14, 2002 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, after a short illness.

Born in Malden, he graduated from Malden High School (class of 1948), received from Suffolk University, his B.A. and from Boston University his C.A.G.S. degree.

He was a Malden educator for many years, teaching first at the Linden School, then the Faulkner school. He was principal at the Leonard Grammar School and Brown Junior High School retiring from that school.

He was a Korean War Army veteran.

He and his wife Elaine owned and operated the Anchorage Guests at the Goose Rocks Beach, Kennebunkport, for more than 40 years.

He was a former member of Malden Rotary.

Husband of Elaine F. (Butler) DiCesare of Malden and Kennebunkport; father of Daniel of Portsmouth, N.H., Helene DiCesare at Cape Porpoise, and Peter of York Harbor; brother of Elinor Murphy of Wilmette, Ill.; John DiCesare of New Hampshire and the late Anna Masterson and Paul DiCesare.

A funeral Mass was held March, 22, at the Blessed Sacrament Church, Wakefield, Mass. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Keith McClelland, 78

KENNEBUNKPORT - Keith Brooks McClelland, 78, resident of Ward Road in Kennebunkport, died May 10, 2002 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was born May 31, 1923 in Bismarck, N.D., a son of Frederick and Pauline (Brooks) McClelland. He graduated from Mandan High School in Mandan, N.D. with the class of 1940 and received a bachelor's degree from Jamestown College in Jamestown, N.D. in 1944.

He served in the U.S. Army following World War II. After his military service he attended New York University where he received a master's degree in education, graduating in 1967.

He was active in several different theatrical ventures in New York City for 25 years before moving to Kennebunkport in 1972.

He was a longtime music teacher at the elementary level at Park Street School in Kennebunk and the Consolidated School in Kennebunkport. He was also a professional musician playing at private functions and also served as church organist for several area churches and for the last 10 years served as the organist and choir director of the Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou McClelland of Kennebunkport; one son, John S. McClelland of Germany; one daughter, Kelly K. Martino of Las Vegas, Nev.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church on the Cape, Langsford Road, Cape Porpoise with Rev. William Gardei officiating. Private Interment will be in Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport.

Should friends desire memorials may be made to the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine & Blood Disorders, 100 Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074 or to Jamestown College, Jamestown, ND in Mr. McClelland's memory.

Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

Ethel Dozier, 86

HAMPTON, N.H. - Mrs. Ethel Lena (Mitrook) Dozier, 86, widow of Henry Howard Dozier Sr. of 777 Lafayette Road, and formerly of Portsmouth, N.H., died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the Partridge House.

She was born in Portsmouth, N.H., June 25, 1915, the daughter of Ollie and Mary Kortina (Sullaway) Mitrook.

She was a communicant of Christ Episcopal Church in Portsmouth for 86 years.

She was a member and chaplain of the Fleet Reserve Association and a member of the Navy Wives Club.

She is survived by three sons, Richard M. Dozier of Portsmouth, N.H., Gary W. Dozier, of Hampton Falls, N.H., and Henry H. Dozier Jr. of Portland, Maine; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters Alice Tuveson and Minnie Jones, both of Portsmouth, N.H.; one brother Tony Mitrook of Holyoke, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by a sister Pearl Little, and a brother John Mitrook

A Requiem Mass was celebrated at Christ Episcopal Church, Portsmouth, Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wayne O. Dozier Memorial Fund, c/o 100 Peverly Hill Rd., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Mildred Boston, 94

BERWICK - Mildred V. Boston, 94, of Berwick Meadows, died May 7, 2002 at the Varney Crossing Nursing Center in North Berwick.

She was born Nov. 17, 1907, in North Berwick, a daughter of Aaron D. and Effie Mae (Sargent) Moulton. She worked for many years as a flamer at Tiara Shoe in Dover, N.H.

She was a wonderful mother who enjoyed Sunday family gatherings with all of her children and grandchildren around her. They would gather to enjoy her cooking and share in fellowship of singing and music. She played the organ and the harmonica.

She was predeceased by her husband, Albion Boston, in 1947, three daughters, Minnie Greaton, Virginia Vachon, and Florence Hashem and two grandchildren, Kathy Rhodes and William Greaton.

Surviving are two sons, Gordon of Somersworth, N.H. and Merrill of Dover, N.H.; four daughters, Edithe Jepson, Evelyn Rhodes and Greta Faye Jepson, all of Wells, and Sylvia Mailhoit of Bow, N.H.; 21 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick.

Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.
