Margo Bickley, 68

KENNEBUNK - Margo (Snell) Bickley, 68, died suddenly at home on Feb. 15, 2003, in Orlando, Fla. She was the daughter of the late Urla and Lawrence Snell of Kennebunk.

Living in Kennebunk, she and her devoted husband, Frank, raised their three children, Steven and Maria Bickley of Atlanta, Ga., Robert and Bonnie Bickley of Merritt Island, Fla., Betty Ann and Greg Morris of Orlando, Fla. Also surviving are one sister, Lula S. Yeitz and her daughter Anna of Orlando, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

She was born in Kennebunk, Feb. 8, 1935 and spent her early years on Swan's Island, graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1952 and retired as an accounting tech in the U.S. Department of the Navy in 2000. She will be sorely missed by her sister Lula and friends.

A funeral service was held in Orlando, Fla. on Feb. 20.

Winnie Briggs, 74

SACO - Winnie M. Briggs, 74, of Portland Road, died Feb. 24, 2003 at Maine Medical Center, Portland.

She was born on May 31, 1928, in Presque Isle, a daughter of Ralph and Lou (Jackson) Buzzell. She graduated from Presque Isle High School.

She was the proprietor of Winnie's Dairy Bar in Presque Isle for more than 30 years.

In 1983, she moved to the Southern Maine area, where she worked as a home health aide for 17 years throughout the York and Cumberland County areas.

She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth O'Donnell and Doris Parsons.

She is survived by her former husband, Arnold Briggs of Saco; one son, Jason Briggs of Saco; one sister, Opel Fields of Haines City, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. from the Trinity Episcopal Church in Saco. Burial will be in the spring at Fairmount cemetery in Presque Isle.

Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

Rita Dionne, 81

SACO - Rita L. Dionne, 81, formerly of Bradley Street, died Feb. 23, 2003 at Evergreen Manor.

She was born in Biddeford on April 24, 1922, a daughter of Adelard and Aurore (Petrin) Lachance, and was educated in schools there.

On Jan. 13, 1942, she married Lionel L. Dionne in St. Joseph's Church. He died July 4, 1996.

She enjoyed bowling and doing home crafts.

She was a member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Joan of Arizona City, Ariz. and Rita L. Smith of Saco; one brother, Paul E. Lachance of Biddeford; four sisters, Laura Carrier of Saco, Madeline Mulderig of Old Orchard Beach, Lucy LeBlanc of North Berwick and Claurette Fecteau of Biddeford; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Doris Fortney, 77

SACO - Doris M. Fortney, 77, of Hobson Lane, died Feb. 21, 2003 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

She was born in Saco on Nov. 22, 1925, a daughter of Geogia (Nason) Pittman, and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1944.

She worked for the former Woolworth's Department Store in Biddeford for several years.

In her earlier years, she loved to dance. Family members say she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her husband, James Fortney, died in March 1989.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Morin of Lyman; two sons, James H. of Limerick and Dan B. of Biddeford; one sister, Helen Bissonnette; one sister, Helen Bissonnette of Saco; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Lucienne Gagnon, 91

KENNEBUNK - Lucienne A. Gagnon, 91, of Ross Road, Kennebunk, and formerly the first resident of Pine Bluff Housing on Cat Mousam Road, died on Feb. 22, 2003 at a local nursing home.

She was born on Oct. 13, 1911 in Biddeford, a daughter of Arthur and Claudia (Bergeron) Brousseau. She attended Biddeford schools.

She worked for Pepperell Manufacturing in Biddeford and at the Howard Johnson's on the Maine Turnpike. She loved to knit, crochet and sew and was a member of a women's bowling league and a former communicant of St. Martha Church.

She was predeceased by her husband Henri Gagnon.

She is survived by one son, Paul Gagnon of Kennebunk; three grandchildren, Michael Buzelchuck, Jan Sampson and Steven Gagnon; six great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, all of Kennebunk; and two sisters, Irene Samson and Yvonne Bolduc, both of Biddeford.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday at St. Martha Church, Route 1, Kennebunk. Burial followed at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Biddeford.

Thomas Hackett, 82

WELLS - Thomas L. Hackett, 82, of Mildram Road, Wells, died of cancer at his home on Feb. 17, 2003.

He was born in Bell City, La. and spent his early years as a cowboy, rancher and farmer. He served as a navigator on both the European and Pacific fronts in World War II, and went on to spend 25 years in the Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1966.

In 1967, he and his wife Jeannette founded The Farm Antiques and built it into a thriving antiques business specializing in 18th- and 19th-century English furniture and accessories. He loved studying, restoring and selling fine antiques in an elegant setting.

His passion for gardening was exhibited in the beautifully landscaped grounds of his home and antique shop, and he could often be found with hoe in hand edging flowerbeds and talking with passersby about the fine points of horticulture or antiques. He recently completed three volumes of tales and reminiscences, including a history of The Farm and its founding, stories of his boy hood years on the gulf coast of Louisiana and stories from his Air Force career.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeannette; two sons, Michael Hackett of Marysville Calif. and Sam Hackett of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one daughter, Hannah Crouthamel of Wells; two brothers and one sister, Robert, Charles and Wanda Hackett all of Louisiana; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

George Hannaford, 54

NORTH BERWICK - George P. Hannaford, 54, of Pine Meadow Dr., passed away Feb. 21, 2003 in Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was born in Malden, Mass., July 12, 1948, a son of Andrew and Gertrude (Murphy) Hannaford. He was a graduate of Malden High School.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. For the past 16 years, he owned and operated Hannaford's Printing in North Berwick; taking great pride in serving his community well. He loved spending time with his dog, Chelsea, as well as riding motorcycles with his wife. He enjoyed woodworking of all kinds and a good game of golf. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him and loved him.

He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers, John, Andrew, James and Michael Hannaford, and a sister, Gertrude Rizzuto.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Gray) Hannaford, mother and father-in-law, Roland and Mary Gray, one son, Troy Hannaford, all of North Berwick; three daughters, Trudy and her husband, Lenny Dixon and Vickie Ham, all of Berwick and Lisa Mendes of Oak Harbor, Wash.; one brother, Joseph Hannaford of California; two sisters, Mary Lou Higgins of Florida and Eileen Howard of Boxford, Mass.; many nieces and nephews and in-laws.

A funeral was held Tuesday at the Bethel Christian Church, North Berwick, with the Rev. Robert G. Cole Sr. officiating. Spring Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, North Berwick.

Patricia Johnson, 71

NORTH BERWICK - Patricia Bertha Johnson, 71, of Madison Court died the evening of Feb. 21, 2003 at Springbrook Nursing Home.

She was born Oct. 13, 1931 in Portland, a daughter of Thomas E. and Virginia (Plummer) Norton. She attended Portland schools and graduated Salutatorian from Cathedral High School in the class of 1949. While in high school she earned varsity letters in swimming, basketball and softball. She graduated from Gorham State Teachers College in 1953.

On Aug., 14, 1954 she married C. Skolfield "Sko" Johnson III at St. Margaret's Church in Old Orchard Beach. She was devoted to education, exemplified by her 41 years as an elementary school teacher, spending 37 of those years at School Administrative District 60, teaching in Berwick and North Berwick.

She was a member of the Maine Teachers' Association and the National Education Association, regularly serving on committees. She enjoyed reading, beano, cards and was an avid sports fan with a special love of the Boston Celtics. Above all, she was a dedicated wife and mother of her four children.

She was pre-deceased by her brother, Thomas E. Norton Jr. in 1977 and her loving husband, Sko Johnson in 1999.

She is survived by one daughter, Joyce B. Johnson of Portland; three sons, Bryan S. Johnson of North Berwick, Lester S. Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mark S. Johnson of Springvale; four grandchildren, Bryce and Brianna Reinhard, Katherine and Benjamin Johnson

A service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Pat and Sko Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund," c/o Superintendent's Office, PO Box 819, North Berwick, ME 03906.

Burial will be in the family lot at Forest City cemetery in South Portland.

Marcy McManus, 23

SACO - Marcy K. McManus, 23, of Winter Street, died Feb. 21, 2003 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born in Portland on Nov. 24, 1979, a daughter of Steve A. and Rosie (Littlefield) McManus, attended Saco schools, including Thornton Academy (class of 1999), and graduated from Spurwink School, South Portland in 2000.

Family members say she loved her family's home in Saco and her apartment in Buxton, where she had lived since July. She loved visiting her aunts, uncles and cousins while staying with her grandmother at her East Benton farm.

She spent many weekends at her parents' home. She was a strong swimmer, participating in several Maine Special Olympic events. She loved many types of music, dancing, walks on the beach, nail polish and fashion magazines. Family members say she had her own unique sense of fashion style and an infectious, impish grin.

She was a member of Scout Explorer Post 310 in Saco for many years. She loved going on hikes and many other activities with her Scouting friends and caregivers.

Surviving are her mother and father of Saco; one brother, Cody of Saco; her maternal grandmother, Shirley Littlefield of East Benton; and several aunts and uncles.

Mina Morrissey, 88

SANFORD - Mina W. Morrissey, 88, a resident of Fern Drive, Shapleigh, died Feb. 23, 2003 in Goodall Hospital.

She was born March 29, 1914 in Panama, the daughter of Jake and Jeannette (Crough) Williams.

As an art cartoonist, she drew Popeye, Olive Oil and the Popeye gang.

Her husband, Edward G. Morrissey predeceased her in December of 1983.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Al (Suella) Delgaizo of Shapleigh; one brother, Jake Williams of Florida; four grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held later this spring in Arundel Cemetery,

Madeleine Neault, 71

BIDDEFORD - Former resident Madeleine Neault, 71, of Auburn, died Feb. 21, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

She was born in Biddeford on Aug. 2, 1931, a daughter of Hector and Martha (Wallingford) Neault, and was educated in schools there.

She moved to the Lewiston / Auburn area in 1985.

She enjoyed being outdoors in her screen house and her rose garden. She also collected Native American Indian collectibles. She pursued an interest in law enforcement with Officer Tom Poulin of the Auburn Police Department.

There are no known survivors.

Marie O'Brien, 71

BIDDEFORD - Marie O'Brien, 71, of Cathedral Oaks, died Feb. 19, 2003 at Pine Point Nursing Home in Scarborough.

She was born in Cambridge, Mass., on Feb. 12, 1932, a daughter of John and Paris (Dervishian) Ferguson, and attended schools there.

She moved to Saco from Cambridge in 1959 and to Biddeford in 1968.

She worked as a waitress most of her life, at the former Wonderbar Steak House in Biddeford and the Seaway in Scarborough. Most recently, she had worked as a caregiver.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, and was an avid beano player.

Her husband, David O'Brien Sr., died in July 1992.

Survivors include one son, David W. Jr. of Biddeford, with whom she resided; on sister, Rose Ferguson of Everett, Mass.; three brothers, James Ferguson of Douglas, Mass., Robert Ferguson of Burlington, Mass., and Paul Ferguson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
