Mrs. Anna Siwecki
Anna Siwecki, 91 of Gaylord died Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Siwecki was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 6, 1911 and had lived in Vanderbilt since 1929. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. Mrs. Siwecki was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1966, her daughter Marie Freeland in 1994, her sisters Helen and Annette and her brother Vincent. She is survived by her daughter, Frances (Charles) Jackson of Gaylord; sons, Joseph (Rosemary) of Fort Worth, TX, Edward (Sandra) of Adrian, Henry (Marie) of Vanderbilt, Stanley (Theresa) of Vanderbilt; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Frances; and 2 brothers, Jack & Frank of Pittsburgh, PA. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Friday, February 28, 2003 at 2PM from the Nelson Funeral Home. Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen Hill cemetery in Vanderbilt. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 4-8PM and on Friday from noon until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Otsego County Commission on Aging through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bernice Thompson
Mrs. Bernice G. Thompson, 95 of Gaylord died Monday, February 17, 2003 at McReynolds Hall. Mrs. Thompson was born in Detroit on December 19, 1907. After graduating from high school she attended Henry Ford Hospital Nursing School, receiving her RN in 1930. She began vacationing at Arbutus Beach on Otsego Lake with her family in 1917 and became permanent resident of the Gaylord area in 1969. In 1931 she married Dr. Hugh O. Thompson and they were married 65 years. Dr.Thompson preceded his wife in death on February 12, 1997. Bernice did volunteer work for Otsego Memorial Hospital, the Red Cross Blood Bank and the American Heart Association. She had been a member of the Extension Group since 1969. Bernice was also preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Hanson, in 1981. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her son, Hugh Jr. (Julianne) of Troy; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at 11AM from the Nelson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4PM & 6-9PM and on Wednesday beginning at 10AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to McReynolds Hall through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Constance K. “Connie” Webber
Constance K. “Connie” Webber, 59 of Johannesburg, Michigan died Monday, February 17, 2003. Mrs. Webber was born in Bryan, Ohio on August 5, 1943 and spent her childhood in Ohio. She later moved to Mancelona, Michigan and was a 1961 graduate of Mancelona High School. After graduation she returned to Ohio and in 1980 she moved back to Johannesburg, Michigan. She has been employed with Reptron (K-Byte) the past 18 years. Mrs. Webber was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Gaylord, Michigan and enjoyed cooking, sewing and reading. She was “a real family person” and loved her kids. She is survived by her husband, James D. Webber, Sr.; her children, James D. Webber, Jr. of Johannesburg, MI, Andrew Dean Webber of Johannesburg, MI, Paul Brian Webber of Johannesburg, MI, Cynthia Kay Webber of Gaylord, MI; 3 grandchildren, Nicholas Paul & Julia Kay Webber of Alpena, MI, and Noah Ethan Andrew Rutherford of Gaylord, MI; brothers & sisters, Kathy Jean Bright, John (Claudia) Maberson, Jacqueline (George) Cotteral, Gerald Wayne Maberson and Timothy Lyle Maberson all of Ohio. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, in Gaylord, MI, Elder Bid Tenant, officiating. Visitation at the funeral home will take place on Friday from 3-8 PM and on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Webber family, through the Nelson Funeral Home, 135 N. Center, Gaylord, MI 49735.

Mrs. Patricia D. Weber
Mrs. Patricia D. Weber, 47 of Gaylord died Thursday, January 30, 2003 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Weber was born in Copperhill, Tennessee on July 14, 1955. At an early age she moved with her family to Detroit and lived there until moving to Gaylord in 1996. She had been employed at Wal-Mart in Gaylord. Mrs. Weber was an avid Red Wings fan and enjoyed cross-stitch and fishing. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2003 at 7:00 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Naile, officiating. Mrs. Weber is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob”; stepdaughter, Dawn (Jason) Miller of Warren; grandchild, Nolen Miller; 3 sisters, 2 brothers, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Saturday from 3:30 PM until 8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Weber family, through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mr. Fred J. Wilhoff
Fred J. Wilhoff, 76 of Gaylord died Friday, March 14, 2003. He was born in Barrington, IL on July 12, 1926. On October 3, 1953 he married the former Elizabeth Scudlark who survives. Mr. Wilhoff was the business owner of Infinity & Associates, and he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Fred was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and was a past treasurer and usher for the church. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth; daughter, Kathryn (Mike Dressler) Wilhoff of Ypsilanti; special dog, Ginger. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, March 17, 2003 at 11:00 AM from St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Gaylord, Rev. Gerald Rehagen officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen cemetery, Barrington, IL. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Sunday from 3-8 PM, and at the church on Monday beginning at 10:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Building Fund or to the American Diabetes Association, through the Nelson Funeral Home, 135 N. Center, Gaylord, MI 49735.

Mr. Gary McKenzie Wilson
Gary McKenzie Wilson, 70 of Gaylord died Monday, February 17, 2003 at his home. Mr. Wilson was born January 31, 1933 in Detroit and was raised in the Detroit area. After spending many years in Detroit he had spent the past 6 years in Northern Michigan. Mr. Wilson had retired as an engineer with the Environmental Protection Agency in Ann Arbor. In his free time he enjoyed photography, computers, extensive traveling in his 5th wheel and the piano. He especially loved spending time with his family. Mr. Wilson was a member of the Jaycees and the Society of Automotive Engineers. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Ann (Kassuba); 4 children, Lynn (Mark) Lariviere of Canton, Barry (Sandra) Wilson of Livonia, Gary L. (Sherri) Wilson of Novi, Scott Wilson of Belleville; 7 grandchildren, Christopher, Kimberly, Nikolas, Andrew, Sarah, Zachary and Amber; 1 sister, Mildred (Al) Sovran of Brantford, Ontario; 3 sisters-in-law, Althea “Peg” Metzger of Gaylord, Mary (Dan) Reardon of East Tawas and Pat (Randy) Ferguson of Lincoln Park; 2 brothers-in-law, Paul (Sandy) Kassuba of Oakdale, CT, Frank (Marge) Kassuba of East Tawas; numerous nieces and nephews. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Friday, February 21, 2003 at 11:00 AM from the First Presbyterian Church in Gaylord, The Reverend Mary McClure, officiating. Friends may call at the Nelson Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-9 PM and on Friday at the church beginning at 10 AM. Mr. Sylvester Wojtkowiak
Mr. Sylvester H. Wojtkowiak, 95 of Gaylord died Sunday, February 23, 2003 at home surrounded by his family. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Wojtkowiak was born October 4, 1907, in Gaylord, the son of Valentine and Salomea (Kobylczak) Wojtkowiak. He attended “McCoy’s College” in Gaylord near Dixon Lake and continued to work on the family farm. He also worked for his dad in the lumber business before joining the Civil Conservation Corps in the Upper Peninsula. After the CC camp he returned to Gaylord and joined the Otsego County Road Commission in 1940 as a laborer. He retired on October 4, 1972. On June 17, 1940 he married the love of his life, his beloved wife Gertrude “Gert” Kwapis. The couple enjoyed their family life and he worked hard to support his family. He loved growing the garden, fishing, hunting, and he continued fishing until the last year of his life. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, St. Stanislaus and St. Mary Cathedral, where he and his wife Gertrude celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2000. He also enjoyed polka music, dancing, and playing poker and scat with relatives until a month before he died. Mr. Wojtkowiak was the oldest in a family of 10. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; his children, Eugene of Gaylord, Verona (Leonard) Bartz of West Lake Village, CA; his grandsons, Gregory Bartz of Orinda, CA, and Bryan Bartz of San Diego, CA. Also surviving are sisters, Marge Petrowski of Flint, and Carrie (Robert) Coultes of Hart; brother, Raymond (Nellie) Wojtkowiak of Gaylord. Mr. Wojtkowiak was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Louie, Mitchell “Mack”, Frank, and Ernie; and sisters, Julia and Ann. Syl will be remembered as a man of character, integrity, strength, and kindness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 28, 2003 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will take place on Wednesday from 5-8 PM, Thursday from 2-8 PM, and Friday from 9:30 AM until prayers at 10:30 AM. St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will offer a rosary Thursday at 3:00 PM. Burial will take place in the spring at Resurrection cemetery in Vanderbilt. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ann Woodcox
Ann Christine Woodcox was born in Gaylord, Michigan March 25, 1932. She died February 25, 2003 in Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. She was the fourth of five children born to Nels and Martha (Mattie) Jensen. A graduate of Gaylord High School she worked in the county treasurer's office and the Hutchings Insurance Agency until marrying Jason Woodcox in December of 1955. Ann made her home in California, living in Los Alamedas, San Diego and La Mesa before moving back to Gaylord in 1980. She was the mother of two sons, two grandchildren and on great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Beulah, in 1983, and a bother, Lester, in 1996. She is survived by her husband; her sons, Jason II (Lorelie) of Gaylord, David (Susan) of Knoxville, TN; and her grandchildren. Ann was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, first in Gaylord, then in LaMesa California, then in Gaylord again. She was also a member of the Vanderbilt Lioness Club until its dissolution. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2003 at 2PM from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, Pastor Joe Sereno, officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Saturday from 3-8 PM and visitation on Sunday will be at the church beginning at 1 PM until the time of services. Memorials contributions may be made to the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Flora P. “Polly” Zanger
Flora P. “Polly” Zanger, 48 of Gaylord died Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at her home. Mrs. Zanger was born November 2, 1954 in Grayling, the daughter of Leonard & Helen (Widrig) Jensen. She had been employed by First National Bank of Gaylord and Kohl’s Department Store. Mrs. Zanger is survived by her husband, Dan; 4 children, Michael (Lori) Moore of Grand Blanc, Meghan, Dawn & Heather Wright all of Carsonville, MI; 2 grandsons, Antonio & Jacob Moore; 3 sisters, Marlene (Richard) Hale of Gaylord, Glada (Roy) Benaway of Gaylord, Shirley Granger of Grayling; 2 brothers, William Earl (Jeanine) Jensen of Waters, Louis (Carol) Jensen of Upper Peninsula; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard & Helen and her brother Leonard. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Match 1, 2003 at 1:30 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, in Gaylord, Elder Ted Engel officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Saturday from 11:30 AM until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the family through the Nelson Funeral Home, 135 N Center, Gaylord, MI 49735.

Mrs. Lenore F. Babcock
Lenore F. Babcock, 81 of Indian River died Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Tendercare in Gaylord. Mrs. Babcock was born in Saskatxchewan, Canada on June 27, 1922. For more than 40 years she and her husband Herb, owned Aluminum Products. Mrs. Babcock was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Indian River. Her family fondly remembers her as a woman who “canned anything she could get her hands on”. Mrs. Babcock was preceded in death by her husband Herbert in 1998. She is survived by 4 children, Kaye (Donald) Morrow of Indian River, Vicki Palmer of Wolverine, Douglas (Kay) Babcock of Indian River, Greg (Mary) Babcock of Wolverine; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2003 from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Indian River. There will be visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home (135 N Center, Gaylord, MI 49735) on Friday July 18 from 6-8 PM.

Mrs. Lillian M. Centeck
Lillian M. Centeck, 88 of Lewiston died Sunday, June 29, 2003 at Tendercare in Gaylord. Mrs. Centeck was born in Detroit on February 10, 1915 and moved to Little Bear Lake in 1971 from Allen Park. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Lewiston and a member of the Lewiston VFW Auxiliary. Mrs. Centeck was preceded in death by her husband George in 1991. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters and 1 brother. She is survived by her son, Raymond (Dianne) Centeck of Johannesburg; 2 brothers and 1 sister. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at 11 AM from St. Francis Church in Lewiston, Father Gregory Kurutz, officiating. Burial will follow at St Francis cemetery in Lewiston. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 5-8 PM and on Tuesday beginning at 10 AM. A parish wake service will be held at the church Monday evening at 7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, through the Nelson Funeral Home, 135 N Center, Gaylord, MI 49735.

Mr. Steven Scott Chapel
Steven Scott Chapel, 43 of Gaylord died Wensday, April 23, 2003 while at work. Mr. Chapel was born on September 27, 1959 in Ypsilanti, the son of Arden and Sharon Chapel. He drove semi-trucks most of his life and he loved working on vehichles. He enjoyed his times spent with his sister, Sherry, and her husband, Scott. Mr. Chapel is survived by his wife Linda Chapel, his children Jennifer Chapel, Nina Ommar, and Beverly Ommar, brother Jeff and four sisters, Sherry, Terry, Michelle, and Tracy, 4 nephews and 6 nieces, sister-in-law Katherine, brother-in-law Michael, mother-in-law Marjory, brothers-in-law Scott, Harry, Virgil, and Greg. He was very much loved and will never be forgotten. He is now in heaven with his brother Micheal and his mother and father, Arden and Sharon. And God be with his brother Jeffrey. Give prayer that his brother pushes through.

Mrs. Bertha Bernice Dluzniewski
Bertha Bernice Dluzniewski, 74 of Gaylord died Wednesday July 9, 2003. Mrs. Dluzniewski was born in Gaylord on January 4, 1929 the daughter of Blasé & Helen (Kobylczak) Respecki. She was raised in Gaylord and later married Arthur Dluzniewski. While raising their children, Bertha worked for the local Gaylord Bakery. Later on she was a hostess for the Country Star Restaurant and the Towncrest Restaurant. Mrs. Dluzniewski loved cooking, fishing, going to garage sales, and trips to the casino. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Blasé and Helen; her husband, Arthur; and her brothers, Richard & Floyd Respecki. She is survived by her longtime companion, Don Burroughs; 3 sons, Robert of Gaylord, Thomas (Peggy) of Ellsworth, Gene (Luanne) of Gaylord; grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Guggisberg of Vanderbilt, Thomas Dluzniewski of Ellsworth; great-grandchildren, Braden & Ashton Guggisberg, and Deja Dluzniewski; step-granddaughter, Kimberley Cosens of Boyne City and her children; brothers, Lawrence (Angie) Respecki of Livonia, Edward Respecki of Oak Park, Chester Respecki of Gaylord; sisters, Dorothy Ferris of Lansing, Helen (Merton) Brink of Gaylord. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Friday, July 11, 2003 at 3:00 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Jet Ormsbee, officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 12 Noon until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego County Animal Shelter, through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kerri F. Engel
Mrs. Kerri F. Engel, 48 of Gaylord died Monday, September 1, 2003 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Mrs. Engel was born in Gaylord on March 17, 1955 and had been a lifelong resident of Gaylord. She was a 3rd grade teacher at Johannesburg – Lewiston schools. Prior to that time she was a counselor for what is now known as Catholic Human Resources. On August 28, 1976 she married her high school sweetheart David Engel. The couple recently celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary. Kerri was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter- in- law, friend and counselor. She enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, was an avid reader and loved animals. She treasured her family and her students. Her deep faith and spirituality were exhibited daily. Mrs. Engel is survived by her husband, David; her children, Jordan & Alexa Engel; her sister, Kris (Denny) Turbin and their children Brian, Lorne and family. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Kathy McLuckie & Karen Stotts and family; and her father and mother-in-law, Ted & Joyce Engel. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold & Arleta Klein. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, September 7, at2:00 PM from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church Church, Ted Engel, Jr. and J. Lively, officiating. A gathering in memory of Kerri Engel will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home on Saturday from 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Otsego County Animal Shelter.
