BEST, JOHN FREDRICK, Of Chatham, passed away at Blenheim Community Village on Sunday, August 8, 1999. Born in Detroit, Michigan 67 years ago. Son of the late Dell Best and Margaret Nichol. Mr. Best was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp. "B" Company 1st Battallion 7th Marines in Korea. He retired from International Harvester in 1985 after 31 years of service, was involved in coaching and umpiring with Chatham Minor Baseball for 25 years and is presently a member of the 1st Marine Association New York Chapter and New Jersey Chapter. Surviving are one sister, Mary Birkby and husband Fred of Novi, Mich.; three nieces Barbara and husband Larry Walton, Lisa Birkby, Della and husband Steve Resatar all of Michigan, three nephews; Glen and wife Toshiko Lepien of California, Stuart and wife Donna Birkby of Ohio, Jason Birkby of Michigan. Predeceased by a sister Harriet "Jane" Lepien (1992). Funeral service will be conducted at the Bowman Funeral Home, Chatham, Ontario, Canada (519) 352-2390, on Wednesday, August 11, 1999. at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Evelyn Carpenter of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment in Evergreen cemetery, Blenheim. Contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
