SLOTKOWSKI, LADDIE M. Age 89, of Midland, passed away Friday, August 14, 1998. She was born in Detroit on June 29, 1909. Retired from Detroit Public Education in 1962. Surviving are two sons, Alvin (Jacquelyn) Slotkowski of Commerce Twp. and Kenneth (Marcia) Slotkowski of W. Bloomfield. SPINA, GABRIEL, of Williamston. Born July 16, 1934, in Detroit. Died August 14, 1998, at the age of 64. Mr. Spina graduated from the University of Detroit and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He was a Businessman and Restauranteur & owned and operated Mama Mia Restaurants in Southfield and Union Lake. Mr. Spina was also the developer & builder of the Isle of Sand Key in Clearwater, FL. He was a life member of the Lions Club International, a member of the Knights of Columbus McCormick Council #7545 and a past member of the Optimist Club. Surviving are his wife, Ann; 4 daughters, Mary Anita (Mickey) Valle of Commerce Township, Patricia (James) Shankin & Gabriella (Yarrow) Drake both of California, and Ann Marie Pooler of East Lansing; 1 son, Joseph Spina of Novi; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Anita Spina and 1 sister, Joann Retford both of Grosse Pointe Shores. The funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 18, 10 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 157 High St., Williamston, with the Rev. Dan McKean officiating. FINLAYSON, JOHN EVERETT 47 year veteran of the Detroit News, died Sunday, August 15, 1999, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility of Bad Axe. He was 90. He was born January 18, 1909 in Laurium, MI, son of the late Kenneth & Sarah (McKay) Finlayson. He was a graduate of Northwestern High School. He attended City College and majored in journalism. He resided in the Detroit and Dearborn areas. He retired from the Detroit News as the Entertainment Editor. He spent his retirement years in the Traverse City area until moving to his daughter Christine's home in Ubly. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Georgi Ann; two sons, John & James and his wife, Beverly; two daughters, Ann Ivinskas & her husband, Bob & Christine Young; four grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, Paul and Julia. Burial will be in Barnum cemetery, Mayfield, MI. Cremation will take place at Sunset Valley Crematory of Bay City. Memorials may be made to WIAA - Public Radio at Interlochen, MI 49643. Arrangements were handled by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home, of Ubly. Memorial Service will be held at a future date
